I owned the Range Rover and X7 before I ended up purchasing the LX570. Comfort, usability, handling, and the confidence just can't beat the LX570. And I bought that especially before they go turbo trouble.
The LX570 models from 2011-2015 looked like tanks from the rear. The size of the dual rear tail-lights were HUGE. It especially looked good in the Lexus Pearl/White paint. Lexus always does the best paint, I remember when I bought an LS430 for my father the salesman at the Lexus Dealership was telling me about how it had over 23kg of paint on it. And that the front windscreen was coated in artificial sapphire to stop stones causing windscreen cracks, like a luxury watch, except, you know, A WHOLE WINDSCREEN. That car was insane. Lexus spared no expense. It even had Birds Eye Maple wood on the inside and they specifically used cuts from the same tree for each car so that the 'birds eye' effect of the wood was consistent. Insane.

It can tow more than 7000# if you upgrade the stock coil springs which are rated at 170#/in (aka soft). Originally LX570 was rated to tow ~8100# but was derated in 2011ish because folks were overloading the AHC. The main complaint was the ride being stuck on AHC-LOW. AHC has decent overhead built in it to allow you to go over 7000# but not to 8100#. Look up on IH8MUD and see how people have installed uprated coil springs (OME 2721/2722 and Icon 2" dual rated springs) to assist the AHC. The dual rated springs (OME 2721 and Icon) are rated between 270#/in to 340#/in. The coil springs will take up more weight and ease AHC loading thus allow for increased payload/tongue weight. The axle weight is rated the same as LC200, which is rated to tow up to 8100#.
They need to add a plugin hybrid option added to the naturally aspirated 8 cylinder. 50 miles of pure electric range would make this car or the GX a no brainer.
I can't understand why Lexota couldn't integrate the LX's 3rd row seats to stow into the floor with this generation like the current GX. 03-09 GX - 3rd row stowed vertically next to window 08-Present LX - 3rd row stowed vertically next to window 10-Present GX/10-Present 4runner - 3rd row stowed into floor wtf
This is a very old design and the rear floor is relatively high due to the need for clearance of the solid rear axle and the underfloor storage of the spare tire. Yes, the GX 3rd row stows into the floor but to do so they raised the floor height about 5 inches. So when you open the rear door on the GX, the sill of the door is about 5 inches below the floor height. The 3rd row of the GX takes up a ton of cargo room. The 5th Gen 4Runner without the 3rd row has 80 cu ft of cargo space with the second row folded. The GX has only 60 cu ft of cargo space with the 2nd and 3rd row folded -- that is a huge loss of cargo space. For me, I'd much rather have the 3rd row seats in the LandCruiser and LX as they are now, so that I can take remove them as I don't need them. Once they are integrated, you can't remove them and you never get that cargo space back. This is a large, heavy, off-road capable SUV. That comes with a lot of compromises -- heavy weight, rougher ride from the solid rear axle, relatively poor on-road handling, and less interior room. We don’t get those and remember that if you are just planning on going for an adventure trip buy a Mercedes, Jeep, BMW , Land Rover, GM or Ford but if you would like go and come back issues free then better buy a Land Cruiser or LX570
How many 3rd row SUVs sold in the last decade that are off-road capable in the US? When you have a large family and also enjoy the travelling the remote areas, there is pretty much just one or two choices for the last decade. Either the LC200/LX570 or the LR3/4. Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe/Yukon, QX80, Armada, Sequoia, Expedition, and Navigator are all nice large 3 row SUV but they can't really off-road that well even if you upgrade the tires. Smaller SUVs like the 4Runner/GX are capable off-road but have narrow/tight 3rd rows. On long distance trips, your 3rd row passengers will hate you. Adventure variants of crossovers like the Telluride have decent 3rd row but can't off-road that well even with a small lift/better tires. You get much more legroom and interior width for baby car seats/passengers with the larger LC200/LR4. With the LC200/LX570 and LR3/4, you are essentially choosing between reliability or off-road prowess. Now that the Grand Wagoneer is making a come back, introduction of the Grand Cherokee L, and potentially a 3 row version of the Defender, we will have more options for the those of us with large families.
Toyota should just go ahead and offer their concept Lexus LX J201 since they’re leaving us with no LC. At the very least, allow us to mod and retain warranty. Hell, bring the LC 70’s series Stateside while they’re at it.. It drives me bonkers they offer these amazing vehicles everywhere but here. Sincerely, -Happy GX owner.
SERIOUSLY' NO TOUGH SCREEN!!! They need to do something about that infotainment system at this price point. Toyota really really really needs to step up their sound system game in their trucks.
Absolutely. 20" or 21" wheels on an offroad capable SUV are pointless -- heavier, more expensive, and less protection for the tire. I've got 18" wheels on my Land Cruiser and I don't bother to avoid potholes here in New England.
The size of the GX is ideal. I wish it had the LX exterior styling though, especially the tail lights. They both need an interior redesign. Nothing weird. Think more Bentley, less 4Runner.
A hard no to the overwrought, Judge Dredd body cladding (including the spindle grill), the # of features reduced for a higher Lexus price, and playing a 2021 price for 12 year old tech. It's a test by Toyota to see how much profit they can make off their brand name and a reputation for reliability. Get us the new LC.
Alex I hope that A for fuel economy score was a mistake cuz you rated the infinity QX80 a B. The infinity is actually slightly more fuel efficient according to official numbers.
Yes, our QX80 has been averaging 18 mpg over 7k miles in mixed driving which is 50% better than what Alex got in the LX, that's a huge difference. Plus the INFINITI runs on regular. Interior is nicer on the Lexus (except the terrible joystick we had on our LS460), but I don't understand the huge price premium.
The score should have been a B or B- for fuel economy. I own a LX570 and I am certain he would get similar mpg to EPA (12mpg/17mpg) for the LX if he hadn't drive over 2000'. When my vehicle was stock with all season tires and loaded with 6 people plus luggages, I average 17/18mpg. The LX570 has the same engine as the Land Cruiser/Tundra/Sequoia. You can run regular on it, engine power will be 381hp/401ft-lb. On premium, it will be 383hp/403ft-lb. So I stick to using regular fuel since my butt in the seat does not feel the extra 2hp/2ft-lb. The price difference is that you can really off-road with the LX570 and not worry about it breaking down. Take a look underneath the Land Cruiser 200 platform and you will notice that it is virtually flat with everything tucked up above & next to the frame (hence the interior has less headroom). This is primarily to prevent snagging obstacles while off-roading. None of the competitive SUVs (including the Toyota Sequoia) except the Land Rovers have a flat underbody. Plus there are enough aftermarket accessories to modify it very easily with smaller wheels/bigger tires, differential lockers, and the whole expedition setup because it is a common Land Cruiser platform. You can easily put 33" tires on it without trimming, and 34" tires with slight trimming. If you do not plan to venture far off-road or into remote places, then the QX80 is a better/wiser choice. I do wish that Nissan would offer an off-road trim for the Armada or QX80. If so, I would definitely take a hard look at the value proposition.
Very stoked for the upcoming redesign, though this hasn't aged terribly given how old it is. To me, this has aged more gracefully than the very slightly less ancient GX.
Alex, I'm so glad you made the comparison between this LX and the Range Rover which is a truly unreliable piece of crap that is far more expensive to own... especially given the fact that most of its life will be spent upon a lift at the local dealer.
Simply not true. Range Rovers are far more reliable now. Just look at the prices of used ones. Some people like more modern conveniences, like rear seats that actually fold into floor, or engines and transmissions that come from the current century.
I have a 07 gx470, I uave luxury with off road capability. Cant wait to get the lx soon for my wife and I'll pimp the gx for a better off road adventures.
Love your reviews and in-depth explanation but really don’t like the shots while driving. There’s nothing save for different camera angles that are placed on different locations on the car. It would have been so better if you could include driving shots of the car from outside as you review while driving. The explanation is nice but it gets so boring watching the same shot. Why don’t you bring along Sofyan to shoot the exterior shots of the car while driving? And I love his reviews as well. I have similar gripe on his videos. $96k is not a good deal for any suv. Don’t care what badge it has.
They are still very reliable used. ;)
The slight depreciation alone makes this a valid question, from a dollar spent/vs ROI perspective.
@@HunterXray I’d definitely buy a used one for $35k.
But buying new? Naw. I’d rather buy a $48k suv now, and then buy another new $48k suv in 5 years, than have a 10 year old $96k suv.
If old school is your thing and have the bucks, then this vehicle may be the one for you. Not myself however.
The GX does not come in a 2 row. I have a 2017 and it only came in a 3 row.
starting at $96k?! thats alotta bread. do you guys get the nissan patrol and mitsubishi pajero? we have these in australia, equally serious offroaders, though alot cheaper than a land cruiser / lx 570. if i were shopping for a luxury serious offroader id be looking at range rover and g wagon.
Sincerely,
-Happy GX owner.
Best SUV.
I bought one because of this video
SERIOUSLY' NO TOUGH SCREEN!!!
They need to do something about that infotainment system at this price point. Toyota really really really needs to step up their sound system game in their trucks.
Look at the new Lexus NX
Can't believe you give A to fuel economy. Its mpg is much lower than Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade long version.
I might end up putting smaller wheels and more meat, the wheels comes with are too big. I like to have more side wall.
I love this thing. 😍
If you want to go Safari get a Land Rover if you want to come back get a Land cruiser
Lmao
just wish they had APPLE CAR PLAY!!!!!!
Beat of the best
I would choose reliavility, either the lexus or infinity.
I want auto-pilot on the freeway for the LEXUS LX570! Or even better auto-pilot plus plug-in hybrid with 50-75 mile range!
