REPLACING FRONT BRAKE PADS ON A HONDA NSC50 VISION SCOOTER

  • One day the front brake pads will be very, very thin and needs to be replaced. How to do the work is shown in this video.
The brake performance of the Honda NSC50 Vision scooter moped is very good and the main reason is that the brakes are the same as on the 110 cc motorcycle scooter version. The Nissin brake caliper is however of a rather cheap design. If the scooter has been used on salted roads, the calipers pistons may very well be too rusty to be pushed in without damaging the calipers internal seals. Very small corrosion marks, like on the pistons of this bike, might be possible to clean and remove without issues.
The pistons must always move freely in the caliper and they must absolutely not leak.
If you need to buy new pistons, note that all three pistons are of different diameters, and accordingly so are the seals.
Worst case is that the whole caliper sub assembly needs to be replaced, quite costly. Part number is 45150-KWN-641.
A new original Honda / Nissin pad set, 06455-KZL-861, costs around 40 Euro (might very well vary in different countries).
The price range for aftermarket pad sets vary from 10 to 30 Euro.
In the video a set of Galfer Semi Metal FD 439 G1054 was used.
How to do other service of a Honda NSC 50 Vision scooter, like replacing the brake fluid, is shown in this video:
