I pick up my blue and white Tuareg tomorrow! I'm 71 yo and have been riding since age 13. I have a 1974 Honda XL350 that I bought new and built the engine to be a duplicate of the Bill Bell/American Honda's Baja 1000 winning bike; a 449cc annimal. I also have a 1975 Honda XL175 that I bought new. I built it into a 267cc beast. That bike got a full "Powroll" treatment. My newest motorcycle is a 1985 BMW K100RS - a 560lb long distance sport touring bike. I love those bikes but they don't fit my current needs or desires. I expect the Tuareg to be an ideal marriage of the two realms. I'm looking for the best balance of capabilities with the fewest compromises, available today, and I think I found it. The only negative is that there are only about 70 Aprilia dealerships in the U.S. I think that the Tuareg is going to attract a different type of rider, and, I believe, a larger pool of riders than their sport bikes attract. Despite having fewer dealerships, there are 8 Tuaregs available within 200 miles of me (upstate NY). But the Honda CRF300 is about as sparse, despite Honda's dealership network. The CRF300LS (low seat), and the Transalp 750 are nonexistent yet. Piaggio can (hoppefully) improve the dealership issue. Another consideration was that the Japanese bikes I was looking at had a one year warantee; while the Aprilia has a two year warantee. That says something.
I just got this bike couple days ago and I love it I was trying to find Yamaha Tenere nowhere to be found so I settled to this and I’m glad I did the bike is amazing

Here's a few thoughts on the T7 and the Tuareg. T7: engine slightly larger but with lower state of tune = well proven unburstable round-the-world reliability and practicality. Tuareg: excellent competitive price, suspension and electronics. Both bikes: rackless luggage covers the rear lights? Less than satisfactory bash plate, seat and screen: ADV bike manufacturers seem to have a "silent agreement" to sustain the aftermarket parts industry.
Have had mine since spring, most entertaining and satisfying motorcycle I've ever ridden and 0 regrets. Will be keeping it for a long time, glad I took a leap of faith vs trying to get a T7 (a bike i wanted for years)
They had the G 650 GS, but the kind of people with the money to get those (in general) are the kind of people that believes "more is ALWAYS better" and thats why we have 150 pound people riding 500+ pounds bikes, or 5000 pounds vehicles full of empty seats... It has never been about being practical or useful or logical... Its about flash and lots of money
I had the f750 gs and now i own a f850gs adv. I m very happy with both bikes. I don t see why they should be lighter. For adv riding, go buy a Honda crf 300 and have fun. Everything else is just marketing.

If I had my choice, this would be my next bike. The only problem is the nearest Aprilia dealer to me is 450 miles and 7 hours away. The dealer network is the only thing stopping me.
Great takes on the 660, intriguing bike. Would love to see something under 400lbs and $10kusd that's decent out of the box like a crf300l rally with a cb500x engine, comfy seat, and decent suspension.
A few months ago my vote was for YOU to buy the Tuareg 660 but you just had to buy that Nordon! And now you have to buy both lol! Great review. Thanks for your excellent work.
Great review. Not running from my T7 to this. Parts cost and reliability will hamper this bike. My friend bought an RS660 as soon as they hit dealers and has already sold it. It spent most of its life at the dealer with oil consumption and other various issues. In the end, they had to replace the entire engine and it was a several month wait. Time will tell if this bike is plagued by the same issues.
It probably will Buying a hot Italian stallion fresh off it’s debut is a mistake only a novice motorcyclist will do. Let run for a couple of years at least before pulling the trigger on this ‘Beretta’ 🤣🤣 Addictive sound though 😅😅 Cheers 🛵🛵
@@BlazinBlades , so then the buyer isn’t usually a novice motorcyclist, but a motorcyclist who usually has several bikes in the stable and is wanting to have the latest greatest. They are willing to take the risk because if it has to go to the shop they can still ride, and if it isn’t for them they just trade it at the end of the season. Those people look at buying and selling Motorcycles as paying for an experience, not unlike going on a vacation.
I rode it a couple times that weekend, and really enjoyed it. Strong enough on the pavement, I’m real capable in the sand and dirt gravel. Feels like a bike I could ride all day standing up.
Thanks for finally reviewing this bike. I was all set for the Norden, but the reliability off the bat is in question. I called a dealer for the Norden and the told me they had a technical service bulletin on the leaky radiator. I think the Aprilla Toureg might be the one. There are two dealers in the Denver/Co Springs area. Great review!
I'm looking at my next bike and was down to the Rally Pro, Norden or Desert X but this really interests me. Thanks for getting this video out there. My decision just got even harder.
Bought one two days ago. There was one minor "issue" I encountered during my test ride... maybe I am dork but I sometimes turned on the high beam when using the clutch. That trigger switch position is a little awkward. I found that sometimes I just happen to touch it when operating the clutch and boom jumps right into high beam on... I chose the Tuareg over the Tenere because of the electronics and it is a bit lower in seat height while having better ground clearance and more suspension travel. I didn't like the look of the Tuareg much when I watched videos and photos. In person however I came to actually like the looks. Still there is one design elements I think it could do without: The fake vents on the nose... like why is this even a thing? Anyway should receive mine in June. Bought the indigo blue one, a tad more expensive but it makes it pop more and gives it more of a rally vibe, the tricolour is just a classic.

