I never owned a Subaru until I bought my new 2022 Crostrek. I am 70 years old and I was SHOCKED at all the fantastic safety features the Crosstrek has!!! I have now had it a little over two years and already have driven over 47,000 miles with it. I live in southern California and have taken my Crosstrek, with my dog, all over the western United States with NO ISSUES! BY FAR it's the BEST car I have ever owned!!! It does GREAT for me in the light off roading I do, and is simply a JOY to drive. I am even thinking about going back and trading in my 2022 Limited for a 2025 Wilderness Crosstrek which has a tad more clearance underneath and comes with the skid plates already installed. I do like the older manual controls and the fact I have already installed 1/4 inche thick skid plates on my 2022 Limited version Crosstrek, but I am sure I could learn to use the newer large touch screen display too. SO, I may well trade in my 2022 Crosstrek for that new Wilderness Crosstrek model. We shall see??? The one feature I have come to love on my Crosstrek is the adaptive cruise control which I never had on any of my many other vehicles in years past. I could go on, but that's enough to prove I simply LOVE my Subaru Crosstrek!!!
@@EatSleepDrive I HAVE A CARGO NET (oops) I guess Ideally remove the net and maybe use bungee cords on those same hooks to keep the bike secure if anything is bouncing around
Standard 8 footer lumber will fit with the hatch closed. I’ve fit 4-2x6’s and 6 2x4’s -8 foot. It was a manual so the shifter would move out the way, stayed in fourth. These are so useful for so many things. 2019 premium 6-speed. The optional anti sway bar under the hood stifles body roll really well.
Nice drive. Last month I turned in a 2020 Limited, Pure Red, for a 2024 Limited in Alpine Green. Really loved the Red, but the Green warms my heart too. A little miffed that so many manual controls went from switches to the digital panel. Still learning it, and at 72, it's taking a bit longer. But it's all good, and I love the car. The only addition was adding Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter here. Appreciate the video. All the best. "The JJ", SW Penna.
The bike test distinguishes you from all other auto journalists. Plus, discussing visibility vs sexy sloping roof speaks to usability. Physical buttons means unlike playstation cars, I can keep my eyes on the road.
As an owner of a different SUV... a proper bike test is "are you smart enough to attach a hitch with a bike rack on it"... anyone trying to shove any bike in the cargo area is simply doing it wrong and i wouldn't take advice from anyone doing something so stupid... PUT A PROPER BIKE RACK ON A HITCH! I did this for my daughters bike who rode her bike every day and I literally used a bike rack for speed and efficiency... trying to cram any bike in the back is pretty dumb. Who shoves bikes in the back on an SUV? Use the hitch! (and if you dont have a hitch on your SUV, you're doing that wrong too).
Helpful review, especially the bike test. And I love the color. It is also worth noting that CR's 2024 reliability ratings have the Crosstrek way out in front, so when you talk about value, that metric is a huge plus, especially compared to other cars in this class.
I find the focus on 0-60 times so strange especially when 10 seconds to 60 is totally adequate for a car driving on a public road. A little more acceleration is nice but most people do not regularly floor it anyway... Even the slowest of cars today are quick compared to cars in the last few decades. Speed limits haven't really changed. I have driven actually slow vehicles. The Subaru is not slow. It's just a lot of new vehicles are actually quite fast.
Just leased a 2024 Crosstrek on Friday and last week and I love it so far! My first Subaru. I got the 2.0L Premium in pearl white and love the contrasting dark trim. The large info/entertainment center is amazing. Such a fun car to drive!
