It’s amazing how a car that received endless praise in 2016, still garners that same compliments 9 years later with just an update good job Volvo . 3 Xc90s and all these years later keep it up
Consumers: "We'd like more buttons, please. Trying to do everything in the screen while driving is distracting." Volvo: "Best we can do is this new criss-cross grill."
It's a testament to good design when a car that was originally introduced in 2016 still looks fresher and better than competitors in 2025 with some tweaks. I have a 2019 V90 T6 Cross Country and have been thinking about upgrading to an XC90... this update makes it a lot more tempting! To those that are scared of Volvo's perceived reliability: I've never had any issues with my car, just regular maintenance at the Volvo dealer. Will definitely be a repeat buyer.
I own a 2021 V90 T8 and am also tempted, also because I have the older electric motor with less power and range. I can vouch for reliability. Not a single issue in three years, no rattles, the B&W sound system is the best I’ve heard (and I’m an audiophile)… I like it better than the Burmester system I heard in a Porsche Panamera.
About this 2025, Car and Driver says “We'd be quick to dismiss this mild overhaul as too little, too late if the XC90 weren't so good to begin with. We still prefer it over many newer competitors.”
Any particular reason you're considering switching from V90 to XC90? I have an XC90 Inscription, and I'm thinking about going to a V90CC when it's time. 😊
@ I like the higher seating position and the extra storage. When I bought my V90 I didn’t have the budget, but next year I might. I also feel that the B&W sound system’s acoustical performance benefits from the larger space.
Finally great to see your review of our pride in Sweden! And nice to see you driving in our beautiful streets of Malmö!😊 Thank you for very valuable information about the most important parts of the XC90 facelift. You guys are best! 👏🏻
Great video guys, always appreciate your take. My 2019 XC90 T6 Inscription is still perfect for us, but when its time, I'll be taking a hard look at a T8. 🇸🇪 💛 ✨️ ✨️ ✨️
thanks for sharing, finally you got a chance to drive the new version, it looks gorgeous. but why it is temporary design? will it change it soon? did they tell you why it always takes so long to upgrade new design compared to the rivals?
My 1998 V70 has “mauve.” It’s the exact color you see at 13:59, but likely has a different name. But in other parts of the video, perhaps better lighting, it appears to be the “blonde” interior like my 2023.
Andrea/Zack, how does this car compare to the Mazda CX90/70 PHEV/MHEV? For power, ride, handling, interior, NVH? Is it fair to say it's a step up in luxury and priced to match?
T8 PHEV is a no brainer, more refined driving in EV mode, and saves lots $$$ in gas. I drive a 2022 T8, and only refuels twice a year, saves thousands in gas, and still more resale value than B5.
@@calebwany8422 this kind of efficiency is doable for the average driver with many PHEVs. That average driver makes 2.44 trips a day of 12.3 miles each (AAA Foundation 2022 Driving Survey). The gas stays in the tank for the longer drives.
@@redwhite_040 why is that? If you don't have access to public charging when you have to travel out of town? What about in case of emergency? It's like saying just because you rarely get sick you don't need access to healthcare.
The T8 looks like fun and is great for commuting but the B6 is far more practical and it’s no slouch in performance either. We’re planning a family trip from Houston to Grand Teton to Yellowstone to Mt. Rushmore and home next summer. Give me a car that you can fill up during a pee stop and has a spare tire. And fuel prices will be much lower by then.
It looks like you guys drove around my hometown, Malmö, mostly in the southern part. It seems like you were in Skanör/Falsterbo and maybe in Copenhagen and Tårnby, DK. Bilia Volvo car dealership resides in (Jägersro) Malmö, Sweden. 🙃
Volvo doesn't offer Android Auto in conjunction with its Android-based operating system because the functions of Android Auto are already built into the car. Volvo's operating system has a user interface that's similar to Android Auto, and you can still download apps from Google Play. You can also pair your phone with Bluetooth for phone calls.
I wouldn't use this as an example of a reliable simple hybrid. Just look at the Toyota examples for that. No idea why Volvo would use a turbo, supercharger and hybrid system all combined. Seems overly complex and will likely be a money pit after 5 years. Toyota's system is designed for efficiency and great fuel economy. This Volvo is just trying to grab the hybrid name so customers think they are saving the planet when in reality, this doesn't really get that much better fuel economy than other non-hybrid comparable vehicles.
How is the reliability of the XC90? If you were to buy this vs a Range Rover Sport, which would you chose. Considering reliability, luxury, refinement, drivetrain etc.
