  • Here's a video on how to ACTUALLY install a drive belt on a cub cadet riding lawn mower. I used an MTD belt and it worked just fine; probably wouldnt have worked for my Kubota riding lawn mower but oh well...

    I tried it your way, but I took the deck off so it was easier to lift up (not as big as you), and it worked for me. I appreciate you doing this video

    I've been watching your channel faithfully for about two years now, mainly for the religious and preparedness content. I just happened to be googling how to replace my drive belt and this video popped up. Which was awesome. Thanks Bear!

    My drive pulley would not come off either. I heated the pulley body up and tried a gear puller. Didn't work. One other guy suggested removing the four engine bolts and lifting up. I have not tried that. I couldn't see how all the attached components like the exhaust system would handle the movement. I will try bending the tabs next. i didn't have the slotted washer for the 5/8" bolt so I put a breaker bar with a socket on the top of the motor to stop the shaft from moving, worked good.
    I can't get the bolt off that plastic fan at the rear of the mower. I will keep watching, THANKS!

    For what it’s worth, I’ve found it’s much easier to drop the deck before you lift the mower up to get underneath.

    I just did it and it worked! The clutch bolt came off with a little effort. We were pushing up the guards for the pulley when I decided to try to pull the pulley out. It came right out! And this is an old machine. Great video

I saw a few and thought “ok it aint bad, I think i can do it”. then i see your vid and how you positioned it to get it fixed....no thanks, I have better things to do with my time lmao - your honesty is greatly appreciated. I’ll have a local shop come pick it up and drop off when it’s done.

    This was super helpful. I watched several videos on how to get that 5/8” loose and then I tried tipping the mower up and gripping that plate while smashing a socket wrench to break it loose. I was about ready to give up. You saved my weekend! Thank you.

      Next time try this, pull the spark plug feed in cotton rope 1/4” until ya can’t feed more, the piston jams on the rope allowing easy removal, do leave the rope in to tighten, your welcome, hehe also this works with ANY engine

    I removed the mower deck & put the mower on some car ramps so could get under it. An impact wrench or a normal box end wrench struck with a hammer will loosen the pulley bolt so it can be removed. There's no need to remove the pulley or bend the tabs. Remove (4) engine mount bolts & lift the engine up with a hydraulic bottle jack placed under the pulley shaft. Place the belt around the rear pulley first & slide the belt right over the front drive pulley - don't thread around the tension pulley yet. Drop the engine back down & reinstall bolts. Pry tension pulley over & slip belt around the pulley. Replace the mowing deck & off you go.

  • @zeppelinjh
    @zeppelinjh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Found if you put mower back down without deck on, remove the four engine block bolts put front right of engine on 2x4 block. Run belt from trans to front then push belt up through frame on to pulley and temove block. Bolt black back in. No need to bend tabs

    • @bucket0rocks
      @bucket0rocks ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. Unbolting the motor so you can flop it around as needed is the answer. If you do that you don’t have to take the pto off (ya do still have to unplug its wires to get new belt around em). Taking the mow deck completely off makes it a LOT easier. And leave the double nuts for front of mow dek alone unless your adjusting them for a reason.
      Takes me about an hour.

    I tipped my LT1050 on its back end. Next morning found acid and water had drained out from one of the battery cell covers. Have neutralized with baking soda; will carefully clean up with bucket of water and baking soda (and rubber gloves) when ready to set mower back down.
    Needed air tool to remove crankshaft bolt. Could not get good enough grip on flats to stabilize PTO.
    Looks like I will also have to bend the tabs to install belt. Puller was not sufficient.
    All said, this was probably best youtube on the topic (so far) but recommend removing the battery first.

    That 5/8 bolt was a B*******........i found an easy way for me anyway.....i used an electric impact and it came right off......my pully wouldn't come off either so i could slide the belt on......those three tabs bend out pretty easy.....then i just bent them back.
    Thank you very much for the video.......i was totally lost until i watched it.

    Good job. I have an LT1554 and the procedure is the same. I've had the mower 15 years now. I am getting ready to replace the belt for the third time. I've had to bend the ears back from the engine pulley to get the belt on and then bend them back each time I have done this. I've never had any issues doing that. No way that pulley is coming off. So of those other videos are a joke.

    Unfortunately a riding mower is a necessary evil on an acreage. I've spent too much time this summer working on mine and it needs fixing again! If it isn't one thing it's another. Lol have a great week.

  • @PeterBalletta
    @PeterBalletta 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This video was helpful. A couple of things I might add. I put 6" blocks under the front wheels to raise the tractor to gain access to the clutch bolt.
    I used an air impact wrench with 5/8" socket on the bolt and it came right off with no trouble.
    I had the most trouble trying to get the electrical connection apart. I had to pretty much tear it apart as there was some corrosion and wouldn't pull apart.
    I didn't even bother trying to get the pulley wheel off, instead I used a needle nose type vice wrench to bend back the three metal tabs and forced the belt in.
    Job worked out great and I actually had the belt but was putting if off for a long time because the job looked like a PITA....:)
    Obviously, I had to bite the bullet and get it done today.
    Thanks for all the info.
