Brilliant ! Nescliffe is one of many places I go past driving along the A5, that I always mean to visit but never have. Your show has got me starting to visit places I go past or through, taking the time to explore ! Next is Shrewsbury which I plan to visit soon (Pronounced like the mammal, shrew, not shrow !) So thank you for inspiring me to do something new ! ## I forgot, in 1976 before the A5 was widened and it went through the village, at the start of a cycling tour of Wales we stopped for lunch at the Nescliffe Hotel, so I have visited Nescliffe !
Thanks for your lovely comments. The debate on how to pronounce Shrewsbury goes on and on. I know an old family of Shrewsbury who 'know' how it is pronounced. It has nothing to do with the mammal or modern spelling - just as Leominister is not pronounced as it is spelt. If you look up the etymology of the town's name you will see where it has been corrupt from. Younger people get very annoyed with me for pronouncing it in the traditional way. Hey ho. Glad you enjoy the videos though. :)
2:20 I seem to remember a quite popular musical ensemble called "The Quarrymen" - I vaguely recall they adopted a new name, (which escapes me), and had a little success with it...presumably not the same people, (though they may've also got stoned after a hard day's night)... ;-) Thanks as ever Dave
Great video - I’m glad the weather was much kinder than the day before. I am pretty sure that there has been a conversion of some caves into a house in similar sandstone in Shropshire that was an episode of Grand Designs!
Oliver's Point - possibly be named after Oliver de Botesville????🤔 The Baron of Belvoir Castle awarded the Stretton area & Shopshire Hills to Oliver & his brother Geoffrey for taking such good care of his Castle when King John awarded them governorship over it during the Magna Carta. They only had it for 2 yrs, before it returned to the owner. But being that the Botevilles/Thynnes settlled in Stretton & Church Stretton at that time & generations after...makes ya think. If someone knows, please help a girl out!!! Btw...another great vid Richard. Shame about vandals! Little punks!!!😡
Richard great video . " Confused " start ? I will take this walk with you it is a wonderful place . I saw the Earlier video with the Outlaw's cave and I am glad you took us to see the rest of the place . I have a question , how far is this place from Wenlock Edge ?
Thank you for answer ,We have Wenlockian Series rocks here . :56 seconds Nothing wrong with the start , Sorry . Our signs get vandals also . Great video .
You covered a lot of ground in this video Richard, love the story of Humphrie Kyaston but think its unlikely that he kept his horse in his cave as horses are top heavy and arent able move theyre weight backwards so would fall down a flight of stairs other than wide/deep stairs with a gentle slope. Unless what I believe about horses and stairs is just an urban myth of course, but I its a widely held belief. I also used to be indecisive but now im not so sure ;)
Well done Richard, there are some great trees in that wood, and the caves are really facnating.👍
Great Richard passed through Nessclffe many a time did not know of these places. Lovely views.
Well worth an explore. :)
Nice to see you back in Shropshire!!
Thanks so much.
thank you for the walk, Richard! loved seeing the iron age fort!
It is a lovely place.
Thank you for a lovely video! Stunning scenery.
Thanks Zoe - sorry about the sound quality.
Another one I’m going to try an do in the summer thanks Richard 👍
Well worth going any time of year!
What a lovely tour. If you go to Carlisle, you'll find a lot of red sandstone. Carlisle Castle is built of it!
Oooh I do like a bit of sandstone.

Cheers Dave.
No way was that a quarry - looks more like some sort of citadel to me
Great video - I’m glad the weather was much kinder than the day before. I am pretty sure that there has been a conversion of some caves into a house in similar sandstone in Shropshire that was an episode of Grand Designs!
I bet there are some great cave dwellings.

The locals I believe claim it was to do with Oliver Cromwell, but who knows!
Excellent vlog Richard interesting area. Did you know that your voice appears in mono and the rest is in stereo. Or is it me.
I edited it on my lap top and didn't notice only one channel had sound on. Sorry.

Well I cannot vouch for the truth of the Kynaston legend of course.

I enjoyed this very much. Been to Nesscliffe many times but never up the hills. There’s an excellent roadside cafe nearby which I highly recommend!
The Three Pigeons used to be good too. Thanks for watching.
