    my first win in general was with hazel... i really like summoner classes... also you mentioned the synergy between selicy and zenith but not fate shield which is done the same way but in this case it almost entirely removes the risk of ever losing that 200 shield... you really gotta appreciate how much thought was put into these characters starting kits and their synergies

    I freaking love Selicy, got my first win with her. Frost is easy to understand, and can be stacked very quickly for easy damage (especially with double cast). There are also a good number of artifacts that provide additional methods of stacking frost (frost on fire, ice bolt on jam, etc.). Combine that with fate shield, which gives reliable and fast (though often temporary) cover, and you have a character that can potentially deal a lot damage very quickly while taking very little.

    • @r.p.7174
      @r.p.7174 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I basically spent my first victorious run spamming frost spells, and some fire spells (along with combust) for some extra damage. My stratagy was to constantly use blizzard and/or doublecast hail while filling the entire enemy field with fire. If I get combust, even more fire! I probably didn't use snowpiercer as much as I should have, but if I'm repeatedly stacking frost in quick succession, I'm dealing damage pretty efficiently anyways.

      Slap on the artifact that heals you 20 hp every time you do frost damage and your basically unkillable. I did three genocide loops with Selicy and probably could have done more but with how intense the game was getting with all the spells I was throwing out the frame rate was dipping to slide show quality and I took a dive.

    You can get money from executing bosses with Shiso, but it's not the final hit that gives you the money (the one that brings them to 1 HP), but the hit after that which murders them. I think saving up money with him can be viable sometimes, particularly if you get the time slow card, which can help him a lot.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have played him a lot more since this and Lynchpin still feels like a trap for new players but for people who can reasonably expect to beat the game it seems OP. You take some extra damage and the run takes awhile to get off the ground but once its going you are a god haha

    First win for me was from Gunner. I focused on Doublelift and Convergence for Jam skills and trinity. Also very helpful when you find consume or jam artifacts. And when you get time slow, you can go ham. Since his gun can restore mana REALLY quickly, you can spam everything along with your jams if you manage to keep hitting people. People tend to shy away from jam based decks but when you could essentially have the ability to generate unlimited mana, jam becomes so overpowered with jam artifacts that give shield, frost bolts, and make them cost one. You can easily get like 300+ shield every round when you cast your jams, and potentially get even more when games last longer

    I think your advice goes out the window if you enter the game blind. My first ever win was with Shiso doing the exact opposite of what you proposed, barely spending a dime and only fishing for root/shield cards that would let me actually land shots. I would personally only consider Saffron good for new players because she has enough variety to teach dodging patterns and card pool, not because she is easy to win with. Every other kit (except Violette) has very obvious strategies that may not be optimal but can still be effective enough to get the win.

      Awesome to hear shizo works with you! My opinions are obviously biased vs my experience and I could not with trying to only use shizos gun and I still think it's not that powerful compared to what we could be doing.

      @@purplatypus7405 Saffrons kits definately aren't a problem by themselves. The issue is the lack of direction in card/artifact choice as they're intentionally built with a lot of power but no theme. Hence, she's bad at teaching deckbuilding, which is my main draw against her for beginners.

      @purplatypus7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lucashira337 I totally see where you are coming from! I do disagree but I understand what you mean. I think the lack of obvious direction is ideal for new players as it lets them experiment with everything and still do decently well. It depends on what you prioritize as the most important thing to learn. I consider learning what everything does and learning how to avoid taking damage is more important than learning how to make a super strong synergistic deck at least for a new player.
      I consider deck building kind of secondary to learning enemy patterns and what spells you like. However in something like Slay the spire I would lean towards your opinions no doubt where deck building is more important to winning a run imo

    I got the shopkeeper first because I bought the game specifically because I heard about her and was like "This character is a meme and I love it". I think I spent a solid 2-3 hours just rushing her stage 1 fight before I beat her.
    I find her to be one of the best characters for new players not because she's beginner friendly (because she isn't), but because she gives you access to the shop so you can learn items easier, and her low starting HP forces you to actually learn patterns if you want to get anywhere with her.
    I'm well aware she's not made to be played by a new player, and maybe this experience is unique to me, but either way, I am still having an absolute blast playing as her.

    Shiso execute was the first time I ever beat the shopkeep, had a bunch of money, pinned her down and just unloaded the gun into her, works... surprisingly well, Though the only reason I started the fight was due to having Reva as a back-up incase she did kill me. Hardest issue with Execute is that delay to firing, but on enemies that stand still a lot that is a rather effective way to take them out, which is where the traps he starts with are rather nice as a root option (If rather unreliable at times)

Glass Flute and Magnifying glass turn your weapon into a single use Sera Cannon, which if you DO fall for the "trap", means a LOT of damage. Also, it's the easiest build to turn into a Sera Cannon build you mentioned, as you said, as it is REALLY good at generating that critical mass of money in the first place to break Serra Cannon. In my case, I did beat Eden with over 1k money, meaning i could just delete mobs with 1 shot of Lynchpin and could just delete Serif with continuous fire.

