The "bike test' was the most essential moment in that video. Now I know that my bike fits the cargo area size.
Glad you found it helpful!
Buy an Outback just to be safe.
@@EatSleepDrive I HAVE A CARGO NET (oops) I guess Ideally remove the net and maybe use bungee cords on those same hooks to keep the bike secure if anything is bouncing around
Standard 8 footer lumber will fit with the hatch closed. I’ve fit 4-2x6’s and 6 2x4’s -8 foot. It was a manual so the shifter would move out the way, stayed in fourth. These are so useful for so many things. 2019 premium 6-speed. The optional anti sway bar under the hood stifles body roll really well.
same!
The bike test distinguishes you from all other auto journalists. Plus, discussing visibility vs sexy sloping roof speaks to usability. Physical buttons means unlike playstation cars, I can keep my eyes on the road.
Love your thorough, well communicated snd genuine reviews. Keep it up!
I bought a 2024 cross trek limited in the alpine green and LOVE it. New to Subaru (was a die hard Honda CRV driver) and have loved everything about the car and the brand! Great review - thank you.
I just watched the moment you put the bike in the car. Thanks for the great demo!
Helpful review, especially the bike test. And I love the color. It is also worth noting that CR's 2024 reliability ratings have the Crosstrek way out in front, so when you talk about value, that metric is a huge plus, especially compared to other cars in this class.
Nice drive. Last month I turned in a 2020 Limited, Pure Red, for a 2024 Limited in Alpine Green. Really loved the Red, but the Green warms my heart too. A little miffed that so many manual controls went from switches to the digital panel. Still learning it, and at 72, it's taking a bit longer. But it's all good, and I love the car. The only addition was adding Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter here. Appreciate the video. All the best. "The JJ", SW Penna.
I snagged one of the last 2023 models because I like it better. Mechanical E-Brake, radio controls, heater controls, etc were all changed for 2024.
I love your bike test because that’s actually one of my criteria. I would have never guessed the Crosstrek could fit your bike, while the Honda CRV could not! Thanks, just crossed the CRV off my list!
don't count on the crosstrek to fit a bike as it doesn't fit mine
@@antonroux6737 mind me asking what kind of bike you have?
@@antonroux6737 looks like it easily fit a "bigger" roadbike, my guess is that even a big montain bike would fit, just not as easily. I fitted my big electric montain bike inside a small GM equinox, I have no doubt it fits in a crosstrek.... but still id recommend a bike rack over putting it in the trunk
BTW, if you load the bike, front wheel first it fits even more easily. The front wheel can turn and fit into the space between front and back seats.
@@ASecureLab I usually run before or after I bike to cross train. While I’m running I prefer to have my bike locked inside my car. I know they can still break in but I think it’s more of a deterrent than leaving it exposed on a bike rack or hitch. Again, that’s just my preference. Good to know about your E bike fitting in an Equinox. Thanks.
I bought the Sport in that color and love it! The whole car is definitely worth the money.
I snagged one of the last ‘23 CT Outdoor’s and like someone else mentioned, I like the knobs and buttons and handbrake lever. Oh plus it has a CD player for those us who have a lot of them . LOL. Totally love my Subie. One more thing I live in the mountains of BC Canada and it is a warrior in the snow and high elevations. ❤
This car is a solid buy and checks a lot of boxes for many buyers. Definitely worth the money.
For sure! I wanted a car with good fuel economy, decent size dash display, and forward collusion avoidance (iSight), and great reliability ratings. Crosstrek ticks all the boxes...2024 Crosstrek Onyx ('Sport' in USA, 'Onyx' in Canada) on order, which should arrive Jan/Feb 2024
I hate the screens in most of the new vehicles, which look like a cheap Kindle Reader glued to the dash. All wheel drive I can take or leave.
you should watch this to see this example of how american OEMS are stealing from american car buyers th-cam.com/video/TigOGxV5ghY/w-d-xo.html
I test drove a Wilderness last night. 1. Nimble. 2. Decently quiet on the freeway. Huge improvement here. 3. Good headlights, not brightest like Toyota but average to above average. 4. High quality feeling interior (actually really nice) 5. Sporty seats and steering, amazing synthetic leather 6. At sea level not unacceptably slow, maybe the lower gears here help 7. Smooths out big bumps well, small imperfections jiggle the car 8. Good but numb steering 9. Great visibility 10. I couldn't find the home button on infotainment in my quick test drive
This is a 9/10 car. It's excellent. A hybrid would make it 10/10
I have a Forester Wilderness...live in the middle of nowhere. It's a beast in the snow even with Yokohama all terrains. Love it
Ummmm.... look at the bottom of the screen at 4:29. Home button!
