They say never meet your heroes, I can't figure out why as when I met Dave Thorpe as a kid he 💯% met all expectations of the hero status, now he slots into the living legend bracket nicely 👍🏻
This man has put so much back into the sport of mx regarding helping riders progress, and as a role model and hero for the rest of us. Loved watching him race and would one day love to meet him and say hello, true moto cross legend 👏
Having watched Dave as a fan at numerous world MX events in the 80’s, I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting DT with my son and riding with him the whole day at one of the Honda off road days in Exmoor Park feb 2020 . Not only was Dave great company , the instructor team were most helpful and good fun to be around . For an ex MX racer myself , I was a bit of a star struck 56 yr old . He can still handle a bike !
I met DT in the early 80’s along with his lovely wife. I worked for Oakley at the time and he was in town for the Carlsbad GP. I had the pleasure of setting him up with all his product needs. He was one of the nicest person I have ever met. My first time meeting such a proper English gentleman. I enjoyed always spending time with him whenever he was in town usually once a year. I treated him like a normal person even though he was a motocross God!
Iam proud that i met hin in his mobile 93 At Mill Holland.he is a real Sports and gentlemen . I ask whats wrong outthere? His answer was : smeets and Martenstein are to strong! At this day i saw boonen,as he twistet and Abend his 500 green Monster in the Sand woops and curves. Those guys was animals.the speed they go.......was a positive nightmare.never ever forget the real goss of MC. Dave was my idol.
Thorpe'y looks like a tax inspector in the video 😬 Met him at elsworth cambs in the park ferme on a practice day he was there with Dickie dye on the 500 Kawasaki.PROPER BLOKE so unassuming Great rider and champion RESPECT.
