Ethos Overdrive - King of the Dumble pedals?

- For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ With the clean and drive channels of a Dumble ODS seemingly recreated in pedal form, in theory the Ethos Overdrive should have been top of the list of Dumble pedals for me, but I think the Van Weelden Royal Overdrive seems to be a bit of a classier build and for me takes the edge?

I had this pedal about ten years on my board, the clean channel adds a lot of depth to the sound. The drive channel is smooth and has soft clipping. It’s very mellow pedal. The clean channel into another drive pedal is sounds fantastic. Overall very touch sensitive pedal.
The Ethos Clean II has become the centerpiece of my setup. The speaker sim output is great but I run it instead into a Two Notes CAB.M+ for more flexibility. The clean and soft clipping sounds are amazing. The amount of tone options incredible. Your awesome playing clearly demonstrates how great these pedals sound. Rock on brother!
Hi Daniel, excellent choice the Ethos Clean II! If you don't mind me asking, how do you think it performs with direct recording into the pc audio interface?

The main difference of this pedal from other - the tone control going BEFORE OD. So it means, that you can shape the OD character by tweaking the bass mid and pres of the OD, it does not affects the output freq of the OD. The original Dumble acts the same. So, the fuzing was because you need to decrease the bass a bit and increase the mid. Totally versatile OD for my opinion, but it requires the understanding of the circuit.

If you haven't yet, try Robbie's new creation, the Ethos Clean Fusion Deluxe. Outstanding, 2-channel pedal, with loads of tweakability. I plan on making that, along with one of his TWE-1 drive pedals the centerpiece of what will hopefully be an all analog board. (Um, we'll see about that all analog part... Also, the reverb on the ECFD is digital, but it's great.)
Sounds great as always. I remember being a little underwhelmed by the Ethos, nice pedal and all but not sure I got the hype. I preferred the Van Weelden but the Dude isn’t terribly far off that either really, I’ll probably get another one in the future. That’s my take anyway.
As soon as I can justify/rationalize another pedal purchase, the Dude is at the top of my list!
@@jakollee it’s an awesome pedal. I’ve bought and sold a lot of pedals but I’ve never sold my Dude and I never would because it just sounds too good. Same thing with the Ultra Phonix and the Ultra Phonix HRM. Never selling those either.

Sounds great! I have a Wampler Euphoria which I do like, but hopefully will try this one someday.
I think I'd try the Dude first - cheaper and stands up really well with the Van Weelden Royal Overdrive

How do you suppose this compares to the Ceriatone OTS? The OTS 20 is about the same price as one of these Ethos drives... makes me wonder if just buying the real deal is a better option.
Well. The speaker SIM out of this is fairly cool. I could do some videos with the Ceriatone in comparison I suppose?
johnnathancordy that would be awesome, thanks! I’m currently going into my Carr Viceroy with a Dude, and swapping back and forth with my HX Stomp - not sure I gel with it all that well, I’m have a lot of trouble with headroom and external pedals.
@@imgonnagetbanned with the Hx stomp, if you're wanting headroom, I'd say don't be afraid to turn the gain on the models waaaaay down!

There's certainly better choices out there for a Dumble tone in a smaller enclosure, but the clean channel of the Ethos is PRICELESS! I like the Van Weelden Royal Overdrive, but it's a huge pedal to have on a pedalboard...