What a great review thank you for this
love the bike test thank you sir
Good review and, yeah, I like the new color! Subaru's been adding some nice, newer colors to their line. 👍
It's not that the Crosstrek is so affordable. It's that prices of other AWDs are insane. The Impreza was still under $20K USD MSRP like just a year or so ago.
It's a versatile little car though. I use my 1st-gen like an SUV...hauling in the hatch, hauling on the roof, hauling on a hitch carrier, towing small trailers, offroading, commuting in snowcountry, etc. It gets better MPG hwy than even some hybrids, with my best tank averaging over 46MPG with the cruise set at 55MPH on flat ground. It has been pretty easy to work on too, but I haven't had to adjust valves, change CVT fluid, or change timing belt yet.
The ride and the rear legroom are surprisingly good for such a small car too.
Timing belt? I think this has a timing chain, or am I wrong?
thank you for not be obnoxious reviewer and keeping the video clean of "funny" comments
Great review on every day use of a Crosstrek. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
The bike test is awesome ❤❤❤. Love it.
Glad you like it!
I have two major gripes with Subaru after owning a Forester for three years: the CVT and the infotainment. I really disagree with Subaru’s desire to move to this large tablet. It’s buggy and just not functional at all. I love the knobs and buttons on my Forester. I know there’s a desire to make things “modern” with touchscreen everything; however, it’s not practical. I would contend that the prevailing majority of Subie owners err toward the practical. The infotainment issues alone were my sole reason for selling my Fozzy. I miss it all the time, but the glitchy infotainment was maddening.
Yup.
Subarus all my life and that giant awkward slab tablet is NOT Subaru function over form. Not even talking about how it performs.
Why I'm keeping a 2018 Forester forever. LOL
And... the CVT?
Where possible, modern cars should adopt the BMW's iDrive controller knob that is located near the gear shifter. Easy to use and rarely select wrong function whilst driving even on uneven roads.
Nice insights. Though it reminded me why I’m unlikely to sell my Alltrack.
I bought one in 2022 and LOVE IT...
Not sure where you get $24,000 from. Where I live, they start at $31,000 on up!

Loving the color!!! Just got mine a month ago in the alpine green and get a lot of compliments on the color. I like how the color seems to change in different lighting also. Looks kind of gray at night. Super cool color.
Enjoy it!
Love the green color too. Own a 2024 CTW in sapphire blue pearl.
Excellent review Thank you! 👍 I really like this car for my daughter who lives in NE Ohio!
Great bike test! Just what I was looking for!
Glad I could help!
What's the steepest grade you've driven it up? Were you able to maintain 75 MPH driving up the grade?
I bought the same exact vehicle a few weeks ago. Loving it so far. I enjoy the bike test. My last car, a 2013 chevy impala, had the ability to fit my road bike in it when I folded the back seats forward. I think that's a good test and am SHOCKED to hear the the CR-V couldn't fit one.
Goes to show SUVs are not always the answer. Excellent choice, hope you enjoy it!
That is really odd, especially since the Fit had the ability for the seats to fold in a certain way that did let an entire bike easily fit in the back.
An XT model with the Wilderness package would be a great addition to the Subaru family.
Thanks for the informative review. From my test drive, the suspension set up is very good giving it a nice ride and confidence in handling. But 2 things i noted hopefully the next model will address 1) the rear seats do not have air-condition vents (where I live it can be hot during the day and a rear air-condition vent helps) making it uncomfortable for the rear passenger in a hot afternoon; and 2) a small matter but hopefully Subaru will replace the cable release fuel cap cover with the modern design one where we press the cover to open and close that is much more convenient to use (example of not having to run to the driver's seat to pull fuel cap cover release lever when refueling should one forget to pull the lever once you pull up at the gas pump).
I just bought one and like it so far. Some things seem a little cheap. Passenger door wobbles when driving. Lane departure warning should be standard. HVAC controls should be manual.
Thanks for putting the bike into the trunk! An issue for me as I will be downsizing from a Forester. A bit tighter in a Crosstrek but manageable!!
Glad it helped!
That green is not available in Canada. Only on the wilderness is an available alpine green metallic. Thanks for the review, you have a nice manner and way of speaking. Clear and easy to understand, unlike other people on you tube who's speech is lazy and they are unable to form their words properly.
Still loving my 21 pyp sport crosstrek. Don't feel like the updates have quite yet improved alot for me to feel like I'm missing out
Have you looked at the prices recently??? $24K you're dreaming...
No - YOU are.
Yah starting at 34g where I live
I just brought mine for 29K....in Florida.
Being a lesbian is getting really expensive.