I'm a Volvo xc90 fan, wish we got v6 in the US. Regarding the refresh, I like the previous front end it has a more chiseled look, this new front end seems more homogenized as it now looks more like everyone else... seems like Volvo is following not leading on design with this refresh... on that note i wish they also didn't affix what looks like an iPad onto the dash, it is not well integrated...
As a Chevrolet Volt Ⅱ owner, I'm looking for a Volt-equivalent SUV, which GM shockingly doesn't make yet, so I'm surprised to consider Volvo for the first time.
I decided to buy my brand new 2017 XC90 after watching your initial review back then. Now, I'm in the market for my next car, and I was considering another Volvo. However, the integration of Google software is a dealbreaker for me, so unfortunately, it's a sad pass.
... 😮💨today nobody build things last forever, the idea has changed... but an interesting news I learned lately is the car that ran the longest miles in the world was Volvo 1800S, it ran 3,039,122 miles... apparently, they know how to build something last forever...
If you round off the JD Power 2024 reliability survey results, a Volvo is likely to have one more reliability issue (2) than the reliability leader Lexus (1), in the third year of ownership. In that survey, Volvo scored better than Volkswagen, Audi, and Tesla.
I’m on my second Volvo. Not a single issue in five years driving an S90 Diesel and now a V90 T8 PHEV. Prior to Volvo I consistently drove Japanese cars and I had similar concerns. So far, they have been unfounded.
The Consumers Report on the Volvo XC90 does not look good at all. If it's been around since 2016, then it should be fully sorted and yet the reliability remains middling (or worse) on this model. Nice looking truck though, gotta say. And being built in Gothenburg (for now) too!
Consumer reports uses subscribers, reports, JD power uses verified owners. 2. Reliability is often loosely defined. No one is measuring how many times a car left you stranded, which is the ultimate reliability question. 3. IF YOU DO THE MATH, and leaving aside anecdotes, JD power says a Volvo is likely to have one more issue than “the reliability leader” Lexus, in the third year ownership. Much ado about not much.
@@billurban1581 Yes, both methodologies have their limitations. And problems with your wifi hotspot connectivity isn't the same as stalling out intermittently on the freeway, that's for sure. J.D. The prices are in line with other European premium car makers (or cheaper for equivalent add-ons) and there are many Volvo dealerships in the US. Dallas area has 8, Chicago alone has 10. States like Oklahoma and Kansas have at least 2 each... There is probably 10 in Florida, even Alabama has 5 of them... what do you mean there are not many in the US?
You might be right to worry about four cylinders / 2 litres except, in this case, the electric motor more than makes up for it. 523 lb ft is quite a bit of twist . . . (compare, it is rated to pull 5,000 lbs). The motor actually delivers 445 lb ft to the rear wheels before that four-cylinder knows you put your foot down. And during the whole process, measurably less stress on those four-cylinders. Fold the third row down, 65 ft.³ behind the second row.
Did they just say wired apple carplay? Even Honda Civics have wireless carplay now. Reminds me of when Honda had Bluetooth standard and BMW were still trying to sell $70k cars without Bluetooth. Huge miss, and a dealbreaker for 2024. Guess I'll hold out til 2026 to see if they can make the update. I prefer this over the EX90-I don't want to go all electric.
Another commenter referred to “more refined driving in EV MODE.” This is due to the ability to deliver 451 lb ft* to the rear wheels on demand, more than enough in normal stop and go. *Dyno test.
Why no climate control buttons/knobs?!! What is with all these new cars making drivers take their eyes off the road to touch a screen?! Dangerous. What's wrong with a knob that changes temp and tells me the temp?!! It's perfect and i can change without taking my eyes off the road or having the screen not recognize my fingers
@maudithiver where do you live? I could never do that here. Temperature is always changing. Can't get in a car when it's 20F and leave it on full blast heat the entire drive (unless it's a very short drive) or you'll be dying of heat. Or voice versa, get in a100F car, put on max AC, and eventually it needs to not be on max AC. And everything in between

Once it’s get to it, I do not have to play with the buttons anymore! Is is the same thing like the heating and cooling of your house. . By the way, I live in Canada!
I don't understand why it's so hard for luxury auto makers get something as fundamental as Apple Carplay or Android Auto working out of the gate, when more pedestrian car companies can do it at launch as standard equipment. It's like these car engineers and designers don't own smartphones or something. I lose faith in their capabilities when they can't do something as simple as that. Volvo, are you listening??
Because its compatibility and execution isn’t fully there. I had a VW that had wireless Apple CarPlay and it was painful to restore once it dropped off.
