      you forgot to mention that you added oil. and basically you added it too much. best would be just to add it over the dough when proofing to prevent it from drying out and not embed it into the dough.

    My daughter and I made one loaf and 6 rolls from the one packet of plain flour left in our local supermarket - it was organic. It was a first time for both of us and a lovely bonding experience. It smelt great and tasted great but more than anything I enjoyed getting all messy with my little one.💕

      Step 1: Preheat your oven to 200C

      Step 3: Redistribute to the rest of the neighbourhood.

      Oh please it's just supply & demand. Even if everyone buys just one bag of flour to get through this demand has exponentially increased from what it was previously where most people maybe bought a bag every few months if that. No one is hoarding anything, they're all just all trying to buy the same thing at once & just in time inventory management can't keep up with the sudden increase in demand. Blame the companies that don't keep stocks of anything anymore because they want to squeeze an extra cent dividend out for the stock holders. You're getting mad at the wrong people. If you were so damn smart you'd have watched the news & bought your supplies in 2 or 3 months ago like a sensible person. If you have no flour now, maybe you should start watching more reliable news sources.

    Everyone is saying they can’t find flour. At this point it’s the supermarkets fault. When I go they don’t let shoppers get more that 2 of each item in the store. Which leaves some for everyone. BTW keep the recipes coming Jamie, my kids and I love it!!

    • @rickmiletic1376
      @rickmiletic1376 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is that the problem is not just the shoppers (though they are guilty in panic buying), but the actual workers. I've seen many workers before leaving their shift fill their carts with large amounts of necessities like flour, yeast, disinfecting products, paper goods, etc. from the stock room, when the item was never even on the shelf. I think it's disgusting and I wish managers would address it.

    Now in Poland because of the virus is a kind of a trend to bake your on bread, "bread in the pot". I was curious so I made my own bread in the pot too, it was delicious, but I have to try your recipe as well !

    • @justynaant
      @justynaant 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Aidan CE
      750g of wheat flour
      25g of yeast
      2 glasses of warm water
      1 teaspoon of sugar
      2 flat teaspoons of salt
      1 spoon of oil
      If you use instant dry yeast you have to use only 7gramms and you have to mix everything together and knead. Cover the dough with a cloth and leave it for 30 min. Then after 30 min knead the dough once again and cover with the cloth and leave again for 30 min. In the meantime turn your oven on and heat to 220 celsius degrees with the casserole dish and the lid inside. After 30 min put your bread inside the hot pot, cover with the lid and turn down your oven to 200 celsius degrees. Bake 35 min after that time take your lid off and bake for 20 min. There is a lot of work to do but it is worth it ! If you use normal yeast of course you have to make a leaven first.

    2 tea spoon baking powder
    Pinch of nutmeg powder
    1/2 tea spoon salt

    2 table spoon of chocolate chips or raisins/walnuts
    Beat eggs with smesh banana, +milk

      Love using this method to make muffins, oats are great for that! You can also grind oats and turn that into oat flour, probably can't bake a whole loaf of bread with oat flour but can use part oat flour and part whole oats to get a more cakey texture. Enjoy! :)

      @@worldcitizeng6507 Happy to help! :) I would recommend though if you're going to add flax seeds to do that separately in a bowl with double the water and let it sit aside for about 5 minutes so that it can gelatinise, then add this mixture to the muffins.
      Not sure if I would use a whole 1/2 cup as it might be too flax tasting but 1/4 cup would be ok. You can always add some pumpkin/pepita seeds or sunflower seeds for added fibre and texture, I do this often just to make it healthier and tastier.
      But I always make a 'flax egg' separately so that the water can get the flax working, and then add it in once it's absorbed most of the water, better for digestion and helps the muffins to cook through better as well.

    Always life-enhancing to see Jamie Oliver at work!
    I've just discovered bread-making (and will soon be out of yeast) but I haven't bothered with the "degassing" - punching the air out - stage, and frankly, it has come out just fine. The dough gets a little bit of movement when I shape it into a ball for the 2nd time before it goes in the oven, but nothing energetic. Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe it's because I mixed it either with 1/3 chestnut flour or with 1/6 cereals. Using the bottom of an ironware casserole dish has taken care of the shape nicely.
    If I degassed it, wouldn't it be a little denser? I don't want that. I could do with more holes, not less.

    Here's a tip: hold a marble size of dough back and you can use that as yeast for your next loaf. Next time, do that again, and you're nearing sourdough.

    So many details and tips missed out.
    I wouldn’t use that much flour unless you need to make two loafs, more dough means more kneading which can be hard work.
    For 1 loaf
    500g strong bread flour
    295ml warm water (be exact)
    1x Table spoon of olive oil
    Teaspoon of salt.
    7g sachet of yeast
    I usually just pour the flour in a big bowl. Put the yeast to one side of the bowl and the salt to the other and mix them in a bit. The salt reduces the effects of the yeast if in direct contact of each other.
    Make a well in the flour and poor 3 quarters of the water and oil. Mix and gradually add rest of the water until you have a ball of dough.
    Oil your surface or use some flour. The dough needs aggressive kneading for at least 20-30 mins and should become quite stretchy. The trick is to hold a piece up to the light, stretch it a bit and if you can see the light like a window pane you’re good to go. This video cuts at 1.41 and shows the dough again after kneading which the viewer does not see. Notice the texture difference.
    Rub some olive oil around the bowl and leave the dough in there with a damp tea towel or cling film over the top. This stops the dough from crisping.
    Leave for an 1 to 2 hours in a warmish place. (Cupboard)
    It doesn’t always double in size, depends on the temp of your room and how well you kneaded it.
    Once risen, knock the dough back to remove the air out of it. Now shape your dough into the type of loaf you want. Grease a baking tray and place your shaped dough onto it ready to go in the oven. Cover for another 1.5 hours or until roughly doubled in size.
    Pre heat oven to 200 degrees C for fan oven.
    If you want crusty bread, leave a tray at the bottom of your oven and allow it to heat up. Once you’ve placed the dough in the over pour roughly half a cup of water into the tray and close the door. The steam created causes the bread to crust.
    Leave for exactly 36 minutes. In total. Turn down oven to 180 degrees c after 10 minutes of baking and leave at that temp for the remaining time.
    Remove and leave on a wire rack for half an hour before eating and you should have some decent bread if you follow those instructing.
    Hope I helped.

    • @wj2873
      @wj2873 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      discla1mer No that would be too much water in my opinion. It would probably be a very sticky dough which is even harder to work with. As long as you knead it well enough, 295ml water plus the oil is fine
