@@thegoldman25at least he gave the vibe that he was plotting something. People standing still and deep thinking is fine if done right; the women on the show just came off as killing screen time so they can stretch a 2 hour movie into a tv series
Honestly, I really agree with both how your rewrite improved and what was really lacking, but there is 1 returning character that handled perfectly that you didn't mention Chopper was his usual chaotic droid who knew who his family was, and the fact that he was the 1st to recognize ezra is there is so wholesome and cute
I get the criticism about the show relying on you watching CW and rebels but on the other hand it feels like a reward for all of us who have watched the animated shows
Honestly? With the Acolyte being what it was, I am way less critical of the Ahsoka series than I was at the time. I still have issues with certain choices, but that show was clearly made by people who loved Star Wars and wanted to bring their A game, and by people who felt it was an honor to be a part of a project as opposed to people who thought that Star Wars wasn't that good and needed to be fixed I didn't previously take this into consideration when evaluating a show, but man does it matter now
So you are basically telling us that you've lowered your standards because of the Acolyte 🤔. Also; a turd is a turd no matter how much love people put into it. I wanted to love this show but I have too many issues with it; it has a nonsensical plot, unlikable protagonists (Sabine) and a lot of characters acting out of character for plot convenience. I haven't watched the Patterson-Edit yet but I've heard and glimsed great things from it so I might give that a try.
It was Filloni's first live action debut. Ppl dont give that consideration. He'll learn, the show will get better, and the first season proves he has what it takes to make Star Wars good again
Usually when shows are supposed to get better they get worse especially when it comes to Star Wars. This shows just doesn't have substance. It looks cool but the fighting, the plot and the characters are all like unseasoned chicken. Just bland and tasteless
Ahsoka was my favorite of all the shows. Had a smile on my face the whole time watching. It has it's problems like ALL Star Wars shows but the good outweighs the bad. This show was the 3rd Star Wars show to get me teary-eyed or cry. First was Clone Wars and second was Mando S2. This show felt important to the overall narrative of the "Mandoverse" and it didn't fell like a movie turned into a show. Plus the soundtrack was 10000/10. Can't wait for season 2.
I hadn't watched Rebels and Clone War before I watched Ahsoka. I did know that the shows existed and that they were probably prerequisites to this one, but aside from a vague idea of who Ahsoka was I had no information. And I loved it! I loved the show, I thought it was great and that it did a lot of good things and the lack of context didn't hinder my appreciation at all. But after that I watched Clone Wars and Rebels which were both fantastic, and then I rewatched Ahsoka. And THEN I realized just how the context was needed for some plot points and ESPECIALLY the emotional aspect of the show, along with how some stuff like exposition or Sabine and Ahsoka's past relationship was handled poorly, or at least could have been done better. But I still think the show is great though. And I still had a great time watching it standalone and falling in love with characters I didn't know anything about despite the lack of context.
I really loved this show. Ahsoka was my favorite Star Wars character after having grown up with the Clone Wars and Rebels. My brother and I sat down to watch each episode when they dropped and it was the most fun I have had with Star Wars in a while. The other shows, other than Andor and some of Mando, haven't done much for me. Seeing Ahsoka back on screen and also wrapping up some plot points of Rebels was just a blast to watch.
@@thegoldman25I liked rebels just fine for the most part. I hated Ezra for the first couple seasons, season 3 and 4 he turned out great. And he's awesome in live action. The actor that plays him does a great job. I was happy with how they continued them too! Thrawn was a little iffy but he was mostly done pretty good!
I'm still very critical of what they did with Sabine Her using the force nether works in character nor in universe Also Sabine hiding the truth from Ezra really infuriates me. This maybe a tangent but alot of these recent Disney projects many female characters like Sabine, Hera, Holdo, and more recently Vernestra Roe make decisions that get numerous people killed with no consequences or glossed over.
@@pbh9195 I think Sabine using the Force works within the universe. Kanan Jarus said "the force resides in all living beings but you have to be open to it". In a sense, everyone and everything is connected through the Force. Once Sabine opened her connection, she could use it. However dude her extremely weak connection she could barely do the basics. Obviously she can refine her connection. Unlike someone like Anakin who had a high potential but never refined his abilities so he was actually weaker in a lot of ways. Thus explaining the whole M Count thing Jedi did. You had to have a certain amount or above that to be excepted into the Order. I'll agree with that her using the Force doesn't add to her character apart from some plot stuff.
This video gives me vindication, and relief. Thank you for the Ahsoka/Anakin stuff particularly. I had _No_ idea what Ahsoka was supposed to have learned, which tainted the hope and happiness of the Purgill scene. The idea that Ahsoka was _wanting_ to die didn't feel like it was in her character, so it didn't take hold as an idea for me. That was especially not hinted at until "Live or die".