Sounds like it's an Aprilia. Thanks for giving me reason to go ride one. Keep riding the bike. Took me 10 years or so to find all the great things about my '04 Tuono. 180K miles later and I still look forward to riding it. There are good dealers in my area as well. Dealer network is improving too.
Just got to test this today and I am in love! My first 2 bikes were cruisers (250 yamaha Dragstar & 750 Honda shadow), got to ride a 650 dakar so I fel in love with adevnture riding and bought a 2017-VStrom 650-XT... This bike reminded me of the position on the 650 Dakar and since I am looking for a new bike and BMW stoped producing the F800gs... I would like to buy this one. The thing is you worried me a little bit saying that you wouldn't take this around the world. Hope you will do a more in-depth review before I buy it. On Monday I will try the Tiger 900, since I am not that tall and the Tenere or Africa Twin are to tall for me I will skip them. Great channel, love your reviews! Keep it up!
I have now ridden both the Tenere 700 and the Tuareg 660. If I could only own one bike it would be the Tenere and I would spend the money upgrading the suspension and making the rear wheel tubeless. Owning multiple bikes I would take the Tuareg for bang for the buck and features. I still have a few other bikes to try before I buy.
I'm already seeing a lot of TH-cam videos featuring full exhaust that helps with removing the converter heat issue, crash bars, wind screens, luggage and more. I sat on this bike at Malcolm Smith's dealership yesterday and loved it. It has a nice sleek and tall aggressive stance and great overall looks. The Red model for me. It made the KTM 890 look low, slow and fat honestly. They had no Yamaha T7's on the floor or Honda CB500x which looks nice but it's too slow and basic for my taste. I had an Aprilia RSV4 so they know how to make a motor sound amazing. Which is important to most riders. Being a new machine I would opt for the extended warranty. My RSV4 had several odd warranty issues. I'm seeing that the engine case gasket can leak near the water pump. A small thing. I'm hoping to own one of these soon and do a full mod video series on it. Oh and thanks for the video, guys. Bummed I missed it.
Great job, looking forward to a deeper analysis and see how it ages. I am just not brave enough to get a brand new bike, at least 2 years of it being in the market. If and when the very expected medium trail Honda Transalp 700/750? doesn’t hit the bell in the meantime…
My first and only Aprilia was the 99 BMW F650 Funduro. I loved it and it took me all over the Smokey and Ozark Mountains, Into the Rockies on Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, Last Dollar Hwy, the Eastern TAT in the early 2000s, Parson Branch Rd, and I could go on and on. Never had an issue with reliability. That Tuareg looks like the sweat spot for adventure bikes today - if only there was a dealer closer than 280 miles away!
Yep! The T660 will slip right in between my R1200GSA and CRF250L Rally. Having owned an Aprilia, they always start with a solid chassis which gives you excellent road (and as your video showed - off-road) manners. Placing a deposit soon! Thanks for the review.
Agree with build quality on Aprilla . Felt more solid than Norden. Seat felt better than Norden for me. .more comfortable position. Norden canted me too forward and too much bend in knees in Norden. Overall I would have it over Norden. But then there's the Des X . ....

