The Irbis-E have 350 km detection range against 3 m^2 aerial body. F-35 is 0.005 m^2 . F-35 An/APG 81 - has 150km range of detection of 1m^2 and since SU-35 is around 5m^2 as aerial body , the Su will theoreticly be able to see it around 20-50km distance while F-35 will see it atleast at 300km distance first in advance.

Fat amy will lock the su 35 sooner and get off the first missile but if they merge the su 35 will dominate. Having said that, one is a 5th gen multirole but mainly air to ground and the other is a 4th gen air superiority fighter. The f-15 ex would be a better comparison.

Just like in Vietnam, the US military has put all their eggs in the long range air to air basket with the F-35, when the air is full of aircraft in a real combat situation, how you gonna tell friend from foe, oh wait, you mean ya still have to visually see somebody before you shoot at them.
The U.S. has drones that can do that job for them the dogfighting part and of course they have the F22, F16, FA18, and maybe top secret aircraft that aren't released to the public yet. Also, the NGAD fighter is going to be released soon (6th generation fighter). There are SAM systems that prevent dogfighting, and there are going to be drones that can dogfight for you eventually pilot dogfighting will not be there anymore, it's all going to be tech, AI, long-range missiles, SAM systems, Satellite laser weapons... the pure pilot dogfighting will be less and less in the future because of this technology advances.
@@Dylan-cr5ub I agree that many things can be done with drones, but drones are remotely controlled by radio waves and anything in that category can be jammed or disrupted, look up aircraft called Wild Weasels. AI probably will be a game changer, but it's gonna be awhile before AI can actually do abstract thinking.
@@Agislife1960 But for example, the jam signals/anti-radar need to be in range also and a lot of times missiles like the Storm Shadow/JASSM are launched before the fighter planes are even close to the radius of the anti-radar system or SAM systems unless an enemy plane detects them via their radar signal but even that is already checked before going to launch the missiles because normally they pre-check the perimeters in the sky with stealth planes for such threats. Back to the missiles, its stealthy design and low-altitude flight path make it very difficult to detect and intercept and that's also why dogfighting is less and less popular. As missile technology continues to advance, it becomes increasingly effective at preventing attacks. However, it's important to remember that with every advancement in offense, there is also an advancement in defense or countermeasures as you mentioned earlier.
By launching cruise missiles from extensive distances, they can evade radar detection, including ICBMs, MRBMs, and IRBMs. These missiles can make dogfighting unnecessary, and currently, we also kinda lack the technology to intercept an ICBM traveling at speeds of +15,000 miles per hour. While anti-ballistic missile systems may offer a counter, such anti-missile systems remain an extremely challenging task. We can only hope for improved technology in the future, but history suggests that even as we advance, new and potentially more formidable threats may emerge.
In war/life, I always say this "Where there is an attack, there is a counter or defense with it" and every time it holds true. This is why dogfighting, while still possible, has become increasingly challenging but not out of the question. Also, the U.S. acknowledges this shift in warfare dynamics and has developed versatile aircraft, such as the F35, capable of serving multiple roles even the F22/SU-57/J-20 is not only a mere dogfighting plane like back in the day. The landscape of warfare is undergoing significant changes due to the emergence of drones, AI, long-range missiles, cruise missiles, laser satellites, submarines, and for those who believe in potential UFO technology 😄😉. These advancements are reshaping the nature of conflict and defense but I agree with you there is always probably a defense/counter-offensive measure with it.
