      @BrassMedic  ปีที่แล้ว

It's definitely sone kind of bell made of brass and shows the same age as my conestoga bells and crotal bells I have found in 1850's context. This was too deep and at a site where is has to be early. My guess is it's a carriage sleigh bell. I have found exact matching pictures of it on Google Images.

    I enjoy your videos!
I haven't seen a halo cracking video utilizing the Manticore.
Halo cracking decouples the rust cloud from the target to aid in unmasking, separation and target location.
I'm commenting on the nail dig that begins at 5:42 min into the video.
This also applies the the 13:11 min dig as well, that gave you a one direction signal only.
I noticed that the initial target location (where you dug the hole) did not match the actual target location. The target was found in the sidewall of the hole.
The target generated high and low VDI values when compared to a 90 deg sweep. Possibly indicating a halo effect.
The quickest approach to deciphering the discrepancy of the two VDI values, or a one direction signal is to attempt to decouple the halo of rust from the target, rust (hydrated ferric oxide).
We decouple the target from the halo by cracking the soil with a trowel, shovel, probe and if the soil is soft and the target is close to the surface, by stomping on the ground with our feet.
If we suspect the halo effect is possible, assume that the target is not at the center of detection. We can reduce the risk of inadvertent damage to the target by cracking the soil at a greater distance from the indicated target location.
Another technique which takes more time is to check for (signal drift) ie does the target location move as you circle 360 degrees around it. If the location changes then consider the possibility of the halo effect. Pay very close attention to where you are detecting the signal on the coil, eg the tip, side or center. To see the signal drift be consistent with the signal detection location relative to the coil.
This is not to say that after halo cracking a ferrous object wont generate a nonconducting VDI number, a good audible tone and Target Trace on the conductivity center line. We know that can happen even with an air test. Those conductive signals have to be dug, if we are interested to learn what they are.
    NEW TOPIC
You have a beautiful spot loaded with ferrous objects next to the old well, which could be used to conduct a semi-controlled halo crack test.
    Test Idea:
Note that the soil moisture level will play a role in the outcome, so will soil temperature and other environmental factors. Your soil appears to be quite sloppy in some areas.
    Part 1:
Choose a spot by the old iron infested well, that includes as many iffy signals that you can get. It's the iffy signals that we want to evaluate.
Clearly outline a 3 foot by 3 foot plot, or larger if you have the time and energy.
Detect over the plot, stopping the sweep when the coil exits the plot perimeter.
Detect 90 degrees to the first sweep.
Video record this so we have a base line of audio to review.
Using something similar to a highly visible golf tee identify potential and/or iffy signals. Example: Green tee = dig it, Yellow tee = iffy target, Red tee = I wouldn't dig it, Blue tee = ferrous, etc., makeup more as you see fit. Assign a number to the tees so you can record your thoughts on paper before and after testing.
    Part 2:
Using your shovel every 6 or 9 inches crack the soil. 7 or 4 cracks up the Y-axis and linearly spaced inline across the X-axis. Simply put draw a horizontal lines across the plot every 6 or 9 inches and use your shovel to crack the soil along that line, with the first crack on the perimeter and ending on opposite side perimeter.
Insert the blade into the soil to a consistent depth, eg. to the top of the blade.
Crack the soil by rocking the blade back until you see the soil lift or heave. But not so far that you can pull a plug out.
    Part 3:
Detect and video record again over the entire plot, beginning from the same two plot perimeters that you started from previously.
    Record your observations and thoughts.
Did the golf tee signals change, in what way did they change, did they become stronger or weaker signals?
Did the target location change? In what direction did it move toward?
Did new targets appear that weren't there before and others disappear?
Were there reductions or an increase to the iron grunting after cracking the halos?
Did the iffy signals go away or did they become clearer after cracking the halos?
    Part 4:
Dig up all the golf tees and the new signals to see what they reveal.
Note the orientation of the targets as there could be clues to be learned.
I think that the soil moisture is going to play a significant role in this test.
It would be beneficial to replicate this test with varying soil moisture levels.
KISS, keep it simple the first time round.
    Part 5:
Note you can also test danblankenship suggestion and get two test out of one plot:
The main reason for 5kHz only is to see if the high-conductive metals stand out better over the ferrous and other lower-conductive targets. After you have picked the area for the high-conductive silver then go back using Multi-IQ for the jewelry.
The silver will react much stronger to the lower frequency and the iron would have sounded much weaker.

