    At the time of releasing this video, Rebels concluded almost exactly 5.5 years ago, because that is not an engaging video title, I rounded up to 6 years later

      This is probably gonna be one of those videos people are watching for years to come anyway, the title will be obsolete almost as soon as it's accurate.
      Plus, I mean, you didn't specify exactly what point in the series was 6 years ago... so... *ahem* "what I told you was true, from a certain point of view"

      @fofonablus7104 How?
      Sorry that this will come off as aggressive, but while Gold tries to explain it, it's clearly to keep that crowd happy, as he contradicts himself at 23:28 admitting the Jedi are selfless. It can't be both. Things that happen between Ezra and Kanan such as a close master apprentice relationship and working through emotions are common place. Just because Obi wan struggled to doesn't mean it never happened.
      In CW, a hand full of people perceive the Jedi negatively at the start of an episode, the Jedi pretend to not have an answer, and they just never explain or conclude that issue. It's no deeper than Obi wan's random complaints about politicians. And this is a recurring problem in CW's "themes".
      Plus, it ignores other *canon* lore like the existence of the Med Corps, the Agri Corps, the Exploration Corps, and Edu Corps which the Jedi established to heal impoverished systems. As well as disregarding Lucas's intent -- and no, Lucas helping with CW doesn't justify a retcon. He changes his mind all the time, and usually for the worst-- disregarding Lucas's intent for the Jedi's purpose and existence. And interpretating the CW portrayal as corruption is a stretch (unless our definitions are different).
      Making the jedi slothy old men ends up adding nothing and teaching nothing, besides paying lip service to real world western criticism of specifically western religions, which the jedi are NOTHING like* .

    • @othervids3726
      @othervids3726 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Honestly yeah. I remember thinking that Ezra and Kanan embodied what the Jedi should’ve been. They both succeeded not because of how powerful they were with the force or as duelists. No, they lost on those fronts, and rightfully so. It was how deeply connected they were to the force and their emotions, Kanan’s love for Hera and the Ghost Crew and Ezra’s love for them along with Lothal is what saved the planet and defeated Thrawn. They respected the Force and it was their ally to the end.

    • @ThreadBareHope1234
      @ThreadBareHope1234 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@othervids3726Ezra's and Kanan's closeness is good, and was common place among the Jedi. We only get glimpses and inferences in the movies bcoz Lucas had other priorities, but in works by those that loved *and understood* Lucas's story, we will see that they have connection with other Jedi. The Jedi Order was just as much a community as it was a disciplined way of life. (As a matter of fact, if we compare jedi to real religions as much as we do, we may as well be honest about the community aspect). To give only two examples, the bond between master and student or between peers -- the latter we see little of besides in CW (ironic, sense CW writers also reimagine the Jedi in some aspects for their own messages) --.

    Then we learned Ashoka was dead. I was sad. She was my all time favorite character of whole cinema/tv shows. Season 3 was good, but then season 4…. World Between Worlds… Ahsoka is alive! Is saved! My mounth was wide open. I got goosebumps…. That was hardhitting. The season 4 final was great! Ezra and Thrawn were also fantastic! I found a quote that fits Kanan, Jyn, Cassian and other that sacrifice themselves for a chance of victory. "That hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith. Ain't that a bitch."

    Red vs Blue Season 13 taught me that a hero sacrifices themselves based purely on faith. Their faith in their allies to achieve victory leads them to selflessly give their life, they'd never know if it was really worth it. _"Ain't that a bitch?"_ -Epsilon
    Honestly, Kanan's death didn't hit first-time around but I was a Rebels fan. I came back around during the lockdown and let loose the flood gates. Kanan and Ezra are my ideas of True Jedi. I'd love for Ezra to be alive, but I'm more okay with him dying. I know Thrawn's a popular character but having Thrawn dying to something he couldn't predict would be great, better than the Imperial Officers' Incompetency or Bendu.

