Yeah, I had the same thought. Various economists (i.e. Edin Mujagic, Ray Dalio a.o.) discuss economic cycles in terms of debt. The generational theory seems to fall together with economic/debt cycles. Not just private, also government debt. WW2 was in Europe and North-America also a period of peaking debt and after they unloaded debt. Now it has reached a new peak again.
20:20 how can the air date be May 15, 2016 if he's talking about Trump's victory in 2016 and the later victory of AOC and her rise to prominence in the Democratic party.
The Vietnam War had a strong emotional hit to me. My paternal Grandfather was a cusper of Silent and Boomer generation. He was more shaped directly by his family being crippled by the Treaty of Versailles post WWI and unable to leave before WWII. He was born during the early part of the war. He immigrated to the US in 1959. Less than 10 years later he was in the war. Four years ago, I read 2,000 names from the wall at a 1/3rd replica of the monument, being they wanted some National Guardsmen and Veterans to read the names. I saw a Budweiser left at the wall open. At first I almost threw it away, but it truly hit me. The one that didn't make it home. It was HIS cold one. And how the passionate truth becomes clear. How it shapes the Boomers.
Very relevant on this first day of June 2020 : "Financial crisis is very much linked to economic crisis, which is very often linked to military and geo-political crisis ... and it all has to be solved with one enormous effort. And once that is resolved , once that is overcome, we then get to reset all the rules of the game". In progress today ... a time of Covid-19, lockdown and "the burnings".
I get what he is talking about...we are all shaped by the environment we grew up in. Something I noticed too is that all the social movements start out as nobel, understandable, fair and honest and then they degrade and become perverted and authoritarian and move into becoming opposite of what they intended to be. For example in Washington state they are for the 2nd time trying to pass a bill that would not only legalize but mandate discrimination against whites in education, loans, housing and job placement. That is tne state of diversity programs in 2020 look how its become exactly what it was supposed to be against.
That generation is almost gone- but they contributed far more than just to SSecutity... I look back on the values they held ...upstanding and honest - we could do with some of that right now !,,
I find it deeply ironic that Millennials get pegged as coddled and self-important when we've spent most of our lives being denigrated by our elders and blamed for the crises we had no hand in.
Yeah look how well that whole movement turned out...Boomers that destroyed the cultural foundation of our nation, created insurmountable debt, gave us constant interventionist wars, and raised a bunch of over privileged Millennials. Nice legacy.
I'd be interested to know how he defines the role of the 5th generation still alive today ("Silent generation") who are older than b.boomers, but in some cases still active in society.
That is a symptom of the 4th Turning ... "the sentiment that the very state of the republic is at risk." But I get what you mean ... previous forth turnings didn't have climate change baring down on them.
Bella, climate change is not a new thing. There was a thing called “The Little Ice Age” not that long ago that caused havoc to global order for those alive at the time.