      @@BrassMedic Commentary:
I post this in hope that a scientist, engineer, physicist or qualified person can educate me. I know there must be some inaccurate assumptions, and incorrect use of terms made, these are what I would like to be corrected.
Relic Hunters desire depth, and depth comes from, among other machine settings, maximizing Sensitivity. Greater depth comes with a nonnegotiable price, we lose VDI accuracy, but we can still use audible sounds and/or vibration for target detection at greater depth.
The amount of energy put into the ground is throttled by the FCC. I believe it's 5 watts in the USA, and I have read that it might be 4 watts in the UK/Europe, I'm unsure if that is true?
There is not 50% more power going into the ground, less one caveat. Minelab has improved it's electronics, cabling, shielding, connectors, etc to allow more of the maximum allowable 5 watts to reach the coil. If they did improve usable coil wattage to its maximum of 5 watts, it would imply that the previous coils were only receiving ~3.333 watts. I highly doubt that's the case.
      Disclaimer:
What follows is probably not actually how Sensitivity works.
How I Presently Believe Sensitivity Works:
Increasing the Sensitivity setting amplifies the frequencies detected by the Rx coil (receiving coil), this amplified frequency is very noisy. The noisy amplified frequency is managed and filtered by among many other things, the new 50% more powerful Minelab DSP processor (Digital Signal Processing computer chip) which produces a signal indicating a target.
Improved EMI filtering and DSP processor allows the Manticore to run deep and quite while at full throttle in certain types of environments.
Because the signal originated from a highly amplified frequency, accuracy of the VDI is compromised. So you detect with audible and/or vibrational feedback. Not having access to a Manticore I can't comment on target separation, or unmasking with a high Sensitivity setting.

    • @pigeonbloodruby5330
      @pigeonbloodruby5330 ปีที่แล้ว

@@BrassMedic I have not watched a Manticore Sensitivity setting of 35 (depth) test video.
      Sensitivity (Depth) Test:
      Location:
The location must allow for a stable and continuous Sensitivity setting of 35.
Ideally dig the pit in a low EMI environment, low to moderately mineralized soil, low water saturation, and the soil should be free of ferrous and non ferrous rubbish.
      Test Objects:
Choose common objects such that others can compare their results derived from their unique environments to your test results and environment.
How deep will any detector detect is based primarily on the target form/shape, orientation and metal composition on its surface, the targets mass is negligible. Review Loren Lemcke video before choosing your test targets.
Why is it harder to detect coins on edge? | Practical Metal Detector Physics Lesson #1
      Loren Lemcke
      th-cam.com/video/_OY1Ow37iNI/w-d-xo.html
      Pit:
Dig a pit 3 to 4 feet deep with holes drilled horizontally at a minimum depth of 2.5X the coil diameter.
Place a level on the shank of the drill to make sure you don't alter the depth (projection error). Don't wear loose clothing around a rotating shaft.
This video demonstrates what the pit could look like:
Gold Coin Test- XP Deus,Nexus Standard MkII, AKA Sorex, Minelab SE
      th-cam.com/video/QJ5ySjnL5sU/w-d-xo.html
      Recovery Speed:
Test to see if the sweep speed makes a difference with low Recovery Speed values.
      Test every Recovery Speed value.
Be consistent with your sweep speed relative to the Recovery Speed setting at various test depths.
I think I read that 4 seconds per 3 feet is generally accepted as medium or slow sweep speed?
      Noise Cancel:
Note that every time that you change the sensitivity you must Noise Cancel.
      How to Noise Cancel:
Hold the coil parallel and above the terrain high enough that the soil doesn't have an EMI effect. Don't angle the coil face up and point the face of the coil at a transformer or airplane.
You can have the coil inline with the transformer, just don't point the face of the coil at the EMI source. There may be competing EMI signals that intersect the coil which may be dependent on the coil orientation. When Noise Canceling the computer is searching for a clear channel, but let the machine find it with the coil in the orientation of use.
Precedence of Machine Parameter Settings (order-of-events):
There is a precedence (order-of-events) of setting the machine parameters to achieve the maximum target acquisition at depth.
I have edited NASA-Tom comments and tried to fill in the blanks that NASA-Tom didn't mention. The link to the original posting is attached below.
      Disclaimer:
Assume that errors exist, omissions were made and that improvements can be made from this edited piece:
The (order-of-events) of setting the detector parameters is (sequential) and import for your metal detector to operate at it's peak performance.

Sensitivity (try to increase Sensitivity again)
      Long press noise cancel
(Ground balance) I'm not sure that GB needs to be done again, up to you to figure out what works best.
An option (for mitigation of iron falsing) is to manually set the Ground Balance to 0, adjust the sensitive for depth, noise cancel often.
Every time you adjust Mode, Recovery Speed, or Sensitivity, you should also long press noise cancel.

Awesome video! I am fortunate to hunt a field filled with colonial coins and relics. Long story short, I started with the 800 dug every signal and wrote down the VDIs of every good find. After a year, 90 percent of the time I could tell you what was coming out of the hole. I never dismissed the iffy signals because I have found silver with those type. 5 minutes of my time to find a square nail is better than passing up a lifetime find. That’s my take on it and I will do the same thing when my manticore comes in. Some people in the small town got wind of my findings, I saw four guys one day lined up walking the field with detectors. It was a spot I hunted many times, I came in after they left behind them, went very slow with the Nox and pulled a Reale. Fields are never hunted out in my opinion.