It is a fantastic motorcycle both on tarmac and more importantly in the dirt. Being short, I wish the bars were a little lower, but other than that, I think it is incredible. I hope you can get a long term test on one, or even better get yourself one!
I am super excited. I have never order a bike nor bought one brand new. My taureg will be here is two weeks. I can't not wait. I have went back and forth on what I was going to buy. I hope the longevity is there and the bike holds up well with good maintenance.
Great video and great test. I have tested the Aprillia Touareg in Barcelona, Spain, I fully agree with you, I loved it. I loved the way it looks, I loved the way it rides much better than the Tenere ...but it is an Aprillia. I do not think there is a quiestion mark about the lack of its reliability, it is simple a fact.. and it has always been. Not to mention the spare parts. Loving much more than a Tenere, I bought a Tenere.
Aprilia's reputation has to be reconsidered because the bike platform is relatively proven: the Tuono and RSV 660 have been around for 3 years now. Overall, since Aprilia joined the Piaggio group in 2004 there hasn't been a serious report about its reliability.
Smart guy! Looks and first impressions can cost you a lot… Reliability and lack of frustrations is what you get with the Tenere. I don’t own either but would most likely do the same 🍻🍻
I really like the looks of Tuareg and most of things on the paper. My demo experience on Tenere 700 was bust. But, one thing that I'm always comparing is compression ratio. Tuareg 13.5 vs Tenere 11.5. Lower compression translates to cheaper gas (although 11.5 is not that low) and less stress on the engine which translates to reliability and durability. Take in account that Yam 700 engine is considered by some as most reliable and durable engine in moto industry and then you have to decide if you want life less comfy with less frustration or comfy life with some frustration. I personally opt for first but, the other option is quite tempting sometimes. I may take a look at Tenere 900 if it comes about. Til then, I'll keep my Mule Super Ten.
Was thinking the same on compression and assuming it requires premium fuel. Had an '02 Mille R. (highest upgraded factory model at that time) It was a super solid machine and likely the nicest bike I'll ever own. The Taureg's price, features, and likely a bit lower seat height as well as less top heavy feel makes me consider from my T7. Then my more frugal and practical mind kicks in. Ian's comment on an around the world trip resonates with me. Not that I'm going RTW but I simply don't like the higher probability of hassles. Only keeping one street legal bike these days and it needs to be ready to go at all times.
You are correct, higher compression is higher strain and while the 660 engine seems to be reliable so far in the other existing models, it should be expected that the CP2 will outlast it. While the 660 does need premium fuel, Yamaha recommends premium for the T7 as well. What about the T7 demo was a bust?
@@matth7118 It was very windy day. I felt like I was riding sail even though we were not riding fast. The throttle felt jerky and I just didn't feel confident on it like I was on MT-10 and Tracer 900 which I rode prior to it and I was surprised how good they felt, especially MT-10. The gearing is obviously biased to off-road but with weird feel of being quite top heavy. Now, my Super Tenere is top heavy but, it feels great once it starts rolling. I really couldn't see it as great off road or on road bike. It felt in some way as overpowered and oversized XT250 which is a fun little bike. My off road skill are not great but, I managed some quite harsh settings where some experienced off roaders shook their heads when they saw me on XT. Plus tube tires on $12k bike on the road. I think it is overpriced for what it is. I really like its looks and that's about it.
Nice bike. I’m interested to see how they hold up over time. I usually buy my bikes used, so it may be a while(if ever) before I get to throw a leg over one of these. These will most likely be fairly scarce since Aprillia isn’t exactly a high volume manufacturer.
Well done reaching out to Aprilia and testing the Touareg 660. As regards aftermarket, Hepco has quite a few parts available and Givi is in process of bringing some to market. Cant wait to get your full view on this machine

