Outside of the Mustang, Ford’s exhaust on their V6 models usually sound terrible…and more terrible when you try to mod or straight pipe them.
It's cause they use a unequal length exhaust setup, and the firing order on the Ecoboost is not as common as the Nissan/Toyota v6s. Ford remedies this by installing that trombone to make the exhaust equal length to produce a more pleasant audible experience.

Sounds great imo, especially in the opening sequence and the fly bys.
Comparing stationary revving to the engine actually being under load and in boost are two way different things as far as exhaust sound goes.
I own this same truck…under load in Baja mode, with the back window open it really starts to snarl after 4K rpm. I’m thrilled with it for being variable and a V6.
5:36 probably the same reason they have the little covers on the ridid fog lights. The Baja mode is probably louder than is allowed with a stock exhaust system so they say for offroad only be but know a lot of people will just immediately go to that setting anyway

Yes, the 5.0 sounds great in the F150 but the 2.7L Ecoboost F150 will beat it in a drag race.

Sounds pretty similar to the Ford GT in my opinion. I think Ford has done a great job with the way it sounds. I wonder if Ford intended for it to sound like a Baja race truck?
I believe the raptor has Baja roots back when it came out, I do think they tested it and won some crazy off-road race I’ll have to find the name of it. Edit : the race is the Baja 1000 it won in 2010.

Put a intake, Exhaust / down pipes and a maybe a tune. Hearing the turbos scream and all the blow off sounds will make it sound AMAZING!!!

Honestly, I couldn’t tell much of a difference enough to bother changing the modes.
Absolutely love the sound of the new Raptor. Ford went to great lengths with equal length dual pipes and spent a ton of time and R&D to get that sound profile. I agree, sounds like a twin turbo GTR which many people feel is the best sounding turbo vehicle out there. I've always wanted an active exhaust setup and think it's the best of both worlds. Although I've liked the previous Gen Raptors I feel this is by far the best looking version and feel it's a legit truck for the year 2022 with the futurist lines and accent lighting. Couldn't imagine a twin turbo truck growing up especially one I could jump in the sand dunes and go offroad at that kind of speeds. Thanks for the vid

this vid mad old but 5:35 Baja is "offroad only" cause it's potentially too loud for road use and you could get pulled over. I think someone else said it too.
The tone and loudness do change slightly when you listen with headphones in. It sounds good in all four modes when winding it out. It does sound pretty much identical to a stock GTR. Which is a good thing imo.👌🏽🔥🔥
I really don't hear a difference. If the Raptor came with a supercharged coyote I would order it tomorrow. I am just a V8 guy. Over all pretty nice truck and I hope your wife loves it.

Is there any different in performance numbers between different modes
I went and bought 2 fake heavy Guage Flowmaster mufflers after the x-pipe. I ran the exhaust out the back with 3" aluminized pipe. Everything factory in the exhaust is gone after the catalytic converters. It has no drone and sounds amazing.
You can Probably pull the fuse and keep valves open all the time
My zo6 also go quite when coasting or of the throttle even though i have it on track mode for the exsust
I'm thinking you have hearing issues from your loud exhausts from your other trucks lol this sounds really good and there is definitely a difference in the 4 modes.

Hi Mike great looking truck and the sound is ok but not much difference from quiet to sport mode I love the sound your truck makes.
I have a Gen 2 with the Borla Touring exhaust. Not too bad, but it is still not a V8. And BTW, the V6 does not get any better gas mileage than my 2017 Roush F150 with a stage 2 Supercharger. And the Roush screamed, and I had to add traction bars. Why not put twin turbos on the 5.0????
What was posted in white lettering (for a split second) on the video at 2:39 ? It took me a while of freeze framing it... but it says "SEE WHAT I DID THERE?" ...a SOUND DECISION.
I think it sounds good. I’m wondering if the modes that you’re scrolling through do anything else with the suspension tighten up the steering because it looks like it’s a combination of exhaust changes and drive modes. That’s why Baja says for off-road use only just wondering.
It does change suspension and steering speed.
Exhaust mode I believe is separate and if that’s true the Baja mode is most likely to load for on road
With the revering through different exhaust settings you can tell little bit of throat popping more in different modes on the pass-through they sounded the same in quiet mode to Baja mode