Good review. I just bought one last month. Its called the Onyx trim in Canada but it is basically the Sports trim . Just had our first snow and lots of ice a couple of days ago and it handled excellent even with the all season tires. No complaints so far...although the basic six speaker stereo is kinda weak
Right on! Glad you’re enjoying it
@@EatSleepDrive Eat don't Sleep while Driving ... J/K.
I was an Oil-man working for Drilling Services in Canada and USA. Back in the 1990's = Buying a Honda Accord and/ or Toyoda Camry; it cost us about 2-3k USD or $3-5k CAD less to have bought a Subaru Legacy Sedan/Wagon.
My Subaru was going where FWD Honda Accord and or Camry then could not. One other feature I loved then the most was = when you took off the Key from the Ignition Column = Light will go off disregard of it is on or off Head Light. And the Torque on the Subaru Legacy was about 142 hp; We/I drove the Legacy to Oil-drilling Pads and or Conference Hotel; White with Special Black Bra's on the Hood and Front Bumper -- wider Trim Panel than the Honda Accord or Camry Toyoda. The Original Timing-Belt last us since 1992 until 2019.
Because of high Ground Clearance; I changed oil myself = 10 minutes for Filter and Oil Change. Cost less than 15 CAD since we/I bought the whole Big 20 Gal Can; and bought when Canadian Tires store on-sale 45-55% off. I changed Oil every Quarter or 4 times a year or when I came back from a long Trip more than 3000 km. But I only changed Oil Filter twice a year.
The Subaru Cost us/me nothing since 1992 but once CV Axles and Transmission Fluid... I change Radiator Fluid Drain and refill myself every Summer. The Legacy rides us all the way until this May 2023 was stolen by a Tow Truck that tow Car breaking-down on Highway; and the Police have done nothing about; what's a shame for their Services but other things they Jumped on it like a ....
So, Subaru Legacy or Forester and now the Baby CrossTrek = Forester of Impreza always delivered what I saw Toyoda and Honda Accord could not deliver for that same Price. Of course I had a Camry V6 LE 1993 and a Peugeot 505 STI Sport Suspension that the Car would squad down when we shift to Drive Mode.
Until then Cheers, 🥂 🥂
I forgot to mention that the Legacy was starting up at minus 30°C; Where I could not plug in the Block Heater; I would start up and run Idle every 4 hr overnight; Where I went to for Work = Driving along Alaska Highway; and High Level and Yukon Territories right next to Alaska. My Legacy was set Idle at 500 RPM so it was almost cost little Gasoline to run Idle when Winter was like -37°C which is almost -35°F... 😂 😂 😆 😆
I love the Subaru Crosstrek my only complaint is the tailgate has a lip and a drop instead of a smooth flat slide in.
The platform is not really new and first arrived on the Crosstrek for the 2018 model. What the 2024 has is all new sheet metal and a claimed 10% stiffer structure from increased number of spot welds and seam adhesive. That’s why the car looks nearly the same as the older one.
That I-sight system he mentioned dies just out of the blue and hella expensive to replace. Even if a rock were to hit your windshield you will be paying big money just to replace that.
Great review. I’m thinking about getting the Limited, fully loaded. How’s the drive on the freeway? Speeds up to 60-70 mph? Comfortability is important for me. I like motoring across states. Your comments.
From SF and just purchased the limited 32 pkg in sun blaze and absolutely love it. Taken the vehicle above 80 easily, super comfortable ride, a bit jostling when going over city driving bumps in the road. Handles great in weather rain and snow too. No regrets.
I live in a country with very bad roads, the government is pretty much broke and maintenance is spotty to say the least. The suspension is the superpower of my 2021 XV a.k.a. Crosstrek.
In US market it is the base trim, premium, Sport, limited and wilderness.
In Canada:
Base
Premium
Onyx
Limited
Wilderness
I just bought one in the same color - at least it’s not white or silver!
You sold me, Love this car. I'm getting a green Wilderness when I can find one.
Good choice!
Just picking mine up Thursday! ℒℴ𝓋ℯ it! ❤
Love that color. I agree, visibility is key. Amazing that bit fits! Looks like a really good car.
I love that green! I have a 24 Crosstrek in pure red and I'd definitely trade for that green
Natural aspirated engine is reliable and only problem is the cvt transmission unless they improve the reliability issue on cvt on 2024 model.
Change the Transmission Fluid every 40k miles like the Canadian & Japanese market recommends.
Not sure why SOA thinks this is a "lifetime" fluid, when obviously it's not. Otherwise other markets wouldn't suggest servicing it.
