This Aprilia is really good news for me. I am your size and weight exactly. I ride a drz 400 sm with seat height of 890mm, so this Tuareg should fit me better than the Tenere 700. Apart from that the Tuareg surpasses the T7 in every way. Reliability is to be seen. Some will say it will not be as reliable, but for me, if it, at least, moderately approaches the t7 in reliability, I would be happy, just as a land Rover is not as reliable as a Toyota land cruiser. For me, the downside of the t7 is that it is taller, more top heavy, lacks cruise control and other long distance comforts and safety. The Tuareg is sportier on the road, also, increasing fun factor, something I really look for in a motorbike.
I liked the Aprilia, when it came out. Now I sad on it and it is too tall for me. I am 174 cm and my inside leg is 80 cm. So similar to Mark. It's a pity.

Indeed. Your comment is spot on. I feel exactly the same way. Currently owning a KTM 1190 R Adventure. Beleive me, i am loving my bike. The brute force it has. Happy about wearing a helmet cause otherwise other travelers would stop me. Thinking that something must be very wrong with me. Looking at my face having a constant very weird smile. 😂 Damn, when you are pulling up you feel those two big cillinders ripping and it is giving you a blast.🙏 Such an incredible feeling. Almost better then sex but this could be due to my wife and compairing it to those before her is such a long time ago that it would be dishonest. Honesty is also what i am looking at in a bike review. So atleast i should do the same. A man has to keep his integrity at a high standard.😂 What you are pointing at about the the T7 is so true. Man what is it topheavy. That is why i sold my Triumph 800 XC years ago. Only had it for two years. A good engine after going to the dealer with a bucket of gasoline and telling him that i would burn his place down if he would not fix the constant stalling of the engine when idling and changing gears. Died almost 5 times with that bike. Riding 10 meters in front of a truck while the engine suddenly stopped.😬 And i told him for months what the problem was and how he could fix it. After 6 months it got finally fixed. But all in all it was not a bike for going offroad. And i came to a point in my life where i got so frustrated after owning several bikes that were much to topheavy. And being also angry at myself that i bought them myself i made up my mind to sell it and never ever buy a bike again that was topheavy. So there is no way that i am ever going to buy the T7. Although it is a very good bike i know that i will shoot myself being so stupid for buying yet again a topheavy bike. I know that i will miss my 1190 R. And that i am willing to make some adjustments to my needs about my next bike. The basic wish is that it has a low center of gravity. As low as possible. It has to tick the right boxes for offroad. But also that it is good on the tarmac so it can bring me with some comfort to those places going away from the tarmac. All in all a good bike for long distance travel. 5000 till 8000 miles. My next trip is 7 weeks through Turkey and going 40-50 percent offroad. Exploring the backcountry. If the 890 R Adventure would be a reliable bike i already would have owned one. Cause it ticks all the other boxes very well. Just one not. 😪 Until now from what i have seen it looks that the 660 is a good bike for doing all of this. A little more grunt compaired to the T7 is also nice. But what about reliability ? We do not know yet. And there is not even a luggagerack. Will Aprillia allow third parties to create their own stuff for this bike ? I will need my Kriega Overlander luggage system. And putting a Rotopax at the inside of the luggagerack is also very welcome. For the ease of mind when exploring the backcountry. I know that you are taking some more risc with this bike riding through the Middle East when something brakes down. To me it comes down to two choices alone. This Aprillia or a 890 R Adventure. If this 660 has got the same reliability as the 890 R Adventure then my choice has been made. So i hope that a few people will make a high milleage very soon with their 660. 👍
Traded in a Triumph Tiger and a Royal Enfield Himalayan for the Tuareg. No regrets whatsoever. Love this go anywhere, do anything bike. As you said, the engine is sublime!!

