    I just bled my front and back brakes using this video! And I’m still alive to leave this comment! Thanks, Paul! Your videos are fantastic. Your style of giving the information directly without a ton of extra commentary is perfect. And I love that you sprinkle in some humor. I’m looking forward to experiencing the interesting flavors when I brush my teeth tonight.

    I’m really worried to work on my mopeds breaks because I know it can be a deadly mistake. But you are definitely helping me gain the confidence. I already know the hard part which is finding the right break pads for my moped

    Thanks Paul. I bought a chinese scooter from Amazon. Its a lot of fun! I will probably change my brake pads one day, while im not riding, I enjoy learning everthing I can about my machine, and you videos are absolutely the best. Bewtween riding and wrenching, probably my 2 favorite things. Cheers!

      Now that I've done the repairs a few times, I recognize that some important details are being left out by all the creators. For example, the tiny ears on the pad retainer clip that hold the outer pad in position are easy to overlook by novice mechanics. My latest mistake was reusing the banjo bolt washers. Sometimes they may work, but not this time. Then at the auto parts store, I unknowingly bought a package with 4 slightly different sizes of washers. All are all very close to 10 mm, but rather than waste more brake fluid I'll order some scooter specific 10mm and maybe new banjos and bleeders. Lessons hard learned are lessons remembered.

    Can you gravity bleed Chinese scooter brakes? They all seem to have that pressure restrictor at the calibre

    I have a 150cc Chinese motorscooter from 2007. The front brake has an ABS. After changing my brake fluid my brake light will not turn off. I am wondering if the abs sensor has tripped. how do I reset or the abs so my light will turn off?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the brake switch on your lever. On these scooters, the switch is not related to the hydraulic parts. It's a mechanical switch, and yours might just be stuck or broken. These scooters don't have any sensors for the ABS.

    Whats the best sites to order parts from, definitely performance parts? Also if you could help me out.. I'm looking to replace my wires from my starter motor to the relay/ solenoid to my battery. I already got the 8g wire but I am looking for the spade connectors that go on the ends.. cause I can't get the old ones off to reuse them and I don't wanna splice them or quick connect them so they will go back into the pins. So I'm looking for the spade connects that I can crimp on the 8g wire, these spade connects are rather longer than usual. Thank you very much

    Hey Paul, thanks for the vids! Your channel has been very helpful while working on my taotao 50.
    I believe I may have run into a problem while changing my pads and bleeding the brakes. It seems that my brake is no longer pushing the pistons after I had to push them back to install the new pads. Do you have any advise on how I can get the pistons pushing again when u pull the brake lever? Do I simply need to finish the bleed and replenish the brake fluid, or do I need to do something to un jam them?

      You might just need a brake bleed. I would try that first.

      Yes, Eton is made by SYM scooters. It's a Taiwanese company but most of their scooters are made in China.

    ive been driving my moped for 3 weeks, suddently my back break stopped working, does that means it out of brake fluid or ?? something else ?

      The rear brake on most scooters is cable actuated. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/auCGOBgAi_Q/w-d-xo.html

    Can I use brake parts cleaner on the disc?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can clean the brake rotor with brake parts cleaner. If you need to clean the brake pads, don't use chemicals. Water is ok to clean the brake pads.

    What are the fastener torque numbers?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never use a torque wrench on this stuff, and there isn't really a service manual for most Chinese scooters... but if you must have numbers, here is what Honda recommends for their scooters:
      5mm diameter bolts: 5.2 Nm
      6mm diameter bolts: 10 Nm
      8mm diameter bolts: 22 Nm
      10mm diameter bolts: 34 Nm
      12mm diameter bolts: 54 Nm.
      The diameter is the width of the shaft of the bolt, not the size of wrench you use.
      When working on a Chinese scooter, be very careful with the smaller bolts, because sometimes they are made of low quality steel and will strip out easily. Your best bet is to gently tighten them and use loctite on important stuff like brakes and axles.
