    I have no interest in fish and even after watching almost all of AVNJ's videos I'm still kinda afraid of the ocean. That being said there is nothing I'm more hyped for right now than these videos

      The book I recommended and used as a guide for this class is called: "Caillet, G.M., M.S. Love and A.W. Ebeling. 1996. Fishes: A Field and Laboratory Manual on Their Structure, Identification and Natural History."
      Great read to learn this information.

    Thank you so much for this course, normally I would never would have learned that much about fish, but after finding this channel and watching for the last while I am realizing how great fish are. I really believe this kind of access to information could help conservation if enough people can see it.

    The more I learn about the term fish the more I realize it's like "beast" or "creature" in that almost completely unrelated animals get slapped with the same label.

    First off, truly love that you're doing these classes. It's really cool, and I'm going into palaeontology as a job, so learning about the more ancient fish was really cool for me. Second, will we be looking at specifics of each group in later classes?

      I haven’t decided if we will do a list of like 200 families just speed run for one of the lectures or not. As far as my current plan goes, this is the last we talk about classification, and we now move into all the forms, functions, and behaviors

      fishes is the correct plural when talking about multiple different species, fish is the correct plural when talking about multiple individuals of one species

    i'm a bit late to the party but, i've always wanted to ask what really separated the helicoprion from being more related to sharks since the fossils we found of it were probably all teeth, and probably the difference between ratfish and sharks in general and why they're a separate group

    You can remember agnathans and gnathostomes because it's like gnash, the song Lamborghini Mercy is what I think of "it is a weeping and a moaning and a gnashing of teeth" or also the word gnaw which is most likely related to the same ancient word that became gnat like the little flying insects. Fuck I'm a nerd