Nice review and thumbs up on being one of the few You Tubers I've seen who do Life Savers while riding. So many people focus on looking good riding, they forget basic road safety. Just had to cancel my road test due to man flu but 99% this will be my next bike.
In appearance a nod to both the Husqvarna and Tenere but as you demonstrated, an inspiring motor and that unique Aprilia aesthetic. Great bit of gravel escapade 👍
@@alexgirald8207 well I had about 50k miles on my 2017 Africa Twin until a mini van ended it’s life. Honda is as reliable as it gets. If you don’t count going through 3 cam chain tensioners, then it was very reliable. I’ve got 5k miles on the Taureg and so far, it’s been rock solid. Hasn’t burned or dropped an ounce oil oil. Nothing has broken and it starts up every time. Any vehicle can break down on you. Yes it’s easier to get a Harley or a Japanese bike repaired when in a trip but isn’t a trip about the experience anyways. I’ve done one multi state trip with it and I had no worries doing so. I have another planned next month. For some it’s reliability and for others, it’s more about comfort and “smile” factor.
Done a 2h testride with the Tuareg and i really enjoyed it here in the Black Forest. Yellow would have been my color of choice. Ultimately bought a KTM 890 Adv R, but it was a really close call. Nothing wrong with the Aprilia and its quite a bit cheaper.
Great review - at last an aesthetically pleasing bike!. Almost pretty,.. .The long red bit on the seat is striking. Higher torque twin(different camshaft) - must be relaxing on the road with the low grunt . Its a rival to the Yamaha Tenere.( Sahara desert!) £1000 more gets you all the electronics and groovy TFT, the Yam is pretty basic. Tuono is italian for thunder Tuareg refers to those people of the Sahara... yeah - nice--but offroad -never tried it intentionally lol
Looks like an amazing bike, but man is it pricey and I don't fancy buying the first model year. Guess It'll be the CB500X for me. Maybe in 2024 I'll grab the Tuareg. Thanks for the review.

Hi Mark...Thanks for the review. Currently riding a 2016 CB 500 X and was watching your review of the 2022 model with interest. Some worthwhile and noticeable upgrades by the sounds of it. Appreciate that the Tuareg is a significantly more expensive bike, with superior tech and suspension, but pound for pound, which of the two bikes mentoned would you suggest is the best value for the outlay? Dropping a few hundred quid on a good rear shock, and some decent protection and I reckon the new X would be sufficient for the type of trails most owners would be likely to see...Much as I love the aesthetics and capability of the Tuareg, was just wondering whether the Honda would be a better all rounder for the money?
Hi Billy yes definitely the honda is better value and absolutely fine for most light off road conditions...the price difference of like 4 k plus is huge ...the Tuareg is definitely a top machine and it's engine is brilliant but yes the hondas value can't be beaten cheers mark

Heart says Tuareg, head (and bank balance) says Honda. 4K buys a lot of goodies and travel time! It's a pity Triumph didn't go further down the adv route with the 660 sport. Having said that, I wish Honda would bring out a higher spec version of the X (spoked tubeless rims, fully adjustable quality suspension, 70hp)....maybe the new Transalp?!

Love that sound, seems like the engine is in the sweet spot for power. Having said that, I'm not sure I'd feel 100% confident out in the sticks with no cell reception on an Italian bike -- although nothing says "adventure" quite like being stranded in the middle of nowhere!
I'm often out on my Aprilia, and then realise I didn't put my phone in my pocket..... Doesn't bother me, cos she's ultra reliable and has never let me down. All year round bike too.
Tested a Tuareg at Dearden's today and they also gave us a Tuono so we could ride out together. We both loved the Tuareg perfectly manageable for our heights. The Tuono was nice but not our style of bike. Bloody peppy though!
Love the Tuareg, and was hoping it could be a stable mate for my 2009 Aprilia Pegaso Strada 660. Not really thinking that now, due to price. After 29000 trouble free miles, she continues to be a great bike to own.

It would be informative to hear from RS660 and Tuono 660 owners regarding their experience so far in terms of reliability and issues. This bike ticks a bunch of boxes for a middleweight adventure motorbike.
A friend of mine had the 660 tuono. First thing was the recall for the engine thar's well known. Then he was riding in the alps and it rained. Suddenly the bike stopped, it had electronic problems. Which took a while to solve, he needed a tow back home because the bike wouldn't ride. He also lost the neutral of the gearbox, couldn't find it at all. Now he traded it in for a Ninja1000, riding it was amazing but the problems in 6months is a bit too much. But the bikes are really beautiful!
Mark, judging by how you were dressed, it was not a particularly warm day in the UK the day of your test ride. Given that, are you able to make any comments about perceived engine heat? Thanks.
@@markpulling12 all very different bikes. I do love how diverse motorcycling is these days. Funnily I was looking at the classic 350, street twin, moto guzzi v8. The trident looked low when you sat on that, and was surprised the cbr650 was low on you.