There are plenty of fair criticisms of this show, but I don’t believe that having to watch other shows to understand what’s going on is one of them for a multiple reasons. The first is that Ahsoka is an established character with plenty of rich backstory. Without the other shows, she doesn’t get her own standalone show. The second is that what is the point of a connected universe if you can’t, you know, connect them through various shows and movies? It’s what we used to love about Marvel but now feels like an easy way to bring shows down. I felt rewarded for having watched CW and Rebels
Sometimes it's good for a project to be a jumping on point and sometimes it isn't. Witcher 3 is an excellent jump on, Mass Effect 3 is not even though they designed it to be. The end of that trilogy is not a place for newcomers! Ahsoka needed a lot of work to fix it but I think designing it for new people isn't the right call unlike Mando which is a separate thing. It's a star wars show afterall, it's made for star wars people not randomers with no investment.
While I (partially) agree with you, the example of CW/Rebels is the perfect counterexample. While Rebels was more enjoyable for having first watched Clone Wars, it wasn't necessary. The entire first season of Rebels almost entirely sets up the show without tying in other Star Wars properties, even while still being clearly in the Star Wars universe. It's not until the later seasons where clone wars stuff is really brought in, and even then, they're introduced in a way that explains who they are to anyone who hadn't watched Clone wars. It was never expected or relied on that audiences had watched Clone Wars first. Arcane is another example with the same thing. The creators put in details and characters that made the story richer if you'd played LOL, but they always treated the show as if most people had never even heard of League.
9:53 I completely agree with you on. Plus what they should have done, is show us the final battle from sabine and hera's pov. So Thrawn's return would still have the same impact.
Was the series flawed? Yes. However, I found myself really enjoying it. Was a bit disappointed that neither Zeb nor Rex appeared. I think the series would've benefited if it had started from where we last saw Ahsoka in Rebels on Malachor and show the beginning on her training Sabine instead of having the first try offscreen.
One aspect of this review that I like is how everything is discussed in a constructive way. When discussing Filoni’s flaws as a writer it’s not “he’s bad at this”, it’s instead framed as “this is something he could improve on” which makes the video feel less pessimistic and more like an optimistic fan wanting the franchise to be better
One of my issues with Thrawn is that there's a fine line between valuing your troops' lives and being rather complacent. A good example of this is the TIE fighter sequence. Yes, I understand the goal was to delay them, but even if we say that TIE fighters are worse in atmosphere than in space, a TIE fighter vs someone who can't fly is a major advantage. I don't buy the argument that killing Ahsoka and the others wouldn't have fit with his plan of returning home. As you say, he knows that Jedi are unpredictable. If you can (almost) guarantee their deaths by TIE fighter, then that removes them from the randomness equation. If (in the head canon) we say that Thrawn was afraid that Ahsoka would summon the hyperspace whales, why wouldn't he be afraid to leave her there? If he thinks she can just summon hyperspace whales to get back home, then he definitely needs to kill her here and now. Cause here's the thing: when Ahsoka + company inevitably return and stop Thrawn, we'll point to the scene where Thrawn could have killed them with TIE fighters and ask, "Why didn't he use more TIE fighters to stop them when he had the chance?" I'll even throw in the head canon solution: The TIE fighters were in such poor repair that he either had only a few TIE fighters in flight condition, or he reasoned that he needed a minimum number to protect the ship when it returned to the galaxy.
26:00 The question that we don’t get answered is not: why does Ahsoka choose to take Sabine back as a padawan? The question is: why did Ahsoka _ever_ started teaching Sabine in the first place? Even those of us who have watched, and re-watched The Clone Wars and Rebels, never saw any indication that (1) Sabine had any desire to want to be a Jedi or (2) that Sabine had any particular connection with The Force.
27:38 @thegoldman25 should feel the need to apologize for liking these fights. The fights in this episode are well set up, well choreographed, have a legit ticking clock, and have actual stakes.
This came out when I first moved into the dorms in my first year of college. It was the only thing I could look forward to weekly to unwind and watch something. That being said, with so much potential, it was a let down in my opinion.
