@@adequatequalityyou have to be extremely fanboy to justify a 200$ keyboard not having backlit, under your logic, just let Apple ship a keyboard with plain keys and no characters painted at all.
For the past three years, I've been using Logitech MX Keys for Mac, primarily because of their backlit keys. The layout is similar to Apple's Magic Keyboard with extended numeric keys. While I prefer an all-Apple ecosystem, unless or until Apple develops a backlit Magic Keyboard line, I will continue using Logitech’s keyboard.
I totally agree, and with my desk setup I love the ability to jump between devices with my MX master mouse and MX keys keyboard... Just wish the backlight would stay on rather than momentarily.
They won't ever because Apple wants all their devices thin and in order to have backlit would mean slightly thicker with a bigger battery and likely wired support which they won't do also. It's like asking for Apple to create a television.

What apple NEEDS to do is add multi-device pairing/switching with the keyboard & trackpad. In my setup the apple keyboards, ect aren't considered work but playthings..apple needs to change this
100% YES! I love the Magic Trackpad, there was basically no other choice for me in terms of pointer control. And I was really confused the first time I tried to switch between my new Mac Mini (personal) and MacBook Air (work). Thankfully I have a USB dock right in front of the trackpad, so I was able to neatly connect it by wire into my whole system. And I'd have to do the same thing if I were to switch to the Magic Keyboard. This seems like exactly the type of feature Apple is usually good about supporting, so it's disappointing and a bit odd. It doesn't seem like an insurmountable technical challenge, but then again, what do I know?
The reason it says its not supported on Intel Macs is because of Touch ID. The Touch ID functionality of the keyboard only works with Apple silicon, but it can still be used as a normal Bluetooth keyboard on any other device
After further examination, It looks like the new one has some additional changes besides type C. The FN/Globe key was added/moved to the bottom left corner the left control and left option keys were shrunk to fit this key. The key left of home key were the FN used to be is something that I do not recognize. Also the Command, Option, and Control keys have tweaked positioning of the text on the key.
@@timothyoutman7427 In the short magic keyboard the bottom left has always been fn/globe. In the long keyboard the bottom-left used to be a large ctrl (with the fn/globe key far away under F13), but now changes to this new, more consistent layout.
I use a MX keys mini. Yeah it does not have Apple optimisation or features like Touch ID but it’s something I don’t mind. I chose that because of better battery life, typing feel and backlit keys
The reason why apple didn't change the design of many products this year is because they were upset about the change to USB-C. They lost a fortune in revenue from lightning , and didn't want to change many things until they can replace that lightning revenue loss.
I’m still using the one that came with my 2015 iMac retina. Works perfectly and the battery still lasts forever. Also using the mouse that came with it too. And the battery life on that lasts over a month. The Mac mini M2 Pro is used about 10 hours a day.
Thanks for the video, though I am curious what the new button does above the Forward Delete key. They also changed completely moved the FN key down to the bottom like the MacBook and Smaller Keyboards.
Hi Aaron, great video as always but you didn't mention the different button to the left of the home button and above the delete button? The older keyboard had a globe but I couldn't make out what the new one had.
Been using the Logitech MX Keys (Mac version) for many years, and I strongly recommend it. It's a little cheaper than the Magic Keyboard, and I think the only thing it's lacking is the Touch ID. It uses USB-c (and has for years), plus it has a built in capability to sync to up to 3 different devices and store those Bluetooth configurations, so you just press the dedicated button to switch it to whichever device you're using. I use two computers, so it's easy for me to just hit the buttons to switch between whichever one it's connected to. It does have a built in Lock button, but again, no Touch ID. Being that it's the Mac version, it also has all of the same symbols, glyphs, and even text style that you'd expect from a Mac keyboard. The keys are similarly quite flat, though they also have circular concave indents which feel really nice on the fingers - it's subtle, but awesome. Oh, also it has a full backlighting, and my favorite feature is that the backlight kicks in with proximity sensing - you don't even need to touch the keyboard, just move your hands over the top of it and the keys light up. It's also variable backlighting, so you can increase or decrease the brightness using the normal backlighting function keys. Another nice feature is function lock. You can hold Fn and hit Esc, and it switches your function keys so they act as normal F1, F2, etc. then you can use their traditional features like brightness, launchpad, etc. by holding the Fn key before pressing them (basically reverses the normal functionality), and then just hit the function lock button again to switch back to normal. I use this while playing some games, because Steam and certain games utilize the function keys. It also has up to 19 function keys just like the Magic keyboard. Fn 13 - 15 are the aforementioned Sync buttons, 16 - 19 are Calculator (right above the num pad), Camera, Menu (right click basically), and Lock (to sleep the computer). It's a tiny bit thicker than the Magic Keyboard, but instead of a wedge shape it's all flat like the old Magic Keyboards, and then the back end of it is a thicker bar which houses the battery and such.