    Sweet guide :). I disagree on Violet personally. She was the first character I beat the game with. She definitely *isn't* the easiest character to win with and she is really overwhelming the first couple runs, but eventually, you don't really have to think about your weapon attack all that much - you can grab multiple buffs on every attack and you know what you need when you press the button.
    The upside for her is *really* high too, having easily accessible mana + trinity + Shield is insane. She has built in frost synergy with fragile (given how good frostbite is). She has built in trinity synergy, and because of how good shield and mana is, you can kind of spec into *anything* and still be very effective. No other character has the QOL she does once you've done a couple runs with her ability. I also think her starting kit is really exceptional for pretty much any build. Corset is *very* strong with her kit. Frostbite is *very* strong, generically, with her kit. Mana steal is *very* *very* strong with easy trinity. The 200 damage hit is the *worst* ability and is hard to use, but is still rather useful once you're used to it, and you can usually remove it once your build starts to come together.
    Definitely rough the first few times though and her starting with 900 health isn't all that great either xD. But given how hard the game is, I think the learning curve on her tapers off really quickly, as the second you have her ability down, she is easier than most characters to do well with (IMO at least).

    on violette, one of the golden artifacts is phased shields, basically, if you get hit once, you get invincibility for 1 second, however it applies 1 fragile on you, so basically getting hit hurt more but you wont get wombo comboed to death. combine with phased shields, all the fragile will stick to you and any subsequent hit won't matter, allowing you to freely gain spell power.
    also, turrets on enemy tiles make it easy.
    shiso's starting spells are pretty easy to use if you know the right thing to do. first claw trap, place your marker over one of the two claw traps, activate align, enemy is now stuck in claw trap for 4 seconds, orbital beam, step slash, or lynchpin for the kill.
    shield throw isn't a trap, just need to spec into root in hearth like wreath. i usually remove diagonal beam because it kills hostages.

    • @geraldloo1639

      Shield throw can be a "trap", but not really also. Most bosses have a second phase, where all their attacks become more difficult to dodge, and they tend to hit a lot more, a lot quicker. Shield throw, can bypass all of this nonsense. First, either save selicy or apply fragile to an enemy, then gain 0.75 of enemy health as shield, then just one shot the enemy for a beautiful perfect after you root them.

    Nice guide. It never occurred to me to synergize a movement spell/attack with zenith/ which ever the spell that branches from the corners. Will definitely start trying that. I have yet beat the game but I partially blame it on me playing it on the switch. When the game gets busy the game hiccups and my timings get thrown off. There have been many a shopkeeper attempt and I'm down to the last 1000 hp when she throws out the crystal attack and I lag SMH. I learned to abandon the switch version for any serious attempts and will pick it up pc when it goes on sale.

    With Shiso you can just focus Phalanx and stack shields, maybe prioritize chest/hazard for money if you want. After 2nd boss you can just nuke them from then on with your weapon. By the 2-3 last stages you one hit everything besides bosses and and at the last boss you hit 800+ every shot. Remember you only lose 1.5 damage for each shot, at some point that doesn't matter anymore.
    The noob trap is trying to get as much money or trying play around the weapon (too much) maximizing the damage or whatever and not figuring out that the weapon will be OP if you give it some time. So get just get a bunch of shield and a couple of spells you like (I prefer Aubis to poison everything) and eventually you won't need those at all because you're one shotting everything.

    • @purplatypus7405

      Shiso is super powerful but I think his extra weak early game makes him a bit weaker than what most think. All characters can be super op broken by the end game if you get the right stuff but characters that are weak in the early game I think stand out as traps for new players

    Havent watched, but I honestly think the best character for newbies are default saffron.
    Theyre so good at teaching the player about things. They only teach us to move, cast, and use weapon, so the new players doesnt know what spells there are and how to synergize them. So default saffron which has no gimmick at all and can use whatever spell is thrown at her is good to teach new players what spells there is in the game and get used to the controls

    I beat the game on my 6th run (or so), I ended up doing a neutral ending against the wall (It was my first attempt against him). I had a busted shield / deck management build with my Reva, I could litteraly tank the damages and just throw everything I had (I still have no clue at all about the pattern of the wall honestly).
    I didn't even notice I won (I figured out with this video, because I unlocked the second set of skills) since the game kills you in this ending anyway. Honestly, I am still way too bad at the game to reproduce this with another char, even with a chrono build, I juste had insane synergies.
    Shield runs are much much easier, because the game becomes much more forgiving. I was taking at least 200 dmg per fight, but np it was on my shield. You only lack dps, but this is perfect for a beginner, because it gives you more Time to learn the patterns.

