I've always thought the way to make the pirates leave everyone alone would be to have a covert, extremely heavily armed shipping vessel, with a manifest of extremely valuable cargo sail around the area a lot. Periodically repaint/flag/name/modify the exterior of the vessel as camouflage., ..... Exterminate any attackers, after a while, and with enough pirates not returning home, the cost/benefit analysis on being a pirate becomes too costly.
These are amongst the poorest people on earth - they are just trying to feed their families in the middle of a war zone. And in the great majority of cases they haven't been violent towards crews. Fight them off, for sure. but there's no need for extra-judicial murder. Killing people is rarely the answer to anything - it just deprives kids of their fathers and builds hatreds.
Gonna have agree. Mother ships aren't cheap. A couple go missing and the sharks start following them around, the tactics will change. Granted they'd are just hired goons, by warlords. But hey. Black guns matter.

Wow, ship with full protections of so many Armed Guards, no wonder when the pirates saw those machine guns installed onboard your ship, they just pass by and perhaps they will just look for another ship that don't have Armed protection
This doesn't help the next unarmed merchant ship which will probably get attacked. The paramilitary should have waited for the attack and sent them to Davey Jones' Locker. The mind boggles!! 😱😱😱 We don't say, "oh look that's the guy that's a serial killer!" and then do nothing because he's not caught in the act of murder??? He gets arrested, and if he resists with firepower, he meets firepower.
I'm glad nothing happened but kinda disappointed at the same time. Who ever said an armed society is a polite society probably knew what they were talking about.
The mission was to protect the ship! Posturing, etc to prevent any chance of damage to vessel or personnel with direct action being last resort! Also, unlike pirates & terrorists these guys are bound by maritime law, international law, Geneva convention etc. If they were "attacked" then they would absolutely have "green light" to engage & defend themselves & the ship! Also, sounds like a Coalition Warship was nearby meaning witnesses but also backup!!!
I want to start a cruise line. Get the out of service cruise ship and go on a "Pirate" cruise. Of course the price will be very high. But not only will the meals etc be furnished...but the weapons and ammo will also be furnished. Just listen for the announcements over the PA system....Pirates spotted starboard side, first come first served.
You can argue argue all day about all the aspects, intricacies, and nuances of meeting piracy with force. All I know is that this would have been a perfect opportunity to rotate the phone and shoot horizontal video.
Someone translated that the Filipinos talked about _"perhaps they hadn't encounted pirates before."_ But I don't think that would impede their safe handling of the situation. Nice to see that some of the Shipping Owner/Company really cares by sending a lot of Armed Guards onboard while transiting Somali waters, if this had been done a long time ago, they might save a lot of ransom money.
You know what I find fascinating? These folks can arm themselves and fire at people to protect “things”, but a homeowner will get sued if they fire upon anyone to protect their “things”.
@@albertabirdman, of course it’s about the things. Surrender the cargo and let them have their things and all is well. The cargo is insured like the things in a home.
The mistake being made here is that they are showing them they have firepower. They should let them come closer before exposing their weapons; then open fire. They need to know that death is a very likely outcome when they approach a ship.
They already know this . Sadly Most of them are willing to take that chance . The high powered weapons flashed is usually enough of a deterrent for them to turn around. If they go further they proceed at their own peril at that point the crew is protecting themselves from immediate danger .
If you follow that course a) you put your own crew at risk of being shot b) you put your vessel at risk of being damaged and c) insurance premiums that are already high rocket even further. The owners want peaceful transit and they aren’t there to police the waters, they are in the logistics business not the armed aggression business.

That's why they keep doing it. They know no one's gonna shoot. I guarantee you if everyone just started ripping these guys to shreds if they got any sort of close, it would stop
If they kill pirate, no more job for them as security for hire coz no more pirate
My guess is that they are dutch marines. This approach seems somewhat uneffective. Just hide and have a shootout. Sadly these pirates were a generation ago fishermen. But they were put out of bussiness by overfishing by dutch mega fishing boats.

A failure, left those pirates to wreck havoc somewhere else, the armed security should be hidden until can launch a suprise attack on the pirates
This was clearly not a military mission. Prevention by deterring was the aim here and it was successful apparently.

Congratulations Chief Joel seems that your video gathers the most views with regard to piracy videos.
Nice to know that there were expert and patient Filipinos on board. They just laughed at the trailing pirates. Good move, Pinoys!
Someone translated that the Filipinos talked about _"perhaps they hadn't encounted pirates before."_ But I don't think that would impede their safe handling of the situation. The "guards" were marines from the Royal Dutch Navy on official duty. Their shorts and relaxed clothing because they are "off duty" unless when/ if a situation like this occurs.
Pirates retreat when upon seeing trees and shrubs moving around on the ship, and being extremely superstitious, it was considered a bad omen. Successful tactical planning by the A Team!
Hand a Bull
Just RIP those pirates to pieces
End they're nonsense
Leave one survivor to gi back and tell others what happens to pirates

They should have hid the guards and had them come out guns a blazing once the skinnies started scuttling the ship. That way you could eliminate the risk of them attacking future vessels.

Wasn't there some bogus international laws that made it illegal to have armed guards in ships even in dangerous areas such as this?

Nice to see that some of the Shipping Owner/Company really cares by sending a lot of Armed Guards onboard while transiting Somali waters, if this had been done a long time ago, they might save a lot of ransom money.

You know what I find fascinating? These folks can arm themselves and fire at people to protect “things”, but a homeowner will get sued if they fire upon anyone to protect their “things”.

I really wanted to see them try. The amount of time I lost waiting could’ve been used watching my flowers bloom.
It's good that you can see your enemies coming from miles away.
Oh the heart pounding action! I swear that wasn't me snoring.....really.