Is this bike good for just day to day riding? I know it can do more but at first I would just ride daily to work and then get into the long range/off road stuff.

Still think I prefer the Tenere looks wise but great riding position! Wonder if longer journeys numb bum? (But its for adv riding so assumes you arent going to be sat in the saddle 2hrs plus)
@@georgechrysaphinis6761 Hi George, I've not noticed any more heat from this bike compared to any other water cooled bike with a fan... My GSXR750 is worse for heat TBH. The Tuareg does get warm when the fan blows the hot air at your legs, but no more than any other bike really. My Beta is cooler WRT the engine heat, but that doesn't have a fan, but the exhaust from that gets very hot instead. In short, not really any different :-) I generally wear proper bike kit though, although on road rides I do wear biking jeans.
Was going to get one until i found out that American dealers are dropping Aprilia due to the company's crappy business practices. A nice bike it might be, but there are hardly enough service centers.
Nice looking bike and good review, however I’m sticking with my tried and tested VStrom 650, super reliable, is a real vee twin and all day comfortable. I think that Aprilia would be too tall for me anyway.
I just hope this doesn’t turn into another Italian money-pit… If all the features on this bike were on a Japanese bike I would be much more confident but just like the new Norden is showing that it’s plagued with the ‘790 cancer’ this bike may inherit some of the issues showing on the RS660 sibling… Early adopters must hope for the best 🙏🙏 Or wait a bit 😝😁🤣
I find it very difficult to surmise anything from a British bike review, because I can only begin to feel what the bike is like when I hit 120 mph and all the British reviews never go over 70. Bikes like this don't even begin to perform until you surpass that speed limit. I feel sorry for British drivers you're buying bikes that can do 180 km to 230 km an hour and you're driving them along at 120 destroying the engine with low revs. I do 170 km an hour to 200 on my Ducati Night Shift, and when I see people doing 70 mph on one and a review I think "what did you buy that bike for? You might as well have bought a CB 300 or some thing because you're never going to go any faster than a 300 cc you can go so what do you doing with the super bike Ducati Desmos engine? The law doesn't allow you to use it, or you don't dare to break the law. We don't have a speed limit in Thailand except in front of school buildings and things and in villages. So you can drive as fast as he wants just like in Germany. Really feel sorry for people in countries where you can't torture your bike to the limit. I still bikes like this when I hear statements like "it has semi Nobilis so you can go off the road a bit", I really laugh my ass off because here in Thailand people go off road through potholes and mud and up mountains on a Honda Fino or a Honda wave hundred cc scooter. So if she can do it on 100 cc scooter like we do in Thailand, it's stupid to say that then adventure bike like an Aprilia Touareg is able to go off road "a little bit". You can do absolutely anything you want on this bike off road because if you can do it on a Honda dream scooter and we do in Thailand, then of course you can do it on a bike like this. I think Great Britain seems to have blinkers on when it comes to the limits of Motorcycles. I wonder if the content creators of these reviews realize that if they just scream along at 150 mph and publish the video it doesn't mean the cops are going to come around and bust them for god sake. What are your review is afraid of with the speed limit? Do you live so much in fair under the pressure of your government that you don't break the speed limit in a TH-cam video? How terrible that's what I call Mas enslavement of the nation