I love that under Fuel Economy he gave it an “A”? 😂
I just... cant...
Alex, why give this an A for fuel econony?
I loved mine and it’s much more than a Land Cruiser. It’s a lovely luxury tank and they are rare in a sea of Escalades.
Stick to CR-Vs brah.
12 mpg gets an A for fuel efficiency?
LAND CRUISER 💪💪
Love your reviews and in-depth explanation but really don’t like the shots while driving. There’s nothing save for different camera angles that are placed on different locations on the car. It would have been so better if you could include driving shots of the car from outside as you review while driving. The explanation is nice but it gets so boring watching the same shot.
Why don’t you bring along Sofyan to shoot the exterior shots of the car while driving? And I love his reviews as well. I have similar gripe on his videos. Perhaps, you could take exterior shots of the car while driving in his reviews.
It’s basically a luxury tank
It will outlive all the humans
I would get lX 570 reliability, The other offerings aren't as reliable
But more luxurious and more fuel efficient
Cadillac and Lincoln are very reliable based on my experience
@@loyal4theway159 not saying ur wrong , I own a cadillac. I still think toyota lexus is more reliable due to alot them having high mileage and high resale.
Funny how such a huge vehicle ... has such a cramped backseat space.
95% of time, the owner never uses the 3rd row seats. I have been driving this LX since 2018.
I have an relative who owns one of this for a while and yeah, im super disappointment with the very dated infotainment system. But for them, its about the reliability and plain status symbol along with fitting in with their particular friends who happens to also own one of these.
Disappointed not on their choice but rather how strong the Toyota/Lexus brand can get a way with. But in the end of the day, it is not my car anyway and they live in a property that lacks an garage leaving public street parking the only option which is understandably the shortcoming of the EV charging infrastructure.
Range rovers are vehicles to lease since they will fall apart. Lx570 is something you own forever...
Is this the new L300 engine?
Hey Alex when will the civic review come out?
Actually, the Lexus GX is the Lexus version of the Toyota 4Runner! It has nothing to do with the LX in way shape or form.
I think what he meant is the Land Cruiser Prado, which also related to the 4Runner as well
If it’s make you to feel better
sound isolation lexus vs Infinity?
If the Land Cruiser were coming here, with the LX, I'd get the Cruiser
It has a heritage and a cache the LX cannot match
Land Cruiser sales have almost tripled this year, now that Toyota is killing it off
Toyota is hoping all of that demand will fall to the LX, with the Cruiser out of the way.....
Lexus really needs to get rid of that hideous front spindle grille
I don't think it's going to happen. It took me awhile to get used to those grilles .We have a 2017 RX 350 F Sport. I love it in spite of the grille !
I agree. I specifically bought a 2019 GX in 2020 solely due to the grill.
Lexus reliability any day over Land Rover's "Prince of Darkness" legacy. Depreciation on Land Rovers is some of the worst in the industry. My $24K GX470 I bought used in 2017 is still going strong and I could sell it for $20K. Can't say that about Land Rover or any of the British Leyland products.
I thought the new Sequoia was also going to basically the Land Cruiser this time. I feel like I read that somewhere. 🤷🏾♂️
Lexus = Luxury exports to the US.
It's a great SUV, I honestly think American Full SUVs are better offers.
Better buy one while you can when the V8 is gone its gone
Good riddance.
When is the TX coming out ?🤔
Texas?
After grand highlander, may be as 2024 model
Lexus LX: Lexus Land Xuiser.
🤡👍
GLS 550 for the win !!!!!
14 mpg is really unnecessary with 2021 technology. Really needs an engine update.
2007? Yet Nissan/Infiniti gets all the sticks for not updating their fleets frequently.
12MPG which was below EPA rating and still it gets an A for fuel economy? Sounds like a heavy duty truck with huge gas engine territory when it comes to gas mileage. I wouldn’t be surprised F250 with V8 7.3 or Ram 2500 power wagon with 392hemi gets better mileage than this.
I call it the Lexus Cruiser
It’s a beast but even with Toyota reliability, $100K for a 10 year old design is a tough proposition.
The problem is we know a redesign is coming soon, so it makes very little sense to buy a new one right now.
Not if you want it to last 20 years worry free (as long as you keep the maintenance schedule
@@justSTUMBLEDupon better try to find a used one at good price.
@@justSTUMBLEDupon I have a 1998 LX470 with almost 300K miles on it. The engine and transmission is still silky smooth. I would take this vehicle anywhere on land. I'm never going to get rid of it.
99.99% of LX570s in North America will be on pavement, but I can guarantee you that guys in the ME will be hurling these off sand dunes and onto rocks.
That third row is not a 3 seater; regardless of a head rest. It’s comical that they would even attempt to market that as a 3 seater.
Fuel Economy Rating is "A" ?!?! Come on Alex :-D