You know what wouldve been cooler. If the Sith girl slashed Sabine and we saw it from the back thinking damn she died. Then they do a frodo from Lotr and her Beskar armour protected her. She is stunned from the force of the attack but not dead. We saw something similar in the 2nd season of Mando where each hit from the darksaber clearly had force behind it pushing him back even though it hit the beskar. Itd be a cooler fakeout, it would explore Beskar, a material audiences are familiar with, and show how tough the sith girl is that she can knock out someone in Beskar. Then she realises oh the girl is alive and Baylan explains Mandalorians often wear Beskar that they often paint and it tougher against lightsaber attacks, to aim for the points between armour next time. Then maybe when he fights Sabine, we show his strength as he shattered her breastplate. She is shocked and he explains some forcewielders csn use the force to shatter even the strongest of materials (it was a force power called shatterpoint). It would also just show how powerful Baylan Schol is compared to even Ahsoka, that he knows this powerful force power and would bring back stakes in a fight with beskar, which is good against most jedi and sith but not the toughest
Good analysis. I do agree with you with one HUGE thing when it comes to TV Shows in the streaming world. The gap between seasons. There is too many gaps between seasons these days and it is. unacceptable. Once upon a time it was every year and as time went along 2 years then 3 years. How much longer per season. Perhaps instead of them producing multiple shows that they should focus on just one that goes year to year. That might help with both consistently and quality.
Watching this helpful revisitation of Ahsoka has cemented it for me: the story “Last Known Trajectory” is what really happened to Ezra and Thrawn after Rebels, not this pablum from Feloni. Imagine: someone working on their own, for whom English is a second language, writes a novel-length fanfic anyone can read - for free - that’s 20 times more engaging and satisfying than what Disney, with all those resources, can even begin to muster. Ezra and Thrawn forced to work together to survive…I’ll think I’ll just go read it again. p.s. Ahsoka might also have been better if it had actually been mostly about Ahsoka.
Yeah, having thought about this exact story since the Rebels finale the choices made are just so disappointing, and the characters feel only tangentially connected to their infinitely superior animated selves. Of all the ways to write Ezra and Thrawn isolated in a distant galaxy Filoni chose the most boring choice by far, Ezra is just... the same and hanging out right outside the Chimera
Honestly I think I can say. That Ahsoka was a flawed yet enjoyable show. It didn’t have an embarrassing bad episode. Like the Obi Wan show did with episode 4. Its problems weren’t as extensive. Like The Book of Boba Fett or The Acolyte. To the point where almost the entirety of the show was either terrible or underwhelming. Yet the show was never able to reach the highs of The Mandalorian or Andor.
I absolutely adore this show. I feel like it would have been better with more episodes, but I think people over analyze its flaws and ignore its many strengths
I think people are poking at extremely small and irrelevant flaws like “why are they crossing their arms” or “why are they standing like this” or other stuff it does have some proper flaws but I think it’s a good show and has more good than bad
I loved Ahsoka man. Cant wait for season 2. Its gunna drop some seismic charges imo. But I agree with your points tho. It would have been better juxtaposed by marketing it as Rebels season 5
After the disaster, that was the acolyte, I’ve gained of far more appreciation for ahoska even though I already liked the show yeah it may have its flaws but it’s still fun and entertaining despite its flaws
It’s not perfect but overall the show was good and I had an amazing time with it. I feel like the issues can easily be solved with season 2. They have a good story and great characters and a great creative team.
Great breakdown! The best thing I can say about Ahsoka is that I enjoyed parts of the show enough that I still think about it on occasion. It's in that 5-6/10 range for me. Episode 4 in particular was rock-solid space opera goodness. Ahsoka had elements that really worked and stuff that fell flat. The weak finale put a damper on the rest of the show in retrospect, but it's not unsalvageable. It's no disaster like The Acolyte, Obi-wan, Mando S3, or Book of Boba Fett, nor is it brilliant 10/10 art like Andor.
If you told me when i first heard that Snips was getting her own show that i wouldn't finish it, I would never believe it. I stopped watching when the episode ended with Ahsoka (and Sabine? I dont remember) jumping into hyperspace to go to the unknown regions and Hera stays behind. The Ghost, Ezra's home, just sits there while a mass produced jedi ship gets to make the jump. Hera, who's journey started and rebels and could be perfectly bookended here. Kanan asked her when she would finally feel like she's done enough for the rebellion. Hera, who one could argue was married to the rebellion and oftej only after its needs were met did she turn to get family, could've now said enough and picked her family first. Kanan was always second, but after he died Hera questioned if joining the rebellion was even worth it. Now, the republic doesn't really need her, she could choose to finally cast it off and go after the family her and Kanan grew together. Instead, she watches them go. And like, yeah it's not Hera's show. But it could be. I am hard pressed to believe that this is the best idea they had for Ahsoka's first show. Change a couple of lines in the Mandolorian and let her do something that fits her better. They created this connection between Ahsoka and Thrawn when one already existed between Hera and him. This show feels like it wants to be an ahsoka show, but it gets distracted by Rebels stuff. So instead of a great Ahsoka show and a great Rebels Reunion, we got a subpar version of both.