You've got some gaping holes in your review. Just about any motorcycle feels adequate at 10-20mph on a groomed two-track. I was running between 45 to 70mph on desert roads along the Arizona/Mexico border this weekend on my old '13 Tiger 800XC. And covering hundreds of miles on tarmac when leaving home and returning, all at 65 to 80mph. You got on the highway at 70-75mph for maybe 10 miles. How does it feel after 100 miles? Wind fatigue? Seat comfort on a long ride? How is it at 8000ft altitude? Can it carry a 200 pound rider with luggage over the Rockies or the Alps and not get pasted by surrounding traffic at 75mph? I'm inferring from your description that the ride height and stance is aimed at a 5'10" to 6' rider as target demographic, but the wind screen seems to give you slight buffeting at the shoulders at your 5'7" height. So for a 6' rider there will be more wind buffeting since his head and shoulders will be higher above the wind screen. What is aftermarket support like for this bike? Who is making engine and tank guards for it? Pannier racks? Does Aprilia offer a tail rack? How sturdy are those OEM handguards (they look like cosmetic plastic garbage that will break on the first tip-over)?
All good points Kelly....but reviews in the UK are very limited as to what we can actually do with a shiny demo bike from a dealer for a couple of hours ...I give viewers info and an overview of the bike..then people can go and make their own minds up ....I'm sure on the web there are full blown off road reviews on this bike ...thanks for watching Best regards mark

Hi Mark...Thanks for the review. Currently riding a 2016 CB 500 X and was watching your review of the 2022 model with interest. Some worthwhile and noticeable upgrades by the sounds of it. Appreciate that the Tuareg is a significantly more expensive bike, with superior tech and suspension, but pound for pound, which of the two bikes mentoned would you suggest is the best value for the outlay? Dropping a few hundred quid on a good rear shock, and some decent protection and I reckon the new X would be sufficient for the type of trails most owners would be likely to see...Much as I love the aesthetics and capability of the Tuareg, was just wondering whether the Honda would be a better all rounder for the money?
Hi Billy yes definitely the honda is better value and absolutely fine for most light off road conditions...the price difference of like 4 k plus is huge ...the Tuareg is definitely a top machine and it's engine is brilliant but yes the hondas value can't be beaten cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks for getting back Mark. Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare the two bikes in the same category, but I imagine there would be potential owners eyeing up both. Heart says Tuareg, head (and bank balance) says Honda. 4K buys a lot of goodies and travel time! It's a pity Triumph didn't go further down the adv route with the 660 sport. Having said that, I wish Honda would bring out a higher spec version of the X (spoked tubeless rims, fully adjustable quality suspension, 70hp)....maybe the new Transalp?!

Love that sound, seems like the engine is in the sweet spot for power. Having said that, I'm not sure I'd feel 100% confident out in the sticks with no cell reception on an Italian bike -- although nothing says "adventure" quite like being stranded in the middle of nowhere!

I'm often out on my Aprilia, and then realise I didn't put my phone in my pocket..... Doesn't bother me, cos she's ultra reliable and has never let me down. All year round bike too.

Tested a Tuareg at Dearden's today and they also gave us a Tuono so we could ride out together. We both loved the Tuareg perfectly manageable for our heights. The Tuono was nice but not our style of bike. Bloody peppy though!

Love the Tuareg, and was hoping it could be a stable mate for my 2009 Aprilia Pegaso Strada 660. Not really thinking that now, due to price. After 29000 trouble free miles, she continues to be a great bike to own.

It would be informative to hear from RS660 and Tuono 660 owners regarding their experience so far in terms of reliability and issues. This bike ticks a bunch of boxes for a middleweight adventure motorbike.

A friend of mine had the 660 tuono. First thing was the recall for the engine thar's well known.
Then he was riding in the alps and it rained. Suddenly the bike stopped, it had electronic problems. Which took a while to solve, he needed a tow back home because the bike wouldn't ride.
He also lost the neutral of the gearbox, couldn't find it at all.
Now he traded it in for a Ninja1000, riding it was amazing but the problems in 6months is a bit too much.
But the bikes are really beautiful!

Funnily I was looking at the classic 350, street twin, moto guzzi v8. The trident looked low when you sat on that, and was surprised the cbr650 was low on you.