Purchased the 2024 Crosstrek Limited in April 2024 with option package 33: Moonroof, Harman Kardon Stereo, Starlink Nav System (built-in maps) & added Mirror Compass w/homelink, Auto-Dimming Ext Mirrors, Rear Bumper Cover, All Weather Floor Liners. Yes, we like all the goodies and Yes it drives the price up! $2000 - $2500 discount off MSRP was pretty common around here. Ours ended up at $34,000 with all the add-ons listed, and then I added a tow hitch for my bike carrier. I'm 65 and did my own early oil+filter change at 1000-miles. Easy to do but subsequent maintenance will be done at the dealership with paperwork to backup any future warranty claims. This is my first Subaru and I have no idea if the dealers and Subaru stand by their vehicles or hassle you if something's not right. I'm in Colorado just SE of Denver living at 5900-ft with trips up to the mountains on dirt trails. The 2.5L is not slow but adequate. The 2.0L would be a mistake. The Crosstrek handles the washboard dirt trails better than my wife's Honda CR-V. As mentioned earlier this is my first ever Subaru and I am pleasantly surprised at how nice the ride is for a 'tiny' car. I was expecting more of a noisy rattle box but it's mostly smooth and quiet. We have cracks in the roads and some pot holes around here due to expansive soil and weather extremes. Crews are ALWAYS out fixing the roads! The Crosstrek handles it just fine without losing composure. I'm getting about 23 MPG around town but I tend to be a little heavy on the gas with the car in Sport mode most of the time and the auto stop-start disabled. On a recent trip up to Estes Park on the freeway and some sweeping back roads I was averaging 32 to 34 MPG. You get used to the large infotainment screen. It's not as bad as some make it out to be. Many of the most often used features are right up front so you're not constantly going deep into the menu. The HVAC heat controls are physical buttons and the other HVAC related controls are always in the same spot toward the bottom of the screen. I will admit that touch screen inputs are slow to respond when it first boots up but not bad after about 30 seconds. Oh, and the adaptive headlights are outstanding! I replaced all the interior incandescent bulbs with LEDs as well as the backup bulbs. The LEDs do a much better job of illuminating behind the car so the dark path in your backup camera is much brighter. The LED bulbs can all be found on Amazon and replacing the incandescents is a simple afternoon DIY project. We've been very pleased with our Toyotas and Hondas. Subaru? I have no idea. We'll have to wait and see if it's reliable over the long haul.
I love your bike test because that’s actually one of my criteria. I would have never guessed the Crosstrek could fit your bike, while the Honda CRV could not! Thanks, just crossed the CRV off my list!
@@antonroux6737 looks like it easily fit a "bigger" roadbike, my guess is that even a big montain bike would fit, just not as easily. I fitted my big electric montain bike inside a small GM equinox, I have no doubt it fits in a crosstrek.... but still id recommend a bike rack over putting it in the trunk
@@ASecureLab I usually run before or after I bike to cross train. While I’m running I prefer to have my bike locked inside my car. I know they can still break in but I think it’s more of a deterrent than leaving it exposed on a bike rack or hitch. Again, that’s just my preference. Good to know about your E bike fitting in an Equinox. Thanks.
I really like so many things about the Crosstrek, but the one thing that just has me cringing is that horrific start/stop feature. I know it can be disabled, but I hate the idea of having to disable it every single time I get into the car.
The auto stop start is front and center on the big screen now. Very easy to disable. There's also a company that offers tech to turn the switch into a permanent toggle.
My feelings exactly. Just be lucky that we can still turn that nonsense off. Most people now a days turn it off and don't use it, so eventually they are just going to make cars where it is permanent and it cannot be turned off.
Is there a way to turn off the seatbelt reminder ? It's very annoying when going to move the car or driving where there are no roads or just having Cargo in the front seat and no way to disable this unending seatbelt chime if someone's going to pay this much for a vehicle they should have the right to shut it off
I test drove a Wilderness last night. 1. Nimble. 2. Decently quiet on the freeway. Huge improvement here. 3. Good headlights, not brightest like Toyota but average to above average. 4. High quality feeling interior (actually really nice) 5. Sporty seats and steering, amazing synthetic leather 6. At sea level not unacceptably slow, maybe the lower gears here help 7. Smooths out big bumps well, small imperfections jiggle the car 8. Good but numb steering 9. Great visibility 10. I couldn't find the home button on infotainment in my quick test drive This is a 9/10 car. It's excellent. A hybrid would make it 10/10
Negotiate online first, get all numbers settled before you go to a dealership. We have to get dealers use to this practice. They are called dealers for a reason, they want to talk you into the highest numbers. They want you to sign based on emotion and put you in debt prison. The dealership is the auto mafia’s turf, the internet and cash is our turf.
How the hell have they managed to lobby for so long? The idea behind them was to be a middleman between manufacturers and customers but price gouging during the pandemic further proves they are nothing but hustlers.
