We look forward to the FF return to Mountain City, TN, for Tim to give us the building tour and for your reservation meal at Suba's. Not too far north of Boone, NC.
This where Tom Dooley (folk song) was hanged. Just east of town is Trade that was an old Indian trading post. You got there going through Elizabethton, that has a ton of history.
Definitely enjoyed! Beautiful Town, and history! Loved the antiques also! Takes you back to a time, and peace of mind, experienced long ago! It’s awesome to experience such places, and meet the faces! 🥰
I love the heel and it's my favorite slice of the bread! Mike and Karen, really enjoyed your video and what beautiful mountains and scenery and little town! Very interesting little town too. Love seeing Big T! Love y'all and God Bless You!❤️❤️
My mom was from Mountain City! 😃 She moved to DC to work then met my dad and moved to Alexandria Va. We used to go every summer to see my grandparents and I would walk to town with a neighbor friend and stop and get some snacks and hang out. Those were the best days! 💕💕 Beautiful mountains surround this quaint town. I want to visit there again soon. And by the way, I got a whoppin’ too by my grandma with a switch, boy did it sting. 😮☺️
The end piece of the bread is what I use for toast but only for sweet stuff, like apple butter or almond butter and on occasion molasses. I'm gonna head up to Mountain City this weekend and you get the credit for me taking the trip! Wonderful Video you two!
Please go back to Tim’s building and take a tour. I love how friendly people are in small towns and all the stories they have to tell. I would love to live in a town like that.❤😊❤
Mountain City is a great location by Watauga Lake and surrounded by idyllic towns like Banner Elk NC, Damascus, and the best pulled pork sandwich at Mikes on 421
The drive in was breathtaking with the mountains wrapping their arms around you. Lots to see and the people were so open and friendly. What a historic place. I think i will take the end slice of bread. As a child mother would toast the end piece and cover it with butter and cinnamon and hand it down to me. You know, there’s nothing better than a good sandwich and sharing a meal with Big T. Thank you for bringing us along . I enjoyed it every step of the way . God bless and keep you all your days.
Mountain City, TN! A very nice place. Oh yes, I thoroughly remember the infamous switch! Sometimes, you were shouted the opportunity to go outside and pick your own, which would be used by the powers that be on you. In my parents' house, no rod was spared, and no child was spoiled! And, my siblings and I greatly respect that important policy, which we've gladly shared with the next generation who now share same with their own kids (who are very well behaved, mannered and a true joy to be around). "Make discipline, accountability, and consequences great again!" I truly enjoyed this video! Til the next time..... GOD bless!
When my dad told you to go get your own switch you better not come back with a wimpy one. If it wasn't good enough to suit him,he would wear it out on you then send you to get a better one.
What an enchanting little town! It reminds me of where I grew up and the small towns around me now. I’m looking forward to your return trip👍🏼 God Bless🙏
Loved the history! Yes...a return visit to talk to the owner of the old Rexall store! Very interesting visit. Y'all are improving with every week. ❤🙏Jane
FIDDLER’S CONVENTION!!! Now that’s something I haven’t heard in a while… my pawpaw always went to a fiddler’s convention and fox hunter’s convention!! We would go sometime to the fox hunters one.. it was way out in the woods!!😊😊😊. ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO, as always!💜🌼💜
Please share all in the mountain City TN. It will be 👍 to see the updates and see what Muse Hardware is. History at its best. Beautiful place from VA. You're taking my son and I places we have never been. Native from NH ❤ love the Mural Mile.
I love small towns where you can park at an angle on the street instead of having to parallel park. It is the mark of a nice small town that is enjoyable to visit (or live in).