I think the Baja mode definitely has a significant amount more rumble/turbo noise than quiet/normal does. I honestly kind of dig the sound. That is of course not expecting it to ever have the sweet sounds of a beautiful V8 rumble
I have a 24. I notice the sound change drastically between modes, but only when cruising not quickly accelerating.
It definitely gets louder from quiet to baja with the GT R tone present through out every mode . There is a episode of Hoonicorn vs the world where the owner of Borla brought his Ford GT to race and its still the best sounding ive heard .

Can you keep it in quiet mode? For example I get up early in the morning and I dont to disturb neighbors. If I use remote start can I make it default to quiet?

Valves have to open up in the higher RPM to meet BP requirements for HP. The mode differences are mainly in part throttle positions.
Just like the S550 platform, under WOT/heavy throttle the valves will automatically open. I think this ecoturd sounds pretty damn good. There is a difference in each mode and the only way to really be able to tell a difference is when you start doing exhaust work to them.
I thought in one of your earlier videos(about 9-11 months ago) you said you were only getting this newer model if it was going to be a v8. What made you get this one regardless?
This one is for his wife. There won’t be any mods to make it louder as she hates his custom exhaust noisy vehicles. When the R comes out he plans on getting that possibly trading in or selling his current Lariat F150.

Prob sounds different under load like when it’s pulling, I think it sounds good for a V6, my tremor has a little bit of that sound but no where near that level lol

Honestly sounds pretty damn good. Slightly more aggressive once you open the valves up. Sport & Baja definitely sound more throaty 3-5k rpms, the feint turbo spool is noticeable towards the end of your revs. I'm sure a 1.5/2" diameter pipe increase would resonate more with a titanium system, but your Raptor might sound too rice afterwards. I'm very curious what a small ECU remap will make power wise in the Gen III. Thanks for the great content, Mike!
I just ordered the 2022 raptor, looking forward to hearing it in person. I like the Baja sound. Being able to go to quiet mode will make the wife happy.
what about the shelby or hennessey version of the raptor?
You're used to trying to hear a rumble. You can't get that out of a V6. You're looking for more of a "raspy/crisp" sound.
It's like changing brands of beer. It's already an aquired taste, but once you get used to it, it's hard to be satisfied with anything else. But if it's what you have to work with, there's not much you can do about it.

I own a 2012 Rousch Raptor. It sounds amazing. Having said that, I don't think the Gen 3 sounds bad. A six sounds like a 6 no matter what you do to it. Different strokes for different folks. I would buy a Gen 3.

To me it doesn't sound louder but each mode seems to make It sound deeper and raspyer. Gorgeous truck though. Closest we will hopefully get in the UK is the Ranger Raptor.
Mike, maybe you need to buy yourself a late 70s square body chevy with a 180hp 350 v8 with glass packs. Maybe that would make your member feel larger .
The 3.5 ecoboost is a stout engine.

I like the sound(s); as for that "water slide" 270 degree plus turn around on the exhaust piping, maybe the data needed a certain (matching) exhaust pipe length to achieve a certain sound?
Baja growls more and it’s more throaty sound. And in the city it’s prob louder then regular exhaust. I’ve made a bunch of raptor exhaust and they have to cans together lol it’s insane but with the attack cans gah it’s so loud. I’m definitely switching out exhaust when I get my raptor. let’s more air flow through the exhaust
GTR fanboy here. I love the new sound for the gen 3. The Raptor R will, I'm sure, blow it away. But this is a pretty noticeable improvement over the gen 2.