I live this idea. And I definitely love the show as it is, warts and all. A Hera, rebels season 5 would have been a better place to to tell the Ezra/Thrawn/Ghost crew story
But honestly I enjoyed, it was really, really fun. I loved it so much. I rewatched it recently and it was still so good and I loved it. I gave it a nine out of ten
I feel like most of this show’s problems really do come down to the fact that it’s not finished yet. I think once season 2 is out, we’ll feel a lot better about Ahsoka, but the insanely long wait between seasons is ludicrous when they leave off on a big cliffhanger like that.
I do not feel the same way. Were you satisfied with the rise of skywalker? Lucasfilm writers think very surface level about their projects and I have 0 faith in anything that comes from them.
Great analysis and rewite. I enjoy the kind of story analysis you do in this channel. I also enjoy doing a similar kind of rewriting that retains the structure and concepts of the actual shows but tries to fix them. I did a rewrite of Ahsoka on Quora. I stole two of your ideas, and came up with some similar ones independently. I stole your idea (from the video a year ago) to have a prologue to help audiences who didn't see Clone Wars and Rebels. I did it a little differently by showing Ahsoka fighting Vader, rescued by Ezra and then wandering the World between Worlds and seeing dream like visions of Ezra disappearing, Mandalore destroyed, Luke facing Vader, before emerging in Lothal near Sabine's tower. I also stole your idea that Hera actually losing her trial, and paying the price for going rogue. It's much better that way. I didn't use Anakin flashbacks, but I tried to accomplish the same thing by moving the Anakin training hologram to chapter three. Sabine uses it, and Ahsoka is angry about it. I completely agree with you that chapter five with the idea of Ahsoka feeling conflicted about being Anakin's Padawan should have been the key to the whole show. Essentially it's her throne room scene, where she, like Luke, faces Anakin, in order to becme a full Jedi. Yet I think Filoni had a great idea in this chaper, but then in all the other chapters he wanted Ahsoka to be a Qui-Gon-like serene Jedi master, and instead he got a rather unpleasant and emotionally distant character. So he kind of sabotaged his own good idea. I tried to show that in the first four chaptrers by having Ahsoka refuse to train Sabine, but not only because she is not sure of Sabine's emotional state, but also because she fears her own ability to teach. I also tried to show Sabine as this kind of aggresive warlike character rarther than a serene Jedi master. So I kind of ended up with a similiar version of chapter five. Anakin calls her a great warrior, but she rejects that title, and that'swhat enables her to finally accept the role of a Jedi and become one. I also struggled with Bayan and Shin. Great performance, but Baylan's enigmatic words are just too vague. I tried to make it clear from the begining that Baylan is helping Morgan because he wants a way to get to Peridea. And he does it because he thinks it has something better than the Jedi Order. I tried to show that Baylan feels Shin is a failure. That he tinks she is only interested in power and is not ready for the option he's seeking, and that's why he rejects her. But I'm not sure I was able to make this angle work. Anyway, I love this and other videoes. You offer a sensible analysis of Star Wars material at a time when everybody seems to be foaming in the mouth about it.
Maybe Anakin in the flashback told Ahsoka about a warrior who was really dangerous and almost killed him but helped him in the end, his name was Thrawn In the Cannon thats gow they met. It would work to show Thrawn as even someone Anakin thought was powerful
One defense of "required viewing" before watching Ahsoka is that Disney+ did have a section of handpicked episodes from TCW and Rebels under the header of "Ahsoka Essentials" (or something similar) when the series first came out for newcomers to get to know Ahsoka berore they watched the show
I'd imagine Sabine wouldn't be on talking terms with Bo-Katan anyway. Given how Bo-Katan would be responsible for the death of Sabine's family and all the other mandos who succumbed to the Night of A Thousand Tears.
I recently watched the Patterson Cut of Ahsoka and I enjoyed it so much better than the show itself. The show had so much potential and I just don’t think it did what it could have.
Honestly, the most fascinating part of the show for me was Baylan. I found him to be such an intriguing character in terms of what he could potentially bring to the greater mythos, and Ray Stevenson clearly brought his A-Game with the character. Honestly it reminded me of Adam Driver with Kylo Ren, where we only really have hints and allusions to his backstory in the films, but Driver's acting is what REALLY sells the character. I really hope they keep Baylan around and establish more of his story with Shin, because I feel like they have the potential to be some of the most unique villains in Star Wars. Otherwise, I think Ahsola is a show with a lot of really good ideas and I do hope a potential 2nd season addresses some of the issues this one had. As it stands though, I think its just okay.
