David, I think the electric mules job is to keep the big boats in middle of the lock, the do not pull the big ships thru. The big boats use their own power to move forward. At least this was true for the cruse ship I was on as it went thru the locks.
I've watched this episode 3 times!! And I've watched others do it too. So fascinating and exciting. The engineering, teamwork and scenery. Just so awesome!!
Thanks for all of your hard work in sharing this Amazing Experience with us. I really enjoyed watching. So excited for you all for the experiences & the memories you are making. Still miss you around the Marina but it seems you are still with us.
Yeah, well if we don't keep going out and spending time having adventures, soon enough we won't have any footage left to publish! :) Don't worry, I'm already working on our Passage to the Galapagos video.
Good drone footage. I can remember trying to find you on the cameras going through the locks and totally not finding you... for hours!! At least I get to see it now! Woo HOO!
Haha! Yeah you weren't the only one who had trouble finding us on the cameras. Pretty sure some of our friends and family thought the catamaran that went through right before was actually us!
Yeah, it was really cool to see the Canal from above. At least, it was once I was looking at the footage later and not so nervous about crashing the drone in the Canal!
Simply stunning. Definitely one of the best, to be seem by anyone trans versing the Panama Canal. I so look forward to your next vlog. Would not be the same without you's. Stay safe as always. Canada.
+Dave Gibson We had a great time in Panama City! We heard good things about Bocas Del Toro but it seems like there are always more places to visit than we have time for. Maybe the next time around... :)
I have to say guys you have done a very good job on this one. great job on making the Pacific now. I cant wait till you get to the med. I have a beer in the fridge for you. looks like we will be in Turkey or Venice when you get here. keep improving. and more Amy commentary even though David is getting better as well. sorry but in your early vids you sound so depressed. your probably just concentrating on doing a good job. but Amy seems to have a Devil may care attitude that comes off great. Cheers and enjoy the great south pacific. i will have to check in on your blog. i think your in Fiji?
Haha, yeah you're right about the earlier videos. I'm glad to hear I'm getting better, but the plan is still to have Amy do some more commentary. We're actually in Bora Bora at the moment, though our time in French Polynesia is just about up so we'll be heading out towards Niue soon.
+cato torsvik Sure! We paid about $1,200, which included all transit fees + our agent's fees. The guys who joined us on the boat are actually called advisors (for us smaller boats) and they are included as part of the transit fee.
Could you share the brand and model of the drone (very cool!)? I'm guessing the camera is a GoPro Hero 4 Back. We were thinking about a Splash Drone but $1600 is a lot of cash:)
We have a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. I believe the sensor for the camera is the same one found in the GoPro Hero 4, but the drone doesn't actually use a GoPro. The Splash Drones are nice, and you could get it back if it landed in the water, but I liked the video quality/usability of the Phantom better. However, since it isn't waterproof, I am just super cautious about flying in good conditions and making sure I have enough battery life to get back to the boat!
Great video guys. Ahhhhh, patience the elusive lady ..... captured by Captain Dave !! 😊
Very nice aerien image, thank
great update people, now onto pacific things! Cheers, Bryan
+formerly 987946216430 Thanks! Lots of great things in the Pacific to come!

Awesome canal passing footage! The addition of the drone is great, keep up the good work guys!
Glad you liked it! We've got some really cool footage from our Pacific Crossing and time in French Polynesia coming up!
This is the best video of passing through the canal that I have seen. Beautiful mixing of on board and drone footage!
Wow, that's quite a compliment, thank you! I was thrilled when we got permission to fly the drone and am so happy with how the footage came out!
that looks lots off fun
It was! We had a great time!
Excellent video, thank you.
Always happy to oblige. Thanks for watching!
Amazing drone footage there

Thanks Lisa! We miss you guys too, A LOT, but it means the world to us that you still keep up with what we're doing. :)

+a langwell Thank you for the compliment! It was a good team effort to capture all the footage!

Oh Jedi of canal drone- epic footage!!! You guys do it John Hammond style, spare no expense- or so it seems. Thank you for the videos!!!
Comparing me to a Jedi may be the best compliment I've ever received. Now where did I put my light saber???
I've seen many SV passing through the canal on TH-cam, I think this the best one yet.
Thank you! That is high praise indeed! :)
Awesome videos as always. Now we have to wait again for the next one :(

Well thank you Canada! ;)
You should have went a little North to Bocas Del Toro. Great place lots to do. Hope you enjoyed Panama City.

Well done guys, I like your videos, unlike some who overdo music and editing.
Thanks! It can be a bit tricky to find the right balance.

Great video. Loved the drone pics. Can you say something about the fee for the passage and if the pilot comes extra?!
+cato torsvik Sure! We paid about $1,200, which included all transit fees + our agent's fees. The guys who joined us on the boat are actually called advisors (for us smaller boats) and they are included as part of the transit fee.
Did you mention somewhere I haven't seen about the overall cost of the transit?
+South Jersey I mentioned it in a comment on our Preparations in Panama video, but we paid about $1,200, which included all transit fees + our agent.

What did it cost to transit the canal?
We paid about $1,200, which included all transit fees + our agent's fees.
How much does it cost to pass through the Canal if you have say a 41ft sailboat ?
The transit cost is the same for any sailboat under 50ft. We paid about $1,200, which included all transit fees + our agent's fees.
Out Chasing Stars Thanks Fair Winds !
