2024 Volvo EX30 Range FULL GayCarBoys Review HD
Is Volvo EX30 Possibly the Best Volvo Yet?
Full written review and specifications HERE: gaycarboys.com/gio-and-i-drive-the-all-new-electric-volvo-ex30-the-the-barossa/car-reviews-by-brand/volvo-reviews/
Since I was a boy, Volvo gave me happy vibes. The cars simply screamed “Safe, secure, comfortable,” but they looked extremely conservative. As the decades passed, the boxiness became sleeker-n- chicer, and the EX30 is the latest iteration.
Volvo is distancing itself from performance off0shoot, Polestar, too. Volvo has been funding Polestar after splitting the nameplate off as an entity unto itself. Volvo in turn, is owned by Geely. Geely started in 1986, entered the auto market in 1997, and acquired Volvo from Ford in 2010. Since then Volvo has flourished, free of interference from Detroit.
Volvo’s fleet has been given the waving over of a magic wand. The brand no longer sells diesel cars, switching to petrol/electric hybrid and pure electric models instead. There is a tantalizing promise of being pure electric in 2026, something most established brand can’t possibly hope match.
That segues neatly to the neat, sweet, and petite, EX30.
While the single motor has “Plus and Ultra”, the dual motor only comes in “Ultra” trim. We drove both a single and a dual motor model and a preference was as clear as mud. Like other Volvos, its eco credentials are tracked by blockchain technology which allows accurate assessment of its environmental impact from cradle to grave.
Decisions, decisions!

2023 GWM Ora Ext Range Review THE CHEAPEST EV AVAILABLE review - Alan Zurvas

The cheeky little GWM Ora is on special and is now the cheapest EV in Australia. The prices quoted in our video run out on the 31st of March, reduced in response to other manufacturers. Loved your review.
Average Review.
Don't purchase this item by itself as you can't purchase the rear camera down the track all knows it has the input to connect the rear camera and to spend around $ 350 not to be able to purchase the rear camera spend extra $ 100 and buy it as a daul camera pack instead but if you don't need the rear camera then just buy as a single camera for the price for around $350
The price is much higher then that
Do you think Standard Range(LFP) will be enough also? Or Extended Range(NCM) is much better?
extended, but it depends on your use case
I really hate that so many EV manufacturers use these funky door handles. I want a regular door handle. Is that too much to ask?
i wonder what happens when they go wrong?
@@gaycarboys i bet it costs a lot more money than with a normal door handle
Excellent review. I can’t believe though we are looking at over $100000 for a midrange people mover. Have we been subtly brainwashed into accepting this as the norm? People movers are clearly bought by large families. We still own our first model 7 seat Honda Odyssey and it cost the same as Holden Calais new and apart from the height was about the same dimensions. Not cheap then but served the same purpose as this. It’s been utterly trouble free (when Honda were top of their game) apart from one minor alternator rebuild and usual servicing. We raised our family in it and found it perfect for city driving and great for country trips but could have used more power on steep hills and boot space with all seats in use. But it does have a space saver. Would we be able to afford this model if we were looking today for its electric equivalent? No way! Where are we heading Alan?
100% right. remember (as we said in the written review) half of the price is the battery which should last the life of the car. But i did ask how many 5-kid families could possibly afford 140k for the GT-Line!
Not criticising you or your review, just the stupidity of creating such a vehicle. We are yet to see if the battery will last the life of the vehicle. One ill advised off road adventure and an unexpected rock puncturing the battery and there you go.
Pity Nissan Australia hasn't released a more rugged version such as the 'Rock Creek' model in the states. A 'Dingo Track' version here would be my choice in that Tan colourway with extra ruggedness. I own a classic r50 2000 Pathy
That isnt a place to tie the shopping too....they fold down the middle row seats
Audi doesn’t give us the sportback in a phev variant in the US :(
Nice no frills car for the person who just weekly travelling is to the Bridge / Bowls Club, the local IGA, Chemist and Dan Murphys. I like them!
Pity Kia spent the money on all the fancy extras instead of a decent engine, 5 speed auto, proper rear seating and a nicer ride. I could live without all those drivers aids in such an entry level car. Mazda managed a proper 1.5L engine, excellent auto, great handling and a proper back seat when they released the Mazda2 over 20 years ago. Ours is still going strong. Kia seem to simply have got their priorities wrong. Look for a secondhand Mazda 2 instead.
of course the mazda2 cost more in the first instance
Agreed but my point is Kia seems to put too much emphasis on bells and whistles and not the fundamentals. That power output is unacceptable in my view as is the rear seating and boot space. I simply couldn’t see it as a good choice for a first car. A second hand Mazda or Yaris etc would be a better choice in my view.
