Whenever the potatoes started to flower its a sign that they are closer to maturity. One love ❤️

The sweet potato leaves are good! They are kinda sweet and mild flavored greens. They're super nutritious, too! Rabbits can eat them if you want to turn them in to protein.
I dehydrate my greens and make a green powder for smoothies! Yum.

To the one who said when sweet potatoe vines are flowering it is a sign that it is getting ready to harvest. I agree but at the same time it is good to leave the potatoes alone until it stop flowering. I learn that the hard way. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL THE PEOPLE OUT THERE AND PLEASE TRY AND STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY! 🙏🙏💐💐

@hosstools don’t laugh! I have okra that was at least 11ft tall. I cut it back but not before I moved a ladder around that bed for the entire season. There were some small ones that seemed to be stunted. 🤣 After seeing this video, I went to check my seeds and sure enough, it’s the Jambalaya Okra! 🤓 No wonder they hadn’t gotten anywhere near as tall!!! Thank you for clearing that up! Great video! Now, I got to go check my sweet tators! 💜

My first year with a single sweet potato that I dutifully got to send out tendrils. Mine is in a grow-bag, and like you, I am going to wait until cooler weather to dump the bag.
Odd note, my son does commercial dirt moving on construction projects in Alabama. Kudzu is an issue there. But after growing one darned sweet potato in a 7 gallon bag, I wonder if they could be used for soil stabilization. (Only bringing it up because there was a project that had severe erosion of the hill behind the construction, and I jokingly said "drop some kudzu on it and it'll be fine.)

We feed ours a little bit of balanced fertilizer in the beginning to get them going, but don't fertilize them after that. Too much nitrogen will cause you to make all leaves and no potatoes.