Hey Mike and Karen what a beautiful little town y'all always come up with the neatest little towns glad that y'all continue to enjoy life take care and God bless
Another great video. I visited Mountain City a couple of weeks ago during my vacation in Ferguson, North Carolina. I spent around 3 hours at the combined Johnson County Welcome Center and Museum. Most of the time I was chatting with my friend, Jenny Johnson. One of the subjects we got around was the hanging og Finley Preston in 1905. He was hanged for the murder og Lillie Shaw in what provedmto be the last public execution in Tennessee. Great that you showed the mural depicting the arrest of Tom Dooley in Pandora. TD is one of my big interests. 💖
Been awhile since we been to Mt City definitely got to get back there. They wasn’t much going on when we was there couple years ago. It’s a beautiful little town an the Lake is beautiful
I am 20 miles from SC Line and Virginia I live in the Mountains SW of Knoxville, Tn.. I have to drive down the mountain to talk to people because cell phones do not work up here. .Nothing Like the Appalachian Mountains..
Hi you too beautiful people I am still get caught up on all your videos I love every whare you have Ben ❤ it nice you do this so people can see other places whare I can't go I don't have the money to travel I thank you for doing it
Well, I'm a day late. As they say, better late than never. Love these mountain towns. How do ya'll find these neat places? Don't like the "heel" of the bread. Hey 👋 to my man, Big T. Hugs 🤗 and kisses 😘 to you. ❤️ Be safe, have fun, and God bless. ❤️
The Steve Earle song "Copperhead Road" talks about this area and the moonshine running that occurred there. Copperhead Road actually exists, but has been renamed "Copperhead Hollow Road" because the road signs "Copperhead Road" kept getting stolen. Imagine that!
In the late 1970s/early 1980s I did some audit work in Mountain City for two or three years. I think the name of the client was Mountain City Bank, the President was Jack Muse. Beautiful area and some of the nicest people I have ever met. This would be a great area to retire.
Thanks for this video. I go through there going to Damascus and always say we are coming back just for Mountain City but never have. Need to do that soon! I recall that deli being the Army Surplus store also.
Love the History of these old buildings, I always called the last piece of bread , the butt end. How's the Van doing? I would like to get one for weekend trips, I can't talk Jeannie into it.
Excellent job with your presentation on my wife's hometown. Subscribed. FWIW, I've been trying since 2008 to eat at Suba's and have yet to sit at a table, and that is with many times having reservations and them cancelling for a host of reasons. I am of the opinion it is a private club masquerading as a public dining place. Nevertheless, ya did good, enjoyed it and subscribed.
How did they fair in the latest tragedy from Hurricane Helene? A lady I follow on TH-cam Hillbillykitchen is shining light on struggling community of Mountain City, rallying to help. The ppl that live in the mountains of this town. It’s truly heart breaking! Prayers go out to them all. 🙏 Would love a update on these wonderful ppl

Did your grandparents live on College Street?
Grandmas are SO good at being THE one who puts the "what-for" into us as kids. Raising us RIGHT.
The end piece of the bread is what I use for toast but only for sweet stuff, like apple butter or almond butter and on occasion molasses. I'm gonna head up to Mountain City this weekend and you get the credit for me taking the trip! Wonderful Video you two!
Sounds great!
I WOULD ENJOY SEEING A WALK THROUGH OF THIS BUILDING.
Please go back to Tim’s building and take a tour. I love how friendly people are in small towns and all the stories they have to tell. I would love to live in a town like that.❤😊❤
Mountain City is a great location by Watauga Lake and surrounded by idyllic towns like Banner Elk NC, Damascus, and the best pulled pork sandwich at Mikes on 421
I feel the same way about the end piece. And everybody lets me have it because nobody else wants it.
The drive in was breathtaking with the mountains wrapping their arms around you. Lots to see and the people were so open and friendly. What a historic place. My wife likes the end pieces from a loaf of bread, which is fine, she can have them. I think they are crusty and gross :). Love your vids.
I miss my home town
This is so lovely...and not a single homeless tent on the sidewalks!🤗
No but we got crack heads
Ya need to go to Landrum, Sc and Tryon, Nc
