It's a testament to good design when a car that was originally introduced in 2016 still looks fresher and better than competitors in 2025 with some tweaks. I have a 2019 V90 T6 Cross Country and have been thinking about upgrading to an XC90... this update makes it a lot more tempting! To those that are scared of Volvo's perceived reliability: I've never had any issues with my car, just regular maintenance at the Volvo dealer. Will definitely be a repeat buyer.
I own a 2021 V90 T8 and am also tempted, also because I have the older electric motor with less power and range. I can vouch for reliability. Not a single issue in three years, no rattles, the B&W sound system is the best I’ve heard (and I’m an audiophile)… I like it better than the Burmester system I heard in a Porsche Panamera.
About this 2025, Car and Driver says “We'd be quick to dismiss this mild overhaul as too little, too late if the XC90 weren't so good to begin with. We still prefer it over many newer competitors.”
Any particular reason you're considering switching from V90 to XC90? I have an XC90 Inscription, and I'm thinking about going to a V90CC when it's time. 😊
@ I like the higher seating position and the extra storage. When I bought my V90 I didn’t have the budget, but next year I might. I also feel that the B&W sound system’s acoustical performance benefits from the larger space.
It’s amazing how a car that received endless praise in 2016, still garners that same compliments 9 years later with just an update good job Volvo . 3 Xc90s and all these years later keep it up
Finally great to see your review of our pride in Sweden! And nice to see you driving in our beautiful streets of Malmö!😊 Thank you for very valuable information about the most important parts of the XC90 facelift. You guys are best! 👏🏻
Consumers: "We'd like more buttons, please. Trying to do everything in the screen while driving is distracting." Volvo: "Best we can do is this new criss-cross grill."
T8 PHEV is a no brainer, more refined driving in EV mode, and saves lots $$$ in gas. I drive a 2022 T8, and only refuels twice a year, saves thousands in gas, and still more resale value than B5.
Great video guys, always appreciate your take. My 2019 XC90 T6 Inscription is still perfect for us, but when its time, I'll be taking a hard look at a T8. 🇸🇪 💛 ✨️ ✨️ ✨️
thanks for sharing, finally you got a chance to drive the new version, it looks gorgeous. but why it is temporary design? will it change it soon? did they tell you why it always takes so long to upgrade new design compared to the rivals?
How is the reliability of the XC90? If you were to buy this vs a Range Rover Sport, which would you chose. Considering reliability, luxury, refinement, drivetrain etc.
Andrea/Zack, how does this car compare to the Mazda CX90/70 PHEV/MHEV? For power, ride, handling, interior, NVH? Is it fair to say it's a step up in luxury and priced to match?
I wouldn't use this as an example of a reliable simple hybrid. Just look at the Toyota examples for that. No idea why Volvo would use a turbo, supercharger and hybrid system all combined. Seems overly complex and will likely be a money pit after 5 years. Toyota's system is designed for efficiency and great fuel economy. This Volvo is just trying to grab the hybrid name so customers think they are saving the planet when in reality, this doesn't really get that much better fuel economy than other non-hybrid comparable vehicles.
As a Chevrolet Volt Ⅱ owner, I'm looking for a Volt-equivalent SUV, which GM shockingly doesn't make yet, so I'm surprised to consider Volvo for the first time.
I'm a Volvo xc90 fan, wish we got v6 in the US. Regarding the refresh, I like the previous front end it has a more chiseled look, this new front end seems more homogenized as it now looks more like everyone else... seems like Volvo is following not leading on design with this refresh... on that note i wish they also didn't affix what looks like an iPad onto the dash, it is not well integrated...
... 😮💨today nobody build things last forever, the idea has changed... but an interesting news I learned lately is the car that ran the longest miles in the world was Volvo 1800S, it ran 3,039,122 miles... apparently, they know how to build something last forever...
If you round off the JD Power 2024 reliability survey results, a Volvo is likely to have one more reliability issue (2) than the reliability leader Lexus (1), in the third year of ownership. In that survey, Volvo scored better than Volkswagen, Audi, and Tesla.
I’m on my second Volvo. Not a single issue in five years driving an S90 Diesel and now a V90 T8 PHEV. Prior to Volvo I consistently drove Japanese cars and I had similar concerns. So far, they have been unfounded.
Volvo doesn't offer Android Auto in conjunction with its Android-based operating system because the functions of Android Auto are already built into the car. Volvo's operating system has a user interface that's similar to Android Auto, and you can still download apps from Google Play. You can also pair your phone with Bluetooth for phone calls.
The prices are in line with other European premium car makers (or cheaper for equivalent add-ons) and there are many Volvo dealerships in the US. Dallas area has 8, Chicago alone has 10. States like Oklahoma and Kansas have at least 2 each... There is probably 10 in Florida, even Alabama has 5 of them... what do you mean there are not many in the US?
Another commenter referred to “more refined driving in EV MODE.” This is due to the ability to deliver 445 lb ft* to the rear wheels on demand, more than enough in normal stop and go. *Dyno test.
I don't understand why it's so hard for luxury auto makers get something as fundamental as Apple Carplay or Android Auto working out of the gate, when more pedestrian car companies can do it at launch as standard equipment. It's like these car engineers and designers don't own smartphones or something. I lose faith in their capabilities when they can't do something as simple as that. Volvo, are you listening??
The Consumers Report on the Volvo XC90 does not look good at all. If it's been around since 2016, then it should be fully sorted and yet the reliability remains middling (or worse) on this model. Nice looking truck though, gotta say. And being built in Gothenburg (for now) too!
Consumer reports uses subscribers, reports, JD power uses verified owners. 2. Reliability is often loosely defined. No one is measuring how many times a car left you stranded, which is the ultimate reliability question. 3. IF YOU DO THE MATH, and leaving aside anecdotes, JD power says a Volvo is likely to have one more issue than “the reliability leader” Lexus, in the third year ownership. Much ado about not much.
For anyone looking at this car, I own a 2016 XC90 T6 Inscription and there is hardly any difference between mine and this new one. If you choose to buy a preowned XC90, you'll be missing hardly anything and saving tens of thousands of dollars. Don't let the difference in infotainment fool you, there is no difference in functionality, only the way it looks; and the driver display is far superior in the older model with cool themes you can select. Mine also has the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and it's identical to this one. Don't waste your money. You're getting nothing extra special with this new XC90. My 2016 XC90 is selling on the market for only $20k CAD. So unless you really think the new looks is worth $80k more, do yourself a favour and check the preowned ones. Thank me later.
So sophisticated and sexy vehicle:: if had the money for it would swap Toyota engine in there and voila 😎 no one would believe the reliability of it 😆😉😎✅