I finally found a dealer. I had to drive 1000 miles but I finally bought a car, after saving for a decade. Minnesota is where you want to buy your next NEW car. @@ctims4185
I have two major gripes with Subaru after owning a Forester for three years: the CVT and the infotainment. I really disagree with Subaru’s desire to move to this large tablet. It’s buggy and just not functional at all. I love the knobs and buttons on my Forester. I know there’s a desire to make things “modern” with touchscreen everything; however, it’s not practical. I would contend that the prevailing majority of Subie owners err toward the practical. The infotainment issues alone were my sole reason for selling my Fozzy. I miss it all the time, but the glitchy infotainment was maddening.
Yup. Subarus all my life and that giant awkward slab tablet is NOT Subaru function over form. Not even talking about how it performs. Why I'm keeping a 2018 Forester forever. LOL
Where possible, modern cars should adopt the BMW's iDrive controller knob that is located near the gear shifter. Easy to use and rarely select wrong function whilst driving even on uneven roads.
For sure! I wanted a car with good fuel economy, decent size dash display, and forward collusion avoidance (iSight), and great reliability ratings. Crosstrek ticks all the boxes...2024 Crosstrek Onyx ('Sport' in USA, 'Onyx' in Canada) on order, which should arrive Jan/Feb 2024 I hate the screens in most of the new vehicles, which look like a cheap Kindle Reader glued to the dash. All wheel drive I can take or leave.
EVERYONE COMPLAINING ITS SLOW ITS A 4 CYLINDER, ITS FASTER THEN MT 2014 JETTA. I LIVE IN COLOARDO AND IT DOES GREAT. DONT NEED 0-60 TIMES WHEN YOUR ON A MOUTAIN ITS NOT A SPORTS CAR.
Change the Transmission Fluid every 40k miles like the Canadian & Japanese market recommends. Not sure why SOA thinks this is a "lifetime" fluid, when obviously it's not. Otherwise other markets wouldn't suggest servicing it. It's not the CVT where the issue lies, it's the Valve Body Solenoid within. I couple hundred bucks every few years beats a $6500 repair. That CVT will outlast its owners.
I recommend 30k for a CVT as most people drive in at least some of Subaru's listed Severe Driving Conditions. And don't do a full flush, just a drain and refill. You'll have some old fluid remain in the torque converter. Most CVTs don't really like 100% fresh fluid if they have some miles on them.
The platform is not really new and first arrived on the Crosstrek for the 2018 model. What the 2024 has is all new sheet metal and a claimed 10% stiffer structure from increased number of spot welds and seam adhesive. That’s why the car looks nearly the same as the older one.
Just bought a ‘24 Crosstrek Wilderness 2 weeks ago and at this point I love this vehicle. It is just so much fun to drive and handles amazingly. Living in a snowy area, I know I will appreciate the ground clearance soon. BF loves it so much he is going to purchase an Outback Wilderness as he needs a little more cargo room. The safety features can’t be beat and I feel good in it. I have not taken it on the highway yet, but plan to soon.
I bought a 2024 cross trek limited in the alpine green and LOVE it. New to Subaru (was a die hard Honda CRV driver) and have loved everything about the car and the brand! Great review - thank you.
@7:46 - C'mon man. I'm also in Colorado and you know darn well that over half the people that drive a Crosstrek here never go off-road, hike, camp, mountain bike, etc.!!! Lots of older folks drive a Crosstrek to go to pottery classes and take their lap dogs to the park! 😄 Those that do use it for light off-roading are in the minority. The Crosstrek is on my shortlist of my next vehicle; getting to some of my favorite ponds with my kayak would be a risky proposition with many sub compact SUV's. But most of my driving is running errands and taking my kids to school, soccer practice, etc. So the MPG along with the off road capability (when I occasionally need it) is quite an attractive package.
I have a 23 CT Limited. Traveled to Yellowstone from Oregon & back. Never seemed to lack power. On I-90 east of Butte there is a long climb. Except for corners I was going 70 -75 mph with no problem. Comfortable & relatively quiet even tho I have Falken WP tires. Averaged 27- 28 mpg going freeway speeds both ways. Next car will be a CT.