      In my case, I had a jam deck build with "consumate" passives and stuff like that, so I still had a decent dps. I just tried another Shield run, it is true that focusing more on shield gives very lackluster damages, I got wrecked by the wall ^^

    A bit of a cheesy way to play with Shiso, it's to do everything you can to get either Cassidy's Scarf or a time slow/stop spell, and also hoard a lot of money. Once you have that, you can easily spam his weapon during those 5 seconds of time stop and do an insane amount of damage in just an instant.

    They've since replaced Mine in Terra's starting kit with the slightly less situational Poison Tails. Not really enough to move the needle, though.
    Seriously, the only place Mine is really useful is against Terra herself and you can't do that if you're playing as her.
    Fate Shield is three tiles... but centered on you, so you can use it as two tiles if you pay enough attention. Furthermore, it's meant to be used similarly to Zenith where Snowpiercer lets you skip most of the board and potentially KEEP the 200 shield. Seriously, with only two tiles before it's off the board...
    Diagonal Beam is actually her main means of saving the hostages with an explosive crystal behind him. Distress calls in general have her second only to Hazel because of this and her shield focus (Hazel can save explosive crystal hostages by hitting them with her wrench because they're considered structures and the others by putting structures between them and the gun turrets).

    I would have to argue with Terra. I honestly found her one of the easiest character to play. She requires honestly the least amount of thought out of all the characters I have ran. Delete mine then upgrade excavate. Literally that is the deck right there and she just steam rolls. It is tricky at first but Terra essentially removes aiming since your end goal is to get your opponent stuck and with the upgrades to excavate and items to boost mana it becomes really easy to just spam breaking tiles. Terra was my go to character for the dont add a card into my deck. Terra's fault is one thing. She relies on artifacts and good ones. When it comes to a lot of the characters. I have found myself disliking only a few of them because of having what I consider a bad kit or bad weapon. However this is just my opinion and I found your video to be very interesting to watch.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to argue the opposite haha. That might be a deck once you remove mine but it's a very very weak one. The real issue with Terra I'd she gets worse the more enemies you fight as you can't break tiles with enemies on them plus since you need to break tiles it means you need to move around to each tile frequently to keep them broken greatly reducing your freedom to dodge attacks unless you let your damage go to shizz. Not to mention the final bosses seem designed to ruin this strat with each one changing the rules with the wall making half the tiles unbreakable, serif causing you to change sides on the field and terrable invading your side .
      I'm not saying it's impossible or anything but there are far easier ways to win with most characters I would argue haha.

    I know this video is like a month old but I just picked up the game a bit under a week ago and I agree and disagree with some points. For some reason I can't seem to lose on violet yet. I think pressure on using her attack properly was over valued. I just use the shield if I need to and attack in early floors otherwise mostly ignoring it. I wouldn't call lynchpin a noob trap but definately harder to utilize to full effectiveness. Some bosses have openings to use it on *notably terra who is a godam cuck*. It's strength comes from getting you to bosses healthy so you can focus your deck on stuff that isn't necessarily great for casual battles. Using selicy's basic attack to full effectiveness is too big brain for me to comment on, only played her once. I think the issue new players also make on hazel is over committing to structures and not learning when to just leave a tower to it's fate. Your reva analysis was pretty accurate. I personally disagree with the shield throw part and I would like to add 2 other comments on reva. Diag beam is probably something I remove instant I don't need it's damage and that self damage such as corset can be reflected so that's something to keep in mind. I'd like to add that default saffron was really well designed as a mini tutorial, thunder teaches about non projectile attacks. Kinetic wave and frostbolt teach synergies and the dash teaches you about movement abilities and temporary positioning. Chrono is amazing but I feel like wristwatch can teach too much of an over-reliance. Using it too much can mess up the rhythm of some attacks, throw away too much mana and give you a sense of safety you don't have. Used right tho godam is wristwatch amazing.

Sure, setting up broken tiles on your opponents field takes away from mana that could be used on damage, but you get a guaranteed window of success where you can combo high damage spells into their restricted space, while getting basically infinite scaling mana regen for that combo. It's a slower pace, but a safe and steady one, and I have obliterated bosses just doing that a couple of times while clearing consistently with her. The other key thing is that only takes a line straight across a bosses field to disrupt their attacks or lock them in place for you to spam on them, so typically no more than 4 broken tiles are needed for a setup.

      @@Nomans_Nomen I have no doubt you got mad skillz with her for sure. Im just saying id rather be doing other things with my mana than breaking tiles as I personally find it a negetive as it causes enemies and some attacks to behave in different ways and can lead to taking more damage at least for me
