I just dove this wreck today. There is a bit of a funny story behind this. Apparently people thought there was going to be a glorious "boom" and watch the ship sink pretty quick... little did they know it took 4 and a half hours for this to fully sink.
I did 3 years on her. They decommissioned it not long after I left. I'm surprised it took that long for it to sink. The hull was extremely thin. On one of my sound and security watches I dropped a sounding rod into shaft alley bilge to check for any rising water and it dropped straight through the hull. We had to pump shaft alley on a regular basis after that and it took the welder a long time to find enough metal thick enough to weld too to patch it. Good times.
truly blessed to be living there and watch this amazing event live! Coolest thing in my lifetime! can't wait to tell my children (if I have any that is) :)
@bonna2100 - This is good for the wildlife! Protects the small fish from storms. Coral and sponge will grow on it and it will be a haven for them. And please don't compare this to the Titanic, because there was no life lost. This was a marine conservation effort!
"Straighten up s traighten up straighten up straighten up straighten up!" The cameraman got his wish. The ship now rests under 62 feet of water, upright.
What a nonsense people should read before writting this kind of bullshit. As far as I concern this artificial reef is one of the best dive sites in the world, and It provides shelter to several different marine animals. This Ship was built with high-quality steel fresh from the mill. Contamination due to this shipwreek is almost 0.
Stern go in Square oh wow there she go there she go oh no don't do that don't do that oh no don't do that don't tdo that right right trainer turn up come on baby come on baby you can do it turn up turn up oh no turn up turn up turn up turn up
@roofy2k last time I checked fuel isn't good for fish lol, otherwise the BP oil spill wouldn't be such a big deal, and second, when metal starts to decay(rust) it poisons fish , I know this because I have Several reef tanks. So maybe you should research your stuff.
Damn people are dumb. They've been sinking ships for DECADES! It does not hurt anything. "I own several reef tanks" good for you dummy. I don't think you're replicating the ocean too closely with your tanks.
Wish the guy had shut up.
Agreed. I had to turn the video volume down it was so bad.
Agreed, just did.
And hold the damn camera still.

Awesome. I am from Va and very familiar with the ships that come from there. Thanks for making her so others can enjoy. Hope to one day dive there. :)

Was he the most annoying kid in his school? That guy won't SHUT UP!
Fr also why is your pfp Maximilian Musk 💀
nice commentary haha! glad it straightened itself out. hope i'll get to dive to it someday
Wow! How much is it to dive in the Cayman Islands? I would love to see this new haven and reef! A good deed! Well done!
It's best place in the world
A little pricier than other spots , but that’s Cayman for you. Dove a two tank dive there yesterday, for 160$ all in, sans fins/mask
Did it straighten up?
Why is it sinking
Did ppl pulley system up n fix the hole after this?
@iheartmuffy yea an artificial reef for divers and it'll help with tourist attractions and therefore revenue and local businesses

I saw this in the caymond islands under water with reefs everywhere

I remember the Kittywake.. not sure if it was in Charleston or La Maddalena
It was stationed in Norfolk. It was always moored on the South Wall.
Looks so nice
They are honking at you to put a sock in it.
I existed when it sank because I was born in 2010
That was simply Awesome.
Nice sinking in equal direction
The best dive I've ever done
If I was blindfolded I’d swear this was a prono
Best wreck dive in the world…..
I understand the reason behind the sinking, I just don’t like to see a ship sinking. It’s sad.
Yes, but this ship supports like under the waves!
Maybe, but at least this ship has an afterlife as a diving site and artificial reef, still intact. Would’ve been sad if it was scrapped instead.
Video was good until the jouster got excited and tried to tell the ship how to sink😢thumbs down 😢don't recommend channel 😢
I am snorkeling to this wreck in November
Nice
@@jamienicodemus5656 ikr! 2 days until we set sail
How was the dive?
@iheartmuffy. By the time it takes for "all that metal to rust and pollute the ocean"......do a little research please. Ever heard of THE TITANIC?
Beautiful dive site. :)
Hey you, I'd like to Margaret S on your face!
@@laid07 sus
@@DogeDaSlav it would be so hot!
next time stabilise you video with a program so we don't get sea sickness watching it nice video and capture toght 3*
Ohhhh, she is sinkin nowww.
Sad to see such a pretty ship go under.
But now it’s an artificial reef and favourite dive site! It’s a much better fate for the ship then getting scrapped

@demonicBerith Just thought I'd mention how infantile you appear to look. Nice. You're probably just passive aggressive just trying to vent.

@roofy2k oh and I meant to say marine life in my last comment