I think t7 enthusiasts are in denial. This Tuareg surpasses the T7 on all counts, maybe except, arguably, for reliability. As for colour scheme, of what I see on video, I prefer the yellow version, even though I am bored with the yellow on my drz 400.
I don’t think anyone is in denial. Reliability is very important issue in the ADV segment. There are a lot of former KTM owners that rock the T7 and other Japanese bikes. Also, aftermarket support (another big issue for ADV riders) for the T7 is second to none. That being said I own a T7 and I genuinely adore this offering from Aprilia. Hopefully the Tuareg proves competitive in the reliability rankings with the Japanese offerings.
@@giovannidelgrande5732 , for me this bike answers all of issues with the T7. Tubeless tires, suspension, and cruise control. The first two can be corrected with $$$, but adding seamless cruise control not so easy.
Hilarious, What's the claimed power of this bike? 80HP? Aprilia made similar claims with the Shiver 750. Real power at the wheel was about 80% of claimed. 20% power loss thru a chain? Essentially the same as T7 comparing dyno to dyno not manufacturer claims.
Good reviews guys, I am planning my overland trip through central asia next summer and so far it's down to either T7 and/or the Tuareg. My main concern would be which of the two bikes has enough: 1) aftermarket accessories 2) service centres 3) availability and prices of parts. Appreciate your feedback :)
Yamaha will probably have better aftermarket and service. That was my worry as well to get one but seeing as there’s 5 dealers within an hour of me here in Arizona Im gonna go ahead with it

My only gripe is the looks. The T7, the 901, the Desert X… These are some of the best looking bikes around and the Aprilia doesn’t stack up IMO. The 890AdvR is ugly as hell but it is also considered the best in class (performance wise), so you got to either be the best performing or be good looking lol.
Beauty---eye sort of thing. Personally find the 901 as appealing looking as an afterbirth sandwich. Some of the newer KTM look ok (1090 1190) the old ones look like the 901......ghastly.
890 R has high fender like Dakar bikes, has lower fuel tank like Dakar bikes. What T7 has like... ? And there are no more beautiful bikes than Dakar bikes ;-)

I'm really interested in the suspension debate vs the Tenere 700. I've watched a few European comparisons and they all more or less agree that the suspension on the Tuareg is plusher, so I wonder if they stiffened it for the US market. Looking forward to the full review 🤙🤙
I watch a lot of European reviews as well and one thing I have noticed it how they use words compared to how we use them. We say plush meaning it’s soft but they may mean it as in it’s good and handles to bumps very well. Usually when they think suspension is too soft they will just say it feels under sprung. So it’s almost as if there is a little lost in translation and I take it with a grain of salt unless the context really supports how they intend the meaning of a word like plush. This of course is only my view point based on my ever so humble observations. ✌️
Thats quite the bike, its a great size 660 is a very good cc. Is this a premium brand like BMW? If you get one Ian, touch on the Aprillia history and where they are made. Looks to be really fast too. Love the style and color. Major adventure ride!
I laughed at the mention of the sound, thinking 'yeah, that's an Aprilia'. My first bike was an Aprilia, a great brand but thin dealer network and parts/service could be slow and painfully expensive. I hope for the brand this model does well and brings the company success.

Have no idea about that bike reliability however my old Aprilia Futura V2-1000ccm here in the EU turned 100.000 km or 60.000 miles no issue at all except rear wheel bearing. Sold It 6 years ago it is still driving. Have simmilar story with my friends Aprilia caponord, no issue as well.
Thanks Ian, I appreciate your honest reviews and you have me sold on this one. I just popped by my Aprilia dealer and put an on order on one. Not being able to find a T7 I think this will be the perfect one bike bridge between my 21 Moto Guzzi and my 07 DRZ400. I know that unicorns are extinct but this one really seems perfect for my usage (BDRs, etc.)? The MG was lovely but I hated the seat and it is about 80Lbs heavier and not near as dirt oriented. I'm looking forward to a full review if you ever get your hands on one. Cheers.