Great video! Just one thing I noticed: there is a new button that replaces the spot for the old fn/ Globe key (and the Globe key moved down to the bottom left). I'm dying to know- what does that new button do? Thank you!
I still use my Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad from 2011. The newer models are nice but I cannot justify spending $350 for new peripherals when mine still work.

One thing I don't like, is the forward slash above the keypad, because I do a lot of 10 key touch it messes me up. The " /" key is above the 9 key on the mac keyboard whereas on all other keyboards it is above the 8 key. Now, if it had backlighting and that key where it should be I'd be thrilled.

lol, I didn’t know that the letters on the keyboard could peel until today. I thought that the most that they’d do over time was fade.. considering upgrading to the usb-c trackpad though since my button disappeared on my current one a few months ago. I wish they had added a charging indicator to all of their renewed usb-c models for both the keyboard and the trackpad.
The Apple a1048 is the best Apple brand keyboard I own . They went way downhill when they stepped away from mechanical keys. I despise the new keyboard designs.
Please in the next video show us that how the Magic Mouse connects and can it connect to multiple macOS devices and pairing with Windows devices if possible. As some of us have multiple devices running different OS
That they still not have added multi bluetooth connect is a shame... I own 2 magic keyboards only for that reason. 1 for the Mac Mini and one for my MacBook Pro ( when in clamshell mode ).
I bought that keyboard with Touch ID and the Magic Mouse I just got to wait for tomorrow for the Magic Mouse to come then I can’t wait for nov 8 for the m4 Mac mini with 32 gig of ram to come
$200 for a Bluetooth keyboard? No thanks! I've been using a $30 bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo on my Mac Mini that I carried over from my 2017 Dell. It recharges with USB micro-B. It also has black keys on a silver frame, and is still going strong.
I've had both apple and logitech keyboards and the logitech MX series is way better in feel and has more features ( backlight, multiple device switching, programable key combos), the only downside is it (the logitech) doesn't pair as fast their is slight latency. That said its livable. If you have an apple watch though, that can be used to authenticate to your mac so touch id is not such a deal breaker. Touch ID is great on macbooks, but they really should be moving to face id.
My Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad just arrived. Neither of them are even recognised as such, just working as a super basic keyboard and mouse, and the Trackpad doesn't even want to connect over bluetooth.
TouchID is literally the only reason I would use this again over MX keys. I briefly used M1 iMac, which I sold after few months because I didn't know the base model has only 1 fan instead of 2, and as MS Teams was causing the machine to be constantly running the fan, whilst my friends model with the "one level up", but still only 8/256 was silent as a base macbook air.. but nevertheless, the keyboard was ok, but without touch id there was no reason to use it over the mx keys other than it was the same color as the imac and it looked pretty. I don't really need the backlight on white keys, on my white mx it is permanently off, on the black one I would not survive without it. But the key travel is way too shallow for the keyboard not being particularly thin. There is enough space to have switches with higher travel.
