      Too. Bad Volkswagen cheated on their emissions tests, and their diesels needed to be recalled in the USA. I had my 2014 since 2013, and it is awesome!
      You can find many of the VW's parked in huge fields till they figure out what to do with them

    i drive a 4door golf TDI and Im getting over 47mpg on the highway and getting 38mpg in the city so I'm averaging around 42mpg. in the summer i averaging 44mpg thats crazy and my Golf has all soft touch materials on the inside feels like Im driving and Audi, plus the handling is so awesome even though the Golf tdi is front wheel drive actually it feels like all wheel drive car have too say VW did a really good job on these TDI's

    I would choose the VW Golf 5 door TDI 6 speed manual with sunroof & navigation, all weather floor mats & splash guards for $27,350.00 than either the more expensive Jetta or Cruze.

    I'm going on Jetta number 4 since 2008 and will never buy another car, my in-laws are the same way they are on their 4th TDI. I am getting my first TDI this weekend. Jetta is really comfy and a better reputation.

    This is the 1st ever review of those 2 i see the Jetta getting better fuel economy, every other the Cruze won. Like always its better to check multiple reviews before making a choice.
    Oh and btw, the Cruze has a proper emission system on it.

    look real world here. im on my 2nd vw jetta diesel. I have a bone stock 2011 leather interior. this weekend I drove 1000 to iowa and back in 72 hours. I drove it like I stole it. its the automatic version and I averaged 45.1 mpg. I had to go up and down mtns in west virginia pa and md. in one strech near morgantown I had it on cruise control at 73mph in a 70. some woman in a beater durango just had to pass me going up the mtn. 2 miles later she blew it up...penny for penny I have never had nicer car for the money and I have owned maybe 50 cars. when I filled up it said 600 miles to empty...keep your batteries.

    Have to disagree with the Cruze highway mileage. Either he drove it hard or didn't reset the info center. I have a 2014 Cruze diesel that averages 52mpgs on interstate. I think these guys are bias to the VW. You can go to any diesel cruze thread forums and see the same results for highway MPGs. I have gotten 800 miles from 1 tank of fuel and still had a 1/4 tank left.

    First I would like to point out that those safety features are available on the jetta. I just looked at a 2015 jetta tdi 6 speed manual with the lighting package and it's all there. active cruise, cornering lights, ect
    I just sold a 2005 beetle with 5 speed manual tdi. 38-45mpg always. VW TDI's really hold thier value well over time and run forever if you do the maintenance. 220000 miles and it still ran and drove like new. I'm ot a chevy hater. I just can't think of any cars they've made recently that I'd want to spend any money on ten years later.

    This was last month while it was still winter at almost all highway driving (some city driving) at 65 MPH (cruise control set). I can see getting almost 50 MPG on summer tires and in warmer weather.

      If you refer to MK5 and MK4, then yes, Fuck the Cruze. But the MK6 VW is SHIT. The cruze is built more solid and more comfortable. I had a 2013 VW TDI until recently ( accident ) and I WAS DISSAPOINTED. Shitty hard plastics, still using timing belts and the body feels like a tin can and light as a feather compared to the previous MK5 that felt like a solid tank. They really cheaped out. I always ( and still do ) liked VWs, but if I'm gonna buy a German car, I WANT A GERMAN CAR. Not a fucking "feel like" Corolla.

    • @bmw803
      @bmw803 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuck both. Depends what you're referring to. The Jetta interior is VERY CHEAP. ( at least from 2011 to 2013 ). The cruze has better interior and feels more comfortable as the car is a bit heavier and less shitty plastics inside. When it comes to handling and the driving itself, especially on the highway. Fuck the Chevy for sure. But the 2017 is much better. I just bought one after getting involved in an accident with my Jetta 2013 and the Cruze ain't bad at all. Much better than the previous generation. But VWs are not what they used to be. I had a MK4 TDI and that bitch was good. I shouldn't have never sold it. Much better than MK6 and MK7. MK5 is not bad either.

    Volkswagen's 2.0 TDI is simply the best engine in the world if you combine MPG and driving feel - If you want to go quick, it'll go quick, if you want to save fuel, it'll save tons of fuel. Amazing.

    The price difference is unbelievable! Also, the fuel numbers are really out of touch with reality; the VW has better fuel economy in the city and highway. Overall, this isn't even close; the VW is by far the better car. I feel bad for anyone who buys the Cruze over the VW based on the advertised fuel economy numbers without realizing that the VW is actually more efficient in reality.