      @thegoldman25 it's completely tonally inconsistent. You can't show Luminara's corpse; Ezra forcing a walker shoot on its own men; Thrawn forcing a rebel worker to commit suicide: but then have Ezra and Kanan - 2 supposed JEDI - get locked down consistently by 5 stormtroopers who couldn't hit a target if they were aiming point blank. The Empire is fucking useless, until Thrawn takes control in season 3 and actually destroys their base at the end.
      Ezra is a fucking boring. The only reason he's good is because of Darth Maul. I don't care about his parents. I don't care about Lothal. His trim from season 3 is shit. Although he had a really cool lightsaber hilt - but one that completely defeats the point of a Jedi, who use their lightsabers because of the delicate skill and patience used to control one. Blasters are the exact opposite. Obi-Wan tells this to Anakin in a comic.
      Kanan is more of a Jedi but neither him nor Ezra are Jedi. Nothing like Luke, who even in his solitude in TLJ was more of a Jedi. Kanan's death was cool but you saw it from a fucking mile away. Kanan and Hera is cool but I find it funny how in season 4 there's a whole part about Kanan trying to get a kiss from Hera, who is trying to be objective. But then in the time skip after ROTJ she somehow has Kanan's child?!?! It's a kid show so you cant imply that they fucked but it went from Kanan securing one kiss to somehow getting her pregnant 💀💀
      Kanan and Sabine are cool. The rest of the characters are mid.
      You miss that in season 4 the two villains are a grey monkey. THAT SHOULD HAVE DIED 3 TIMES - the MOST IMPORTANT when Zeb is about to kill him but Sabine stops him because its a kid show and sprays him with paint and then sends him back to the fucking enemy base 💀💀💀
      And also a shit governor that literally nobody finds threatening.
      Thrawn is the best villain in the show. The inquisitors are also fucking useless. Vader is only there for Ahsoka's character. Vader after barely surviving the rebels in season 2 leaves and doesnt come back despite the rebels proving they're a threat???
      For some reason Sidious also turns up in season 4 to Ezra - I was so done with the fucking show that I couldnt be bothered to understand why he was there.
      The Loth wolf dumbass shit in season 4 is so dumb. Its such a corny plot device. So is the space between worlds or whatever. Ahsoka could have had a great ending if her death was ambiguously against Vader on Malachore.
      I felt fucking nothing when Ezra died. I was just glad this stupid show was over.
      I watched this entire show in 4 days. I felt like killing myself.

    Rebels is fantastic, a great show all around even season 1 being more “childish”. I think the legacy characters like Ashoka, Rex, Maul, Hondo, Obi-Wan and Yoda all serve a great purpose in helping the Ghost Crew. Rex also shows Kanan and Ezra how to be leaders and face fear/adversity. One of my favorite Rebels quote is from Rex when he’s talking to Ezra about Anakin and the Clone Wars, “a great Jedi once told me. The best leaders lead by example. You do that well.” The legacy characters all impart wisdom upon the Ghost Crew that helps them all grow throughout the show. Can’t say enough good things about Rebels.

    This is such an amazing analysis. I followed this show obsessively as it was airing, even if I was complaining about, like, half of it. (Ezra abandoning the dark side after 3 episodes in season 3 bothered me. Also, I felt Zeb completes his character arc in Legends of the Lasat and just spun his wheels for the rest of the show). But I'd actually never considered the idea that Yoda sent them to Malachor TO show Ezra the dangers of seeking conflict; to DETER him from trying to defeat the Sith. As a Middle Schooler, I just thought they dropped the ball on that plot point. But that makes sense. This was fantastic to watch and surprisingly nostalgic. After watching the Ahsoka series, it makes me want to watch Star Wars Rebels. I mean, I’ve only seen clips of that show, and I do like the characters from Rebels in other Star Wars media like Disney Infinity and the Bad Batch, but if Rebels is deep as Clone Wars and Ahsoka, I should totally watch it.
    Heck, maybe I should also watch Resistance if I was wrong about that and Rebels.
    Also: Feloni, buddy, I get that you wanted to show that Ezra and Sabine can have moments that aren’t romantic, but um… showing a scene where Sabine gives Ezra a holographic image of his dead parents on his birthday, a scene where Ezra conversely comforts Sabine about her family issues, a scene where Ezra and Sabine look eye to eye before he sacrifices himself, two scenes where Ezra sends a holographic message to Sabine where he talks passionately to her, and a scene where Sabine touches Ezra’s face in a mural… doesn’t scream platonic. I’m sorry, but if you’re gonna show romantic scenes, you have to at-least admit it.