I forgot that 2016 was when that was designed like that. Even in 2024 it looks so modern. I love Volvo for that

These couple reviews are stonking. This is an excellent review.

You sound like one of those Toyota people bragging about mileage
@calebwany8422 I drive a Volvo. Not Toyota
Loving the updated (yet expensive) XC90!
Amazing video as always Andrea and Zack!
It’s half the price of a q7

Great review, team! How many times did Zack say “CX90” while filming? 😂
Great video!

Another great video. Did you get a chance to use the Oresund Bridge? It's on my to do list.
Still classically elegant and timeless, yet modern and fresh. Glad they got it right!

Got to wonder just how expensive these hybrids are going to be as they age. So many things to go wrong.
Well said 😁👍
Just look at market place. Hybrids have been around longer than EVs.
@@MrRaitzii think for this car the twin-charged engine could be a big problem.

@@jeffer1101Volvo dropped the twin charged engines already in Europe. I don't understand why they still sell them.
What is the color of the interior you drove in the video? It's very calming!

I am about to get the 2024 xc90 t8 ultimate dark in vapor Grey color for 75 grand, should I skip or cop?

2024 looks way better outside
Are you saying that half way thru 2025 there is a new model?? 2025.5??
Goddammit! If I knew you were in southern part of Sweden I would have invited you out for a fika 😂
What about reliability?
Great, timeless design / styling... other companies could learn a lot from this! Good job guys!
Reliability concerns keep me away. Nice looking, but reliability is weighted more heavily in my calculation.

This XC 90 is beautiful. Lot of good features. I give this a 9 out of 10. Great show Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻☕️☕️

Volvo Do away with the shiny hard plastic at the center console outside that it's a classy vehicle .
Nice ❤

You can drive it in EV mode up to 140 km/h/87 mph.
B6 in US no longer has the supercharger, just a turbo
Compared with BMW X7, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS, Tesla Model X, & Toyota Grand Highlander

Wired Apple car play ! You re kidding me 😮

In Sweden, but I spotted a US flag at 0:49 😀
Most likely stock footage/press media footage. I can see they are in Sweden when driving.
Oh my old MTD lawn mower is 2 cylinder ….
0:50 Why is there an American 🇺🇸 flag flying in Sweden?
I can imagine you driving around listening to Abba
The ugly front grill is straight outta BMW X3 and the fake iPad in the center is still hideous!!
Seems like a company preparing for bankruptcy.
Buy a Volvo and Geely will throw in a new mini split . win win .