Ray Stevenson was great in the role, but he's so criminally underwritten. There should never be a situation where by the end of the season the audience is unable to concretely define the new main villain's motivations, goals, etc. aside from the vaguest gestures
Ahsoka has the most potential of all the shows. It's unlikely, but they could really go all in on an Abeloth storyline and set up dave filonis movie, where luke comes into play
I really love the rewrite. It made me realize the show as presented was missing one of the core themes of star wars as the structure of the story. The theme of how we deal with the sins of our fathers. The theme becomes a central motivator for Luke Skywalker and it represents a central failure for anakin. Luke is motivated to save his father and redeem him. Anakin is seduced by Palpatine (father figure) and betrays his brother (Obi-Wan). Anakin was Ahsoka's father figure, and her struggle with that is core to what star wars should be about
The ahsoka show is my favorite live action Star Wars tv show. It had flaws, but the show is exactly the show that I was dreaming of ever since rebels season 4, and Dave Filoni is great at giving me the fan service I want. Eman Esfandi is a perfect Ezra, Baylan Skoll is one of the most interesting and mysterious characters I’ve ever seen, and seeing a live action Thrawn played by Lars Mikkelsen makes me all giddy. I can’t wait to see what Dave has cooking for season 2 and the mandoverse crossover movie.
As a diehard Rebels fan this is how I wish I felt about it. Eman is great, but having Ezra be literally the exact same person is by far the least interesting route to take him, & while Ray Stevenson was fantastic, they give Baylan literally nothing and, as much as I hate to say it, waste his performance because of a criminal amount of underwriting. Still, I'm glad a lot of people got a lot out of it, & I'm hoping season 2 deliers
Its way better than people say and think it is. Sure the ending was not the best but its still pretty good and the bail and shin stuff was just left for season 2. Not forgotten
We could have learnt of the details of why Ezra disappeared by having a hologram show that shows what happened. It could be done during the ceremony Sabine ditches at the start of the series
As someone who never really liked the prequel era, and never watched either Clone Wars or Rebels, I was hoping this would pull me in (like other shows like Kenobi did.) But it felt like I was dropped off in the middle of a story I didn't know, with characters I've never met, and I'm supposed to be up to speed on decades of backstory myself, rather than introduce and explain to me as a new viewer. Which is a shame. Seemed people liked it. I couldn't get past the first episode.
Even as somebody who watched clone wars and rebels growing up I can't empathize with that. I definitely feel like Sabine finding Ezra would've been a great story. And Ahsoka fighting against the nightsisters would've been a great story. But as somebody who loves these characters, the show tried to stretch itself too thin and disrespected both characters. It should've been two unrelated shows imo. Even I felt a little lost trying to figure out new character relationships they added in between shows.
Last week discovered through your Big Episode 9 Video. Currently inhaling every single star wars upload of you. Love your Content. it's amazing and improves my english skills! Thanks for your videos and greetings from a new, german mega fan of the gold man!😂🎉❤
I feel like the flash of seeing Vader would be more effective with Baylen. His stature and fighting style was very similar Vader's and that could show how she lost that battle. She became reckless and fearful. Also, Vader talked about Anakin as a separate person (of which Ahsoka had heard, this could work well with Baylen mocking Anakin.
The show is good, but there were some elements I didn’t like. I feel weird about Sabine being force sensitive, after her character in Rebels was already fleshed out. Also her surviving being stabbed in E1 was insane.
Sabine being force sensitive is so strange to me and it feels completely forced it also takes away from her fight with gar Saxon on mandalore. Before we knew she was force sensitive it was shown she was just a better/smarter fighter but if she was force sensitive you could argue that is why she won. it's probably my least favorite part of the show but i did enjoy it overall
@@tdring10681 Yeah I agree, it seemed completely out of nowhere. Plus they scrapped the whole thing of her being a weapons expert. She also only is able to use the force a few times in the season, yet in the finale crucially is able to boost Ezra to Thrawn's ship (if I remember correctly)
A very big issue I had with the show you didn't really mention was how they handled the return of thrawn and ezra First of all, nothing really happened to them in the decade they were gone. Yeah, ezra joined those aliens, thrawn got new paintjobs for his troopers and got the great mothers to help him (somehow, not sure if it was explained why), but so much more could have been done. Maybe thrawn and ezra would be forced to work together in order to survive. Maybe they discover in there some sort of threat that could put the star wars galaxy in danger. Maybe they find some sort of ancient secret or ezra discovers a new way to use the force. And of course it could be a bunch of other ideas I didn't mention. The point is that so much could have been done, but instead we are forced to believe that they were stuck in a stasis throughout all that time. Secondly, once they are actually found, the don't get to do much. With ezra, first of all his reunion with sabine feels very anticlimactic, like she hasn't seen him in over a decade, he is described as the only family she has left, and she risked the fate of the galaxy in order to save him, but when she actually finds him it feels they hug like friends who haven't seen each other in a few weeks, it should have been way more emotional. And after that ezra mentions that he doesn't need a lightsaber because he has the force, only to go on to use a blaster and next episode to use a lightsaber, so not really sure what was the deal with that. With thrawn, he doesn't get a chance to prove how smart he is and that he is someone that could rebuild the empire. I guess his plan makes enough sense, however he never gets the chance to do something really clever, mainly because he can always rely on the great mothers to do everything he needs. I guess we'll have to wait and see how smart he actually, even though we should have seen it in this show since we've waited long enough