      People dont like it because its bad. The empire is the most ridicolous ever (until Kenobi came around), even Thrawn is most of the time an incompetent buffon, there are zero stakes until the last episodes, the main characters are poorly written, 90% is filler and even the sequels have better worldbuilding. Together with the goofy lightsabers and humor, the censoring of deaths and the childish tone, its just not something many people enjoy.

    I‘m gonna say it, this show still sucks 6 years later. It had good ideas, but y‘all are ignoring the problems of the show because most of you are blinded by nostalgia.
    The worldbuilding is really bad and often times lazy, making the galaxy feel small. There are no stakes because the villains are incompetent idiots, even Vader and especially Thrawn. The plot is 80% of the time filler focussing on getting supplies, making it very boring to keep track. You can skip like 4 episodes and wont miss anything important.
    The biggest problem are the characters though. Every Chameo was more interesting than the main characters, which is because the half of them are underdeveloped and underused, especially Zeb. Ezra starts annoying and stays for half of the show, Chopper doesnt make sense as he literally tries to kill Ezra multiple times and Sabine is a bigger Mary Sue than Rey, resulting in everyone else becoming useless. The only well written characters are Kanan and Kallus.
    So all in all, Rebels was a show with amazing potential, but horrible execution.

    Once little tiny correction: I'm pretty sure that, in the aftermath of Kanan's death, when Hera says "I wish I told him sooner", I don't think she was referring to telling him she loved him. At least how I interpreted it, she wished she told Kanan she was *pregnant* sooner. Not only is it incredibly obvious that they both have feelings for eachother (especially during Season 4, but even far earlier than that), but I also swear I remember them saying "I love you" to eachother prior to Jedi Night. Because of that, I think its more likely Hera wanted to tell Kanan she was pregnant, which we as the viewer don't find out until the final scenes of the show.

    Animation is not the same as what I grew up on. I was Looney Toons and Tex Avery cartoons. I watched but wasn't a fan of the Hanna Barbera. G-Force was the only entry of Japanese anime. When cartoons started getting video gamey looking, I was well past showing interest.
    But I dove into Mandalorian and Boba Fett and well, reaction videos on TH-cam. I learned many folks grew up on Clone Wars and express how great it was. I figured, I'd make it a mission to give it a whirl before the Obi-Wan Kenobi series aired.
    So I started the Clone Wars.
    The thumbnail image of Rebels made me turn away from it at first. It looked very kiddish. Same with Resistance.
    However, by the time I got to Season 2 of Clone Wars, I decided to throw in a Rebels episode here and there.
    To my surprise, I got hooked on Rebels and dove completely into the show as I suspended my Clone Wars viewing.
    By the time Obi-wan Kenobi aired, I was done with Rebels and probably midway through Clone Wars Season 5. Of course, picking up the show with Maul, the Emperor, then Ahoska's trial, then Season 6, the final arcs in Clone Wars went by pretty quick. And they filled in the week long wait for the next Kenobi episodes.

    One thing you forgot to mention is that Sabine vs Gar Saxon ends with a mirror image of how Anakin vs Dooku ended with Sabine catching the Darksaber and almost killing Gar, Gar even tells Sabine to kill him just like how Palpatine told Anakin to Kill Dooku. The biggest difference is that while Anakin gave in and killed Dooku, Sabine sparred Gar only for her mother to kill him, kinda like that if Anakin didn’t kill Dooku then Palpatine was going to kill him himself

    Your channel is one of if not my favorite Star Wars channels. Great video my man! I came to Rebels late, like 2020 during covid lockdowns. I ended up binge watching the entire series. I completely fell in love with the series and characters. Thanks for doing another video on one of my favorite shows.