    During my last trip to Florida in my 2014 Cruze diesel, I averaged 53 mpg for 2 hours @ 73 mph on flat Florida highways. I believe that the testers used the mileage from the cars drivers information center. They should have driven the cars at least 100 miles to get an accurate reading of highway mileage. After being reset, the cruze mileage in the dic continues to climb until about 75 miles.15 miles is not enough to get true mileage from the dic.

      I like VWs but don't kid yourself, VWs have their weaknesses and the Chevy cruze diesel IS A EUROPEAN ENGINE as well. The car was designed in South Korea with a European made engine, so you're obviously BRAND biased, but the Cruze diesel 2017 uses Timing chains while VWs still use belts. GO figure.

    I've learned after 2 years of owning my 12 golf tdi, that it does have good mpg's but it varies. If the temp is below 30 degrees than it can barley get to 40 mpg and as soon as it gets above 40 deg. the mpg's get better. Overall i feel this car is more of a highway car and doesn't get good city milage, and as soon as you start to idle you see your mpg's drop fast.

    The Chevy gets worse gas mileage, it is more expensive, and gives no manual transmission option.. The Cruze also has a small backseat, as opposed to the Jetta which has a comfortable back seat. We averaged 49.8 in our 2012 Jetta TDI running roughly 80 mph down to Florida with 5 people and luggage. Every GM vehicle I have ever owned has gotten less than the EPA estimates said. My Jetta is averaging over the highway estimates. The Cruze should cost less than the Jetta..

    I owned a 2013 Cruze (gas ) 1.4 Turbo for 2 years and loved it. Not sure what they were talking about with handling feels inprecise because that was one thing I loved about my Cruze. They are also wrong about the seats. While comfortable on short stints they hurt on long trips. I was excited to have a Jetta Rental 2 weeks ago on a trip. I was not impressed at all with it though. The radio sucked, brakes felt very non-linear, engine was weak and needed to be floored to get the trans to downshift enough to let it use the high rpms and the trans shifted like a 10 yo car. Also keep in mind people DSG trans' s like the Volkswagen's have a high failure rate and are extremely expensive to fix.

    Hearing the hwy fuel mileage on the Cruze makes me think it may have done a regen, especially if they were driving in the 60 mph range. I drive a newer diesel truck and it goes from 19 ish mpg to 11 when it does a regen on the freeway and you don’t even know it’s doing it. Just a thought.

    • @outofspecboating6985
      @outofspecboating6985 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, on the Cruze, the fuel mileage almost goes to half during regen. There’s an aftermarket gauge for that, but the Cruze doesn’t come with one, so you often don’t know.

    The VW is over rated! The DSG has high maintenace and the torque Converter in the Cruze will last longer and cheaper to fix! I drove both and the Cruze has less turbo lag and you get a lot for the money with the rebates.You can get a Value TDI Jetta that is stripped.They are comparing fair trims in real world. If you go to both dealer Chevy and VW and compare prices,go see the Service techs and find out how much it cost to maintain each of them! The Cruze will me cheaper!

    • @drewski1441
      @drewski1441 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are wrong the DSG transmission is quite robust and is built to last. I curently own a 2013 Jetta TDI I love the DSG transmission no transmission gives faster or smoother shifts than a DSG that's a FACT. As for real world driving comparison? I test drove the Cruze and looked at the layout did not like it at all. Only reason I did was I wanted a Diesel other than that I would have never looked at a American car maybe a truck but a car? never. The Jetta is abetter car than the Cruze hands down. Regarding ride quality most german cars tend to have a firmer suspension setup but they are better than American or Japanese cars over the long run.

    • @MrThat70svan
      @MrThat70svan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How many miles? You do know, You have to service the transmission OIL every 30K at about 350 each time unless you change it yourself! Don't get me wrong, the Jetta was fun to drive and transmission felt solid with 10 miles on it,,but at 160K,will it still be shifting-The Cruze will be cheaper to maintain if the service is done at the dealer!

    Coming from someone who has extensive experience driving both, I completely disagree on the noise comparison. Not only is the Cruze quieter on the highway, but it's suspension doesn't crash over bumps like the veedub. Jetta kills it on interior legroom but materials are much better in the Cruze. I'd take the Cruze for the more solid feeling and quality materials. Sad that VW had to cheapen things after the previous gen. Those had great materials.

      The funny thing is that the interior of that Jetta is FUCKING CHEAP HARD PLASTICS. I had 1 until last year ( accident ) and I was very disappointed in the interior and how the car felt. Compared to the MK4 I had in the past, it felt like a Corolla. A CARDBOARD BOX!!!. Those MK6 Jetta are really shit for the body they made. Very cheap and cardboard box feeling. The 2014 Cruze Diesel has a much more loaded interior and much more "solid" feeling. But hey, it's GM, so it has to be bashed. Yes, I hate GM and their mentality, but their cars aren't so bad as they are portrayed.