It's not the CVT where the issue lies, it's the Valve Body Solenoid within. I couple hundred bucks every few years beats a $6500 repair. That CVT will outlast its owners.
@@danielfair4675 oh good advice, even the subaru dealer they said lifetime so im due to change the cvt fluid 51k odometer.
LOL.. so i just liked again,, when you asked if i "liked the bike test" just like i did on the prius video a few minutes ago. a gentle reminder..
I just bought one and your review really helped me decide.. I think it is great on the highway and the gas mileage is excellent. Very good on bumps too for a little suv. Cheaper than Toyota too
Great to hear! Enjoy it!
Nice presentation ❤
Yes, more practical demonstrations like the bike test.
I’m getting the 2025 sporttrek wilderness. I hv a 2015 forester now.
Mileage wise, when’s the best time to sell or trade in your Subaru?
Great video dear. Ty
Glad you enjoyed the video! Tough to say on trade in, typically cars take the biggest depreciation hit after 100k, so usually before then.
i ordered mine last May and it arrived at the end of August and i love it so far. no issues at all and drives great! though def not 24k like he said lol it was 36k and that was just the premium model which is less than what hes showing.
The base model is indeed 24k
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on how well the headlights do, or do not, work on the cars you drive. There's a lot of variation in effectiveness.
The headlights received the highest rating on IIHS.
I have a 2024 sport, the headlights are very good. 👍
I too have the 2024 Crosstrek and the headlights are almost as good as the headlights on my 2020 Porsche 718 with their dynamic LED package. Really impressive. The auto-brights are even better in responsiveness than the Porsche’s.
Great video. I like the forest green color my self however that color is an extra $395..00 more . But again great informative video, ty.
$395 is a cheap upgrade if you want it.
I also like the kayak test. I love my CTW for ease of lifting and tying down the kayaks. Conventional SUV’s are extra lifting to get the kayak up to the roof for a 69 year old . Lol
The last thing I need it another hobby 🤣
I drove one and couldn't stomach the lack of power. Drove an AWD Kia with the same HP rating and it has much more get up and go!
Buy yourself a KIA then.
@@danielfair4675 Actually I did.
@@kevinwest1607 So, you are here because.....?
I just got the base 2023, 8 months ago manual, 25K Canadian, 21K US, cheaper than a VW Golf or Civic, for a WAY better car. The 2.0L is certainly adequate at sea level, not amazing but quicker than most give it credit for…. The 2.5L is powerful I’ve seen pick up insanely on the highway. I prefer the exterior of the 24 better, more cladding, slightly sharper look, but the interior of the 23 is better, nicer looking more physical buttons.
I like the green. I am drawn towards the offshore blue though.
My little guy is " Pure Red"
I just got an offshore blue!
The mechanic refused to fix my Nissan XTerra, it has reached its end of life and he said it’s not worth it to spend thousands that I could use as a down payment on a new car. I am so glad that Subaru has a manual transmission. I am going out later to test drive one.❤
Sorry to hear about your xterra, Good luck!
Love the green, really hate the yellow accents.
Thanks for your video. I like so much this color but sadly, the only way to get the Alpine green color in Canada is by buying the Wilderness version of this 2024 Crosstrek! Also, the "Sport" version doesn't exists here.
Oh, good, I'm actually riding my bike to pick my crosstrek up.
The official car of Asheville NC & Denver CO
I wish they didn't have those accent colors on Sport and Wilderness.
I'm loving my 2024 Crosstrek. I love Subaru's implementation of adaptive cruise control. I drove a Camry for a while and hated its adaptive cruise control. You had to reset it to your preference every time you started the car. The Crosstrek will adjust the speed all the way down to a full stop. The Camry's cruise would disengage at 20 MPH and you'd have to hit the brakes manually.
The Crosstrek has "I" and "S" modes. The "S" mode gives peppier driving, but disengages when the car is shut off. Wish it would keep my preferred mode when shut off.
Jeez, God forbid you have to hit one button to select the drive mode??!! That's so much work. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🙄
The color is great
I use quick release to pull the front wheel off my bike; I can get it in and out before the person in the next car can unstrap their Thule (mine was $25K, tiny touchscreen, 6M and the lowest power engine I think Subaru has ever made; easy oil change tho, and I love it like a golden retriever 😅)
My only complaint with my 2024 Crosstrek Sport is no real storage like sunglass holder which wouldve been a simple add & no where to put keys
I'm torn between the Limited and the Wilderness. EIther way, one of them will be my next vehicle.
Great car we have 2 and owned another one years ago. I won't call them bargains but they are very good values.
