I Don't Always Use Fountain Pens - ASMR

  • Relax as I give you a glimpse of a few old Parker fountains pens and discuss why I don't always use pens. I'll also show you my AlphaSmart NEO and unbox an additional NEO.
    Pens shown are are mixture of Parker Vacumatics, 51s, 45s, and 75s.
    I apologize in advance because later in the video the sound is slightly out of sync. I am working on a solution to that.

    "Now, I wonder.. Brian, from what I've heard, you're using your paper, not for writing, but for rolling doobies!! You're gonna be doing a lot of doobie-rolling when you're living in a van down by the river! "

    You know, I watched this video of yours ages ago and enjoyed it then as I've been following you now for at least... I don't know, 4 to 5 years? I remember some of your first videos with the match sticks and stuff. Sometimes I browse through the older stuff of yours in a cycle.
    But you've honestly helped me in a LOT of ways with advice and some ideas of my own... you see, I'm going into armed service soon later this year. I'm a creative, artistic person who likes to write, draw and a bunch of other things and with military service such pursuits aren't always easy to achieve, but are necessary for my own sanity and well being. This Alpha Smart NEO you exposed me to, I was thinking on how I could do my creative output while in service because I'll be in a situation where I'll be in a barracks or even out in the wilderness deployed somewhere, and I need something portable, robust and inconspicious. A tablet would draw too much attention from comrades in the army and NCO's and would be too resource intensive with power, and expensive to replace if it gets broke which is a likely possibility in the rough and tumble of army life.
    A typewriter is way too heavy and again, attention seeking. While I'm not ashamed of my creative pursuits I just don't want stuff stolen or mishandled. But a very basic, rugged looking keyboard like this? NCO's would not bat an eye, no squad and bunk mates wouldn't be interested in it and with the sheer versatility and economics of this device means I have a means to write novels I've been itching to do for such a long time and I'll be able to do it even when I'm in the worst warzones or loneliest of outposts. And if it gets dropped or has some rough handling it'll be a lot better than other devices because this was made in mind for special needs kids and stuff so its built to be robust and durable. I just have some Double A batteries on my person, and per set of batteries I have 700 hours of writing... I sincerely thank you for even exposing me to this device Relaxing ASMR, because over the years of helping me wind down in evenings and in general and making me feel good physically you're going to help me even when I'm not connected to the internet, when I'm far away from the comforts of peaceful civilization.
    Thank you.

    I see we back to 90's here:) Seriously speaking that's great video and using Neo is really good idea for writers nowdays.

  • @RelaxingASMR
    @RelaxingASMR  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The NEO is helpful during all those times when your mind isn't set for writing. Often, it's necessary for the writer to just get something down before his/her creativity starts to kick and the joy of writing overcomes the pain of writer's block. Without the ability to get away from the distractions of email, TV, internet, etc, a writer having a tough time might not ever finish a piece because writing is hard and it's too easy to say "I'll just check my Facebook page today and write tomorrow".

    I definitely need to check out more of your videos, Sir! Very relaxing! Writing with a utensil and paper has always been a joy for me. I'm 23 and I have been journaling since I could pick up a pencil. My family thinks its so cool that I still keep a dairy as a college graduate and that I'll have a record of all these experiences throughout my life, big and small, good and bad, that I've written down. And now I really want to write an old-fashioned love letter and mail it to my boyfriend who is such a romantic. He would love it. Thanks for the inspiration!

    The NEO is really just a tool to use while away from your computer and if you are like me, you need to be away from your computer, free from distractions to write that first draft. Eventually you will need to transfer what you have done so far onto your computer for proper editing and formatting, etc...
    Thanks for watching.

      You don't know????? Whaaaaat I am 18 and I write already my entire life only with a fountain pen (in school we needed to learn writing with that instead of with a normal pen or a pencil) Although, now, 12 years later, I am the only one from my class still writing with a fountain pen. the others say that it is 'old' (and expencive). I think it's classy. I write much better with a fountain pen and I am left handed.
      And btw, if you want a good quality, modern fountain pen, I recommend Lamy, I write with _Lamy Linea_ in F(fine) and I love it, it is perfect the feeling and the weight and everything (but that one was limited edition) but _Lamy CP1_ and _Lamy St_ are pretty much the same I think, only an other design :)

    I love how even though these videos are asmr, they have a point. It bothers me when ASMR people try so much to "trigger" people that they forget to make sense, and have meaning in their videos. Even if you don't get asmr, this is still relaxing an interesting. Thanks for making awesome vids man!

    I once used one of these to make a replica of a nautical log for a civil war ship. It was a school project when I was like 10. Fun to write with, but bc I was using a special paper with "wrinkles" on it, the ink would sometimes bleed out. But in the end it looked a little more realistic

    2.5 pages at 10% full.
    (2.5 / 0.1) * (1 file) = 25 pages per file.
    25 pages * 8 files = Exactly 200 pages (roughly).
    Pretty damn good for the hardware inside that device. Even as a professional using laptops and smartphones every day, love the idea of not having internet. The concept of focusing on one task and doing it right seems lost on so many people in this modern world full of distractions.

    As a budding writer, I'm genuinely interested as to what you are writing. I saw in some of the files that you showed in the video were quite well-written and described, but it would be awesome if some contextual information could be given about them. Of course, it's perfectly understandable if you don't want to. After all, some writers dislike showing off unfinished pieces/first drafts to others, so it's completely fine if you don't want to. (: But great video once more!

      +Yui Wakayama Probably just lines from a first or second draft. Aside from an occasional short story, I'm working on a couple of different projects (novels), one involving black market organ harvesting and the other about a man and wife learning to cope with loss and learning how to live and love again. Not sure which you might have seen and even less sure if I'll ever finish them lol. Keep writing, but don't let it drive you mad;)

    • @analisa3416
      @analisa3416 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      RelaxingASMR I honestly didn't think you would reply to me, so thank you for doing so! (: Those two plots are quite different from one another, I must say, but they both sound equally interesting (though I admit I'd be more inclined to read the latter-mentioned). It would be awesome to read those sometime, but if you don't finish them, then that's just a part of being a writer! Writing is one of my biggest passions, so I don't think I'd give it up anytime soon...though it has made me a little frustrated at times. But that's okay, because that's what being a writer enlists.

    Try looking into a mechanical keyboard with cherry mx switches. The most common variants are:
    Blue: clickey and loud (the one most people refer to)
    Brown: feel like blue but no sound
    Red: very little pressure needed to press (preferred by pc gamers)

      +Lysergide You lucky bugger, I had to settle with browns, I couldn't find anywhere to get blues.