      Well, if the DPF is blocked the car wont run properly, and it cost's anywhere from $3000 to $8000 and last around 80,000km to 100,000km, so all that money saved on fuel is wasted on DPF's. And if you drive in the city allot, the DPF can last as little as 10,000km and warranty does not cover it because it is a wearable item. If you drive on the highway all the time, which diesel cars with DPF were designed for then it will be fine, but there is no chance I am going to get one because I hardly ever drive on the highway and the DPF regen will not start.

    Volkswagen did not have the urea injection system, and look where they are now. My diesel cruze will get less fuel economy only when it is doing a regen. this is where the fuel injectors intentionally send fuel out the exhaust stroke to burn off the soot that is filtered out inside the diesel particulate filter. This regeneration is time or differential pressure initiated. In short, my fuel economy will go from mid 50's to mid 30's for about 15 mins until the regeneration is complete. this is an emission requirement necessitated by the particulate filter. In case you missed it. I easily get mid 50's MPG under normal highway driving conditions. My best fuel economy score for a 25 mile average is 62.8 MPG. VW cannot beat that fuel economy. suck it vw.

It will be a good one as long as you change the fluid once in a while. You really should change the ATF in any car every so often. I know too many people that don't and you know what? How about a maintainence cost and repair cost comparison?

      VW gives a 2 year free maintenance (oil change, tire balance/rotation, etc). Chevy can't afford anything cause they have to pay the unions

      eddjmemg G You're wrong eddjmemg G. Chevrolet offers 2-years/24,000 miles of maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, and 27-point inspection.) Additionally, they beat VW's drivetrain warranty at 5-years/100,000 miles.

    lol at these econoboxes they have more power then subarus brz "drivers" car.... not to mention what these turbo diesels would do with a custome tune

      Power is not the only thing that makes a "drivers" car. The comparison you made makes no sense at all.

      being brainwashed by hype to think 150 hp makes a sports car makes no sense.

      KoG GoK power does not make a sports car in all cases. Look at Lotus. The 0-60 times aren't mind boggling. The thing that makes it a sports car is the handling, brakes, and fantastic chassis. Same goes for these diesels(at least the Jetta). 0-60 times are hovering at the 8 second mark but the way the Jetta goes round corners is great. Its fun. No they're not sports cars, they're 40+ mpg highway cruisers. Stop comparing apples to tomatoes

      KoG GoK Being brainwashed by hype to think you always need a ton of horsepower to go fast makes no sense.
      There are plenty of sporty cars with very little power. In fact, some prefer these cars because they can have more fun with them on normal roads, and don't have to go to a track to get the most out of their car.

      KoG GoK Horsepower alone does not make a sports car, imagine if a 1,300 lb Ariel Atom had 150hp, that would be like a 2,600 lb car with 300hp !!! The BRZ does not make 150hp anyway, it makes 200hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. Even still, the WRX which costs about $900 more makes 268hp. BRZ handles well. I am not all about power, but even I think the BRZ needs more torque to justify its cost.

    I get 64.2 mpg at 55 mph driving my Chevy Cruze Diesel. Are there any VW Jetta owners that can beat that mileage? Send a picture of your 25 or 50 mileage average, not your instant mpg. I dare you. Keep in mind I get this kind of mileage in an automatic transmission, without the benefit of a manual transmission to hypermile with. It would be nice to talk to somebody that actually knows what the VW Jetta can do, instead of reading ridiculous and ignorant comments from children who don't even drive the car. I can say with authority that the Chevy Cruze diesels are a damn good car and don't disappoint in the fuel mileage category.

      +jonathan ingerson Check out my profile for pictures of my 25 Mile fuel average. I haven't seen anyone that can beat it. Where are all the trolls now???

    all of you talking about EPA MPGs. It is very simple. The VW is an import and the Chevy is BORN IN THE USA. Funny thing happened at the same time the Gov't Bailout of GM. The EPA Est.MPG for VW dropped from 47mpg hwy to 42 mpgs. Very simple.

      The Chevrolet Cruze was designed and engineered in South Korea. Its orignal form is called a Daewoo Lacetti Premier. This Daewoo was rebadged as a Chevy. Technically its a Daewoo. Just sayin'

      MrTimbor Actually based on the "GM Global Platform" like the Daewoo and numerous Opels and south american Chevrolets, designed by GM Germany and the first model based on it was the Opel Astra.