I just bought one and like it so far. Some things seem a little cheap. Passenger door wobbles when driving. Lane departure warning should be standard. HVAC controls should be manual.
24k is the market price of the base model. You need to add on registrations fees, dealership fees etc. and you also have to pay tax. So the base will be probably 26 or 27k minimum
I've been looking at new vehicles from many different manufacturers but really want a Subaru, but the Forester and Outbacks at Touring and Wildnerness, with all the extras I want are just a pinch cost wise. This video really helped me decide, at 10K cheaper than those, the Crosstrek is a super attractive package. So glad I saw this!
I just got a 2024 Crosstrek a few weeks ago. I like everything about the car except for the location of the eyesight camera. Because I am tall the camera seems to block some visibility through the front windshield. I lowered the seat and that helped somewhat.
i ordered mine last May and it arrived at the end of August and i love it so far. no issues at all and drives great! though def not 24k like he said lol it was 36k and that was just the premium model which is less than what hes showing.
It's not that the Crosstrek is so affordable. It's that prices of other AWDs are insane. The Impreza was still under $20K USD MSRP like just a year or so ago. It's a versatile little car though. I use my 1st-gen like an SUV...hauling in the hatch, hauling on the roof, hauling on a hitch carrier, towing small trailers, offroading, commuting in snowcountry, etc. It gets better MPG hwy than even some hybrids, with my best tank averaging over 46MPG with the cruise set at 55MPH on flat ground. It has been pretty easy to work on too, but I haven't had to adjust valves, change CVT fluid, or change timing belt yet. The ride and the rear legroom are surprisingly good for such a small car too.
I live in a country with very bad roads, the government is pretty much broke and maintenance is spotty to say the least. The suspension is the superpower of my 2021 XV a.k.a. Crosstrek.
Love the green color and other colors for Crosstrek, the sport looks like an excellent choice, it’s on my shortlist to buy. Good value for the money, nice interior. Thanks for review.
My experience with shopping Subarus is that you don't really have a choice of the 2.5 engine in the Base and Premium versions. You have to go up to the next levels to get a 2.5 which are priced higher. Still I like my Premium 2.0, but then I live only 700 feet above sea level so probably can get by okay with the smaller engine. Thanks for a great review.
That I-sight system he mentioned dies just out of the blue and hella expensive to replace. Even if a rock were to hit your windshield you will be paying big money just to replace that.
Great review, and probably the best I've found so far on the 2024 Crosstrek. I appreciate how you talked about the driving experience and the day-to-day practicality of the car. So many other reviews talk more about the off-road capabilities or just run down the list of features it has without sharing any personal thoughts on it. I wish I had found your review a few months ago when I was car shopping! Nonetheless I did buy a 2024 Crosstrek Sport in Sapphire Blue Pearl and I absolutely LOVE it! I'm not a fan of the army green color, sorry, but I am glad to see Subaru offering actually color choices in addition to the whites/greys/blacks that have become the norm these days.
Not sure what you're talking about with heated seats on the outback. They're right at the bottom of the 12" screen no matter what's displayed on the screen at the time. The benefit is that you can turn them on or off when you start your car remotely and they have three levels of heat rather than two.
I bought the same exact vehicle a few weeks ago. Loving it so far. I enjoy the bike test. My last car, a 2013 chevy impala, had the ability to fit my road bike in it when I folded the back seats forward. I think that's a good test and am SHOCKED to hear the the CR-V couldn't fit one.
That is really odd, especially since the Fit had the ability for the seats to fold in a certain way that did let an entire bike easily fit in the back.
The mechanic refused to fix my Nissan XTerra, it has reached its end of life and he said it’s not worth it to spend thousands that I could use as a down payment on a new car. I am so glad that Subaru has a manual transmission. I am going out later to test drive one.❤
It's definitely the weakest point of the car, but you have to remember, they're building to a price point. If they put the turbo engine, it would definitely be more expensive.
Thanks for the informative review. From my test drive, the suspension set up is very good giving it a nice ride and confidence in handling. But 2 things i noted hopefully the next model will address 1) the rear seats do not have air-condition vents (where I live it can be hot during the day and a rear air-condition vent helps) making it uncomfortable for the rear passenger in a hot afternoon; and 2) a small matter but hopefully Subaru will replace the cable release fuel cap cover with the modern design one where we press the cover to open and close that is much more convenient to use (example of not having to run to the driver's seat to pull fuel cap cover release lever when refueling should one forget to pull the lever once you pull up at the gas pump).