I loved Clone Wars and Liked a lot of rebels, eventhough it made many side-characters extremely incompetent. But that was fine for what it was - a show directed at kids. I feel like the material they based Ahsoka on is much more suited for the kind of audience Andor was written for - which made all the cartoon-y moments feel a lot more noticeable in a bad way for me. Also, I feel like the story was alright, but could have been much much more. Its also not like there wasnt any (non-canon) source material for the plot they wanted to create, which fit the themes much better imo. Overall, it was a popcorn-comfort-tv series. And I personally had wished for a drama series with questionable morals for ahsoka and sabine, with more ezra and thrawn, and more competent side/background characters. that way, our protagonists and antagonists would have felt less lucky and more powerful, and the show would have more mystery, allowing for exciting rewatchs down the line, where now i dont really bother with that
Check out the Patterson cut. I enjoyed the show when it was released but there were so many small things that (when counted together) dragged it down. Patterson removed a lot of redundant footage and made everything just “gel” better together. It’s not perfect by any means but it is impressive what a single editor can do to improve a show. After seeing the Patterson cut, I can’t go back to the original show.
Disney really needs to draw from the fandom moving forward. This help should ideally come from some of the content creators who have legit skill and understanding about good story telling, and world building.
I think the biggest issue with this show is it just kinda expects you to know things, mainly from the animitmated shows, which while I love and watch them, for people who haven't seen them, AKA most people, this must be so confusing. I think they honestly should have had more flashbacks to the clone wars and rebles to better explain what is happening in this show and also better establish what is important for those of us who have seen everything
You talk about people who never watched clone wars being lost as a bad thing but In my opinion Star Wars should always be approached as if people know the lore that’s why I love Star Wars for the depth it has similar to game of thrones
It was such a poorly written, directed, and edited show. Character motivations made no sense. We never got a flashback for Ahsoka taking Sabine on as an apprentice, no flashback of Sabine blaming Ahsoka for not being there during the destruction of Mandalore. Everyone was acting so stoic, emotionless, borderline catatonic. Like, no one was expressing emotion like human beings express emotions. Rosario looked SO beautiful as Ahsoka, but like that was it for me tbh.
I really liked the new season of Rebels, the jump to live action was so perfect. Less episodes but really enjoyable and deep in the lore ❤ it was built from the ground up for the hardcore fans.
We watched this show as a friend group and one of us didn't know much about Star Wars at that point, so after about half the season I asked him what he thinks happened between Ahsoka and Sabine and he was like "They dated, right?" Their backstory with each other was so poorly explained, it does not make any sense if you haven't watched literal hours of content previously
Tbh… I had to watch this video twice to really think about each episode and your rewrite of each one. And to be Frank, I agree. As much of the flaws this series had, you literally made it much better. However, also tbh I agree with the post credit scene but I would have kept the ending credit scene with Saben & Asoka along with Anakin showing the possible future for SW like what if Anakin is not just to help Asoka but to be the “Next father of the force” since he is the “chosen one”. I honestly don’t wanna give the Acolyte any spotlight with their BS of creating life with the force which takes away anything special of Anakin
While I don’t disagree that Ahsoka’s arc isnt perfect, I still think it was done very well. The thing is, Ahsoka’s character flaw in this series has nothing to do with the events of the series itself. It was always about Anakin. Her failing to save him, and her fear that because he fell, she and other force users could and would fall too. Her flaw was set up in Mando and BoBF, where she advices Mando to abandon Grogu. She has fallen i to the same trapping as the Jedi of old, forbidding attachment rather than learning how to deal with those emotions in a healthy way. Ahsoka giving up because Baylan has the map doesn’t make sense. Sure Thrawn coming back is bad, but that’s nothing compared to the time when Sidious was alive and well. Why would she give up against a situation that’s objectively still better than the age of the Empire.
5:14 Not a big fan of this show but in it's defense, this was not made for the casual fans and in Star Wars, if you didn't watch it in chronological order the content is almost always going to confuse you, Star Wars often expects you to do some homework.