Still think I prefer the Tenere looks wise but great riding position! Wonder if longer journeys numb bum? (But its for adv riding so assumes you arent going to be sat in the saddle 2hrs plus)
Did a 9hr days riding on my Tuareg 660 last week, no issues with comfort and the bike is incredible in the dirt! :-)

@@georgechrysaphinis6761 Hi George, I've not noticed any more heat from this bike compared to any other water cooled bike with a fan... My GSXR750 is worse for heat TBH. The Tuareg does get warm when the fan blows the hot air at your legs, but no more than any other bike really. My Beta is cooler WRT the engine heat, but that doesn't have a fan, but the exhaust from that gets very hot instead. In short, not really any different :-) I generally wear proper bike kit though, although on road rides I do wear biking jeans.

Was going to get one until i found out that American dealers are dropping Aprilia due to the company's crappy business practices. A nice bike it might be, but there are hardly enough service centers.
Nice looking bike and good review, however I’m sticking with my tried and tested VStrom 650, super reliable, is a real vee twin and all day comfortable. I think that Aprilia would be too tall for me anyway.

I find it very difficult to surmise anything from a British bike review, because I can only begin to feel what the bike is like when I hit 120 mph and all the British reviews never go over 70. Bikes like this don't even begin to perform until you surpass that speed limit. I feel sorry for British drivers you're buying bikes that can do 180 km to 230 km an hour and you're driving them along at 120 destroying the engine with low revs. I do 170 km an hour to 200 on my Ducati Night Shift, and when I see people doing 70 mph on one and a review I think "what did you buy that bike for? You might as well have bought a CB 300 or some thing because you're never going to go any faster than a 300 cc you can go so what do you doing with the super bike Ducati Desmos engine? The law doesn't allow you to use it, or you don't dare to break the law. We don't have a speed limit in Thailand except in front of school buildings and things and in villages. So you can drive as fast as he wants just like in Germany. Really feel sorry for people in countries where you can't torture your bike to the limit. I still bikes like this when I hear statements like "it has semi Nobilis so you can go off the road a bit", I really laugh my ass off because here in Thailand people go off road through potholes and mud and up mountains on a Honda Fino or a Honda wave hundred cc scooter. So if she can do it on 100 cc scooter like we do in Thailand, it's stupid to say that then adventure bike like an Aprilia Touareg is able to go off road "a little bit". You can do absolutely anything you want on this bike off road because if you can do it on a Honda dream scooter and we do in Thailand, then of course you can do it on a bike like this. I think Great Britain seems to have blinkers on when it comes to the limits of Motorcycles. I wonder if the content creators of these reviews realize that if they just scream along at 150 mph and publish the video it doesn't mean the cops are going to come around and bust them for god sake. What are your review is afraid of with the speed limit? Do you live so much in fair under the pressure of your government that you don't break the speed limit in a TH-cam video? How terrible that's what I call Mas enslavement of the nation

You've got some gaping holes in your review. Just about any motorcycle feels adequate at 10-20mph on a groomed two-track. I was running between 45 to 70mph on desert roads along the Arizona/Mexico border this weekend on my old '13 Tiger 800XC. And covering hundreds of miles on tarmac when leaving home and returning, all at 65 to 80mph. You got on the highway at 70-75mph for maybe 10 miles. How does it feel after 100 miles? Wind fatigue? Seat comfort on a long ride? How is it at 8000ft altitude? Can it carry a 200 pound rider with luggage over the Rockies or the Alps and not get pasted by surrounding traffic at 75mph?
I'm inferring from your description that the ride height and stance is aimed at a 5'10" to 6' rider as target demographic, but the wind screen seems to give you slight buffeting at the shoulders at your 5'7" height. So for a 6' rider there will be more wind buffeting since his head and shoulders will be higher above the wind screen.
What is aftermarket support like for this bike? Who is making engine and tank guards for it? Pannier racks? Does Aprilia offer a tail rack? How sturdy are those OEM handguards (they look like cosmetic plastic garbage that will break on the first tip-over)?
All good points Kelly....but reviews in the UK are very limited as to what we can actually do with a shiny demo bike from a dealer for a couple of hours ...I give viewers info and an overview of the bike..then people can go and make their own minds up ....I'm sure on the web there are full blown off road reviews on this bike ...thanks for watching
