I have a K46 in my John Deere. It has no drain plugs, but it does have an internal filter and two round disc magnets. It also has two stumps in the housing, which will prevent you from removing oil from the top vent. It needs to be removed and taken apart, buy the rebuild kit from Tuff Torque.

  • @golfergears
    @golfergears 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

There is a filter inside the transmission. You can get parts. Seals our also available. If anyone having trouble getting the plug out just give it some taps on top. Works most of the time . But ust hard enough that you don't damage the housing or plug.

I was only thinking the other day "if" oil has to be changed every 6-12 months regardless of km's/miles done oil containers would have a "used by date on them"! the way these oem companies carry on to get you back in for serving is a scam in my opinion.

There are many causes that can result in the degrading of lube oil. The most common are oxidation, thermal breakdown of the lube oil, micro-dieseling, additive depletion and contamination.

Looks identical to my Craftsman PYT 9000 (2011) I have. Mine is labeled "Hydro-Static 618-0319." Still runs well. Thanks for the video. I've not found ANY better TH-cam.
Update; I meant to say Hydro-Gear. Upon pulling the top fill plug and removing the expansion tank my HG was full to the top. I syringed out using livestock syringe about an inch and half in diameter by five inches and clear poly tubing. Put a piece of bailing wire inside the tube to direct deep into the axel. Got 50 ounces out and could see no more oil. Refilled with new back to the top. Tractor Supply store had Hydro-Static oil on the shelf. One gallon $29. May my tractor will work another 11 years now. But will change the trans at three per your recommendation. Thanks.

Hi thank you for responding. I spoke to hydro gear and a technician told me I have to take the air out of the system after the transmission fluid change. I’m not sure how to do it. After stripping the plug using the 1/4 Allen socket i thought i was going to need to go buy more bits so i can try and manage and get the plug out but then i decided to go and try and use the t40 torx socket i gave it a good zappe and with the help of a piece a pipe gave it a good ol' try and i only heard paaaahhhh and the ratchet slipped so i thought oh man now I'm going to need to buy me another torx socket so i looked at the plug and didn't see it being more damaged so i looked at the torx socket and it wasn't broken so i put it back on the plug gave it a turn it started coming off i was like uuuuhhh eeeeeeeehhhh so if you strip your plug get yourself a t40 torx socket and give it some hammering down then give it a try it'll come right off

This is one of the best explained video's I've seen on You Tube! Very well done. I was thinking about, should I change my transmission fluid in my Husqvarna lgt2554, so I looked, it doesn't say anything about it in the manual. So I start looking on line, and you tube. I purchased my riding tractor on 5-26-2011, so, over 10 year's ago. I've never changed the transmission fluid, although I service it every year. It has to be very dirty. I've not had any problems with my Husqvarna, not even a flat tire, I did replace the battery once. I haven't looked yet, but do you think my Husqvarna lgt2554 will be similar ? It has a Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission. I will get my son-in-law to help me do this. Thank you for posting this great video! Thanks, John

Commercial lawn tractor spin on oil filter engine and grease Zerks everywhere for long life with proper maintenance. Even a little dashboard computer that tells you when to service parts of the tractor based on hours of use. All this to ensure a long life machine.
Yet the transmission sits in its own filth, ignored, forgotten and dies prematurely....nice.

Do you happen to know what size of wrench the fill plug is supposed to be? 6mm is far too small, 8mm too big, 7mm isn't part of the metric wrench sets. The standard metric set..1/4" is too small as well and I don't have anything larger at the moment. It's the exact same transmission and your insert used to remove the fill plug is slightly larger than 1/4". So probably 5/16".
Absolute cock suckers that will burn in hell that made these transmissions so difficult to service like this.

      It's a weird one!
It is either a 6.5mm or 9/32". 1/4" is too small and 5/16" is too large.
6mm is too small and 7mm is too large.
My guess is it is 6.5mm or 9/32".
I got it out using a 1/4" pulled to a hard angle to grip enough to remove the filler plug. It almost stripped out, but got it. Judging by the filth of the oil from my transmission, this is something that MUST be done every season with engine oil. These being sealed and only magnets to capture particles is a crime.
Flushing mine out until it comes out clear. Third time and still dark. Good thing I got 2 gallons of hydrostatic oil.
Thanks again for making this video and bringing this to people's attention. Lot of money spent on this equipment to be sabotaged like this. Subscribed.

I tried to remove my fill plug on my Cub Cadet SLTX 1054 and snapped off two of those driver bits, it's a perfect fit, but the small detent in the bit where the collar of the drill driver locks onto, is where it kept snapping, I've soaked it in PB Blaster, will let it set overnight and try again. According to Cub Cadet's Parts Diagram it's a SAE #6 plug, but the #6 Allen Socket I have isn't as snug of a fit, as the backwards driver bit.