I was supposed to be at the Rawhyde ADV fest...but daughter's last year of high school stuff got in the way. I WILL be in Sturgis in July! If they could drop the price by $1500.00USD and quickly get these out to market while maintaining quality control...Would put T7 and 890, Norden out to pasture! Just seems like a no brainer for Aprilla to dominate and make a lot of monies. I wonder if this is a precursor for Aprilla to make a larger ADV bike.....? Next up....to see what the GasGas 700 is about....And will Yamaha make a T9...?
I'm looking to get a mid/lightweight adv for my second bike, and this is the first option i've seen that i would take over the cb500x. This looks like the best case option from all the reviews i've seen. Perfect touring power but light enough and unobtrusive enough to get you to and through anything with time.
I've had a 2019 CB500X for two years and 10K miles now. It's also an excellent choice, a terrific value (abt $7K new) that is capable both on/off pavement. The Tuareg would be about $5K more, but has better suspension, improved electronics/features, and more HP. You can't go wrong with either one.
@@stevelarson4487 post 2019 are the models I'm looking at the most, Have you done any upgrades like the RR kit to yours? The price of the cb is definitely a big plus for me, along with the low maintenance needs and complexity.
@@Rujani I added the Honda crash/light bar, added a skid plate and radiator guard, and some 50/50 tires (Michelin Anakee Wild) to have better capability for off-road.

Hopefully you can get one soon. I have always though that 650cc is the perfect size engine, plenty of power without the added weight that comes with bigger bikes. The ridge riding reminds me of taking lunch breaks and riding the Bookcliff area in western Colorado on my 650 V Strom, lots of fun on a large bike.

Imho the crap factory skid plates are all about keeping the advertised weight to a minimum.

Trading my BMW f850 GSA on the 660 this week. Coming off the 1200 GSA LC the 850 was a mistake. The 660 should make up for it.
This is the direction BMW should be taking with the 750/850. Smaller, lighter, better suspension.

They had the G 650 GS, but the kind of people with the money to get those (in general) are the kind of people that believes "more is ALWAYS better" and thats why we have 150 pound people riding 500+ pounds bikes, or 5000 pounds vehicles full of empty seats...

I had the f750 gs and now i own a f850gs adv. I m very happy with both bikes. I don t see why they should be lighter. For adv riding, go buy a Honda crf 300 and have fun. Everything else is just marketing.

If I had my choice, this would be my next bike. The only problem is the nearest Aprilia dealer to me is 450 miles and 7 hours away. The dealer network is the only thing stopping me.
Tenere 700 was designed/speced in Yamaha’s Italy center too. This class of bikes is huge in Italy.
Great takes on the 660, intriguing bike. Would love to see something under 400lbs and $10kusd that's decent out of the box like a crf300l rally with a cb500x engine, comfy seat, and decent suspension.

Great review. Not running from my T7 to this. Parts cost and reliability will hamper this bike. My friend bought an RS660 as soon as they hit dealers and has already sold it. It spent most of its life at the dealer with oil consumption and other various issues. In the end, they had to replace the entire engine and it was a several month wait. Time will tell if this bike is plagued by the same issues.
the fact that the problem has been assessed and solved on the RS660 should suggest that they won't do the same mistake on the Tuareg.

@@BlazinBlades , so then the buyer isn’t usually a novice motorcyclist, but a motorcyclist who usually has several bikes in the stable and is wanting to have the latest greatest. They are willing to take the risk because if it has to go to the shop they can still ride, and if it isn’t for them they just trade it at the end of the season. Those people look at buying and selling Motorcycles as paying for an experience, not unlike going on a vacation.
I rode it a couple times that weekend, and really enjoyed it. Strong enough on the pavement, I’m real capable in the sand and dirt gravel. Feels like a bike I could ride all day standing up.

Thanks for finally reviewing this bike. I was all set for the Norden, but the reliability off the bat is in question. I called a dealer for the Norden and the told me they had a technical service bulletin on the leaky radiator. I think the Aprilla Toureg might be the one. There are two dealers in the Denver/Co Springs area. Great review!

I'm looking at my next bike and was down to the Rally Pro, Norden or Desert X but this really interests me. Thanks for getting this video out there. My decision just got even harder.
Bought one two days ago. There was one minor "issue" I encountered during my test ride... maybe I am dork but I sometimes turned on the high beam when using the clutch. That trigger switch position is a little awkward. I found that sometimes I just happen to touch it when operating the clutch and boom jumps right into high beam on...
I chose the Tuareg over the Tenere because of the electronics and it is a bit lower in seat height while having better ground clearance and more suspension travel.
I didn't like the look of the Tuareg much when I watched videos and photos. In person however I came to actually like the looks. Still there is one design elements I think it could do without: The fake vents on the nose... like why is this even a thing?
Anyway should receive mine in June. Bought the indigo blue one, a tad more expensive but it makes it pop more and gives it more of a rally vibe, the tricolour is just a classic.

