  • There are many reasons to buy a Crosstrek, not the least it being a practical hatch/wagon design, and a spacious-ish interior.

Crosstrek replaces the XV of the previous generation, but keeps all the cool stuff that makes a Subaru, a Subaru. Gay cars come in many forms, but is the Crosstrek going to come up to the standards gay buyers expect?
    The exterior:
The metalwork is a trifle more svelte than its chubby-cheeked forbear. LED lights up front come standard on all but the lowest of the low, and who wants that one anyway? Crosstrek has inherited the somewhat polarising plakky wheel arch moldings from WRX, but that’s about the only likeness the sedan and wagon share. Crosstrek has an extra 85mm of ground clearance, but you won’t be going far off-road. Crosstrek is a city lad that likes a spot of water sports on the weekend. He isn’t climbing a 45o slope for anything but a gin and tonic at the other end, and there are far butcher cars for that anyway. The Crosstrek is more like something that will have a couple of skis bolted to the roof for a weekend in the Snowies.
The roof will take a lightweight load, and who doesn’t like a light load?
Crosstrek is not exactly handsome. It won’t stick out in a car park, and perhaps that is its strength. Like the Impresa and WRX, Subaru Crosstrek won’t offend anyone with outlandish slashes, over-designed front ends, and bums like baby elephants.

I wish there was an app leading to a host of selections regarding noises that are just a pain to live with. One should be able to go into this section and select all the noises you DON’T want to hear your car make and select to turn them off PERMANENTLY. This should be linked to your key so that if more than one person uses the car they can put their preferences in as well.

I've been looking to buy for a long time now, what l have found is you you have two choices either a 1.5 turbo powered vehicle with a dual clutch or a vehicle powered by a two litre under powered motor with a CVT. l'm a 76 year old self funded retirement, but l'm not dead quite yet and would love a vehicle that had a bit more power for the highway and a conventional auto transmission. The closest love come is a Mazda 3 GT or Astina. Thanks for your review it has been worthwhile and considering all the safety features on the Subaru it's worth a test drive. Always look forward to your reviews.

abdolsutley right. Subaru could easily put a small turbo on, but i think their fear is that turbos and more power on lower models would not give people enough incentive to buy WRX

Our daughter and her husband had their first child due over a year ago when vehicles were in extremely short supply and needed a suitable safe city SUV for carrying our grandson plus for occasional country trips.
After test driving all available small SUVs they loved the Mazda CX30 and were able to obtain a new Astina which has a 2.5L naturally aspirated four with a traditional six speed automatic.
This would be a direct competitor for the Crosstrek, I believe, but with more power and superior handling, better fuel economy but no dreaded CVT. Build quality and finish are very impressive indeed.
Test drive one at least as the children are delighted with the Mazda.

Oh Subaru what have you done? Nice looking, beautifully built, all the bells and whistles but underpowered, very average fuel consumption, rather cramped and that awful CVT transmission.
A miss for me for a brand I once really admired.

no doubt sill incredibly capable but i simply couldn't understand the economy.

Boring for some; but reliable, safe and well equipped. The omission of LED headlamps on the base model is stingy. Obviously the CVT transmission is not assisting fuel economy,

agreed. the CVT is the reason claimed for use. we thought the economy figure was disappointing