Great review! Ive owned a 2016 and 2019 Forester as well as a 2020 Legacy. I’m thinking about downsizing to a loaded Crosstrek. Although a hybrid RAV4 has me interested.
I also like the kayak test. I love my CTW for ease of lifting and tying down the kayaks. Conventional SUV’s are extra lifting to get the kayak up to the roof for a 69 year old . Lol
I take it you got used to having the camera on the windshield in you forward view? The cost of a Sport is the same as the Base Outback, and with a couple options, more like buying an Outback Premium. The smaller car might be easier to wheel around, faster by a hair in the Sport, and perhaps more fun-sized; but the pricing? Is the wind and tire noise about the same as the Outback now. Do you hear tire noise from the rear?
Great review. I’m thinking about getting the Limited, fully loaded. How’s the drive on the freeway? Speeds up to 60-70 mph? Comfortability is important for me. I like motoring across states. Your comments.
From SF and just purchased the limited 32 pkg in sun blaze and absolutely love it. Taken the vehicle above 80 easily, super comfortable ride, a bit jostling when going over city driving bumps in the road. Handles great in weather rain and snow too. No regrets.
I just got the limited 2 days ago. I'm in love ❤️. Traded in a 21 limited. It's definitely a smoother ride and crazy abt the pickup. Added lumbar support which for me is a plus 😊. The sound system seems louder. 🤔 YES they could hv left a few knobs on the dash. Overall, I'm ecstatic and a happy camper. Kept my metallic gray, almost took the green, but I like being undercover 🥸. Go for it. You won't be disappointed 😊.
Shame they don't offer manuals anymore... Looks like I'll keep my '17 manual as long as possible. I don't like all that touch screen nonsense... When the sun hits it you can't see anything....
You drove right past my child hood home in West Arvada. Sunrise Ridge. As soon as you said Colorado I was trying to figure out what area you were in. And then as soon as you turned into Golden I knew. I just bought a 2024 CrossTrek Limited. I love it. I agree that the engine is a little meh. But overall it’s an amazing family/adventure car.
I just bought one and your review really helped me decide.. I think it is great on the highway and the gas mileage is excellent. Very good on bumps too for a little suv. Cheaper than Toyota too
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on how well the headlights do, or do not, work on the cars you drive. There's a lot of variation in effectiveness.
I too have the 2024 Crosstrek and the headlights are almost as good as the headlights on my 2020 Porsche 718 with their dynamic LED package. Really impressive. The auto-brights are even better in responsiveness than the Porsche’s.
MSRP means nothing nowadays because dealer will sell it thousands above the MSRP, plus tax, plus destination fees, etc. you’re looking at 5-10k above advertised price at least

I'm loving my 2024 Crosstrek. I love Subaru's implementation of adaptive cruise control. I drove a Camry for a while and hated its adaptive cruise control. You had to reset it to your preference every time you started the car. The Crosstrek will adjust the speed all the way down to a full stop. The Camry's cruise would disengage at 20 MPH and you'd have to hit the brakes manually. The Crosstrek has "I" and "S" modes. The "S" mode gives peppier driving, but disengages when the car is shut off. Wish it would keep my preferred mode when shut off.
For around 25k, Crosstrek is probably the best do-it-all car you can buy, with or without AWD. It's practical, roomy, comfortable, and all-weather capable. Sure you miss out on the digital gauges and cool tech competitors offer. However, HRV doesn't offer them, Corolla Cross forces you to go up to higher trims for it, Seltos/Kona aren't that configurable even on higher trims, and Trailblazer lacks a lot of features in base form. Just a great value for me.
Good review. I just bought one last month. Its called the Onyx trim in Canada but it is basically the Sports trim . Just had our first snow and lots of ice a couple of days ago and it handled excellent even with the all season tires. No complaints so far...although the basic six speaker stereo is kinda weak

Only way the Crosstrek is a deal is if you can get one for under 30k. So many in my area are optioned into the same money as the Foresters. I'd rather spend the +32k or so for the Forester than an optioned out Crosstrek.

