The protruding "tablet" is the only con here, I love everything else. The grill is elegant, the interior is truly a meditative space, the sound system is to die for. One of the most elegant options on the market. Bring on the 60 and 40 update, please!
Own a 2022 xc90 - amazing car, never fails, drives great, feels great, love all the safety features and tech. Not into luxury cars or flashy cars, it just felt right. I hope they continue to gradually improve and refine the range over time. I love that strategy - in some way it makes me feel valued as an owner, like they’re not trying to sell me on the radical new model when the cycle ends. So I’ll probably buy another in a 4-5 years if they’re still making them or something equivalent then.
Current XC60 owner. The only thing I really want them to change is center storage space forward of the center console. Many vehicles do it better, including even the Volvo XC40. Get the Bowers & Wilkins system, you won’t regret it!
@@billurban1581 probably a bit more than that. If you’re buying a Volvo and can’t afford the B&W speakers, DO NOT listen to them because it’s a very big upgrade and is definitely noticeable. Comparison is the thief of joy.
I like this. That grille is auch a sharp look compared to the competition. I'm fine with the center screen placenent. Putting it forward makes it easier to reach, and I like how it's bracketed by the air vents. Sure, it could be even better integrated, but this is very practical and looks all right.
Dude I've recently found you online and I know u appreciate Gen 1 of the XC90 (v8). My best friend's dad had one in the 2000s. Indeed a legendary design! I think u shud be happy with this refresh from Volvo as well... I think it's beautiful
@@ntuthukodlame1894 ohhh thank you!! That's awesome haha, I really adore the XC90 😂 I quite like this refresh! I'm soon to sample the new EX90 as well!
Ford integrates that center stack so nicely while this thing just looks like, well, a Tablet stuck in the air vents...Really ? Still ? and no wireless carplay ? at this point in time ? One step forward... 3 steps back
The infotainment screen is just lazy design. We have a 2021 XC90 T8, and the screen is much better integrated. They should have kept the same display size, but added a faster processor for snappier UI.
IF you do the JD Power math, a Volvo is likely to have one more reliability issue than a Lexus, in the third year of ownership. This issue has been wildly overstated.
It sounds like they went all in on electric and then saw market trends that showed we actually don't want electric but to not compromise the EX90, they're giving us this refresh on the XC90 as an afterthought. This refresh should've happened before the release of the EX90 in 2023 or 2024. Honda Civics have wireless apple car play, a $60k+ vehicle should as well. It's a dealbreaker for me. I like the question you squeezed in there at the end. What they should do is make a plug in hybrid version of the EX90 and sell that at $65k to $70k. I'd buy that.
Really don’t like how busy they made the front end with a million lines everywhere and then the ancient looking rear end that now looks like a CRV backside. I like the new grille but the slide slats with lines looks bad. I prefer the pre refresh exterior by a large margin. It’s no longer elegant outside. Interior is gorgeous. Great material selection. Wish they had a six cylinder engine for the US market as I think it would increase the appeal greatly to a wider audience.
No design change for that price tag !? .. or the version that has a redesign is 20k more .. .. cmon… reg folk would touch an MDX .. definitely not even think about considering xc90.. .. 35k with credits u get Model Y. .. 70K u get 2x model Y instead of one same looking volvo lol
@ I would still take it over a Volvo. Have worked on a few and I can’t see what the hoopla is over them when Acura has all of the same features and feels like a better quality product than Volvo. Even the old Land Cruiser/GX feels better than Volvo. 4.7 V8/5.6 V8 yum yum yum. The only Volvo I would consider is with the Yamaha V8
@ this has more 100hp than the mdx and 25% better mpg. The interior is actually luxurious mdx isnt. mdx will drive sportier. Volvo actually makes luxury cars and acura makes premium.
@ smiles per gallon win over actual miles per gallon. Plus the MDX is just more comfortable and relaxing and doesn’t have the mechanical expense of Europeans.
I want more volt/i3 style phevs, with 50-100 miles of electric range and a gas range extender thats not connected to the wheels at all. Its why im looking forward to the ram phev so much as its ev first and hybrid second
I hope Alex is right about Android Auto being available. Out of all the reviews I've watched, no one's mentioned it, even Android phone users. Currently driving a Polestar 2 with Android Automotive and just wired Carplay. While I like Automotive, some apps I'm used to using aren't available for download but work on Android Auto no problem. Sorry, I mis-spoke. Volvo Says they do not plan to add AA, although they could. The reason is that they believe Android users will be OK using the Android based system as if it were another Android device. Personally, I'd rather have smartphone projection.
I will never buy a 4 cylinder--the buzzing and/or groaning does not a luxury car invoke. So I will visit the Acura or BMW dealer. I've been a Lexus RX customer for decades, but that time has come to an end.

I still hate the tablet on the dash but at least they incorporated it more intelligently than other manufacturers. Besides that, the interior is wow.
Ya I appreciate that they at least attempted to fit it into the existing dash, instead of just having it stick out the top like other cars.
16:52 I 100% agree. Not a fan of the new EX interiors. The XC90 interior looks so much better.
They knocked this one out of the park. Wish list would include better interior packaging, big on the outside, not on the inside.
I like the refresh subtle improvements. Less nvh is a good thing!
The front end is beautifully designed. Maybe the XC60 will get the same refresh.

One reason you pick the MDX over the XC90. Reliability, sure Volvo is nice, but for how long?
I think you may want to take a look at the reliability scores for MDX since 2017. Has not been great

If they made a Polestar Engineering R8 version with paddle shifters and more aggressive magnaride suspension... that would be perfect!

Volvo needs to stop with the huge wheels. I’ve had three and the wheels ruin the ride. I downsize them, which adds to the cost.

If it didn’t have horrendous reliability and let’s be honest it’s really a 2 row, or would make a fantastic rx competitor
This is way better than the RX. The RX is the biggest joke in the luxury segment. It’s worst in class in just about every way possible