Keep riding the bike. Took me 10 years or so to find all the great things about my '04 Tuono. 180K miles later and I still look forward to riding it. There are good dealers in my area as well. Dealer network is improving too.

My first 2 bikes were cruisers (250 yamaha Dragstar & 750 Honda shadow), got to ride a 650 dakar so I fel in love with adevnture riding and bought a 2017-VStrom 650-XT...
This bike reminded me of the position on the 650 Dakar and since I am looking for a new bike and BMW stoped producing the F800gs... I would like to buy this one.
The thing is you worried me a little bit saying that you wouldn't take this around the world.
Hope you will do a more in-depth review before I buy it.
On Monday I will try the Tiger 900, since I am not that tall and the Tenere or Africa Twin are to tall for me I will skip them.

I have now ridden both the Tenere 700 and the Tuareg 660. If I could only own one bike it would be the Tenere and I would spend the money upgrading the suspension and making the rear wheel tubeless. Owning multiple bikes I would take the Tuareg for bang for the buck and features. I still have a few other bikes to try before I buy.
I think this is what we've all been asking for. It will be super popular and I just hope the dealers can keep them in stock.
I'm already seeing a lot of TH-cam videos featuring full exhaust that helps with removing the converter heat issue, crash bars, wind screens, luggage and more. I sat on this bike at Malcolm Smith's dealership yesterday and loved it. It has a nice sleek and tall aggressive stance and great overall looks. The Red model for me. It made the KTM 890 look low, slow and fat honestly. They had no Yamaha T7's on the floor or Honda CB500x which looks nice but it's too slow and basic for my taste. I had an Aprilia RSV4 so they know how to make a motor sound amazing. Which is important to most riders. Being a new machine I would opt for the extended warranty. My RSV4 had several odd warranty issues. I'm seeing that the engine case gasket can leak near the water pump. A small thing. I'm hoping to own one of these soon and do a full mod video series on it. Oh and thanks for the video, guys. Bummed I missed it.

My first and only Aprilia was the 99 BMW F650 Funduro. I loved it and it took me all over the Smokey and Ozark Mountains, Into the Rockies on Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, Last Dollar Hwy, the Eastern TAT in the early 2000s, Parson Branch Rd, and I could go on and on. Never had an issue with reliability. That Tuareg looks like the sweat spot for adventure bikes today - if only there was a dealer closer than 280 miles away!
Yep! The T660 will slip right in between my R1200GSA and CRF250L Rally. Having owned an Aprilia, they always start with a solid chassis which gives you excellent road (and as your video showed - off-road) manners. Placing a deposit soon! Thanks for the review.

Agree with build quality on Aprilla . Felt more solid than Norden. Seat felt better than Norden for me. .more comfortable position. Norden canted me too forward and too much bend in knees in Norden. Overall I would have it over Norden.

It is a fantastic motorcycle both on tarmac and more importantly in the dirt. Being short, I wish the bars were a little lower, but other than that, I think it is incredible. I hope you can get a long term test on one, or even better get yourself one!

I am super excited. I have never order a bike nor bought one brand new. My taureg will be here is two weeks. I can't not wait. I have went back and forth on what I was going to buy. I hope the longevity is there and the bike holds up well with good maintenance.
Great video and great test. I have tested the Aprillia Touareg in Barcelona, Spain, I fully agree with you, I loved it. I loved the way it looks, I loved the way it rides much better than the Tenere ...but it is an Aprillia. I do not think there is a quiestion mark about the lack of its reliability, it is simple a fact.. and it has always been. Not to mention the spare parts. Loving much more than a Tenere, I bought a Tenere.
Aprilia's reputation has to be reconsidered because the bike platform is relatively proven: the Tuono and RSV 660 have been around for 3 years now. Overall, since Aprilia joined the Piaggio group in 2004 there hasn't been a serious report about its reliability.