I optioned almost everything I could and added extras on the side, it msrp'd at over $34.4k That's still cheaper than the 1998 Toyota 4 Runner Limited I ordered 23 years earlier. With the new vehicle average price over $46k nowdays, it's a steal.
I wish the made something in height between the impreza wagon and the crosstrek. Back in the day, the impreza outback sport was somewhere in between. Not every car owner is taking their cars off road but the impreza wagon is really low.
Thanks for your video. I like so much this color but sadly, the only way to get the Alpine green color in Canada is by buying the Wilderness version of this 2024 Crosstrek! Also, the "Sport" version doesn't exists here.
I live in Utah and have a 2 liter Crosstrek manual transmission, with a 2.5 inch lift kit, the car performs excellent! Before I installed the lift kit, I was a little bit worry about maneuverability in curves, but the car after 4 years and more than 40,000 miles feels solid and no issues so far.
Good luck finding a dealership that's not price gouging. We're lucky to get that car at MSRP. Please quit telling your viewers the price is that low, it just isn't. Maybe 26K for the base model. Premiums go for 30K up.

What do you love about the info center? I’ve been skeptical. Would like to hear the positive.
@@edwardo737 I have it in my WRX. The only thing it's lacking for me is a temperature control knob for quick adjusting. Other than that, it's good.
@@edwardo737 The info display is just so much easier to use IMO; especially for GPS navigation with Google or Apple maps.
I snagged one of the last 2023 models because I like it better. Mechanical E-Brake, radio controls, heater controls, etc were all changed for 2024.
Thanks, just crossed the CRV off my list!
don't count on the crosstrek to fit a bike as it doesn't fit mine
@@antonroux6737 mind me asking what kind of bike you have?
@@antonroux6737 looks like it easily fit a "bigger" roadbike, my guess is that even a big montain bike would fit, just not as easily. I fitted my big electric montain bike inside a small GM equinox, I have no doubt it fits in a crosstrek.... but still id recommend a bike rack over putting it in the trunk
BTW, if you load the bike, front wheel first it fits even more easily. The front wheel can turn and fit into the space between front and back seats.
I couldn't find the home button on infotainment in my quick test drive
This is a 9/10 car. It's excellent. A hybrid would make it 10/10
I have a Forester Wilderness...live in the middle of nowhere. It's a beast in the snow even with Yokohama all terrains. Love it
Ummmm.... look at the bottom of the screen at 4:29. Home button!
Right on
How the hell have they managed to lobby for so long? The idea behind them was to be a middleman between manufacturers and customers but price gouging during the pandemic further proves they are nothing but hustlers.
Where do you go online to do just that? is there a specific website that you trust the most?
I finally found a dealer. I had to drive 1000 miles but I finally bought a car, after saving for a decade. Minnesota is where you want to buy your next NEW car. @@ctims4185
I just watched the moment you put the bike in the car. Thanks for the great demo!
Now watch a smarter person attach a proper bike rack to the hitch on his SUV and haul bikes the CORRECT WAY on an SUV!
LOL
And... the CVT?
Where possible, modern cars should adopt the BMW's iDrive controller knob that is located near the gear shifter. Easy to use and rarely select wrong function whilst driving even on uneven roads.
This car is a solid buy and checks a lot of boxes for many buyers. Definitely worth the money.
For sure! I wanted a car with good fuel economy, decent size dash display, and forward collusion avoidance (iSight), and great reliability ratings. Crosstrek ticks all the boxes...2024 Crosstrek Onyx ('Sport' in USA, 'Onyx' in Canada) on order, which should arrive Jan/Feb 2024
I hate the screens in most of the new vehicles, which look like a cheap Kindle Reader glued to the dash.

Natural aspirated engine is reliable and only problem is the cvt transmission unless they improve the reliability issue on cvt on 2024 model.
@@danielfair4675 oh good advice, even the subaru dealer they said lifetime so im due to change the cvt fluid 51k odometer.
Love your thorough, well communicated snd genuine reviews. Keep it up!
I drove one and couldn't stomach the lack of power. Drove an AWD Kia with the same HP rating and it has much more get up and go!
