    This is probably the best explanation of the Kibbe body types I’ve seen. Everyone always uses the jargon attached to Kibbe, but never bother to explain what those words mean or how it presents. I’ve binged all your other vids and I’m excited to see more!

    • @tails2490
      @tails2490 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Right. The kibbe subreddit is not helpful at all because everyone interprets the descriptions differently. Looking at the same photo, one person will say "the shoulders are blunt" while another person claims "the shoulders are sharp." It should be more objective but it's really very subjective.

      @@raquel5401 try staying within your category then. if you fit soft natural criteria but you are tall you are a curvy flamboyant natural. Tall curvy women are often misplaced in the soft dramatic category because people forget that flamboyant naturals come in curvy too. Look at Jennifer Lawrence for reference. • @purrgundy

      The key is to reduce the "Kibbe types" to their core principles. Look at your bone structure. Which do you think is dominant: Verticality? Width? Balance? Petiteness? If you were to draw how fabric falls on your body, how would it look? Would it stretch around your shoulders? Drape around the hips? Drape out the bust? Or would it fall straight from your shoulders to your feet?

    I wonder whether the height limitations on the Kibbe types need to be updated, because on average, people are taller now than in previous decades. Because of my 5'9" height, most of the categories are automatically ruled out. Yet when I took the test, Dramatic Classic was the closest to my score--except that I'm too tall. I don't feel like many of the A answers describe me (I'm not that thin) or many of the Bs either (I'm not that wide). Maybe I just need a pair of more objective eyes, haha.

    I have a pixie kind of look. I’ve always looked better with medium to short hair. I’m 5’2 and 90lbs-115lbs (due to ED it varies), but no matter how thin I am I don’t really look under weight. I’m kinda naturally big boned while also very petite. I feel like I’m fairly sharp, my shoulders seem a little wide and when I’m at a healthy weight I’m a curvy petite (like 35-26-35). My limbs are pretty small. My torso and legs both seem pretty short with how I’m built. Even when I am health my hips are very bony and you can always see at least some of my rib cage on my chest. So I’m guessing I’m probably a gamine or a flamboyant gamine. i think my body is a combination of soft dramatic and classic. my face is much softer looking compared to my body, people always think im shorter than i am when im sitting down because i have a small face and my torso is short. they are often suprised that i have long limbs and 5'7. i can wear something that shows my figure but it cannot be something too feminine. Anything with floral patterns, laces or peter pan collar looks very unflattering on me. I can never seem to pull it off no matter what i try.

      ive never worn anything w a peter pan collar before until very recently. I asked my aunt if i could borrow a shirt for my job interview and she gave me a button up shirt with a peter pan collar. boy i was shocked when i looked in the mirror, it was so awkward and unflattering on me. I find that "softer" looking clothes don't work out for my body type.

    • @PrinceDuCiel7
      @PrinceDuCiel7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m just ignoring the height thing. It’s too limiting. I’m 5’11” but proportionately I’m a romantic. Soft dramatic just doesn’t fit my proportions. Not my fault the world is too short. Put me in with the taller populations and I don’t Look tall anymore.
      I never look Tall, I just look huge. Next to skinny tall people, I look plump and juicy lol

    • @merelmijs
      @merelmijs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PrinceDuCiel7 I see. In my case it's not so much clashing like that, more that I have not enough realistic perspective on what I actually look like so I'm not sure if I'm a skinny dramatic or a wide natural, let alone which subtype out of those, or if I'm a dramatic body type with natural essence even. (Essence, even harder to pinpoint in myself. The more I try the less I have an idea what the hell I even look like 🙃)

    • @oliviamurphy9482
      @oliviamurphy9482 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      according to Kibbe the only types us tall women can be are Dramatic, Soft Dramatic, or Flamboyant Natural-- that is, unless he doesn't KNOW your height lol. He typed Audrey Hepburn who was at least 5'7", as a Gamine type, which he said can only go up to 5'5". He typed Rihanna as a Theatrical Romantic, even though she is 5'8".
      Part of the issue for me is recognizing that different ethnicities can have common traits that Kibbe with his Western and Eurocentric lens, didn't consider. For example, many Black women have full lips and fuller figures, and many African American women are average height and above. If large hips and behinds are a romantic trait but height is a dramatic trait, are most Black American Women Soft Dramatics? I don't think so.
      I think it's important to take into account proportions and relative height. I have a huge head which makes me look disproportionately shorter sometimes, and I am very blunt and not sharp at all. So I know I am not a Dramatic, I think I am more of a softer natural. ALSO check out Kitchener's Essences, see if that helps y'all.
      Sorry for the essay lol.

I was in complete dysmorphia land due to being overweight for a long time, but I am 5'9'' so this was really messing with me. lol I don't have enough curve to be a soft dramatic, not enough width to be a flamboyant natural. That leaves dramatic! I've been incorporating some looser fabrics here and there to work with my 'additional flesh' while I'm overweight so that seems to be working, but full glam looks a bit much on me - minimalist looks work better, so I guess I'm pure dramatic :) thank you!

    since all of the other types basically have heigh limits does that mean at 5'9" i would automatically be a dramatic? i feel like i identified more with the classic/slightly natural in the kitchner so its interesting to see the difference with this one. i dont have a lot of angularity in my face but my body is definitely "sinewy" with long limbs, and even when i am at my fittest i dont look athletic at all. but i dont have the curves to fit soft dramatic. is it common to identify with a totally different category in kitchner vs kibbe?

      i have always heard that above 5'10 you are either dramatic or soft dramatic. At that height, your vertical line is just the most dominant feature no matter what. this is very true for me (6 feet tall), I could tell instantly I was a soft dramatic and there's no feature I get commented on remotely as much as "tall". but I don't know what that means for people who are on the border at 5'9-5'10. you should go with what makes the most sense to you, you know yourself best :)

    This whole concept seems overly fussy and makes coming up with outfit ideas unnecessarily restrictive. No idea why this is being dredged up from the 80s. It also doesn't make much sense: both Marylin and kate Moss have a hourglass shape (it's about the with of hips and shoulders towards the rest of the body), so I don't see why Kate Moss would be categorized as angular ("Yang") and Marylin as a "Yin". Keira Knightley is a pear shape, she's also not "angular" all over.
    People should just have fun with fashion and not worry about pointless body type systems.
