Repairing my Air Conditioner - ASMR

  • Relax as I replace a contactor in an air conditioner.
Please help make my channel the best it can be by becoming a patron of my work at / relaxingasmr
It seems that whenever I'm set to make a new video, something always comes up and in this case it was this AC unit. I have combined chores and ASMR videos in the past, so this won't be anything new to me and many of you, so sit back and relax as I do all the work and perhaps something in this video will help you someday if your contactor fails.
If you stumbled across my ASMR channel while searching for a video on replacing a contactor, well you came to the right place and hopefully you'll take on your own contactor replacement project in a most relaxed frame of mind.
This is a re-upload of an older video.

Really nice video, actually labour that was quite relaxing. I like the first and the third part most. The ones were you didn't record sound as you went along but put on sound afterwards. It's something about the lack of room, the closeness of the voice and the constant gainlevel that makes it more relaxing than the part you recorded live.
Good thing you switched that unit because those screws weren't gonna make it much longer. ;-P

I highly recommend grounding out the capacitor before touching anything with the contactor it doesn’t matter that you disconnected the 240 the charge is still in the capacitor for around 40 minutes at minimum take a screwdriver with a insulated handle and touch the tips of the capacitor to make sure you’re 100% safe

here in the US, houses have both 110 and 240 volt service. generally, if you go look at the wires coming into your home, there are two black wires and a silver or bare wire known as neutral. between the two black wires, there is a total voltage of 240 volts, and between one black wire and the neutral, there is a voltage of 110 volts.

I have had two other problems since the video was made: 1. a small wire that goes from the outdoor unit to the thermostat I think, wore the insulation off of itself where is passed through the metal wall of the unit and thus touched the metal and created a short. Carrier should have used a rubber grommet in a wire pass-through like that. Problem #2 was the motor failing on the air handler in the attic. the unit is well over 20 years old now and as long as the compressor remains fine I shall help it along as needed. It's been a good unit for sure and will possibly make a video the next time I have to work on it:)