Having owned an early model Tuono, I’d say good call on going T-7. Oh, and I own a piaggio bv 350 scooter that has stranded me 2x
I really like the looks of Tuareg and most of things on the paper. My demo experience on Tenere 700 was bust. But, one thing that I'm always comparing is compression ratio. Tuareg 13.5 vs Tenere 11.5. Lower compression translates to cheaper gas (although 11.5 is not that low) and less stress on the engine which translates to reliability and durability. Take in account that Yam 700 engine is considered by some as most reliable and durable engine in moto industry and then you have to decide if you want life less comfy with less frustration or comfy life with some frustration. I personally opt for first but, the other option is quite tempting sometimes. I may take a look at Tenere 900 if it comes about. Til then, I'll keep my Mule Super Ten.
Was thinking the same on compression and assuming it requires premium fuel.
Had an '02 Mille R. (highest upgraded factory model at that time) It was a super solid machine and likely the nicest bike I'll ever own.
The Taureg's price, features, and likely a bit lower seat height as well as less top heavy feel makes me consider from my T7. Then my more frugal and practical mind kicks in.
Ian's comment on an around the world trip resonates with me. Not that I'm going RTW but I simply don't like the higher probability of hassles. Only keeping one street legal bike these days and it needs to be ready to go at all times.

You are correct, higher compression is higher strain and while the 660 engine seems to be reliable so far in the other existing models, it should be expected that the CP2 will outlast it. While the 660 does need premium fuel, Yamaha recommends premium for the T7 as well. What about the T7 demo was a bust?
@@matth7118 It was very windy day. I felt like I was riding sail even though we were not riding fast. The throttle felt jerky and I just didn't feel confident on it like I was on MT-10 and Tracer 900 which I rode prior to it and I was surprised how good they felt, especially MT-10. The gearing is obviously biased to off-road but with weird feel of being quite top heavy. Now, my Super Tenere is top heavy but, it feels great once it starts rolling. I really couldn't see it as great off road or on road bike. It felt in some way as overpowered and oversized XT250 which is a fun little bike. My off road skill are not great but, I managed some quite harsh settings where some experienced off roaders shook their heads when they saw me on XT. Plus tube tires on $12k bike on the road. I think it is overpriced for what it is. I really like its looks and that's about it.
Nice bike. I’m interested to see how they hold up over time. I usually buy my bikes used, so it may be a while(if ever) before I get to throw a leg over one of these. These will most likely be fairly scarce since Aprillia isn’t exactly a high volume manufacturer.

I think t7 enthusiasts are in denial. This Tuareg surpasses the T7 on all counts, maybe except, arguably, for reliability. As for colour scheme, of what I see on video, I prefer the yellow version, even though I am bored with the yellow on my drz 400.
I don’t think anyone is in denial. Reliability is very important issue in the ADV segment. There are a lot of former KTM owners that rock the T7 and other Japanese bikes. Also, aftermarket support (another big issue for ADV riders) for the T7 is second to none. That being said I own a T7 and I genuinely adore this offering from Aprilia. Hopefully the Tuareg proves competitive in the reliability rankings with the Japanese offerings.
@@giovannidelgrande5732 , for me this bike answers all of issues with the T7. Tubeless tires, suspension, and cruise control. The first two can be corrected with $$$, but adding seamless cruise control not so easy.

Hilarious, What's the claimed power of this bike? 80HP? Aprilia made similar claims with the Shiver 750. Real power at the wheel was about 80% of claimed. 20% power loss thru a chain? Nahh, claims was made on design spec not real testing for ad purposes.

