- If I ask you to describe an American-style performance car, you’d probably imagine something with a big motor up front, rear wheel drive and fast in a straight line. If I ask you to describe a distinctly English performance car, you’d most likely describe a small, light, convertible sports car, like a Triumph. America, the UK, Germany, Japan, all of these countries have their own unique take on what a performance car should be. But what if I asked you about China? What make something a uniquely Chinese performance car? I’m hoping that the car we’re reviewing today, the Lynk & Co 03+, will help us answer that question.

This channel is a great idea! There are so many new Chinese cars being released that us Westerners have no idea about. An English-language review channel is perfect for helping us understand the market better.
99% of them are cheap copies of already produced , better made by far cars.

Kinda hard to be stopped when it was never offered. Next talk of Lynk & Co pushing into the US market is based on the 01 CUV via Volvo’s dealership system. It’s success or failure is more likely to be based on trade tariffs. National security only comes into play on communications technology or duel role. Since most civilian cars outside of James Bond films don’t fire missiles or are not being used to build 5G wireless networks. It will come down to trade.

Donut Media brought me here! This is now my dream car. It's perfect in every aspect for me. The fact that it can be tuned to 528 hp reliably is AMAZING. Really solid review man!
Consider it’s price at 250k Yuan which is roughly 35K USD I say it not a good deal u could get much better cars used for 35k and tuning is almost impossible for this model because there is so little info on them and literally no aftermarket company has any tuning plans for the car. The 500hp one was probably done Cyan racing which they did use it to win WTCR but as a regular individual this car would not be possible to get to 500 hp without some serious Cash

at first I dont really like how the front look, but after awhile i start to like it a bit more because its so different. would love to have one of these but in a different color
I like how the external trim has labels on them like downforce components. It's like as if they forgot to remove the part stickers from a flatpack.
I feel like the if that 3rd tier was left out the car would be extremely attractive. Also I really like your type of car showcase, it’s quick but still shows the vehicle and it’s features off while getting to see it in action. Good video.

I'd say your title described this car pretty accurately, It's a sporty sedan, not a performance car. A cousin of mine bought one last year and sold it in 5 months. Many people considered it as the first performance car of China. But I don't think so. The safely tuned Volvo engine and the small brakes explained everything. I described it as a part-time awd Civic Si or Focus ST or Lancer Ralliart to my foreign friends. It's not at the performance car level as a Type R, an RS or an EVO. There‘s a rumor that they will make a 350+hp version of the 03 maybe with the 2022 facelift. With better brakes and stiffer suspension, it will be our 03 EVO or 03 Type R, and I will definitely get one.

@@alternatr Wake up, China is the world's largest producer and seller of cars. It's a cheap car, it comes with a lifetime warranty and many owners of this brand have been driving it for more than a decade and the specs are the best in the price range
I think it's hilarious that this uses a Borg Warner driveline while the mustang uses a Chinese Getrag 6 speed the self distructs even if the BW stuff may be made in China, too.

All car manufacturers are making sure that the ICE era goes out with a bang, this decade is the last decade for ICE vehicles until theyre banned in most of Europe (2026 in Norway and Sweden, 2032 in Germany i believe and 2042 for the rest of Europe).
Their race version is almost 600hp. It's raced by Team Cyan, I think.

That Charger inspired grill with Juke headlights and VW lower bumper. It looks like an Impreza sedan with rear Audi tail lights and Corolla inspired rear . It’s everything

Yea , though its a pretty unique design with the headlights and i like the overall design for a compact sedan especially. I wish they made a version without the top headlights just so we can see how cool it looks.

The lights on top of the hood reminds me a lot of the Nissan Juke. Lots of air intake noise during launch. I wish They sold them in the U.S.

That's the best yellow I've ever seen on a car.
Interesting take on the 3 tier. Though I don't think they are first to do it. Though the all black centre is quite unique.
The Nissan Juke is 3 tier for sure, but the main headlights are made a feature, where as on the link they are hidden as much as possible.
Some Citreons of early to mid 2010s had three tier faces.
Much of this I believe was due to the advent of mandatory daytime running lights in Europe, and I assume other parts of the world.
Arguably, Audi spearheaded the drls as being a distinctive design element to mark their brand identity, rather than just treating them as an annoying necessity.
Many cars brands that had drls in separate units in cars seem to be going back to having them integrated into the head units. Especially as all LED lights have evolved.
Very interesting times ahead with electric cars not needing grills (modern ic cars don't even need grills of any significane) and evolving LED laser headlight tech. Cars "faces" may look very different that what we are used to.

The naming looks like a Smart phone. If you just look at the name you'll think is another Chinese branded phone. But I already know this from watching a WTC Championship as they've started joining the competition last year and they're winning as well. I told myself "WHAT MADE IS THIS CAR? It's not the traditional car brand competing in this annual competition.
Look for the Cyan lynk&co o3 touring car if you don't like the top headlights .. they moved then down , and it looks great
I must admit, I had no idea what this was until I saw it win the FIA World Touring Car Cup championship last year. The company is a little bit mad (in a good way) as mentioned in the video. For example, they are planning a road going 03 Cyan super saloon which weighs below 1300kg, 190+ top speed with a 2.0 4 cylinder with 530bhp Front Wheel Drive and an 8k rev limit. Madness but I love it.
We haven’t heard any news about a production model, but we’re definitely going to want to get our hands one if it come out!

I had the privilege of test driving the Lynk & Co SUV probably 100 hours over 2 months on all terrain, up to 125mph on 2 mile oval track - nice vehicle... the poor man's Volvo if you like ;-}
