I just bought the Base Model Mac Mini, upgrading from my 2009 Intel Core i7 27” iMac. I connected it to my 55” curved Samsung television and a 2TB SSD plugged in the back. Been wondering what would replace my 2020 27" iMac setup that cost around £2K. Looks like the base M4 Mini with a Studio Display will do it. (Can re-use my existing peripherals).
You pointed out that the power button is on the bottom of the unit. That really seems awkward. Would there be a problem if the unit was placed permanently in an upside down position on the desk?
Waiting patiently for the M4 max studio myself. My last Mac was the 2013 Mac Pro tube, looking to move back for FCP instead of Adobe and leaving my windows system behind.
I have both for a Mac Studio M2 Max and they work perfectly. Also the ability to switch each of them between three different devices means you can associate them with your iPad, Apple TV etc.
About the power button. I've seen countless reviews about the Mac Mini M4. In one of them, the power consumption test with it in standby mode was almost zero. It's as if it didn't consume any power. So, I think the idea is to never turn it off, because its standby mode consumes practically no power. Therefore, there would be no reason to keep turning it on and off with the button. Question: What wireless keyboard and mouse would you recommend for the Mac Mini? That doesn't have incompatibility issues and isn't Apple's most expensive keyboard and mouse...?

I have a 2 TB NVME drive, how would you set this up to take advantage of Apple intelligence? Would love to see a video on this, because I am sure I am not the only one.
Honestly, unless you can write it off as a business expense, the Mac Mini M4 256GB with 32GB for ~1000€ + external storage seems to make more sense than the M4 Pro with 48GB. Apple is just ridiculous with their upgrade prices, the base prices are very reasonable but anything beyond base the price just explodes. I'd put the other 1300€ into an ETF and sell the Mac Mini 2 - 3 years down the line to upgrade to the next (base) version instead of keeping the 48GB version for 6 or 7 years. We got 60% faster CPU within 3 years, where the M4 CPU now outshines the 4000€ M1 Max.

As usual, no reviewers wants to talk about fan speed or thermal but choose to talk about stupid things like the power button
@AnonYmous-yu6hv I am WFH, noise level in my room is around 30db. Can't hear anything from it during my work.
Lol.. a is there another Mac mini Apple put out we dont know about? Before this one was M2 so.. hmm M4?
mac mini > macbooks
So we’re on the lower end of Moores law here but still ok
Where is the iMac Pro!! guess next year?!..will Apple ever bring that back?!
complaining at the 10gb network card not being default on the cheapest mac product really bud.... it's not horiented thoward the pro but the normal consumer
GET COLLEGE REBATE $499.00!!! OR-wait until M5 comes out the M4 will drop to $499.00
Im sorry but mac mini m4 base model is in fact more than good enough and in my opinion i cannot justify paying more than double the price for the pro version . Why more than double the price? So...the final conclusion is that im more than happy with the base model and hope to keep it for many years to come unless the soft and OS no longer gets any upgrades/updates and apple do not purpously slow down the older machines via software as they are good at using this trick to push you buy more often the newer models. Bad evil practice that is !!!!
I will probably buy the base with 512 ssd . 899…
It's $769 with coupon.
The M4 Mac Mini doesn't have a slippery bottom. It's your desk that's the issue. I have a real oak desk that weighs about 175lbs and the M4 mini doesn't slip on the wood varnish.

the cheapest way to develop ios apps
Apple : Looks cheap? Give me more money for more RAM and SSD. 😊
What's all the fuss about the power button being on the bottom?! How many times are you turning off your mac? It's a nothing burger.
Come on! 256 GB SSD!? 👎
And 1 Gbps ethernet! 👎
A decent basic Mac Mini would have 1TB and 2.5Gbps.
M1 Air is the best mac, this one is a distant 2nd
It depends on what you're doing with the machines and your budget.
