    Regular mres can be hit or miss but the freeze dry ones are usually pretty good. And Tyler, lol, cold weather mres are made to be eaten HOT. Solders are always going to have a way to boil water ready at hand. Plus all those hot beverages would be amazing if you've been outside in winter for a week

    • @shaneh7519
      @shaneh7519 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excuse my ignorant question.
      1. Regular mres have a warming packet that heats the food, so both “regular” and cold weather mres are giving you warm food, no?
      2. How do soldiers in the field have a way to heat water? Don’t they typically not start fires so the smoke and light won’t give away positions? Isn’t the point of the warming packet in regular mres to be a solution to that?

    • @mikeybrown8258
      @mikeybrown8258 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      7 years in the Army and I was allowed to light a fire exactly ONE time in the field. It wasn’t for warmth, it was to try to kill the mice that were eating our food at night. If you can’t heat whatever it is that you want heated in your arm pits, in your underwear, or with the MRE heater, it’s not going to get warm.

      @@shaneh7519 regular mres are made so they can be eaten warm or cold and there’s more than one way to heat water than a fire soldiers get creative an upside down fire is a good example of that

      @cubpak89 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah no not always a way to heat up an mre fires aren't really allowed cause it gives positions away when down range. Sometimes we just gotta eat em cold and even with a heater in the package it don't always heat em up

    Being in the Army and stationed in Alaska, I’ve eaten my fair share of these. After a few days in the field and those are all you have to eat when it’s -30 outside….they are amazing. But to just eat for fun…not so great. Also the winter and normal MREs are different because the winter ones have more calories due to your body burns more calories in the cold.

As for the hot water, Cold Weather ones do NOT come with a heater pack, If you are in a Situation where you are being issued these you will also be issued a Small Camping stove for your Fireteam (about 4 people) which you heat the water on,... Dude cold weather mres knock the regular ones out of the water by far. They have a chicken and rice one that's something I'd actually eat LOL. But the reason for the separate ones for cold vs hot, is that the pouches in the regular ones can freeze, expand, and pop, on top of it being an issue if you want food but it's frozen lol

    A well made coffee is the best thing ever. If you don't really care for coffee, instant coffee is definitely not gonna do it for you. Regular drip machine won't be great either. Needs to be espresso, french press, or pour over.
    I do keep some instant coffee for chocolate milkshakes or hot cocoa though. But it's not good by itself, only for emergencies.

  • @joseleusch386

    Cold weather rations typically have more food and hive a higher calorie intake because you burn more in the cold weather. I sad ally you’ll have mini stoves as well to heat up the water to cook those since it’s mainly freeze dried food. I enjoyed them when I did cold weather training in the Marines

    Like what most people were saying the cold weather MREs are made with higher calories because in cold weather you are burning more. The cold weather MREs do not come with the heater pouch but they can come with tablets that heat water up. I never had a cold weather MRE but I had my fair share of MRE when I was in. MRE are more for you to get the calories you need not for taste. That's why people just eat them really fast just to put something in you stomach.

    Taste is secondary to useable fuel for your body and shelf life. I'm a 10yr vet eaten plenty of MREs. Trust me I didn't care and everything tasted good in that situation. Wish people would consider the alternative (bugs, weeds, plants maybe a rat) rather then judge an MRE on taste. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A GORMET MEAL or even eaten outside a combat/survival/desperate situations lol.