Everything you need for a suburban runabout; keep part of the back seat down permanently for the trip to the supermarket. Needs a sixth gear for Sydney/ Newcastle, Melbourne/Geelong or Brisbane/Sunshine Coast. All the safety gear; great for a first car or older folk who've lost the need for speed.
Great Looking Car. Ruined it by loosing the 1 litre turbo. Overseas models got keyless entry. Push start Sunroof. Too expensive for the lack of features. Especially against the new 2024 MG3.
we pointed out the chinese cars in th written review. much cheaper and at least as good a drive.
They can shove that car and their obnoxious prices up their a@@. Much better vehicles out there for a lot less.
Well balanced and very fair review. Overpriced, especially when all those options are added. 1.5L turbo producing a very modest output presumably for fuel consumption. Except you were unable to even get close during your test drive. And I dislike the DCT transmission especially for city driving too. And why no space saver when there is room for one? Far better out there. For example Our married daughter bought a Mazda CX30 when needing a compact SUV urgently for imminent arrival of our grandson and there was a shortage of cars following Covid etc. it was, I think, $42000 or a bit less top model and came with 2.5L normally aspirated petrol engine, traditional 6 speed automatic and space saver tyre. They love it. VW, you have bombed out again. The four circles badge and nice ( extra) paint don’t hide it as being an overpriced VW Polo.
there is no doubt 4 rings costs. i guess it is horses for courses
I would say the Arteon is upper class
certainly a very nice thing, for sure
i do have this camera with the rear one too, the isplay is not as good as i expected from a 4k camera. Image looks very average
interesting. Have you tried any other brands?
Love your reviews, especially when David joins you. You make a great double act. For $120000 or more drive away and 2.1 tonnes, and remember it’s just a very well made upmarket VW. And what’s with the huge centre tunnel and the ridiculously small boot with no under floor cable storage and bet there’s no spare. Just can’t see it attracting any more buyers to EVs. Plenty of competition out there I’m sure. Could you tell us what it’s up against?
the BMW IX's, Mercedes EQs and i suppose a tesla model Y. stunning to drive though....
Thank you. I think I would go for the BMW every time ahead of the Audi and certainly the Tesla if I wanted buy at this price point which I certainly don’t.
@@WazzaG076 it would depend on what they were like to drive, back to back
True. Haven’t driven any but going by previous experience with driving son in law’s ICE BMW and their experiences. Thanks.
@@WazzaG076 one thing i've noticed is that there is less difference in the drive experience of EVs compared to ICE. not sure why. perhaps the ICE counted more towards the experience than i thought
Having had five Audis in my past, this is certainly an aspirational vehicle. Great Audi finish and comfort with a bit of grunt. Ideal for urban running or some out of town trips.
I have a 2019 Outlander Sport GT 2.4 liter here in the U.S. ASX or RVR everywhere else in the world. I have all the bells and whistles except for the moon roof. It's a great car that I leave in two wheel drive unless the weather is bad, then I can put it in all wheel drive and even four wheel lock if it's off road or snowing. Overall, it's a great little SUV.
I have one too and my old Ford had dual zone air-conditioning and found it a complete waste of time lol. you can only set zones a few degrees apart😂 not worth it. I much prefer the no nonsense Mitsubishi asx air-conditioning knobs over tiny button dual zone nonsense. that's why I like the asx no nonsense and I adjust the air-conditioning without looking unlike touchscreen nonsense. fun fact there is air-conditioning vents in the rear they're under the two front seats 😁
Great review
EVs in USA have dropped a lot %. If you just go EV buy a demo or used unless you plan on keeping it for a long time. They will depreciate
that's not so. The rate of increase may have slowed slightly. According to Forbes, "47% y-o-y in 2023 are are projected to be up 32% in 2024." so I think we can still say the growth is substantial.
If you buy secondhand I think you need to find someone to warrant the integrity of the battery pack and also get a decent replacement warranty on the battery pack.
@@WazzaG076 yes to both. batteries usually get 8 year warranty and it is transferable. i think it is 70% efficiency? if less than that at end of warrnty it is replaced. i assume it also has a warranty but am not sure.
A balanced review as always. But a grandpa’s car for those with more money than good sense. Way too expensive. I am a grandpa but intend to buy my last car this year but a petrol model before they all become extinct. I plan to buy my 4th Alfa, a Giulia, either a TI or Veloce, to see out my days. Won’t cost me anything like this car to buy and run especially with depreciation and the driving pleasure will be immeasurable, I know. Have always swum against the tide. I do have the same Alfa mechanic, still, after 24 years so just need to test drive when well enough and then start looking. 😁
if you love you Alfa then go for it. they are lovely to drive.
