  • The Siege of Mandalore was the Final Arc of Star Wars The Clone Wars. Many people waited years for Star Wars The Clone Wars to get it's proper finale, and The Siege of Mandalore. I would go as far to say the Siege of Mandalore was a Cinematic Masterpiece. We get amazing things in this arc, like Ahsoka's landing, Ahsoka vs Maul, Ahsoka Order 66, and darth vader in the clone wars! In this video, i discuss The Siege of Mandalore... 3 Years Later

It's wild to think we spent 7 seasons with these characters only for everything to end with... Nothing. All that war. All the adventures. All the characters. All for a man to continue his plans and... No one wins. Separatists lose. The Republic loses. All for nothing.

One thing I you missed was the weight of Jesse in particular. While he hasn't had as much screen time as Rex, he's been around since the early days of the show, at least as far back as the episode Rex gets injured by a sniper. We've seen Rex change over time but for those who remember, Jesse is a part of the more fun early days of the show, and now he is in command of the darkest and most dreadful battle the series will ever see.

This arc is one of, if not, the greatest piece of Star Wars content ever made. The amount of love and effort put into ending a story and show I grew up with was done perfectly and it never fails to make me happy and give me goosebumps. @@thegoldman25 I am sorry but I don't see how. I mean have you compared to other stories? Many stories were written better, than this. This season 7 was just about "every jedi even Yoda and Obi-Wan are trash, except Ahsoka, because Ahsoka is perfect." The way as Ahsoka was playing with Maul was ridiculous. Maul never seem weaker than this. And this was not good. Shortly the was like this: Ahsoka chased Maul, then capture him. Then Ahsoka release Maul so she could chase him again!!! This was so dumb, I cant find the words. And remember when Ahsoka had that argument wiht Obi-Wan. "You gonna abandon BO Katan and her people" Ashoka suggested that Obi -Wan doesn't want to stop Maul, his archenemy, and he doesn't want to free his former love, Satin's planet from Maul. Once again: This was so dumb, that I can't find the words. 😒

@@balazsillyes7639 i’m not gonna waste my time dissecting your entire essay here, but i do want to point out one particular thing. maul being “weak” in this arc is just ignorant. if you truly think that then you must have just watched the show in the background while doing something else instead of actually taking in the story. maul is incredibly powerful, maybe one of the most powerful force users in established canon. but he has one huge flaw in his personality that proves to be his downfall consistently. his arrogance is what prevents him from accomplishing his goals, and in typical narcissistic fashion he doesn’t learn from it. phantom menace? his cockiness gets him cut in half. rebels? his cockiness gets him killed by obi wan. there’s other examples too, but the point is this is no different. if you actually pay attention to maul and ahsoka’s duel, you’d notice that maul has the upper hand for most of the fight. at the culmination of the fight in the rafters, he has ahsoka dead to rights, but his arrogance and cockiness lets ahsoka take advantage of him and turn the tables, capturing him. if he took the easy win, ahsoka would be dead and maul would have escaped. but his arrogance gets the best of him and it costs him the fight, as is a consistent and well-executed theme of his character.

When Rex makes his argument, Jesse lowers his guns and thinks to himself, but just as fast brings them back up, and accuses Rex of treason. I love the moment when Rex tells Ahsoka that the clones have been ordered to execute every Jedi Knight. The full phrase "Jedi Knight" is used so rarely in this show and at this point in the timeline in general that it stands out. We are more typically familiar with hearing the Jedi referred to as Masters or Generals in the show. Rex reminds us of their origins as Knights in the same sentence that he foretells their doom.

Imo, they were always knights. They always fit in that architype that lives for, strives for, and fights for something bigger than themselves. They always had the galaxies safety and eventual harmony as their priority, either on an individual level or in a large scale battle. Sure, the clone wars was a distraction, and Palpatine's way of spreading out the Jedi, but they had the best intentions, and did seek/teach truth, (even if they were mortal and weren't perfect), in my opinion.
Ahsoka was by no means "calling out" Obi Wan but it was written to look that way. Sorry to pop off, but idk what happened to Ahsoka this season, it just felt like another "be better" session with strong wahman. Obi knew that Coruscant had a big population, and saving lives is not playing politics. Because they're allied with the Republic it only makes sense they didn't want to go on a random crusade on a planet that isn't in present danger.
The Jedi were blind and arrogant in Filoni's retelling of these events, not in the prequels.
I wish people would pay attention to what is in front of them (Revenge of the Sith, the OT).
Whatever Filoni is trying to convey about the Jedi in those last seasons was not what they were meant to be. The Jedi were good, even if they are mere mortals and mistake prone.
This explains the intended vision we didn't see in Revenge of the Sith: a novel review with s*** audio

And not just the injustice but how easily anyone can be discarded. The clones were the true reason and means of which Palpatine achieved his goal. They were instrumental in keeping the Jedi and Galaxy mired in busy work and then as executioners and finally as a Galactic wide police force until he could get the Imperial Army and Navy up and running. And for their sacrifice, they are forgotten. And even for those heroic deeds and sacrifices during the clone wars, turning on the jedi and stomping hard on the galaxy is their only legacy. Its heartbreaking.

i think the idea was, they didn’t believe it could be Palpatine, they’d known him so long and it just didn’t seem like a sith could gain high office and be amongst top Jedi and not be detected. so the suspicion about Palpatine from the Jedi i think was meant to be that someone around him was the Sith rather than him. Part of that seems to have been about where the Jedi had become complacent and sometimes overconfident, most obviously for the padawans who died in the series, but also the council.

