    I definitely enjoyed your first 6 parts of your equipment tour on your Oliver/White tractors. I am also an Oliver enthusiast and have farmed with them all my life - and will continue to do so. My collection is not anywhere near as extensive as yours. I have a 77, Super 88, 1550, 1650, and a White 2-110. They get the job done!

    Thanks again Chris for another great video! I remember the first time I ever saw an Oliver tractor I was about 10. My Dad had a friend who was the maintenance man at the local hospital. He bought one with a snow blower for cleaning the parking lot during the winter. I remember my Dad telling me that Oliver's were no longer made.

    Yes, turbocharged 310 has sweet sound to my ear from factory . The other one was the D301 Allis Chalmers. I think the reason was turbo bost to get them over 100hp to run with the 100 inch larger displacement naturally aspirated tractors in their class from JD and IH. Also spot on about Saginaw power steering vs Charlyn.

It is as you described from the museum. it's on my list of things to eventually restore it does currently run with a little help. I believe it has about 1700 hours is all. It is all original with no overhauling. My family is the second owner . We got it in the early 80s.
    The story is it was used as a show tractor and taken to county fairs.

    Couldn't help to notice those Goodyear Power Torques tires on the duals of the 2255. They worked awesome for duals since most radials are larger diameter, and that they grabbed really nice in worked ground.

    I’ve got an original 1855 with 32xx hours I pulled from a barn earlier this year. Has a cab in it. I’m guessing the turbo causes all the trouble on the 310s?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a source. There biggest problem was the 2 piece wrist pin bushings. They worked ok in lower horsepower applications, but the extra pressure and heat of the turbo put more stress on them. Most 1855s came with no oil cooler, so the heat built up in the oil, breaking it down and accelerating the demise of those wrist pin bushings.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maibach tractor reproduces all of the factory exhaust parts for the 2255. Other guys have gotten exhaust manifolds from a 2-180 or similar and made custom exhaust the joins in a Y in front of the engine. If it's done right it looks and works great. The factory setup goes under the engine to a Y, and up the front. You've got to pull the engine to replace that, plus it puts a lot of heat near the oil pan. Maibach might be able to help with the modified version as well. As much as I like original tractors, I think I am going to modify mine when I get a chance.

  • @colinwallace5286

    I thought the larger silver Whites were Moline based, with that rear set cab and long hood. Also, didn’t the engines in those have those separated cylinder pairs?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only silver tractor based on a Minnie Mo was the White 2-150. That used a MM engine with cylinder pairs. The 2-150 used an Oliver drive train and hydraulics.

    • @colinwallace5286
      @colinwallace5286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris A family friend had one of those. Probably that’s the one I’m thinking of. An N14 Cummins is like that, but it has separate heads as well. You had to get the liner height correct, and all the fasteners torqued correctly, or things would start walking around. Thanks for further education.

    Question? Did any of the 2255 tractors have a turbo? Some of those muscle tractors that guys put turbos on did not fare well? I’ve read where some of the Oliver’s were a little underpowered and when you they put turbos on them they failed. Biggest issue not enough oil capacity?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2255 did not come with a factory turbo. Oliver did have an issue with the 1600 being under powered, and because of that they started their Certified Horsepower rating. Every tractor that rolled off the line was put on a dyno and tested. A certified decal was placed on the tractor with the horsepower reading and signed by the dyno operator. Most turned over the advertised horsepower, but if for some reason a tractor did not, it was pulled back in and checked over for what might be causing the low horsepower and corrected. The 1855 had the trouble you mention. The factory put a turbo on it without adding an oil cooler or oil capacity. The extra heat would make the oil break down quicker, causing failures.

    • @richardpoe2461
      @richardpoe2461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello, I was wondering with the 55 series they had some problems. Was that more with people trying to do more than they should have with with them? Or more of an oversight in the design?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest trouble maker was the 1855. They put a turbo on it, but no oil cooler. There were some designs for the engine that needed updated, mostly the 2 piece wrist pin bushings. Some guys always have to turn up the fuel, and I'm sure some can be attributed to that. There was eventually a program to replace the 1855 engine with a 1955 engine. They were both 310 cubic inches, but the 1955 engine had the built in oil cooler, and that made a big difference on reliability. They were trying to keep the price of the 1855 down compared to the 1955, and it cost them in the long run.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

      For the small end, it would have to be the 1250-A, which was made by Fiat for Oliver. As far as models Oliver actually built, it would be the 1600. On the big end, that depends on how you define big. Physically, the articulated 2655 was the biggest 4 wheel drive with the Oliver name, but the 2255 had more horsepower.

      My friend Alan has a cab at my place off a 1650. I think it's a Hiniker, if I had to guess the brackets would not be correct for a large frame Oliver like an 1800. The filler plates for around the hood wouldn't be right either.

      Facebook marketplace is having more of that kind of stuff listed, I occasionally see some listed on Craigslist as well. There's a great website called searchtempest that can search all of Craigslist quick and easy.

    I just picked up a 59 oliver 880 gasser!! How do you identify the ring and pinion through the serial number. Serial number is 69986-834! Love your videos keep them coming!!!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the 3 digits at the end of the serial number is the transmission code, 834. They list them in the factory service manual. but 834 is 10/47 ring and pinion, with power booster drive.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a 4-115, which is the Industrial version of the 1950 with the GM diesel. The 2-115 is the same tractor, but 2 wheel drive. I sold my 4-115 to buy Herman.

      They pop up here and there. One of the Oliver engineers told me that the 1555 was selling so slow that Oliver gave some of the extra engines to local vocational schools. Most customers were opting for the 1655 that was physically the same size, with more power.