    I feel like you're a bit too apologetic with the show.
    Don't get me wrong, I don't think Rebels is the worst thing out there, but it's definitely a serious downgrade from clone wars and I hate the fact that it's such an important piece of media.
    Now, if it wasn't advertised as a sort of sequel to Clone Wars, it could have been a nice piece of media in the catalogue.
    However, the truth is, they were hoping to appease both a young audience and Clone Wars veterans, which was basically impossible.
    Clone wars audience grew up and the show did with them, it started telling darker stories and touching on deeper subjects. I feel that if rebels was made with the same philosophy, that is: "Mature with your audience", the show would have been Andor before Andor, touching on much darker subjects such as genocide, abuse and racism. The empire is said to be terrible, but up until Andor we haven't seen actual dark stuff show on screen, such as proper torture.
    The downgrade in quality also can't be excused by the show being a kid's show, as there are way better ones out there, such as Avatar, Adventure Time, heck, even some of the Looney Tunes.
    Again, it's not the worst, but it's definitely a tough pill to swallow.
    Again, it ain't the worst

    Was Rebels perfect? No
    Was it as good as Clone Wars? No
    But imo it did its job in bringing a lot of people into the franchise. I have a friend who watched rebels before Clone Wars and she loves it. I watched most of Rebels before Clone Wars and enjoyed it and while I finished Clone Wars later on and saw it as superior I just think for the events that happened outside the creators control such as the lesser budget it was good.

      One perspective I saw elsewhere…that I personally agree with but not everyone might…The Clone Wars had higher highs, but also some really low lows. Rebels may not hit as high as some arcs from The Clone Wars, but I think its low moments aren’t quite as bad as TCW, giving a more consistent feel across the whole show.

    • @VNM-Venom252
      @VNM-Venom252 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidbeer5015 Yea Rebels at least knew what it was and kept to that feel I think for the most part. Clone Wars could have really good, dark, and mature stories that have a place among the greats of the franchise while then having an arc like the martez sister arc which really felt redundant and repetitive while watching it.

    Rebels is pretty boring . Storm troopers were losing there uniforms left and right and the space whales were very strange. And also the spinning lightsabers that the user could fly ?? Sabine was nice actually, space alladin was dumb, mandalorian queen/possible jedi/ former imperial inventor/ artist was annoying. The robot and owl looking guy were a waste of screen time

    Don't ever sleep on the animated star wars shows. I really like the ghost crew because they remind me of my family.
    especially Kanan and Hera who remind me a lot of my parents
    and Kanan and Ezra remind me a lot of me and my dad!

    Interesting thing is when people ask how they had a kid when they hadn't said I love you. Sad thing though, this is very much possible in reality. It is possible to procreate without saying I love you first. People who have asked, well, I'm happy for you for not having to endure such a problem in your life.

    I do have to say, kanan, quoting to do or do not line I think shows a drastic contrast between the Jedi of that era, and how he is different from them, he admits that he doesn’t know what it means, and I think that is a big thing because he’s not blinded by dogma or pride like the Jedi he grew up with where, and by the end of it, he learns the true meaning of do or do not

    I remember watching this for the first time as it came out. I really enjoyed it and never held the Clone Wars cancelation against it. I cried like a child when Kanin died. One of my favorite scenes with Hera was when she was chastising her father and her voice broke into her native accent. It really showed how emotional she was. I loved the character development everyone received. Even Agent Callis got development. I recently rewatched the whole series. Still enjoyed it

    I still strongly disdain how rebels was handled man. Art was some how more hit or miss than the clone wars, which yeah.... but the dramatic nerf they did with some of the story and characters kinda just, pained me. Especially with the Empire. I get it, it's still a kids show, but show was Clone Wars, make stormtroopers actually threatening somewhat. But what really annoyed me, even when I was watching the show, was Ezra. God I hate Ezra just Ahsoka, if she never aged based season 1.
