As well as this piece is known, it is still underrated. It has a drive and drama that is unique as well as a haunting power that makes it memorable. In spite of that, each listening can be like hearing it for the first time.
YOU HAVE TOO MUCH REASON as I listen to it I find new things and it transmits so many emotions ... it is perfect, it has something that makes it addictive.

What more can be said about this masterpiece! I first heard it played by Heifetz in the 1960’s. Someone said it’s underrated that’s true but it is right up there with the other great concertos. It is musically haunting and tugs at my heart every time I hear it!
Same here. I performed it last year and it is fun indeed. This recording is so clear and beautiful. It encouraged me to be as accurate and clear as possible.
WOW This concert is magnificent spectacular, so delicius and shining. I love this masterpiece. but is so short... that I again to listen once or twice .
I like this piece. Romantic, just like Mandelson, but more sad and more fast. I like this kind of romanticism piece, its sad, but in same time, dramatic.
I remember listening to this recording over and over when I was givin this piece. Definitely one of my fav recordings and really fun to play on top of that.
@@onlinemusiclessonsadamphil4677 Thank you so much! Actually, it looks hard. But if you work it slowly everyday, it's fine. Now, I'm starting to play Mendelssohn. It's so beautiful!!!
A really good version. This music is full of traps, and its balance difficult to keep. Dutoit is wonderful, as often. The soloist of course adds the final touch. But it is definitely a team work.
Sarah, your spectacular violin playing puts me in a trance. No other violin music (except, perhaps my own playing) ever sounded so beautiful! BRILLIANT!
E io penso a rifugio di letizia - ogni istante di musica che sia - ordine di dolcezza d'armonia - per gloria di vita.Sì,mestizia - anche ma ,dolce non come una folle - tempesta che frastorni più le folle.- .
@TheRonnos yes- her dad was a violin prodigy turned college professor, her mom is a composer. I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Chang has a composition or two she's hiding from us.
I have heard of this entity called ''THEY'' a lot......Who, what and where is this being known as ''THEY'', indeed where can it be found ?........I would love to have a conversation with '''They'' on so many things that I need guidence on as it would seem that ''THEY'' seems to be the ultimate judge who's opinion is quoted by so many as the finest source of knowledge on every subject known to mankind ? Perhaps ''They'' is another name for the ENTITY often known as ''GOD'' !!!
Have hard time understanding these kinds of late romantic music which practically soundreally modern. Unending virtuosic displays substituting for musical coherence?
This is a fine concerto, but why is it Vieuxtemps' most popular one? It may be due to the achingly beautiful melody at 15:10, but taken as a whole, his Fifth doesn't measure up to the interest or excellence of the First, Third, Fourth or even Seventh. (I've only to hear the Second and Sixth). Chang's performance is without question excellent, but I prefer Hilary Hahn's stronger tone (in a performance of his Fourth) to Chang's "ripe" one.
Pity,my favourite parts to the whole concerto, are the quite long passages of grace notes, just before the cadenza...They are definitely not audible eneough in this recording & that spoils it for me. Leila Josefowitz,at the age of 13,gives a much better rendition, and with a faster vibrato...at a LIVE performance...check it out...
I am quite disappointed - this is a try of a one to one copy of the recording of Leonid Kogan! By doing this she will have to bear the comparison with this fabulous violinist - and she fails in that comparison in every aspect. She is still playing very well but by no means is she a great violinist.
This album was released in 1995, which means Sarah Chang was either 14 or 15 years old. Just wow.

Henri would be proud. She brings his music to life in the way he did when it was born from his soul.
beautiful performance of a extraordinary concerto. Love you Sarah Chang.

Certified Intergalactic! The best I've heard of this Vieuxtemps concerto. Sarah Chang is a true violin virtuoso.

SUPERBE interprétation du (5 iéme concerto de Henry Vieuxtemps qui est celui que je préfère de ce compositeur.
Superb Sarah
Holy cow this is so good
BRAVO !
right at 6:59 when she hit that artificial harmonic i thought someone shot me i jumped so hard. that was CRAZY perfect and loud and accurate. how do?
First finger on the main note and then the fourth finger touching the string ever so slightly projecting the artificial harmonic.
@@TheViolinRoom I think Tanner Hoyt meant, 'How did she produce it so clearly?'

This is probably the recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Sarah was 14 and already playing like a seasoned artist. What would Einstein say now?
Is she family of wonderfull musician family Kyung wha Chang violistin & Co? Her daughter?...could be...?

Goddamn that was amazing
absolutly true^^ conductor Charles Dutoit
bravo
elle a été gâté par la nature , j'aime assez bien, il y a tellement de virtuoses à notre porté, mais beaucoup moins de compositeur romantique hélas
This technically very demanding piece well played by Chang. Flawless.

Agreed. The sound is brilliant, but the video is a bit slow.
Or maybe they just have a different opinion, eh
Maybe they think Vieuxtemps was a hack composer.

Vieuxtemps

Interestingly enough, that theme at 15:10 wasn't even written by Vieuxtemps. It was taken from André Grétry's opera Lucille.
Very Goog (the must in this album is Paganini, for Vieuxtemps i prefer Heifetz or Van Keulen.)
This is very good by Chang, but I still prefer Grumiaux's performance over this one.
Pity,my favourite parts to the whole concerto, are the quite long passages of grace notes, just before the cadenza...They are definitely not audible eneough in this recording & that spoils it for me.
