  • Here's a demo of some of the sounds of the Ethos Overdrive Amp, a compact 30 watt amp built into the famous Ethos Overdrive pedal. The whole thing weighs around a pound and can drive an 8 or 16 ohm speaker cabinet. I'm playing it into a Port City Wave cabinet.

    I really enjoyed the Wes -style playing and tone around 5:30, by the way, bravo. Hard to find demos that show the full range of a pedal's tones, but yours shows the gigging musician tones, which is extremely valuable. I don't know if you're still making vids but I subscribed after watching this one.

    Nice that backing track reminds me of Santana playing on "Game of Love" in the 90s... dig it .... looking at this and the dumbloid... thinking the ethos would be better for clean to low gain

    @SensibleMusician I with you man, even 50 would probably be enough. Actually with the speaker sim out you can send a line to the PA and use it on any size stage.

    for me is not a pedal, but just like an amplifier with dumble the tone controls.io I connected to my mesaboogie study 22 and has its own different types of sounds like a dumble.Nothing to do with pedals.A beast.the sounds are crisp and the bass is all standardized and made all at the same level.Thank you very much Tim.Saluti from sardinia Best Isle of Europe from Italy

    @SingleCoilVoodoo Ordered my Ethos TLE in February, originally was told that the pedal would be shipped April 2013(!). Got it in December. Merry Christmas to me!! So it was about 10 months. It was worth the wait. I've been using it at church with my Pod X3 (for speaker sim and FX), and it's great. I love having a channel switching "amp" in my rig!

    on the commercial that plays first for the EHX Soul POG. what would you call the color of the Start he's playing? I'm currently in the middle of a build; I have a 1-piece lightweight Ash body (4 pounds, which is difficult to find a one piece that light usually is a compromise between light or one piece). a Warmoth modern vintage 1/4 dawn maple neck with the asymmetrical Wolfgang profile, Dark Indian rosewood, compounded radius with Dunlop 6105 vintage/tall stainless steel frets( I prefer the tone of nickel frets, along with the strings I use which are pure nickel wrap. but I all my own work on my guitars (worked in s shop for a few years now focus on building and modifying amps/pedals and detoxing systems), and haven't done a refret on s compound radius fretboard, which doesn't seem hard although I know my boss jaye refretting guitars that originally had nickel because the SS don't seem to want to stay seated, and the end trend to want to pop out. it's the leveling and dressing that gives me pause. leveling a regular radius is easy! 10" radius, I use a 10" curved grinding/sanding block, but they all flatten out, it sends like a nightmare. figured the SS would hold this headache off for a while.
    sorry for the tangent, but I'm thinking of what finish I'm going to use; was thinking of the candy green like on the Clapton, but I prefer your color. do you know what the finish is; looks like b the v Lucerne green from the RW Eric Johnson Strat. looks sick with the dark rosewood and vintage tint on the back and headstock.

    Has anyone tried the Ethos Overdrive pedal into a Tech 21 Power engine 60 ? Just curious about using the Ethos as a light weight rig and what's the best way to run it ! Amp version in this demo sounds killer going through that "Port City" cabinet !

    It is quite loud on both the clean and OD channels. Any gig that you could do with a deluxe reverb you could do with this amp. It's got more clean headroom than a deluxe reveb.

    Hey Tim, this is such an outstanding demo underpinned by your brilliant playing. Thanks for this. I have 2 questions - 1. Are you using the PortCity Wave or Wave OS cab, and what speakers do you have in there? 2. Why do you have that blue 'blanket' thing over the cab on some of the pieces? Secret settings? ;-) Thanks, mate.

    I have a question about the OD Amp and a huge “Thank You” for anyone who can provide an answer… When using the Speaker Sim out (to recording interface/i.e. not using power amp section) is the fx loop incorporated into the signal?

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on when it was made earlier one , no. later ones yes. as far as I know the earlier ones can get a retrofit

    Hi Tim, I love the tone and feel you have in your videos. Also, I never hear any hum or buzz that is associated with single coils in your clips. How do you eliminate the noise, and do you ever run into problems at higher gain or volume settings?

    Sorry if this has been asked before. Can this be used with a band and no mike on the cab? I play in a six piece R&B band (keys/bass/drums/guitar/2 singers) we play mostly small clubs but I never mike the cab - currently using an Axe-Fx with a Matrix GT1000FX 1u rack. Would like to have an alternative light weight backup rig. .. but it needs to hold up in my band setting and stay clean at a reasonable volume.

    My Ethos does not have the effects loop built in so running a reverb or delay pedal should be after the 1/4" out.....?

    Just adding my experiences gigging with this amp now for a little over a year. It's all I use now unless it's a big stage and then I run in stereo with either an Allen Accomplice or an Ampeg M-15. Use a 1x12 neo loaded cab with the ethos mounted on my pedal board. Super light rig. You can hear this set-up if you search, jam-art lonnie's lament and/or jam-art Surely. The ethos is the drive on the Jazz tune and a JHS superbolt is the drive on the Lanios tune. I am not paid, sponsored.... just think that this is a great option for the gigging musician.

    • @MrMudEagle
      @MrMudEagle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jam-Art .Music So you can run it directly into another amp if needed?

    • @taijazvidfish
      @taijazvidfish 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You can even use it as just a pedal. All outputs are active all the time. Really worth it even if you keep it only as a back-up.

    • @abc-wz7xr
      @abc-wz7xr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rating on the ethos amp pedal is 30 watt would it be able to power cabinet of 100w because I don't think there are 30w cabinets

    • @taijazvidfish
      @taijazvidfish 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 30 watt spec is the max output of the amp. The wattage rating on speakers is the speaker's ability to handle that max amount of power. You are all good unless a speaker is rated below 30 watts. Note, the speaker impedance is more critical, check the manual, but I believe the Ethos needs either a 8 or 16 ohm load, nothing lower.

  • @SixStringHarmonies
    @SixStringHarmonies 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh yeah, Baby! I've been on the Ethos wait list for about 7 mos now......Only 2 more years, and it will be mine. You'd think Rob could hire a couple guys to do soldering? Being as he's got around $300,000+ in wait-list orders sitting there?? Or does the wait add to the "Mojo" of the box?

  • @theot71
    @theot71 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own the ethos plus many other preamps. One thing about the ethos that bugs me is the amount of control on a foot switch, I would much prefer a rack unit with a floor switching extension. I know this would take away from the portability and add cost, I prefer using other overdrives and boost pedals on the floor rather than the ethos. I usually put it on the desk to explore tone, I cannot help but think a rack version or memory storage would make this unit more practical for myself.

  • @TimLerchGuitar
    @TimLerchGuitar  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    probably ought to check with Robbie about a 16 ohm speaker. you can go to the web site and ask

    I want to buy one of these (the power amp version) but spending more than $900 and waiting almost a year aren't in the cards for me. I'd love to buy one used and I'd pay about $600 for one. Anyone happen to be selling one? Hit me up.

    What's the difference between using the settings for Georgia and not using the Ethos OD Amp at all? Did I hear you say that Ted Greene used an overdrive? I know there is a subtle difference between sounds you and TG get and the purely clean sound. Can this OD make that difference?

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Spencer, not sure what you are asking, this unit is a pre amp and an amp in one so to bypass the pre amp would eliminate any tone sculpting. think of it as a two channel amp, one side is clean and one side is overdriven. hope that helps.