Buy yourself a KIA then.
@@danielfair4675 Actually I did.
@@kevinwest1607 So, you are here because.....?
You must want a Mustang. I honestly cant see how it should be fast most roads cant sustain fast cars in America anyways.
I got a sunblaze pearl one about a month ago. Rare color round here. 😆
@jodihd5702 My wife wants to trade in her cr-v for a crosstrek. Do you find the cargo space tiny compared to the cr-v?
thank you for not be obnoxious reviewer and keeping the video clean of "funny" comments
I have the 2.0 and the power is just fine for me.
I tested both size engines back to back and there is minimal difference. So I saved my money and got a 2.0 L
I bought a 2024 Crosstrek sport and just love. Comfortable, easy drive, great gas. Priced right.
$24k??? Where are you getting that number lol. Just got my premium with optional package for $30.5k
$35k here in Orlando Florida.
@@CarlosRodriguez-ox3bg DAMN LOL. my point exactly
Mine was 40k for my sport
I had cold weather package all season Matt's cargo cover rubberized back seats don't have the sheet on me but there was more
24k is the market price of the base model.
Oh, good, I'm actually riding my bike to pick my crosstrek up.
The base model is indeed 24k
In US market it is the base trim, premium, Sport, limited and wilderness.
In Canada:
Base
Premium
Onyx
Limited
Wilderness
@RetriKingOG In Canada the two lowest trims are called Convenience and Touring.
Timing belt? I think this has a timing chain, or am I wrong?
Have you looked at the prices recently??? $24K you're dreaming...
No - YOU are.
Yah starting at 34g where I live
I just brought mine for 29K....in Florida.

No he’s not 😊
I bought the Sport in that color and love it! The whole car is definitely worth the money.
I love the Subaru Crosstrek my only complaint is the tailgate has a lip and a drop instead of a smooth flat slide in.
I live in a country with very bad roads, the government is pretty much broke and maintenance is spotty to say the least. The suspension is the superpower of my 2021 XV a.k.a. Crosstrek.
In the UK, the starting price for one of these is £34,300, which is the equivalent of $44,600. That is for the base version with no options added.
Love the green color and other colors for Crosstrek, the sport looks like an excellent choice, it’s on my shortlist to buy. Good value for the money, nice interior. Thanks for review.
I like the green. I am drawn towards the offshore blue though.
My little guy is " Pure Red"
I just got an offshore blue!
Even if a rock were to hit your windshield you will be paying big money just to replace that.
isn't it covered under warranty? he is reviewing the 2024 so it should be covered until at least 2027
An XT model with the Wilderness package would be a great addition to the Subaru family.
Goes to show SUVs are not always the answer. Excellent choice, hope you enjoy it!
Sorry to hear about your xterra, Good luck!
The engine options make this a non starter for me. Why can’t they stick a 2.0L turbo in there?
It's definitely the weakest point of the car, but you have to remember, they're building to a price point. If they put the turbo engine, it would definitely be more expensive.
Thanks for the informative review. From my test drive, the suspension set up is very good giving it a nice ride and confidence in handling. But 2 things i noted hopefully the next model will address 1) the rear seats do not have air-condition vents (where I live it can be hot during the day and a rear air-condition vent helps) making it uncomfortable for the rear passenger in a hot afternoon; and 2) a small matter but hopefully Subaru will replace the cable release fuel cap cover with the modern design one where we press the cover to open and close that is much more convenient to use (example of not having to run to the driver's seat to pull fuel cap cover release lever when refueling should one forget to pull the lever once you pull up at the gas pump).
is the cvt reliable
Great review! Ive owned a 2016 and 2019 Forester as well as a 2020 Legacy. I’m thinking about downsizing to a loaded Crosstrek. Although a hybrid RAV4 has me interested.
My only complaint with my 2024 Crosstrek Sport is no real storage like sunglass holder which wouldve been a simple add & no where to put keys
I also like the kayak test. I love my CTW for ease of lifting and tying down the kayaks. Conventional SUV’s are extra lifting to get the kayak up to the roof for a 69 year old . Lol
The last thing I need it another hobby 🤣
This or the Forester?

