Oliver 1950 and White 2-155: DETROIT and HERCULES diesel power!

  • The hay is off the field, the sod has been plowed under, it's time to disc it down and get the soybeans in the ground so they can start growing. Pulling the White 271 disc is my Detroit Diesel powered Oliver 1950 (Herman) and my White 2-155 pulls the 30 foot Great Plains drill.

    That’s a nice old tractor. Takes me back to the days of open stations, dirt and the smell of diesel fuel and new worked soil!

    Nothing like diesel fuel, fresh turned soil, buttered roll and coffee at 10:00 AM.
    and my mother made me keep my diesel covered boots in the garage.

    I love watching your old Oliver’s at work, awesome job and keep doing what you’re doing sir. The only negative thing to running Herman is that you can still hear that Detroit for hours after you shut it off at night

      Hey you wouldn’t happen to have a set of 9 bolt spacers that bolt to the hub to space the dual wheels out would you? I have one set but now I need another set for a 1750 I have recently purchased.

    Over plowed ground I remember the 1 pass was always the roughest an you go a bit slower. Depending on the soil on how many passes we would make. Nice running Oliver and white.

    Nothing runs like a Detroit Diesel, eat your heart out John Deere Oliver Tractors are the real shade of green. Great job Chris on keeping those old Oliver tractors alive, I grew up on a farm where my dad worked for a gentleman that had an old Detroit powered Oliver and that’s when I fell in love with vintage tractors. Especially the old Oliver’s. Now mind you all that I’m not biased or talking any kind of trash I’m just brand loyal. “Go get em Herman show that soil who’s boss”

    Love to hear Herman run & with the terra tires I would imagine compaction is minimal. That Field Boss sure looks like the one my neighbour has but I think his was lower HP. I rode many an hr on the left fender [inside the cab :)] while he worked the land. Great vid Chris. Take care & stay safe. Cheers

    That’s allot of iron behind ole Herman! You are living my dream Chris! Yes I do farm but have a fraction of your beautiful land. It’s impossible (here) to grow if you don’t have family passing the ground down to you.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's similar here. You also have to be a large farm to be able to expand, because the small farms can't afford to pay the land prices the big boys do.

  • @stephenfonder7409
    @stephenfonder7409 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That crumbler makes all the difference busting up that sod. I imagine that the sandy soil you have also helps to make the sod break up easier. The far away farm we farm is such heavy soil and the sod sticks together really tight. I would never get away with discing it once. Always takes 3 times over it to make a descent seed bed. With a setup like your's we could probably get away with 2 passes. Thanks for the video Chris.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

    What size terra tires and rims do you run on the 1950? What’s the gear ratio difference front to rear? Would it be the same on a 1900 C ?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rear tiress are 66x43-25 and the fronts are 48x25-20. The rims are the factory for those tires as they were what came with the tractor. There were a few different front axle gear ratios on both the 1950 and 1900 C, but only one would match up for the terra tire option. I'll have to look at mine to see. There's normally a tag on the left side of the differential housing, but if that is missing, they would also stamp it on the top side of the housing.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crops are looking really god at this point. The corn must have found the nitrogen, because it darkened up and really grew in the last few days. The beans came up good ( other than the 6 acres I just planted in this video) and I finished 1st cutting tonight. We've been constantly on the verge of a drought, and have gotten enough rain to keep things going.