Regarding your comment at 3:02, I totally agree. For me, it was an interesting predicament as a Star Wars fan who already saw Rebels and knew the eventual fates of Ahsoka, Rex, and Maul; however, I still remember being beyond satisfied when I watched the Seige of Mandalore arc for the first time. It was that missing piece of the story that I always wanted to see. When I introduced my wife to Star Wars last year and we got to the end of the Clone Wars, it was fun to vicariously experience The Siege of Mandalore with her as she didn't know what would happen to these characters. Currently, she is now caught up in watching every movie and show (even had her play Fallen Order), and she stands by the opinion that Clone Wars is the best part of Star Wars, and I believe that viewing it for the first time without seeing Rebels or Mandalorian first really enhanced her first experience of the Star Wars story.
Anyway, the only movie series I could think of that has come close to this predicament was in the MCU when the Spiderman No Way Home teaser trailer came out like four months before the theatrical release of Avengers Endgame. Spiderman being blipped away was a huge moment, and to see him totally fine in teaser trailer that came out before Endgame's release was a bit odd to me. I understand that they needed to sell the tickets and advertise for the film, but I knew that Spiderman was going to walk out of Endgame totally fine because of that.

The title of the finale alone, “Victory and Death” gives me chills every time. It’s such a beautifully concise way to describe the way the war ended. The war resulted in a Republic/Empire victory, and everyone is dead. The way it’s so close to phrases like “victory OR death” or the concept of victory BUT the heroes die, the clone wars were “won” BECAUSE all the heroes died. The genocide of the Jedi and the Republic/Empire defeating its enemies and seizing control over the galaxy aren’t two independent events that happened to occur at the same time. They were the SAME event. Victory AND death.

Great video, but one bit I noticed you didn't touch on is the call-back to the clone wars movie: When Ahsoka is telling Rex she technically outranks him and he says experience and respect outranks everything, and then in this episode when Rex (and all the clones really) outranks her and yet he (and all the clones) still address her as Sir & Ma'am, showing respect and seniority. It's a great arc with lots of call-backs the great series. I just wish Jesse got some justice in the end. Seeing his helmet on a stick genuinely made me cry. It's the only show, and one of the only media (shows, movies, books) that has made me cry for a character like that. The Siege of Mandalore ranks among one of my top favorite TV finales. It’s a masterpiece!
If I had to write a top 5, I’d say:
    1. DS9: What You Leave Behind.
    2. TNG: All Good Things.
    3. SoM.
    4. ATLA: Sozin’s Comet.
    5. Breaking Bad: Felina/El Camino.
    Awesome review!

I love how Asoka says I’m not going to be the one to kill them then promptly goes and releases Darth Maul to bring down the entire space station killing every clone on board

This video, shows the final season of SWTCL so much justice. Excellently written. Amazing choice of background music and pauses. Great essay.

After watching the clone wars and still watching bad batch it makes vaders sacrifice more impactful to me since not only did he save his son but avenged all of the Jedi, clones and friends that all died by his side when killing palpatine

There were a few commanders that received a special order from Sidous. Rex was one of them because of how important Sidous felt it would be that ahsoka was killed. So when he received that message from sidous much like commander Cody he was talking directly to him and he wasn’t just sent some gif the he recorded

Love the video! Just a small note- I believe the first “mind probe” uses were (I believe) in clone wars.
Anakin, Windu and Obi wan were doing it on Cad Bane, Nute Gunray and maybe even Poggle.
That would’ve been *before* Kylo or Snoke.

The final arc of Clone Wars season 7 affected me like no other piece of media has ever before and since. I strive to try and create something that even comes close to making other people feel how I felt watching that show.
Absolute pinnacle of star wars media imo.

You forgot to mention that at the end, when Vader looks up in the sky, you can see Morai

The music. The action. The symbolism. The everything of the last six minutes of the last episode, not to mention the entire Siege of Mandalore storyline, was just heartbreaking and fantastic at the same time. Not sure it could have been done any better. And to top it off it came at a time when we really needed to take our minds off what was happening it the real world.

I always thought that the clones always thought of Ahsoka as a commander/Jedi even after she left so therefore that's why they hunted her down. They saw her as there commander and a Jedi! ♥️

This is one of those arcs that i can watch over and over again and never get bored of it, its just peek star wars in my opinion. It combined everyhing we love about the Clone Wars and put it in almost like a movie format on screen. Its just perfect, no other words for it.
Also the video is just amazing I watched it like 6 times already and for good reason, keep up the good work man!

I remember where I was when I first found out. I was just a teenager sitting on my couch when I saw google Advertising the 7th season. I screamed to my brothers, and it was a moment of true bliss. I'll never forget that moment.