Nice review! Should've completely stopped at the 10:30 stop sign though. 😊😊
I'm looking at the Wilderness trim. Some people have concerns about the 2024s because they were not built in Japan like the 2023s were...
yeah but all the parts are built in Japan they basically turned it into a Lego kit
I just bought that car, in that color. And you just drove by my house.
MSRP means nothing nowadays because dealer will sell it thousands above the MSRP, plus tax, plus destination fees, etc. you’re looking at 5-10k above advertised price at least
Love the color big reason I bought it
I 100% would have bought one of these (got Forester instead), but 2024 CROSSTREK IS A REDESIGN YEARS, FOLKS! Reliability frequently takes a hit on redesign years for MANY makes and models out there--even traditionally reliable Toyotas and Subarus. Call me superstitious, but I "PERSONALLY" just don't want to take the chance. Maybe will be back for the 2026. Certainly looking forward to it!
Bike test is a big advantage over the WRX. Just wish the Crosstrek came with the 2.4 turbo.
This car with the 2.4T would be something for sure. If that's what you're looking for, the Outback Wilderness would be your best bet.
@@EatSleepDrive We bought a new Outback Wilderness this past weekend. Loving it.
Good video except the price I think you’re really low on the base price at least the one you were driving the sport and I’m looking at the wilderness Crosstrek loaded right at 36,000 area little more than what you’re talking about!! But still great video!!!
Please tell me where I could get a car for that price I want to car dealers they told me it was 35,K 😳😩🤔😊
How tall are you that head and leg room are comfortable?
I'm 6'1.
Gained a subscriber based on the bike test
I am looking at buying a new car in the next 6 months and I keep finding myself torn between a 2024 crosstrek wilderness and a 2021 Lexus RX350. The cost is close to the same but I know the V6 8 Speed Transmission will last 500,000 miles 😅
my wife has the 2.0, but we in florida. she has no idea its slow 😂
Sometimes the less you know the better 😂
Only way the Crosstrek is a deal is if you can get one for under 30k. So many in my area are optioned into the same money as the Foresters. I'd rather spend the +32k or so for the Forester than an optioned out Crosstrek.
I ordered/bought a loaded '21 Limited, it based at $29045.
I optioned almost everything I could and added extras on the side, it msrp'd at over $34.4k
That's still cheaper than the 1998 Toyota 4 Runner Limited I ordered 23 years earlier.
With the new vehicle average price over $46k nowdays, it's a steal.
Top notch, no doubt
The engine options make this a non starter for me. Why can’t they stick a 2.0L turbo in there?
It's definitely the weakest point of the car, but you have to remember, they're building to a price point. If they put the turbo engine, it would definitely be more expensive.
I wish Subaru would offer a real leather option for Wilderness Trims
I'm not a fan of the StarTex either. Animal hair sticks to it worse than cloth. Haven't dumped a soda on it yet.. supposed to wipe right up
Is it got bigger trunk? Usually Subaru doesn’t grow
WHAT?
I call BS on the bike fitment test, in his review of the CRV the same Diamondback fit in the back of the CRV without taking the front wheel off but the larger Santa Cruz did not, he never showed trying the Santa Cruz in the Crosstrek.
@@FlfreedomListen what he says while loading the Diamondback bike in the Crosstrek at the 5:50 mark, he said the larger CRV could accomplish it, then look at the CRV review at 6:00 he started with the larger Santa Cruz, wouldn’t fit without removing the front tire but the same Diamondback that he fit in the Crosstrek easily fit in the CRV. He never tried fitting the larger Santa Cruz that didn’t fit in the CRV into the Crosstrek
It's got a roof rack, quit crying.
Good luck finding a dealership that's not price gouging. We're lucky to get that car at MSRP. Please quit telling your viewers the price is that low, it just isn't. Maybe 26K for the base model. Premiums go for 30K up.
The only thing holding me back from the purchase is the difficult informat system and the poor gas mileage
I personally hate all safety systems, get them out, I'm driving, save me some money, all these safety systems mean more expensive windshield replacements, calibrations, snow covered radar seasons - just stuff that we do not need, FYI - LED lights do not do great at melting snow on the indicator lights - I really wish someone would review that item - LED lights become useless when covered with snow, old incandescent used to melt the cover
I love my Crosstrek
Watched at least 6 of these road tests boasting how great of a deal this is, except a $5,000. increase.
Your not getting out of the dealership for $24,000, even for the base. I've been shopping/driving these and they are at least $28,500 with zero upgrades. Most are over $30,000 easy. In a couple years, it will be rattling and vibrating like most cheap vehicles. Good review though!
In Canada it starts at 31k 😢
try 49,000 for a wilderness model in Canada
My 2024 crosstrek was almost $35000 for premium