I use the magic keyboard with the touch id. I really like the touch id feature and use it all the time. Having USBC would be a nice touch have but I already have the lightning cable so not worth upgrading for me. It would be nice if they put the backlight in but I really never type in the dark at my desk so again not a big deal for me. It did make sense for Apple to move away from lightning ports so that it is one less cable type you need to deal with. I hope with the magic mouse they make improvements that go beyond the USB C port especially 6:56 the location of the port. I really don't care for it and switched to a Logitech mouse. I do have a trackpad as well and that works fine and comes in handy. This is just my personal preferences.
I use a Corsair K100 RGB. I bought a set of alt/opt/Win and cmd/ALT keys for it and it works like a charm. Love my mechanical keyboard. Plus it's fully programmable.
So Apple continues to deliberately stymie their desktop keyboards by refusing to add a backlight rendering them unusable in low light conditions. I’ll be sticking to my Logitech mx keys and mouse
Although the Touch ID is really handy and it finally comes with usb c, I am going to stick with the Logitech MX keys. Not so much because it has backlit keys, but because I can use it for up to 3 devices: Macbook, laptop pc for work and my iPad.
I use the same keyboard and I've been using it for years. I'm glad they didn't change the design and just updated the USB port. After trying many other keyboards, it's the best option for my mac. I never understood what's the big problem with lightning, I use the same cable from my iPhone 6 to charge this and other Apple devices I use... they just work
Many companies misinformation in way to avoid us using things longer, have Lenovo legion slim 5 16”, company said it’s max RAM upgrade up to 32GB, I checked it in CMD it’s said 64GB I find video on YT, someone installed 64GB ,and it’s working fine. I addressed those cuz you mention misinformation about pairing devices list. One list is longer than other official.
It took them so long to ship USB-C accessories and they literally didn’t change anything other than the port. I was expecting backlit, and better interoperability between Apple Devices connected to an account.
Personally I don't find that I need touchID on the external keyboard. That's my use case though which is with a Macbook Pro, so the MBP is going to be open anyway and I can just reach up the touchID on the MBP itself. So I use the Logitech MX Keys keyboards. I imagine the two are very similar in use and feel given they are both the chicklet style, but the Logitech is backlit and the black coating doesn't wear down anywhere nearly as bad as Apples. This has ALWAYS been a problem and I wish Apple would fix it. My first MBP I had for several years and the spacebar looked like the rift to heaven with a huge shining gash in it from my finer nail over years of use.
By now I think it’s obvious that Apple is not interested in updating its accessories when having to covert to usb-c - first the AirPods Max and now this.
TouchID is nice to have, but that’s way too expensive to not have a backlit keyboard. I only expect not having backlighting on budget priced keyboards.
Backlit keyboard? Mate, just learn to touch type. When you have to look down at your keyboard, it means you don't know the proper way to type yet

What’s the use case?
If you need to type something (sorry, I couldn't resist).
Is that a car reader on it the left top?
Why this keyboard still uses these flat butterfly keys? Feels like typing on the old MBP Models.
It's about time.
Still can't believe that the shorter version of the magic keyboard does not come with black keys as an option.
I am disappointed it doesn't have other color like space grey for the casing.
I use the same keyboard and I've been using it for years. I'm glad they didn't change the design and just updated the USB port. After trying many other keyboards, it's the best option for my mac.
I never understood what's the big problem with lightning, I use the same cable from my iPhone 6 to charge this and other Apple devices I use... they just work
Keys still don't light up in low light-dark rooms amazing innovation Apple like the Airpods Max just a different type of charging port
Too expensive. i use a $ 70 Satechi slim X1. It has a black-silver Apple design aesthetic. No touch ID, but it has backlight.
Instead of that touchID i would prefer backlight
Many companies misinformation in way to avoid us using things longer, have Lenovo legion slim 5 16”, company said it’s max RAM upgrade up to 32GB, I checked it in CMD it’s said 64GB I find video on YT, someone installed 64GB ,and it’s working fine. I addressed those cuz you mention misinformation about pairing devices list. One list is longer than other official.
They moved the fn key to the bottom left side, that's one of the differences.
what's the key that under the F13 on the New keyboard? I remember that was the Fn key on my old keyboard.
Damn apple should start selling these black braided usb cables rather than just included in the boxes of the accessories and iPad Pro
