How to Fix Security Cameras Turning Off at Night

Troubleshooting cameras can be a frustrating experience. Fortunately our professional techs have seen it all and can offer some great insight into troubleshooting your security cameras. This video focuses on power draw issues that can occur at night time when a cameras IRs turn on.
If you notice that your cameras are turning off at night, or they stop working all together then the first thing to check is the power. In our example, channel 2 is operating normally, while channel 3 has completely stopped working, and channel 4 works during the day but not at night time. We can determine that channel 3s power supply is possibly no longer working, and that channel 4 is also experiencing issues with power.
Here is a list of things to check and confirm:
1) The power supply is still providing power
2) The cable has not been damaged or chewed on
3) How the power cable/wire is terminated at the camera (and in the power box if applicable) - check for signs of electrical shorts
Bench testing the camera by dismounting it, bringing it inside, and testing with a short BNC cable as well as a 12V DC power supply is the next step in troubleshooting. If the camera works during the bench test without issues then you can usually narrow the issue down to your cabling. Rarely a power supply loses it's efficiency and does not provide enough amperage so it is also a good idea to test with a new or more powerful (more amps) supply.

Thank you so much! My cameras were not switching to nighttime mode. So in listening to your video, I purchased two shorter BNC cables (6ft) and now both cameras successfully switched to night mode. Both voltage indicators are gone. Thank you so much!!!!