This bike puts about 60ish hp to the wheel (56-66) corrected sea level. Essentially the same as T7 comparing dyno to dyno not manufacturer claims.
I'm not an RTW rider. I'll take the Aprilia any day for casual mid-range ADV touring.
Good reviews guys, I am planning my overland trip through central asia next summer and so far it's down to either T7 and/or the Tuareg. My main concern would be which of the two bikes has enough: 1) aftermarket accessories 2) service centres 3) availability and prices of parts. Appreciate your feedback :)
Yamaha will probably have better aftermarket and service. That was my worry as well to get one but seeing as there’s 5 dealers within an hour of me here in Arizona Im gonna go ahead with it

My only gripe is the looks. The T7, the 901, the Desert X… These are some of the best looking bikes around and the Aprilia doesn’t stack up IMO. The 890AdvR is ugly as hell but it is also considered the best in class (performance wise), so you got to either be the best performing or be good looking lol.
Beauty---eye sort of thing. Personally find the 901 as appealing looking as an afterbirth sandwich. Some of the newer KTM look ok (1090 1190) the old ones look like the 901......ghastly.
890 R has high fender like Dakar bikes, has lower fuel tank like Dakar bikes. What T7 has like... ? And there are no more beautiful bikes than Dakar bikes ;-)

I'm really interested in the suspension debate vs the Tenere 700. I've watched a few European comparisons and they all more or less agree that the suspension on the Tuareg is plusher, so I wonder if they stiffened it for the US market. Looking forward to the full review 🤙🤙
I watch a lot of European reviews as well and one thing I have noticed it how they use words compared to how we use them. We say plush meaning it’s soft but they may mean it as in it’s good and handles to bumps very well. Usually when they think suspension is too soft they will just say it feels under sprung.
So it’s almost as if there is a little lost in translation and I take it with a grain of salt unless the context really supports how they intend the meaning of a word like plush.
This of course is only my view point based on my ever so humble observations. ✌️

Thats quite the bike, its a great size 660 is a very good cc. Is this a premium brand like BMW? If you get one Ian, touch on the Aprillia history and where they are made. Looks to be really fast too. Love the style and color. Major adventure ride!
I laughed at the mention of the sound, thinking 'yeah, that's an Aprilia'. My first bike was an Aprilia, a great brand but thin dealer network and parts/service could be slow and painfully expensive. I hope for the brand this model does well and brings the company success.

Have no idea about that bike reliability however my old Aprilia Futura V2-1000ccm here in the EU turned 100.000 km or 60.000 miles no issue at all except rear wheel bearing. Sold It 6 years ago it is still driving. Have simmilar story with my friends Aprilia caponord, no issue as well.

Not being able to find a T7 I think this will be the perfect one bike bridge between my 21 Moto Guzzi and my 07 DRZ400. I know that unicorns are extinct but this one really seems perfect for my usage (BDRs, etc.)? The MG was lovely but I hated the seat and it is about 80Lbs heavier and not near as dirt oriented. I'm looking forward to a full review if you ever get your hands on one. Cheers.

I was supposed to be at the Rawhyde ADV fest...but daughter's last year of high school stuff got in the way. I WILL be in Sturgis in July! If they could drop the price by $1500.00USD and quickly get these out to market while maintaining quality control...Would put T7 and 890, Norden out to pasture! Just seems like a no brainer for Aprilla to dominate and make a lot of monies. I wonder if this is a precursor for Aprilla to make a larger ADV bike.....? Next up....to see what the GasGas 700 is about....And will Yamaha make a T9...?
I'm looking to get a mid/lightweight adv for my second bike, and this is the first option i've seen that i would take over the cb500x. This looks like the best case option from all the reviews i've seen. Perfect touring power but light enough and unobtrusive enough to get you to and through anything with time.
I've had a 2019 CB500X for two years and 10K miles now. It's also an excellent choice, a terrific value (abt $7K new) that is capable both on/off pavement. The Tuareg would be about $5K more, but has better suspension, improved electronics/features, and more HP. You can't go wrong with either one.
@@stevelarson4487 post 2019 are the models I'm looking at the most, Have you done any upgrades like the RR kit to yours? The price of the cb is definitely a big plus for me, along with the low maintenance needs and complexity.
@@Rujani I added the Honda crash/light bar, added a skid plate and radiator guard, and some 50/50 tires (Michelin Anakee Wild) to have better capability for off-road.
The intake port is throaty like a cold air intake on a car. Love it.

Hopefully you can get one soon. I have always though that 650cc is the perfect size engine, plenty of power without the added weight that comes with bigger bikes. The ridge riding reminds me of taking lunch breaks and riding the Bookcliff area in western Colorado on my 650 V Strom, lots of fun on a large bike.