Thanks mate. Always enjoy your reviews, you both being mature men like me. You bring such expertise and professionalism to your road tests and so I try to comment each time as I feel you deserve a much larger following. Sorry if I am so verbose but have been housebound for over 12 months, diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer and endured the most horrible treatment. Finished in early December and the outcome does seem very promising. Then suddenly last week I am feeling so much better.👏 So all men over 50 please go get checked.
Does this has ambient lighting
that's a very old review. unsure what it had now
Enjoyed your review as ever. Sorry, $102000 for an upmarket VW with an annoying DSG transmission. And that swoopy rear end sure is attractive but purely style over substance. Looks good but rear legroom and boot are unnecessarily compromised and what no spare wheel? A fail for me. 😗
i must admit i'd prefer a spare too. but it GOES:)
Thanks guy's for your great review. Brought a new Gt 130 8speed auto in fusion orange 8 10 months ago. Absolutely love the car and no problems or recalls. Highly recommended and one of the best looking cars in the carpark. Keep up the brilliant work.
What a beautiful car and what a joy to be able to drive it. I’d be looking for tunnels everywhere just to hear the sound of that glorious V8. Great review, thank you.
absolutely right. It sounded amazing
Piano black can be polished, just take care not to scratch it.
Ah yes, my favorite SUV! But for now, I call it the Alfa Cantaffordglio !!
that's very clever. might steal that;)
The ultimate uber prestige
dead posh;) you could do a long trip in the back
I’ve bored you silly with my previous comments of having taken around 50 journeys in Lexus cabs as a result of Prostate Cancer, first tests and then treatment. This was with a company which uses Lexus hybrids exclusively, possibly the NX SUV, and except for the price I wouldn’t consider anything else in the range. I’ve chatted about the vehicle, whenever I had a fresh driver and without exception they all rave: lovely to drive, utterly trouble free, great dealer support and pretty good fuel economy. As a passenger I can’t fault them. They are so beautifully built, very comfortable and so elegant. When you get in one with 300000km yet it still feels like a new car you can see why they sell so well. The price of your test car is a bit of a shock but I can see why you liked it so much. Nice review.
never bored! i'd love to have a go in the LS400 and see how it feels after all this time
An EV one can truly lust after
I cannot tell you how gorgeous it is to drive
@@gaycarboys I need one!
Good review as ever. I like the way Mazda are heading. A lot of money but so is the opposition but with Mazda quality and reliability. If this is in your price range certainly worth short listing. After sales service is excellent with Mazda. Have you noticed how many Mazda you see on the road? For a such a small company they must be doing something right.
2nd biggest retailer in the country after Toyota so not surprised really. we have the smaller ones coming up soonish
Correction: at 0:50 you mentioned Takumi package as $50,000. It's only $5000.
Had another Lexus taxi trip Thursday to the hospital following lengthy treatment for Stage 4 prostate cancer to see Professor. The company uses exclusive Lexus cars and to kill the time I ask every new drivers how they find the car. I find the cars so beautifully built, finished and comfortable and every driver loves them. They are so trouble free. One cabby said “how many kms did I think it had covered”? I guessed 100 thousand from the ride and appearance and he laughed and said it had just been in for its four hundred thousand kilometre service. It was still like new and apart from fluid changes it only needed new front brake pads. In the past year I have had at least 26 Lexus trips (almost all SUVs) and the cars all felt and looked like new. Just had to pass this on. By the way the cancer is in remission but the treatment has left me so sick. Really enjoy your reviews.
Mate I am so glad, so very very glad for you. Thanks very much for passing that on.
I also added you comment to the written review.:)
Thank you. That’s very much appreciated.
If it used the Insignia or Regal name then Holden might still be in production.
insignia already failed twice. Maybe regal might have worked
Does it record our speed?
all driving data, date, and position
I know it's cheap and it's an EV, but l tend to think a mazda 2 or 3 in the base model would be a better proposition especially in the long term and resale. Just saying?
hard to say. it the Ora stays together for the warranty period i'd probably rather have that, but i like mazda 2 and 3 as well
when comparing future resale, try selling any combustion car in 5 years time with current emission standard targets and incentives for EV. In Qld, you can buy this car for $30k with $6k from State Gov. Even if you get 5 years life from it and throw it out, its still compelling.
love ur reviews as always. I have just picked up my Kona Premium, with 19's. The downside is you cannot request 17's, as the 19's are standard. In the UK & Europe you have the option but not in Australia :( They are not even available on the accessories section of the Hyundai website!!!