That's not the base model. That looks like the Sport model and the price is about 30k
I just bought one and your review really helped me decide.. I think it is great on the highway and the gas mileage is excellent. Very good on bumps too for a little suv. Cheaper than Toyota too
Great to hear! Enjoy it!
The green is nice. I would consider the 2L only because I need a car for local driving, don’t really do long trips or commute.
I'm looking at the Wilderness trim. Some people have concerns about the 2024s because they were not built in Japan like the 2023s were...
yeah but all the parts are built in Japan they basically turned it into a Lego kit
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on how well the headlights do, or do not, work on the cars you drive. There's a lot of variation in effectiveness.
The headlights received the highest rating on IIHS.
I have a 2024 sport, the headlights are very good. 👍
I too have the 2024 Crosstrek and the headlights are almost as good as the headlights on my 2020 Porsche 718 with their dynamic LED package. Really impressive. The auto-brights are even better in responsiveness than the Porsche’s.
Where did you get this for $24k?! The base isn’t even that cheap. I have this exact model and it was $30k
Great car we have 2 and owned another one years ago. I won't call them bargains but they are very good values.
Yes, more practical demonstrations like the bike test.

I love the CTW. I have had mine for 2 weeks and oh so much fun and CUTE!!
The test drive with the most beautiful road scenery.
Jeez, God forbid you have to hit one button to select the drive mode??!! That's so much work. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🙄
How come, the prices start at 26k (without VAT) in the US? In the Netherlands its way way way more expensive.
I have a 24 crosstrek and never get an average of more than 23mpg whether im doing a lot of hwy driving or city.
Please tell me where I could get a car for that price I want to car dealers they told me it was 35,K 😳😩🤔😊
Nice insights. Though it reminded me why I’m unlikely to sell my Alltrack.
Can you fit a Milwaukee packout set in the trunk?
For around 25k, Crosstrek is probably the best do-it-all car you can buy, with or without AWD. It's practical, roomy, comfortable, and all-weather capable. Sure you miss out on the digital gauges and cool tech competitors offer. However, HRV doesn't offer them, Corolla Cross forces you to go up to higher trims for it, Seltos/Kona aren't that configurable even on higher trims, and Trailblazer lacks a lot of features in base form. Just a great value for me.
What's the steepest grade you've driven it up? Were you able to maintain 75 MPH driving up the grade?
Probably not loaded--not a lot of power going on here, but then again-cheap
Bike test is a big advantage over the WRX. Just wish the Crosstrek came with the 2.4 turbo.
This car with the 2.4T would be something for sure. If that's what you're looking for, the Outback Wilderness would be your best bet.

Only way the Crosstrek is a deal is if you can get one for under 30k. So many in my area are optioned into the same money as the Foresters. I'd rather spend the +32k or so for the Forester than an optioned out Crosstrek.

I optioned almost everything I could and added extras on the side, it msrp'd at over $34.4k
That's still cheaper than the 1998 Toyota 4 Runner Limited I ordered 23 years earlier.
With the new vehicle average price over $46k nowdays, it's a steal.
I wish the made something in height between the impreza wagon and the crosstrek. Back in the day, the impreza outback sport was somewhere in between. Not every car owner is taking their cars off road but the impreza wagon is really low.
You sold me, Love this car. I'm getting a green Wilderness when I can find one.
Good choice!
Just picking mine up Thursday! ℒℴ𝓋ℯ it! ❤
How tall are you that head and leg room are comfortable?
I'm 6'1.
I just watch for the bike test. I don't care if the car has 50 hp... I just want to get my bike to the trail.
Great bike test! Just what I was looking for!
Glad I could help!
Before I installed the lift kit, I was a little bit worry about maneuverability in curves, but the car after 4 years and more than 40,000 miles feels solid and no issues so far.
and the back seats? are they flat falling? or have some annoying angle?
Flat folding 😊
Good luck finding a dealership that's not price gouging. We're lucky to get that car at MSRP. Please quit telling your viewers the price is that low, it just isn't. Maybe 26K for the base model. Premiums go for 30K up.
Bought a 24 Sport a month ago for $28,400 which I felt was a great deal. As for the motor. The 2.5 feels really zippie at 800'.
Right, I just got one last week at least 10.000$ more. We think we really like the car, we are still learning this car….
