Robbie Hall's take on one of the most coveted amps in the world. We know that they were all built to order and with the player's style in mind, but there are common qualities that define them as well. Chirp, midrange, smooth distortion and compression... all sorts of wonderful traits and flavours that help shape the tone. The Ethos Overdrive is one of the greatest pedal-form manifestations of these amps available today. Many say it's the best. It has been highly regarded for at least 15 years with small but detailed improvements to its build over time. You can use it as comprehensively appointed overdrive pedal into the front or effects loop of a regular amp, or as a direct injection device as I'm doing here. It's 100% analog and sounds amazing.
My first encounter with this wonderful pedal was way back in 2008. Robbie has kindly asked me to revisit it and I am very honoured to do so. I will be presenting some new gear from Custom Tones LLC in the near future.

Pedal is sick. Just an entire tool-box of drive tones. Brett's playing = Tasty, on-point and enjoyable as usual. He always delivers the goods.

Me too. I was almost ready- to pull-the-trigger = then I saw Price and many things I wanted were Optional Add-on's.

Does the clean channel boost as well? I love this thing! I’m seriously looking at the website and thinking of pulling the trigger. I wanna make a smaller portable rig for bars and such, and this sings! I can go from one tone to another pretty easily. It’s a good pedal platform, as that clean channel is amazing!
Decisions decisions…..what do I use for a pwr amp? 🤔
No boost on the clean channel unfortunately, which is the same as a Dumble amp (or at least the Ceriatone ODS which I had previously). You can order the Ethos with a built-in 30W power amp which is about as loud as a Deluxe Reverb, although the jazz setting is pretty quiet. For more power I am considering a Orange Pedalbaby. I'm not playing out and about at the moment so can't justify buying one to test.
Can you set this in front of a DAW interface to record with? The sounds are just so great and it would save a lot of messing about as I have to record DI due to my home situation.... cheers.
Yes,, that's exactly how I'm using it here. Ethos via speaker sim output to soundcard, reverb plug added in the DAW.

Great video brother. I got one of these. I could never figure out where/what/how the on/off: switches operate and/or how/what turned on:off and what the switches did. Very confusing pedal.
