    Just my opinion...I noticed you said you're waiting for Yamaha to update the Tenere with a better electrics. Personally, I hope they don't. I probably sound like an old man, i'm not against electrics at all. if Aprillia want to fit them, go ahead. But I still want the option of a bike to not have them. It was such a breath of fresh air when Yamaha brought out such a simple bike. Only ABS. We don't all want a dash which connects with our phone. Or rider modes. I just want a bike. Plus less electrics like that make it easier to modify for rallys etc. I'd hate to think of swapping the dash on a Aprillia. I hope yamaha sticks by there guns and keeps it simple. Or there wont be any simple ones left.

    Many miss the point of the Yamaha, it wasn't made without all the gizmo's because it was for the "inexperienced" .. far from it, it was made that way to be a true, no hassle adventure bike, less to go wrong. The CEO of Yamaha Europe said this himself when interviewed about the bike a while back. You know the Yamaha will be and is proving to be bulletproof, the Aprilia on the other hand, well we've yet to see! Having owned Aprilias in the past, while not particularly problematic, waiting for parts from Italy has been a pain if you catch them at the wrong time ( summer shut down for a month ) the new World Raid tenere is a bigger step forward, big tank, KYB forks and fully adjustable shock, ohlins damper. Check out Pol Torres and what he's done with the Yamaha, and also they are racing the new world raid version in the rallies .. 👊

Is more difficult to shorter raiders the high center mass and seat position of the T7. Two things: 1. how Aprilia will wear out. will it be resistant to falls, mud, water, dust. what it will look like after one or two years 2. You can buy a lot of gadgets for Tenere, it has a lot of user support

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Indeed. Sadly Italian bikes are not known for their reliability, and the 13.5:1 compression ratio (also the reason for the higher power output) is much higher than the modest 11.5:1 of the T7. As a comparison to how ridiculously high that CR is, even a racebike engine such as the R1M has a compression ratio of 13.0:1.
      I am not saying you cannot make a reliable high compression rate engine, but it is much more difficult, and for similar designs a lower compression ratio is always more reliable with less wear and stress. Generally compression ratios are a good indicator of engine reliability.

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@TwoWheeledBooBear I am sure it is a good machine. But until we have statistics on reliability I just dont trust it in that respect. From the factual data we do have, we know that bikes from european make, especially italian, are returned more often for 'serious issues'. For the "Adventure" part in ADV I do think reliability is an extremely important aspect, and it is always overlooked by reviewers, as it is extremely hard (if not impossible) to properly test. But we can use indicators in the design and previous manufacturer performance to judge what it will likely be.
      Never mind the problem Phillip brought up. Higher compression engines are more efficient, but this comes at the cost of reliability but also how picky the engine is with fuel (you NEED a higher octane rating). Of course not an issue if you only use it for commuting to work and back, but if you travel further abroad or live in a non-first world country it is definitely something to take into account. I.e. this is important for a proper adventure motorcycle.
      By the way, I wouldn't call the 660 engine a 'proven platform'. The first introduction of the 660 was in the RS660 in 2020... That is not even 2 years old. Never mind that they have only been used in road oriented bikes.
      A 'proven platform' would for example be the AT, of which the engine is relatively unchanged since 2015. It by the way too has a significantly lower compression rate, just 9-10:1.
      Or a more relevant example is the CP2 engine from yamaha. It was introduced in 2014, meaning that engine has been in multiple bikes (including adventure) for almost 8 years now.

    Strange.. I tested both bikes and found the t7 not to be ‘a gentleman’, at all! The t7’s clutch felt like it had no friction zone and just wanted to wheelie, even in “city-mode”. I do like the t7’s no nonsense dash. But it vibrated a lot! To me the tuareg ticks all the boxes for my needs: larger tank, less fuel consumption, smaller displacement, more power, lower (super cushy) seat, same clearance, standard cruise control, rider modes, larger windshield,… personally I felt like the t7 was above my league. Meh,… just test it out for yourselve

    Very nice comparison! One of the first on those bikes too! It would be more appropriate to compare the normal tenere 700 version which is the real comparable bike as price and specs go. Only the Akra exhaust is around 1000 euro's on the tenere...together with the higher seat and bashplate etc the price goes up. For the suspension of the T7 to be good it just needs to be adjusted by a specialist on your weight and needs. It is 100% adjustable, for most riders that is the way to go. Then if you are heavier a heavier spring at the back would also be enough. There is the trend to switch the suspensions for better performing ones, but in fact 95% of the riders who bought or would buy this machine really don't need this expense and would not make real use of it.

    Very good comparison! Aprilia’s ney-sayers always say: Yamaha is more reliable. Ok. Maybe. How do you know? The 660 platform is already proven. Aprilia make very reliable machines too. It is redicolous that the T700 rally is more expensive, this is what I call theft. You can buy - maybe (never proven) - less reliable bike which has better suspension, bigger tank, same weight, stronger motor, much better electronics, TFT, tubless tires etc. for less money. I think there is no quastion, I would surly buy the Aprilia. I have a message for japanese manufacturer: reliability is only one thing. It doesn’t worth ALONE as much money as a more complete package. (The base model T7 doesnt have LED indicators? It s a joke.)

      Just fyi Aprilia already has a recall on the 660 engine for faulty connecting rods requiring an engine replacement…
      The importance of reliability is subjective for sure but if you have several mechanical contraptions to maintain you’ll most likely find that low maintenance cost/hassle is pretty high on the priority list and that’s not even considering being stranded in the middle of nowhere because of a mechanical failure;) Cheers!

And every test for people considering going on overland long trips should compare availability of parts, repairability, maintenance intervals and number of dealerships internationally, as well as octane rating of fuel needed (regular or premium/super) since many developing countries often do not have higher octane fuel easily available.

The Tuareg is a much better bike for a beginner, contrary to what these reviewers said. You can "Turn down" the Tuareg with the electronics whereas the Tenere is a very much more "In your face!" in terms of low down power delivery. The Tenere is a much "Better" thing in terms of pure mechanical ability off road, whereas the Tuareg is MUCH better on tarmac road bike for ease of riding for the less experienced rider. If I was a better rider, I'd go for the Tenere every day of the week and twice on Sundays. All this said in my completely unprofessional and inexperienced opinion. • @gialto1
    @gialto1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I have watched reviews in 3 different languages, this is by far the most misleading one! I have ridden both bikes on open roads and urban environments for a couple of hours each. The Tuareg doesn't fit tall riders because of the rad air conveyors and the short distance between seat and pegs. And the handlebar, too. It is more noob friend because of the lower seat, soporific engine response at low RPM and lower centre of gravity. The T700 is hugely overpriced, its engine is much better at low and medium RPM, the gear box is smooth as silk but cannot rev up like the Aprilia short stroke/high RPM one which is exciting at full throttle. Both bikes have got weak springs, the Aprilia front fork wobbles. Their suspensions feel cheap compared to the WPs on my smcr 690. I rode an Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 during 10 years and didn't have a single problem with the engine. The electronic was a nightmare, though. I am 181cm x 105Kg and ride prevalently in urban environments so I will buy the Yamaha but for someone smaller, riding often on open roads I think the Tuareg is a better choice