I do want to point out, that the reason sneitor zeno is such a dick is that in the animated series star wars resistance (hes the main characters father) and a few of the books, hes implied to be a first order sympathizer working against the new republic and resictance. And hera is such a jerk to him cause she knows this. However youd only know this if youve read said books and watched the show.
it would be really cool to have a story about a force sensitive kid growing up in the outer rim and then their parents die or there is some kind of catalyst for the change (kid unlocks force) some under world group catches wind and tries to kill them/use them for jobs n stuff then jedi get involved or somethin idk. could be a really cool story. now im thinking of it kind of like a better acolyte...
I feel like a major flaw in this story is that Sabine completely undermines Ezra’s original sacrifice and undoes everything he accomplished in banishing Thrawn. In universe, I cannot imagine a person being that selfish/stupid.
Not really. The plan was to remove Thrawn from the board to help the Rebellion win the war, which they did. That’s why Ezra knew it would take a long time for him to come back.

Honestly? With the Acolyte being what it was, I am way less critical of the Ahsoka series than I was at the time. I still have issues with certain choices, but that show was clearly made by people who loved Star Wars and wanted to bring their A game, and by people who felt it was an honor to be a part of a project as opposed to people who thought that Star Wars wasn't that good and needed to be fixed
I didn't previously take this into consideration when evaluating a show, but man does it matter now
Wise words!
Facts
Ahsoka was my favorite of all the shows. Had a smile on my face the whole time watching. It has it's problems like ALL Star Wars shows but the good outweighs the bad.
This show was the 3rd Star Wars show to get me teary-eyed or cry. First was Clone Wars and second was Mando S2.
This show felt important to the overall narrative of the "Mandoverse" and it didn't fell like a movie turned into a show. Plus the soundtrack was 10000/10.
Can't wait for season 2.
There's lots to love! Thanks for watching!

@@StrykeSZNong sounds like bro didn’t watch andor
@@samboggs8223 Andor's amazing! I highly highly recommend it!! It's an easy 10/10" for me.
I couldn't agree more
I hadn't watched Rebels and Clone War before I watched Ahsoka.
Seeing Ahsoka back on screen and also wrapping up some plot points of Rebels was just a blast to watch.
as a big rebels fan, I was mostly happy with how they continued the characters
@@thegoldman25I liked rebels just fine for the most part. I hated Ezra for the first couple seasons, season 3 and 4 he turned out great. And he's awesome in live action. The actor that plays him does a great job. I was happy with how they continued them too! Thrawn was a little iffy but he was mostly done pretty good!
It's how they fool us. They use the nostalgia factor and try to sell us something lifeless. This show was bland
I'm still very critical of what they did with Sabine
Her using the force nether works in character nor in universe
Also Sabine hiding the truth from Ezra really infuriates me.
This maybe a tangent but alot of these recent Disney projects many female characters like Sabine, Hera, Holdo, and more recently Vernestra Roe make decisions that get numerous people killed with no consequences or glossed over.
yeah some of those plot points frustrated me too
@@pbh9195 I think Sabine using the Force works within the universe.
Your rewrite would have pushed this show into something phenomenal
I’m glad you think so, thanks!
Agreed completely
Cause here's the thing: when Ahsoka + company inevitably return and stop Thrawn, we'll point to the scene where Thrawn could have killed them with TIE fighters and ask, "Why didn't he use more TIE fighters to stop them when he had the chance?"
I'll even throw in the head canon solution: The TIE fighters were in such poor repair that he either had only a few TIE fighters in flight condition, or he reasoned that he needed a minimum number to protect the ship when it returned to the galaxy.
It still had some highlights!
Part of the issue could be the strikes that happened recently, so maybe I should cut these studios some slack
@@davis1733 ,
Exactly. You said it better than I did.
I absolutely loved this show. sure it was slow at times but the story was very cool and so were the characters
I feel like the very concept of "Dark Jedi" fundamentally doesn't make sense...

Thanks for watching!
Love your work man. Thanks for putting all the effort into this : )
If you told me when i first heard that Snips was getting her own show that i wouldn't finish it, I would never believe it.
Don't hold your breath. Every star wars show has gotten worse as time goes on.
They really don't, there's so many things that are isolated to these eight episodes in a vacuum that just don't work
Evan Whitten was adorable/cute as Jacen Syndulla. He did a good job.

I liked reading your rewrite. You got some interesting ideas. Thanks for tuning in!
I was waiting for this video for a year!!
Enjoy!
Great review, as usual in this channel ❤❤
Thanks so much!
Maybe Anakin in the flashback told Ahsoka about a warrior who was really dangerous and almost killed him but helped him in the end, his name was Thrawn
In the Cannon thats gow they met.
Yes! I need med something for my last hour of work!
You Always give fair reviews coming from an optimistic place I appreciate this channel for that 🤟🏽
I appreciate that
Honestly, the most fascinating part of the show for me was Baylan.
