    Hey Susan, Many years ago I did a Charcoal painting on some plywood of a woodworkers vice. I only prepped with normal white gesso. I did not even need to fix the drawing and years later it still looks good and industrial. I take it along (unframed) to workshops and demos and it gets to look better with the bumps and knocks it gets..

    Love the painting. So dreamy. Calming palette.

    This painting is so beautiful. Framing a pastel painting gets very expensive, especially if using museum glass. With it, there is a clear, no barrier look, but the price is very high. It would be great to find something that doesn’t change/darken the pastel, and seal it so we wouldn’t need glass. Sigh.
    I love you work. ❤️

      I totally agree! And museum glass is my favorite... but soooo expensive. I dream of being able to hang pastel pieces like acrylic paintings with no glass. I'm with you..... sigh. Thanks so much for your comment!

      have you tried Sennelier Latour Spray Fixative for Pastels - it is supposed to be a sealer for pastels.

      I know artists who have used Latour. It takes several light sprays and does slightly darken some colors. It can’t be used without glass because it will rub off when touched. It’s stable under a mat with glass to protect it.
      Thank you for taking the time to try to help. I appreciate your doing this.

      I am wondering if you can use the Colourfix Primer Australian Grey on an actual canvas and do a pastel painting on the canvas? I may give it a go since my sister gave me a canvas.

    Your painting is gorgeous. I tried a very similar picture in watercolor, was dissatified, and added pastel on top to bring the flowers forward. It was better. But any tutorial is a learning occasion that I truly appreciate.

    Hey Susan
    I’m really enjoying your videos so much. I’m in the homestretch of getting my supplies to start with pastels. I don’t think Iwould have ever attempted this medium without your videos.
    I’m only able to work in my den and I have hardwood floors. I wanted to know if these pastels are easy to clean when they get on the floor. I’m not sure how protected they should be before I get started.
    I’m so excited to get started and I thank you so very much for all that you do to help everyone on their art journey.
    I hope you know you are a blessing to many people.

      I’m so excited for you, Susan and I loved your message. Also, I have vinyl flooring and I’ve never had any problem with the pastel dust. I don’t recommend sweeping to clean up, but rather vacuum and mop.

    Beautiful Susan! I just need to point out, I think the term you wanted was "atmospheric perspective" (the bluing of distance) rather than aerial perspective ( which is looking down from above).

    • @monetcafe

      Thanks Anita… And you’re exactly right. My poor brain ….atmospheric perspective is the correct term. I’m so grateful for Artist like you who take the time to point these things out.

    This is beautiful. Sort of dreamy and the texture adds to that. I follow another artist named Joel Pilcher and he does a lot of work in charcoal pieces. He at different points sprays acetone on his charcoal pieces to get certain effects sort of like pastel artists use fixative. I wonder how that would work on pastels but I liked the effect of the spectrafix and it is certainly safer to be around. I wouldn’t know how to frame that a pastel on wood but it is a gorgeous painting. Thanks for sharing

    I just got some Stabilo CarbOthello soft pastel pencils. I think I will try this spray. Jason Morgan recommends a fixative made by Claire Fontaine. He does some really great videos on this subject. I think that very fine mister is key. And holding your paper to shield what you don’t want sprayed, a few inches up while spraying so you don’t get a “hard line” like you demonstrated is a great idea. I’ve been prepping my Bible pages with Dina Wakely clear gesso. It’s one of the only ones I’ve found that’s truly transparent, and feels chalky for talking on pastels. If any Bible journalers know of a good spray for Bibles, please let me know. And, I was curious Susan if you ever Bible/art journal? Lovely painting once again. 🙏🏻👍🍂

      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that’s some great information Mendy. And I love the idea about prepping the Bible pages! Great idea. And I don’t really do any art journaling in my Bible… But I do write all over it! Many of my pages are worn out, and I’ve had to tape them back in. Ha ha ha. But you know what they say, “Bible, that’s falling apart is usually owned by a person who is not!” I sure hope that’s true.

    I mainly have painted with soft pastels on pastelmat and frame them in clear acrylic frames, where the painting is in direct contact with the frame. (Mammoth-Acrylic-Magnetic-Contemporary-Frameless on amazon). So, if I were to paint on cradled wood, I'd finish the edges, then do my painting and then look into a sheet of clear plexiglass that I could put directly on top of my painting. I'm not sure how I'd keep the plexiglass attached though, I'd have to think about that more.

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Debbie! I was thinking about Plexiglass. And like you said I'd have to come up with a way to attach it. I have a husband who is engineering minded so I'll have to pick his brain. I'm so thankful for your input!!! Much appreciated!

      It's about $20 for a container this size. Mine was a little dried up because I had. not used it in awhile. It spreads more thinly and evenly when new. ;)

    Morning Romance indeed...!
    Question: was that you playing the guitar, or a young man named Josh Snodgrass..? I love drop D tuning.
    Nothing but the blood of Jesus..!
    You- know, many people; including Christians does not know that Jesus was the last man Adam, (alpha and Omega. The beginning and end..)
    In Genesis 11, All language was changed, except for the Hebrew, the language never changed. It's the language that Adam spoke.
    Jesus only claimed to be the son of man, (Adam)
    In the book of Luke 3:23 you'll see it recorded as Jesus the son of. Then it continues to David, Abraham, to Noah, then to Adam, the son of... You guest it..! "The Son Of God."
    🎸🎼🎶🎵🎶 Nothing but the blood of Jesus..!
    Amen..! 💜

      Totally agree with you friend!! I love the genealogies in the Bible. I also agree that Hebrew was the original language. the Bible is so fascinating! and that wasn’t me playing the guitar, but I sure do love that song by Josh Snodgrass.
