Hi Paul and Sheryl. I enjoyed watching your transit of the Panama Canal and the history. (we have seen programs before on the building of the canal and the toll on human lives malaria took + how they solved the malaria issue). It reminds me of our transit of the Welland canal with our sailboat, which we enjoyed very much. Holly and I transited the Panama canal on our 25th wedding anniversary aboard a cruise ship in 1998, which required no work on our part, but was quite enjoyable. All the best and thank you for making these great videos.

So appreciate both the info and the experience. I had no idea because most footage through the canal are just time-lapse of big ships without a sense of scale and human impact.

Thank you so much Paul and Sheryl, for having us on board of your boat. As a former seaman in the German merchant navy I came through the canal in 1973. We went to Punta Arenas in Costa Rica to load brown sugar. As it was the first time for me I was just as excited as you were. Thank you for your wonderful videos and your way of storytelling

Thoroughly enjoyed all 3 parts of your going through the PC. Very informative, the best on YT. We were surprised with all your sailing that this was the first time you went through the canal. My husband has been through 7 times and I have been once from the Pacific to the Atlantic side. We look forward to enjoying more of your videos. Hope you are safe and well

I like the badass music selection at 12:25. Appropriate for the Pacific side of the locks, sounds very west coast.

The canal is just an amazing engineering marvel. IMO! Just blows my mind.
Loved the series of the lock. Thanks for sharing your videos with us,

P.S. I'll just stay in freshwater on our lakes in Missouri... lol...

Yes, as one of the greatest engineering feats of the world, the history is fascinating. I hope you guys got to visit the Maritime Museum in Casco Viejo. Also, there’s a very great museum of the Panama Canal at the Miraflores Locks, along with a restaurant and its observation deck. The fish market near Casco Viejo is cool and inexpensive. Be well! Cheers 🍻

I'm confused. I thought you were going to the Pacific, but all your maps show you going south east, as if you are heading for the Caribbean. ? ? ? I thought the maps were simply oriented with east toward the top. But I checked, and there really seems to be a mistake here. Scott W

Check on a map and you will see that the crossing is SE due to the shape of Panama.

    • @scyz2807

@@johnharrison2741 I just checked again on Google Earth and I was mistaken! I must not have zoomed out. : - ( If you're going from the Pacific to the Atlantic you actually head NNW! Which clearly means that going the opposite way you'd be heading SSE. I'm soooooo embarrassed! Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

It just a money making excersize for the government. Always wondered if it would be cheaper to hire a truck to transport it across the country instead?
