Taking the average of 79" and 77" we get 78" for the belt size.78" is what i received when i ordered the belt. Good video, and thanks it helped

You did a hell of a job filming this and actually installing the belt. Looks like a challenge but I’m pretty sure this will be the last belt I’ll be installing on this Cub Cadet.

Any drive belt installs I have ever down on my own mowers have always had to remove the deck. You done great not having to remove that deck. I am also glad to see you know and or remember to install the clutch properly by making sure its locked in so it dont sit there and spin with the motor running and break the wires going to the clutch

Yea the issue I’m having is removing that clutch bolt to access that last pulley. When I spin it counterclockwise the shaft spins with it and it’s difficult wedging pliers into the small space to hold that shaft so that the bolt will back out. I even tried a chain wrench and it was a failure. Hopefully I can find a way around this.
I found the way, for those that have same problem. You need to wedge a long screwdriver down through the top to wedge the sprinkling apparatus in a way that it can’t keep spinning.
Take both spark plugs out stick a rope down in the hole so it stops the Piston then you can take the bolt out

Ummm. . . .So you were just able to slip the belt over the electronic clutch without locking the shaft/motor and removing it?
Do not use 79”, use 78”. A 79” belt will slip. Cub Cadet verifies it’s a 78” on their website and all of the tractor supply stores

How do you get the clutch off. Mine just spins when trying to loosen the 5/8 inch bolt.

Don't start it just turn the key on lock your mower in then take the bolt loose don't forget to turn everything back off
What did i do wrong?? I changed my neighbors drive belt ST1554. Mows for 10 min and blades shut off. Let it cool and repeat. Thoughts?
relay for pto, or water/corrosion in plugs to pto, ours had that problem
Hey man thanks for posting! Question on mine the belt is still on but seems a little loose almost like the belt isn’t wide enough or short enough.
uses a 78 inch belt a76 or 4l780
I went a different route, I took the four bolts off that go to the motor, then I jacked up the motor enough to get the belt on, then eased the motor back down, put the bolts back on, then took the battery out, and the guard, and used a socket to take the plastic fan lock nut off using an impact drill, then put the belt on, replace the fan. Oh before I forget, make sure you set the parking brake, its easier to get the belt on. Once the belt is on, release the parking brake and check to make sure your belt is tight, you can turn the pulley to see if the belt is tight and moving like it should.
Sir, underneath the pto is where the drive belt goes BUT my belt pulley has 3 pieces of metal too tight up against the pulley that I cannot remove the belt to replace it. ? Any advice? Thank you
loosen the motor bolts or remove them to slide the motor back enough to make the space you need. if the pulley doesn't want to come off it's a bad idea to force it
Job was easily completed by using a crescent wrench and bending the metal tangs out of the way and bending them back upon installation of the belt no sweat super easyBy the way the people that I did the work for chose not to pay me I did 12 hours of work sitting in the dirt.

Takes 2 minutes to remove the deck,Do yourself a favor and remove it then stand tractor on end back end down. SOOO much easier and faster....

I recently replaced the deck belt on mine. Now the drive belt has broken while mowing. Is it normal for the engine to not turn on or turn over after a drive belt breaks? I don't want to go to all the trouble of trying to replace the drive belt myself only to find there is something else wrong also.
sounds like you got something else wrong never had a broke drive belt keep an engine from starting. Not sure exactly what would be wrong but, no way should that keep the engine from starting or turning over
Might be that the belt got tangled on the PTO pulley

Mine is a lt1018 and uses a 78 inch belt 1/2 inch x 78 a76 or 4l780, a 79 will slip and lack power when climbing hills

I just did my you might not like it but I used a screw driver and bend it a little with caution don't bend the pulley
I heard 2 different sizes...first you said it's a 79" belt, then it said its a 77" belt. Can you confirm which size it takes. My mower is pushing 20 years old I'd say and it shredded the drive belt finally so gotta replace it

MTD engineered set up. Quite a bit different than the good old days when the Cub Cadet tractors were made by International Harvester, which, when you compare the two, the International Harvester Cub Cadet tractor was, and is built with strength, quility and looks. The MTD, well, not much of an opinion.
You are quite right the old Cub Cadet was a true Cub Cadet that shaft works fine to drive it sometimes you would share the pin off but they were simple to replace I still have my old true Cub Cadet also
My 2008 GT1554 has the three tabs also. I just bent them and was able to fit the belt in around the pulley. I bent them back after I installed the belt.
Back in those days the sales pitch for Cub Cadet was"tested by boys." Hard to beat that!

Did you have a flange around your drive pulley? Because I didn't see where you talked about that part. The most important part of this whole video is explaining how you got the belt around the drive pulley flange (guard) whatever you want to call it. There is no way to put that belt on without lifting the motor. I didn't see you actually put the belt on the pulley so I'm assuming you left that part out of the video for a reason.
Yes you have to remove the clutch you cannot bypass the flange guard you have to remove the clutch I did mention that in the video i probably should have put more emphasis on that part sorry if that was confusing. However I was trying to make a relatively quick video cuz I know people don't like long dragged-out videos when they're trying to get things done. Hopefully that wasn't confusing I have another video on my channel about changing the drive belt that would probably be better than not removing the mower deck
@@alexdobo3270 that clutch in NOT what he is talking about I/we CANNOT remove the belt due to the pulley having metal flanges blocking the ability to remove the belt. Can you say something regarding this problem. Model 1212 thanks brother

Impact wrench dewalt 18v... after about six 4 second cranks
It came off without holding engine flywheel tight
I used a 3/8" ratchet and I believe it was a 16mm/ 5/8" socket. Took about a 12" regular screwdriver and slid it in behind the shroud right above the starter and held the flywheel. Definitely go the impact gun route if you have one available, but I fixed my father's mower at his house where he didnt have one. Also, the top pulley on the crankshaft will slide down to fit the belt on. Yes this could be done without removing the deck but it's like 2 more minutes to just get it out of your way. Total time, start to finish after I had the new belt in hand...45min? Now that I've done it, maybe 15-20 next time. Make sure you pay attention to how the PTO clutch wires are ran and also the spring that attaches to the right hand side of the frame.
I inserted cotton rope 1/4” into the spark plug hole to cause the piston to lock up thusly removing the pto bolt easily. Happy mowing. Edit: do leave the rope inside so you can tighten it as well.

clutch was easy but there ain't no way that belt is going around the pulley on a 1550. does it come off? it's very soft an it's on there good. now what?

@@yippihippy4588 if you didn't figure it out the pulley slides down the shaft, loop the belt, push it back up. I also removed the idler belt that is above the deck.
@@andrzejconner676 i ended up cutting the darn thing and replacing it, the shops pull the mounting bolts and lift the motor till the belt will slip on. at NO point did the old pulley slide anywhere!
@@yippihippy4588 that's a drag. So let me ask you, did the replacement pulley slide on? I don't doubt yours was stuck at all, just wondering if it was a different design for some reason
@@andrzejconner676 the new one slid right on, i live in florida and rust happens. the new pulley was exactly like the old one. i used an impact hammer to cut much of the old one and even that did not loosen it at any point.
You should tell them what a pain in the ass it is to get the clutch off because when you turn the one Bolt the engine wants to turn over so you need to use an impact to prevent that and you got to remove the guard around the clutch

I have the original part number for the original belt it's actually a 78 in 1/8 of an inch belt that would be the original size that came with the mower

No offense, but I just did this job and can honestly say, you didnt really help anyone here. Removing the deck, is the easiest part of the entire process. NOT having to remove the deck is really no advantage.