now that IS interesting i'll try and remember to ask their product manager. Make sure you let us know how the car goes though. we were really impressed. we're alway looking for a couple of paragraphs and pics of reader's cars if you're interested
There is a compliance plate on the inside of B pillar of the drivers door showing what size tyres are permitted to be fitted. @@gaycarboys
to topt for small wheel size you have to get one that has them fitted already? which sounds a bit daft
Love your reviews when David joins you, Alan. You each bring different perspectives to the cars and the humorous exchanges are a delight. Pleased to see the Koreans are competing so well with the Chinese. Hyundai (and I assume now Kia) has quite an established reputation now in quality and after sales service. Nice review.
you're right. it was a great car. i just gave back an Ora and picked up a Jaguar F Type. It has been a mixed bag but all 3 cars have been brilliant. the Jag is an absolute weapon
Why gay
Oh Subaru what have you done? Nice looking, beautifully built, all the bells and whistles but underpowered, very average fuel consumption, rather cramped and that awful CVT transmission. A miss for me for a brand I once really admired.
no doubt sill incredibly capable but i simply couldn't understand the economy.
I wish there was an app leading to a host of selections regarding noises that are just a pain to live with. One should be able to go into this section and select all the noises you DON’T want to hear your car make and select to turn them off PERMANENTLY. This should be linked to your key so that if more than one person uses the car they can put their preferences in as well.
completely agree. in fact most noises in cars are annoying
can someone bppease explain in some markets eg USA get the 2.5 eng which i presume its from the Forrest but here were stuck with the 2.0 wjen coupled with AWD feels grossly underpowered
i teeny little turbo would sort it out;)
I've been looking to buy for a long time now, what l have found is you you have two choices either a 1.5 turbo powered vehicle with a dual clutch or a vehicle powered by a two litre under powered motor with a CVT. l'm a 76 year old self funded retirement, but l'm not dead quite yet and would love a vehicle that had a bit more power for the highway and a conventional auto transmission. The closest love come is a Mazda 3 GT or Astina. Thanks for your review it has been worthwhile and considering all the safety features on the Subaru it's worth a test drive. Always look forward to your reviews.
abdolsutley right. Subaru could easily put a small turbo on, but i think their fear is that turbos and more power on lower models would not give people enough incentive to buy WRX
Our daughter and her husband had their first child due over a year ago when vehicles were in extremely short supply and needed a suitable safe city SUV for carrying our grandson plus for occasional country trips. After test driving all available small SUVs they loved the Mazda CX30 and were able to obtain a new Astina which has a 2.5L naturally aspirated four with a traditional six speed automatic. This would be a direct competitor for the Crosstrek, I believe, but with more power and superior handling, better fuel economy but no dreaded CVT. Build quality and finish are very impressive indeed. Test drive one at least as the children are delighted with the Mazda.
Boring for some; but reliable, safe and well equipped. The omission of LED headlamps on the base model is stingy. Obviously the CVT transmission is not assisting fuel economy,
agreed. the CVT is the reason claimed for use. we thought the economy figure was disappointing
This car gives me queer as folk vibes. I loved that show. But this car is not for me. Lovely review though
As an Alfa lover I think you have really summed up the Tonale. I love the looks but otherwise feel it just misses the mark. If I wanted an SUV I would prefer a second hand Stelvio. Stellantis are ruining the make. I can only pray they change their mind about Alfa going fully electric. And fancy an Alfa with vague steering?
Lukily stellantis are leaving Alfa more or less alone. Mito was awful and way before Stellantis days. the steering was VERY precise, it just had no feeling. If you've ever driven an old DS citroen, it felt like that, no feeling but incredibly direct
Glad to read it. My ownership of three Alfas over 35 years were a Berlina, an Alfetta & a Giulietta. All ancient now with rear wheel drive, manual steering and gearbox and no abs. You felt such a direct contact with the road that dead steering and a dual clutch would be such an anathema. After the Giulia and Stelvio what happened?
i bet you wish you still had them though. they'd be worth bucks now
Ciao. Ti faccio una domanda. I motori Ingenium Diesel hanno avuto numerosi problemi. Ti chiedo se il tuo Ingenium a benzina ha problemi. Grazie
No I don't think the petrol engines have had the same problems as the diesel engines
@@gaycarboys se i benzina hanno avuto gli stessi problemi del diesel...direi che la F-Type è una macchina da non comprare. Pensavo che i motori a benzina non avessero problemi
It makes no difference now anyway. The F-Type will shortly cease production and is not being replaced
@@gaycarboys si che fa la differenza, per tutti coloro che la vogliono comprare !