    Late to the party here...
When I'm digging in good soil like that and want to know the depth of my finds, I dig to the side of the signal and use the pointer on the wall to determine where the find actually is. Then you can get a pretty good idea on the depth of the target. Then just pull or dig it out of the wall.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  หลายเดือนก่อน

Interesting technique I see what your saying, I would be too afraid of this technique with me accidently scratching a coin and also digging in a nice grass or lawn at a park and going sideways. But I'm sure after watching you do it a couple times I would understand more about that technique. Thank you for the view and tip/comment!!

That target percussion cap at 33:00 minutes was good until you moved it then it was being masked by the surrounding iron trash and nails. This happens to me alot hunting these very high iron and square nails sites. Some of the most difficult hunting but the rewards can be huge. The M8 coil or a small 6" round really help out in this trash but it still happens. Move the good target just a little bit and disturb the soil and it's suddenly masked by metal and it vanishes. Super frustrating as the pinpointer sounds off on everything.

    • @BrassMedic

I took it to a trashy park the first day I had it but didn't film anything. I was able to run it at 22 sensitivity comfortably. I ran it in All-Terrain High Conductor (which I am sure uses low frequencies) but never would have thought to run it at 5kHz unless I was in a cleaner, older section of the Park. But I will do that soon. I have a park trip planned Wednesday to an older park where nothing is left but DEEP silver...! Will be a big test! 😁 Happy New Years! 🎉🎊

The main reason for 5kHz only is to see if the high-conductive metals stand out better over the ferrous and other lower-conductive targets. After you have picked the area for the high-conductive silver then go back using Multi-IQ for the jewelry.

I don't own this machine, I use the Nox-800. I search exclusively in 4kHz. I have found many gold targets even with this low frequency. The Nox will hit gold as low as VDI-1 and the 11g ring hit at VDI-18. What I noticed about gold, the VDI number is always very stable, it might jump one digit, but most of the time it hits the same number constantly. When I hear a solid lower VDI, I will jump up to 40kHz to listen if the target comes in louder and the VDI is still solid. I also double-check most of my targets to see what Multi-IQ has to say about the target.
I have continually found many of my good finds would have been very difficult to spot had I been searching in Multi-IQ. If I forget to put it back into 4kHz after a dig, then I'm quickly reminded how much falsing and chatter I eliminate by using the single-frequency mode.
I rarely dig pull tabs anymore, if Multi-IQ is showing a pretty stable VDI of 14, 15, 16, or 17, but 4kHz is showing a jumpy VDI bouncing from 18 to 30 then I walk away. Thin aluminum doesn't react very well with 4kHz.

    • @captnse
      @captnse ปีที่แล้ว

@@danblankenship5744 what about crown caps in 4kHz on your Nox? Do you dig those often? Target ID’s are so unstable in single freq 4kHz….many crown caps sound like deep silver when I went into that mode….I have found hundreds of deep silver and copper coinage in Multi-IQ, and only 3 or 4 deep silver in 4 KHz….I probably could find a lot more deeper higher conductors in 4kHz if it weren’t for a lot of mid conductor trash (and crown caps) sounding like deeper silver.

But I do own every modern metal detector by all top manufacturers and currently when I walk out the door I always reach for my Manticore with the M8 coil on it it has surpassed all of my other machines and I trust it more and feel I better connection to the ground with it. 95% of all my best Treasures have came from my CTX 3030 but the Manticore with the M8 coil is now better at Target separation and has surpassed my trusty old CTX 3030. Hopefully Minelab can get this issue ironed out with future software upgrades. The 2D thing looks cool but from all the vids i've seen, it is quirkey at best. Hi John, I totally understand. Good point! The 2D feature has an inherent problem in that they named it "Target Trace". That name implies that it is an actual 2D representation of the shape or morphology of the target. When all it actually is, is an X-Y plot with X being conductivity and Y being Ferrous. Lots of confusion about this and may are discouraged not understanding what it really is or does. I'm doing a full video explaining all of this on Monday. Thank you for the view and comment! 🤠

Tru-Spec Tactical Kneepads. I have tried dozens of Brands but these are the best. As soon as you buy them you should go buy some clear Flexseal in the spray can and do many coats on the back cloth. That is the key to making them so that they won't slip down your leg as well as keep stickers from getting in the cloth. There are also easier to clean because they're completely waterproof at that point. They used to sell this brand at Home Depot but now you have to order them online from different retailers like Midway USA, etc. Thanks for the view and comment/question! 🤠