It sounds pretty good on film, probably better in person. I haven’t seen Mike drive down the street in it yet to judge that.
It doesn't sound too bad really. I have a 2.7 TT Bronco Badlands coming in early early spring and i didn't think they sound bad. I think its very slight differences in notes on the Raptor. Only way to be sure is put a decibel meter on it inside and outside
what else more do you want? i think it sounds great ...its not a v8 its a 6cyl with twin turbos...i personally like it and i have a 68 gto with 500 hp cammed heads and h pipe and a f150 with 2.7 twin turbo with a tuner and intake and I don't knock either one cause their suppose to be different....
I agree. I think Ford did the best that they could with a V6EB, but IMO it's never going to sound anywhere as good as a V8.
I couldn't tell any difference in the sound but for us here in ireland that's pretty cool,we don't have trucks like that!!!! Unfortunately, I'd definitely buy one if they did,they're sooo cool,I work in construction.

Mike... there's enormous difference in all ... and it sounds killer... sounds bloody awesome.
You really don't get a lot do you Mike... it's so that you are taking others who might not like loud exhausts into consideration, and Baha mode when you are out in the back blocks, it doesn't matter.
The next thing you don't get... is inside the vehicle you are listening to mostly INDUCTION noises... you need a mic on the outside to listen to exhaust modes.
Those drive by clips... it sounds awesome Mike... come on man... If you can;t hear the difference... wash your ears out... LoL...
You also gotta remember, those stock exhausts have to meet certain laws also.

I just purchased a beautiful gen 1, terrain color only 25k miles. Next is a Rouch supercharger, Corsa extreme exhaust and I'll never sell it. No school like the old school

Sound is a weird thing. Our ears are not linear in sensitivity. You should use a dB-meter to actually measure the absolute and relative level . And that could give you very surprising results.
What I think might be happening is the same thing that happens with the W205 C63s.
Because of noise pollution laws, the valves don't open up all the way when you're in neutral or neutral revving. You'll probably notice a sound difference outside only when you're on the road and in gear. I know Mercedes only opens the valves 60 to 70% when neutral revving even in race exhaust if it's below 3,000 RPMs and that too is only in gear. Not in gear it's significantly less.

For quiet to normal I feel like the difference is in driving in low rpms the steady rumble is not there for like city driving, but once you floor it there's only so much it'll stop. I'm sure the company wanted pedestrians to hear you
You should do an engine swap on the raptor put the 5.0 supercharger in it
Why would he do that on the Raptor? First, it’s his wife’s Raptor. Second, he said he’s getting the V8 Raptor R when it comes out. Third, he said he doesn’t mess with any of his Raptor’s exhaust systems so modifying the engine is even less likely.
Think it sounds good ..kudos to ford for giving the owners 4 Modes to choose from instead of having to strate pipe or put a Performance muffler on and being stuck with it 👍👍
No way this exhaust should not have been added to ALL the 3.5 ecoboost engines! This would have swayed me to buy a a powerboost. I own a 2016 3.5 eco and a 2021 RCSB 5.0 for reference. I will guarantee you that if owners start removing these exhaust... there will be a market for them! I'd buy one to retro on my 2016 eco....

They open when you punch it they have to they don't want to restrict the flow on that crazy exhaust at high revs the exhaust mods are for when you're sitting low RPMs for the outside the inside is too insulated to tell
It sounds pretty good tbh. The previous exhaust setup made the V6 sound a THREE cylinder. It was quite hilarious.
I think that people should change their persepctive from how the sound of this engine compares to V8 and start looking at how it compares to other V6 engines because I think this sounds great when compred to other V6s
Tone is far better than before. Baja sounds a little throatier than normal.

With the supercharger is a monster! Added Nitto 420V’s , exhaust, Bed Lid, upgraded the sound system. Life is short!

Picking mine up day after tomorrow . Cant wait. Had no desire for the V-8. Comparatively speaking, my 911 Carrera S has a Akrapovic exhaust and sounds awesome. Im leaving the Raptor as is.
The outside Clips you can tell but I could see why inside you can't too much insulation these days to quiet the cab

Always wondered why ford didn't use equal length headers from the beginning (making it sound "smooth" vs. sounding like.....a 4.3 S10 with Glasspacks lol).
Take into consideration that the exhaust will take time to break in, just like a motor does when new. You may hear a slight variation in the tone in say 6 weeks or a few months from now. The 6 sounds good, but it's certainly not a burbly, snarling V8, Damn Smog nazis.