By the way, I am watching your other chanced on overanalyzing the films. Love it. P.S. I am subscribed to both of your channels.
Awesome! Thank you!
The worst decision for me was to turn the romantic relationship of Sabine and Ezra into bro-sis relationship😢😢
Anakin was Ahsoka's father figure, and her struggle with that is core to what star wars should be about
29:42 the idea of ragnarok, reset, also, these two are based on Nordic mythos
The anakin leason was way to vague to have proper meening
Its way better than people say and think it is. Sure the ending was not the best but its still pretty good and the bail and shin stuff was just left for season 2. Not forgotten
We could have learnt of the details of why Ezra disappeared by having a hologram show that shows what happened. It could be done during the ceremony Sabine ditches at the start of the series
I still think Ahsoka is one of the better star wars shows. It's better than the acolyte that's for sure
Almost anything was better than The Acolyte
@@thegoldman25 and the acolyte wasn't even really that bad, it was just dull and disappointing

I love the new style of the thumbnail
As someone who never really liked the prequel era, and never watched either Clone Wars or Rebels, I was hoping this would pull me in (like other shows like Kenobi did.)
But it felt like I was dropped off in the middle of a story I didn't know, with characters I've never met, and I'm supposed to be up to speed on decades of backstory myself, rather than introduce and explain to me as a new viewer.

I feel like the flash of seeing Vader would be more effective with Baylen. His stature and fighting style was very similar Vader's and that could show how she lost that battle. She became reckless and fearful. Also, Vader talked about Anakin as a separate person (of which Ahsoka had heard, this could work well with Baylen mocking Anakin.
that's a good idea

One thing that isn’t an issue is Baylan and Shin.
I adore those two. 🫶
Would be cool if the show was animated. I want the prequels to be animated also
The show is good, but there were some elements I didn’t like. I feel weird about Sabine being force sensitive, after her character in Rebels was already fleshed out. Also her surviving being stabbed in E1 was insane.
Sabine being force sensitive is so strange to me and it feels completely forced
it also takes away from her fight with gar Saxon on mandalore.
A very big issue I had with the show you didn't really mention was how they handled the return of thrawn and ezra
First of all, nothing really happened to them in the decade they were gone.
When is your Andor one year later? I just rewatched the series (though I’ve watched numerous reactions) and I am amazed how good it is.
I probably won’t make one. Now it’s 2 years later and season 2 is on its way
Nine main films? There's only SIX main films.
why you gotta ignore the prequels like that? I don't like them either but they're still canon
@@thegoldman25prequels are the goat
He's talking about the sequels, and they do suck mostly because the lore isn't respected. So many, including myself, don't consider them canon
ITS BEEN A YEAR!!???
"killing ger family off was a GREAT decision" is a wild line with no context 😂
Awesome show imo one of my favourites since revenge of the sith
This Streak of videos 🎉
I hope you enjoy!
Oh I've seen it and I've spoken to the guy. It was great
Ayyy Gold Man!!
enjoy!
Mary Elizabeth Winstead was lovely in this show
She's gorgeous
They are guna start filming next summer according to Natasha
Disney really needs to draw from the fandom moving forward. This help should ideally come from some of the content creators who have legit skill and understanding about good story telling, and world building.
I think the biggest issue with this show is it just kinda expects you to know things, mainly from the animitmated shows, which while I love and watch them, for people who haven't seen them, AKA most people, this must be so confusing. I think they honestly should have had more flashbacks to the clone wars and rebles to better explain what is happening in this show and also better establish what is important for those of us who have seen everything
I wish I had watched the rewritten version of Ahsoka rather than the one we got.
Really missed Kanan though.
Your thumbnails are debest.
I loved the Ahsoka show. I started hating it because of Sabine surviving lightsaber stab. I love it again because I consider it a fan-made show now.
that's awesome!
I mean the show isn't bad but it's not good @@thegoldman25
I still enjoyed it
it would be really cool to have a story about a force sensitive kid growing up in the outer rim and then their parents die or there is some kind of catalyst for the change (kid unlocks force) some under world group catches wind and tries to kill them/use them for jobs n stuff then jedi get involved or somethin idk. could be a really cool story. now im thinking of it kind of like a better acolyte...
Cant wait for the revisit Andor
This was the first star wars thing that was so boring I couldn't finish it.. I just jumped in to watch the anakin scenes and that's it
I feel like a major flaw in this story is that Sabine completely undermines Ezra’s original sacrifice and undoes everything he accomplished in banishing Thrawn. In universe, I cannot imagine a person being that selfish/stupid.
I don’t agree
Not really. The plan was to remove Thrawn from the board to help the Rebellion win the war, which they did. That’s why Ezra knew it would take a long time for him to come back.
That's the point tho
