In the golden years 1970s, you were offered a free pack of Peter Stuyvs when you boarded the plane. These days, smoking on a plane is treated worse than having a bomb in your underpants. How times have changed.

@@4xoverland hi there Im trying to find the 1994, 1995 Peter Stuyvesant Cinema Adverts in South Africa for over 20 years can you please advise me how to
I can remember back in the 80s cigarette commercials were just as dominating as any of the commercials dominate the TH-cam videos today they were very infectious
Cigarette commercials stopped on TV in the late seventies, but continued in cinemas until the late eighties. After that, for about four years, 7-min specials, like the other Peter Styvesant Californis clip, also on shortfinals, were permitted.
Zimbabwe and Indonesia and north korea is the only places where you still find cigg ads.I didnt believe it but I saw it my own eyes in zimbabwe and indonesia. Im not sure about north korea to but they didnt sign the WHO tabbaco thingy so yea.
Peter Blue were my brand before I quit that shit. I started in the late 90’s so never really saw these ads but Peter Styversant were the only cigarettes that didn’t taste like complete crap yo me
I just bought a pack of styvos today but they in this country they have no brand logos and just a picture of a diseased lung on them. lol . They still have that smooth styvo quality taste though.... ahhhh!
I was hoping to see the peter stuyvesant ad where they had the golden beaches of cancun......also in the ad......this is still the best ads Ive eved seen that bring back the most awsome memories.....
Here in the U.S., it is shocking to know that there were any cigarette commercials after 1971, when they were banned here. U.S. commercials used to be just as long as this, too.
In the late '90's, I purchased a package of Stuyvesants at the local Texaco gas station in St.Albert, Alberta, Canada (they literally had 200 different brands of cigarettes available-and would personally order obscure brands for customers) Unfortunately, mine were stale, but came in a very attractive gold, flip-top box. The biggest brands here are du Maurier, Players, Export "A" etc. Now, that gas station is an Esso (totally "remodeled") and has forever lost the cool vibe.
I agree smoking is cool and good for action loving interesting people! Look through history. The first time you see James Bond on Dr No is when he lights up cigarette. Winston Churchill was a smoker! Bruce Willis smoked in the original Die Hard movie. Clint Eastwood smoked in spaghetti westerns, Arnie Schwarzenegger smokes cigars and so on. At my college it's the interesting guys who smoke, those who don't smoke have nothing better to do and are boring. Smoking makes for good conversation and it makes you look cool. You can chill out with a cigarette after a lecture or after a long day and discuss things better. Its cheaper and safer than alcohol, it's not illegal or dangerous to ride a car or motorbike after a ciggie like it is after booze.
ELPaso1990TX Nobody can stop you from smoking if you want to, but I'm interested as to why you think it makes you look cool? In the eyes of non-smokers, it doesn't look cool at all. We just think you've made a really bad decision and now are addicted, especially when you have to leave a conversation with your friends and go outside in a rainstorm just to smoke. It is the opposite of cool, it's essentially paying for chemical enslavement. On the other hand, perhaps in the eyes of fellow smokers they feel some kind of connection to you and automatically relate to you in some way. I used to smoke, and I used to enjoy smoking, but I never once thought I looked cool to others while I was doing it, sometimes I felt embarrassed because my friends didn't like the smell, didn't want to breathe in the smoke etc. I don't understand why you think it's cool.
+ELPaso1990TX Yes it's very cool. Especially if you like to have stinky breath, yellow teeth, shortness of breath, emphysema, lung/throat cancer, coughing up big slimy phlegm coated 'golf balls' each morning etc. And of course be a slave to niccotine addiction as well, of which less than 20% of people will ever be able to give up. Oh, yes, you're right, it makes for some really great conversation, like, .." oh, I've just come back from my doctor and he's told me that my lungs are all fucked up and the xray has just shown a rather nasty dark spot on one of my lungs that he thinks could be cancerous and he wants to get me admitted to hospital ASAP for some urgent further tests"
Billboard advertising of cigarettes was banned in the USA in April of 1998. Cigar/Chewing tobacco TV commercials was banned in the USA in 1986. Cigarette TV commercials were banned in the USA on Jan. 2, 1971. Commercial free speech, as guaranteed by the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, is very narrowly defined to practically non-existent. Sad but true.
Fuck, I don't smoke but why should we have a cancer ad on every fucking pack. It is like putting a picture of mutilated crash victim on every car at your local car dealer.
Was a Chesterfield teen but changed to Styvoz SOFT PACK when doing National Service, my favourite Ciggy Soundtrack was the Rothmans theme tune radio add, any chance of digging that up? Even though this type of add had a huge impression on me I gave up at 26.
Ok this solves a little mystery for me. I collect shot glasses and I picked one up at a yard sale that had Peter Stuyvesant on it, with a signature. And I always wondered why a Dutch colonial was on a shot glass from a hotel in Buffalo.
It's not even all the diseases associated with smoking that bother me, it's the fact that you become a slave to the damn smoke. I hate it! I am so glad I quit and I never looked back. Smoking is definitely fun and enjoyable, but sometimes you just start feeding yourself with those damn smokes for no reason.
