We always like to try new food in every country we go to, and all the locals said Balut was a unique thing we had to try! I know the Filipino community either loves or hates Balut. Who loves Balut that has tried it??

I've only eaten it once tbh. There are actually different "ages". I must have had the 18-day Balut. Some say the 16-day Balut is best for beginners since the duck embryo isn't as developed yet.
Btw, we don't use a plate when eating Balut. We peel off the shell little by little as we eat. And there's also the Balut Penoy which is just plain duck egg with no embryo. It has a richer taste than chicken egg. :)

It's a traditional dish with a strong flavor and unique texture.

I’m from Philippines originally …..I wish people there would stop pushing balut to scare tourists. It’s one of the reasons why our cuisine hasn’t hit mainstream yet. I’m sure you got challenged by a local or a subscriber. Anyway, Balut isn’t even unique to the Philippines. You can also find it in Vietnam and other Asian countries. Balut is good if you don’t let it get to you. It’s a psychological thing, that’s also why back then it was sold and consumed at night so we won’t see what it looks like. You just eat it in a couple of bites. The broth is good….I saw that you guys put vinegar on it. When I was growing up we never put vinegar on Balut, just rock salt. I think it’s better without the vinegar. The white part we don’t even eat unless it’s not too tough. Gosh you’re brave eating it that way. We don’t even separate it. We just eat it blindly and enjoy it. You’re also lucky the chick is small.

We actually never saw Balut anywhere else in Asia except in the Philippines. I'm sure other countries also eat it, we just didn't find it. i dont know why foreigners go straight for the balut 😂😂 maybe coz of lack of information online? but you should try PENOY 1st.. its the balut without the duck.

We haven't seen penoy or heard about it so thanks for sharing! It would have been nice to ease into it 😂

Maybe they enjoy watching us scared to try it! 🤣 I'm sure they also want to share their personal love for it as a culural delicacy ❤️

That filipina balut vendor should tell you not to eat the white hard part of balut.

The white part was very rubber like and hard....

The local told us we can eat it all but the white was very hard and like rubber...😬

YOU DON'T EAT IT BIT BY BIT.... YOU PUT THE WHOLE OF IT INTO YOUR MOUTH AND CHEW IT..... what you did is you dissected the egg...🤔

It was our first time trying it... we were doing our best to follow the instructions of the local. I'm sure it would have been better not to look at the Chick separately since it doesn't look too good..😬 We will try eating it all together next time and a 12 day as some suggested we would like better..😊

Any explorer should get out of the comfort zone, otherwise you are just wasting your time to achieve your goal.

It's a delicacy not every Filipino eats it. 2 thumps for you guys tried it.

No need to put it in the saucer, eat it straight up from the shell, typically done and much better.

It was our first time trying them and the vendor didn't give us full instructions. If we try it again we will get a younger egg and eat it all at once. Everyone is telling us we will like it better that way! 😊
